Porsche Cayenne Front Upper & Lower Control Arm Replacement DIY (2003-2010 Porsche 955/957)

  • ►The front control arms on the first-generation Cayenne, Q7, and Touareg control all of the verticle movement in the front suspension. Though the upper and lower arms are different shapes, both use a standard rubber bushing at their inner pivots and a ball joint where they meet the knuckle. Over time, regular use will degrade the ball joints and bushings beyond their point of useability as the road force wears them out. Worn bushings and ball joints will leave your SUV with a vague steering feel, reduced comfort and agility, and likely clunky noises. Replacing the control arms is the best way to solve that issue.
    Typically, the control arms on these SUVs should last around 70-80,000-miles. However, the bushings can wear even faster if your vehicle sees any off-road use or extended use in a city environment. From potholes to rock obstacles, none are kind on suspension bushings.
    We sell a few different brands of control arms for the Cayenne and its VAG siblings, and today we're installing the products from Meyle on our Yippie Cayenne project. This Cayenne desperately needs some control arm love after driving deep into the Colorado wilderness only to be dragged out with a deflated front suspension. Follow along as Mike Hidalgo, FCP Euro's Professional DIY'er, tackles the front upper and lower control arm replacement on this 2008 Porsche Cayenne Turbo.

    Mike!!! and his famous, "What's going on my good people." As always, Well done, not only performing your task, Mike, but explaining it in detail.
    She's one step closer to being, "Reliable." As each DIY, raises the Percentage of Cayenne usability. Not to mention brings content to us enthusiasts of the Make, Model, or just plainly, The Company itself.

    Great DIY video! Not gonna lie though, I did the lower control arm and cv axle replacement on my 2009 Turbo S last night while using this as a reference and you make it look way easier. 🤣 A rusted bolt on my control arm and a lift on mine as well made it a MUCH longer process than I thought. Couldn't have made it through it without this vid, but rethinking my DIY skills at this point. Haha

    Quality “how-to” video, well done. I definitely would not use the pickle fork but each to their own there. I’m buying a 2007 to rebuild and bring it back to its former glory. I appreciate people like you taking the time to produce something like this.
    I also can’t endorse enough to people doing their own work to use the paint marker on all bolts, nuts. Great confidence when you routinely check and see nothing has moved.

    This is the best DIY video I have seen for this repair. I have a 2004 Turbo with hydraulic bushings ... unlike the Turbo S with solid bushings. I'm guessing the Audio LCA you are using are going to be the best value/performance option.

    For those looking for torque specs without watching the video: Upper control arm - 37ft-lbs, Upper strut bolts - 37ft-lbs + 90 degrees, Upper Ball Joint 63 ft-lbs, Lower Ball Joint 77ft-lbs, Lower control arm 126ft-lbs, Lower Strut bolts 63ft-lbs, Sway Bar 81.5 ft-lbs.

  • @andybell7415
    @andybell7415 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The upper control arm should be 155mm from the edge of the mounting bracket on the top of the strut and the centre of the wheel should be 499mm from the edge of the wing when tightening up the bolts going through the relevant bushes.

    Hey!!! What is the front skid plate and bumper of this truck? FYI, I just did this service. It's a bit more tender when you don't have a professional lift. That be said, a little bit of crawling around in tight places and muscle will get the job done. Thanks for this video!

    Great video, would you happen to know the part numbers for the lower control arm Adjusting(Eccentric) Bolts and Nuts/Lock Nuts..? Will I need 4 of the same Bolts and Nuts, 2 for each lower control arm? Or are the front and rear eccentric Bolts and Lock Nuts on the lower control arm different? I need to order but I stuck at this point.

    I really enjoyed this DIY - very complete. Since I need to replace my ride height sensors (common issue), I was interested in the places where you disconnected/connected the ride height sensor cables, as it gave me a chance to get a better view. At least you did not need to press the ball joints out and back in - had to do that on a Bronco, and it was a bit of a pain (even with air and the special press). Were these OEM replacement control arms, or special heavy duty ones? There's another FCP Euro video showing special control arms on a Mercedes from Syncro Design Works, including footage of the control arms while on a track, showing how much play regular arms have vs the special ones (th-cam.com/video/GY909OF47Ng/w-d-xo.html). Thanks for the Cayenne DIY - I'm always hungry for more!

  • @christopherjamieson4237

    An OTC 7314A Pitman Arm Puller will press out both lower and upper ball joints + the outer tie rod end. Lose the hammer and fork. Your causing damage to the other components and making yourself look like a rookie. You tightened the lower strut bolt with the suspension at full droop. That bushing isn't going to last.
