Definitely a great guy to know he was very friendly and seems very honest with his views not pushing you to fix anything think you got a good bargain with the car
Hi Joel, I have owned my 3.2 v6 for just over 6 years now & I can honestly say its been the best reliable car I've owned, it also tow's effortlessly. I have dealt with all the little niggles you get, but they are all well documented on one forum or another and easily fixed. The spare parts are cheap because of it being a multi-platform car. In my 6 and a bit years the most expensive repair was the labor charge for replacing the coolant thermostat, the part itself was less than £20. I have the air suspension and its been great and reliable. It just keeps going. It had new disc's and pads fitted when I bought it and I only replaced the pads last year after 50,000 miles. I have looked at other cars in the SUV range and they all compare themselves to the cayenne's greatness. I am only the 3rd owner of my one after 20 years, mines an 04 model by the way, Reg V6 DKD (so you can check it out) even the number plate was cheap. Who cares about the mpg when you drive past all the broken down vehicles on the side of the road. I put an after market head unit that looks great and sorts out the Bluetooth issue as well. If you like reliability you'll keep it, oh and my battery date is 2007. I could go on for hours, all the best.
I had a cheap 2003 V8. Was a 2 year money pit. Drove it to Denmark once. Sitting in complete comfort at silly speeds on the autobahn was awesome. Scraped it 2 years ago as valve stem seals were bad and too expensive to repair. Also had an electrical drain.
Hi Joel, I'm delighted to see that you have scored not only a genuinely great car there. It also pleases me to see and hear the wisdom of a genuinely good, honest mechanic. I own a lurid, metallic green 1978 911 targa among other, far less normal machinery, and have to say that an independent specialist invariably makes sense. I used to do all of my maintenance myself, being ex motor trade, but I had the devil's own job when it came to finding an independent up here in Northumberland, the land that time forgot, but when i did i was so glad that she's as honest as the day is long, very supportive and I've found that - perhaps because a woman is far less likely to patronise and generally treat poorly, another woman. Yes, there are good dealership workshop staff out there, but an indeoendent will always have the potential to operate in a much less incentivised way than a main dealer mechanic. The usual way with the independent trade is that - because they're small business people and havecno need to upsell the job. On the three occasions (between 1983 and now) on which i have bought cars from dealerships, they mostly tried to charge a ridiculous amount for, say, washer additive, when they know double well that i always carry a bottle of the stuff in all of my car. Your guy has a very calm, pleasant approach and, with his obviously good brand knowledge, would definitely inspire confidence were I to take a vehicle to him for work to be done. Two nil to Joel; great car and a totally decent chap to work on it. Your content in the cases of some of your cars left me feelingva little disheartened as I often felt tgat itcwasxabout time karma came knocking for you. With the bargain Copart TT and now, clearly, with the Porsche, your luck appears to be improving, richly deserved i say.😊 Keep up the interesting, informative content anf if I end up buying an early Cayenne to replace my utterly brilliant but recently written off X5 (not my fault, she was parked when a fool in a two day old Peugeot decided to attempt to ram raid the boot space. mine drove home afterwards, his didnt😂), I shall be crediting you with the idea. I hadn't realised how durable a good example of the large Porsche can be. Yours is so clean underneath. Well done, Sir. 👍👍👍👍👍
Love this video, Joel. Listening to Chris talk through the checkpoints without interruption was thoroughly engaging. I don't even want a Cayenne, but after watching this, I feel I know the car well and what to look for if purchasing.
Chris is an absolute gem, presents beautifully, passionate, knowledgeable, honest and open, a real credit to his trade. I'd love to see more of him on the channel.
Great video Joel, it’s really good to see a detailed explanation but one I can understand from somebody who really knows their way round these cars. Just gives you so much confidence when you deal with people like that.
Great buy! Fantastic honest mechanic! I had a great mechanic whilst I owned a Cayman S, I cleaned out the sooty throttle bodies, fitted a full stainless exhaust and it felt like a different engine ! Get your throttle bodies and intake clean, air filter replaced, and the leaking exhaust and you will feel a big difference!!!
@@itsjoel Drop us an email with where you are based and we can make some suggestions. We're looking at organising another VAG & Porsche off-road event in the next couple of months too
I can imagine all these minor jobs this guy has found that he suggests you wait until bigger thing needs fixing to get done would be jumped on by other garages and need changing right away. This guy sounds like an outstanding and trustworthy mechanic.
My mechanic is like that too. He tries to work the least it seems I tell him things I want done he's like you dont need to do that now wait until a it actually becomes an issue. My car was overheating it would go past half but drop right back down and he's like dont worry unless its actually staying overheating its good for now
Well as you knew, a 2005 cayenne is on its way to the scrapper and not worth spending money on. Still at 3k, it's shed money and fun to cruise around in.
Great to see you again, Joel, this channel has grown a lot. When you had issues with the indicator, I thought it was the connectors. Music on your channel is great too.
I have a 2005 Cayenne S, that I have had since 2016. It still only has 42,000 miles on it, as I divide my driving over a short list of vehicles, while I keep them all in new condition. I also have a 2008 Cayenne Turbo, and I absolutely love both of my Cayennes. I have loaded them with Carbon Fiber, and do most maintenance myself. I feel these Cayennes will likely out live me, as they are extremely well made, and rugged. I would highly recommend one if you can find one with low miles as I did. Oil changes , brake pads, filters are easy DIY items.
Really informative. Great to see someone sharing their knowledge in that way. Well done. You bought well and I think yours looks more classy than the turbo in any case.

Great stuff, I’ve always hated the chrome around the windows and pillars. Would be great if you did a vid on chrome delete or wrapping in gloss black. Really update the car and make for an interesting video!
I hate the pillar chrome (not chrome, more like a satin aluminium finish), but I like the window and boot trims to tie in with roof rails and wheels (at least on mine). So I’ll be doing a gloss black wrap of my pillars.
That drain problem is similar to Rover 75. I broke down due to the same reason..flooded plenum which got in the ECU. The car did work ok once dried out. I did take the ECU apart and made sure it was dry, but I sold the car after that.

Really informative video Joel and Chris. The more I see the more I feel tempted to buy one. I've got no interest in going fast, especially in something this heavy, so the 3.2 or 3.6 N/A would do just fine for me.
I'm in the same boat about buying one as a second car... but i work from home and don't do too many miles as it is, so thinking about the big daft V8 turbo,
£700 road tax would put me off even though I am already used to paying £400 for my cars. However, if you think that the condition is amazing and won't require much work, then the high tax might be worth it, especially if Joel's experience with insurance is anything to go by. If the turbo is only a little more to insure over and above the NA version, it might be worth it. Or, you could just be patient and wait for a 3.2/3.6 to become available. I won't mention the additional fuel consumption!!
Not sure about the catalytic converter issue. They don't usually just break and need replacing, I'd put cataclean through it first, that will most likely fix the issue for £20. If not, you can get them properly cleaned out. Cat's don't usually just stop working and need replacing at any age.
Love my 2006 955 3.2. Didn't know it had an under bonnet light 😕 However it needed a lot of servicing when I got it despite having a full service history. Every single one of those plastic pipes and hoses need to be replaced. They WILL all break. When you work on it they will break. Believe that !! Check for coolant leak down the back of the engine from the thermostat housing. It's an utter PITA to get to as the whole inlet manifold needs to be removed. It's all made of plastic, commonly known as the crack pipe, so you will need to replace all of it. It's not expensive just time consuming. Diffs and transfer case can be serviced easily especially if you have air suspension. Just drain and refill for about £40. Autobox service should be done as you get jerky up/down changes. Porsche recommend 160,000 miles ! Other than that it'll bong at you occasionally with an error which will likely go away on it's own. Oh, it drinks fuel. Hopefully you have the 100 litre tank. BTW. The air suspension doesn't drop to the floor when it fails. It tends to get stuck unless at a height unless you have a catastrophic failure.
Great video, wish I knew a mechanic who could tour me on my car. I saw your Audi TT in the video and wondered if it is still for sale and what you wanted for it. We enjoy your Videos.
Well, that's got to be a relief! Lots of small stuff, but it would still add up to quite a sum I suspect. I'd just tackle the stuff as absolutely needed. And in the summer get it up on a lift for half a day and wire brush, treat, and paint the bits of corrosion. Otherwise, just treat the car with a little respect for it being 19 years old, and hopefully it'll last as long as you need it to. Remember it's not a sports car. If it were, some of the stuff would be more urgent. But if you were to push it hard, just know some of the suspension work will have to be done sooner rather than later. Driven normally as daily run-around and family utility vehicle, you may be able to spread the jobs that have been identified over a couple of years. Maybe aim to divide the list of jobs into four at six-monthly intervals. Some of the jobs you could even tackle by yourself on your driveway and avoid the labour costs to change cheap parts that are readily accessible. Anyway, congrats, and good luck!!!
I’ve been tempted to buy one as they’re genuine affordable now, but I would get absolutely slaughtered by the absurdly high registration tax and road tax here in Belgium…😕
If you change the front subframe bushes make sure you get oem or find who makes them and get them ive fitted cheap bushes and its a complete waste of money
This problems i would fix right away, and then take a alignment right away after the arms and bushings. Then you most likely can drive a really good time before something new needs to be replaced :)
Very decent underneath for a 05. I've got a humble Honda Accord 2.4 of the same year that has avoided salted roads and looks similar. The Porsche scores though in having a fully hot dipped galvanized chassis. Using the same insurance comparison site I wondered if the insurance would be expensive. Nope, I pay £220 and this Cayenne came in at £305 with the AA. I think I may switch to Porsche!

Can definitely recommend a cayenne based on my own experience. V6 is enough power if you’re cruising around, or around 90% of the time
annoyingly a turbo has come up locally, in budget and MOT'ed till Feb 2025. but a 2007 and I really hate the thought of £700 tax.

Hopefully you have the 100 litre tank.

good video, heart in mouth stuff with a Porsche but you’ve done well. Engineer spoke well, he’d get my business.
Great vid, it’s nice that the mechanic does not mind being filmed. A follow up on repairs would be nice :-)
He’s great on camera too!
@@itsjoel yes he is :-)
You had me in the intro, honestly... but the car was fine?!?!?! 😂 Fair play.
Great video, wish I knew a mechanic who could tour me on my car. I saw your Audi TT in the video and wondered if it is still for sale and what you wanted for it. We enjoy your Videos.
This was a good buy
Enjoyed the vid, wish you purchased a 4.5l V8 though so I could properly compare…
Maybe one day!
Excellent guys, definitely know their stuff and I bet their prices are reasonable too 👍
Well, that's got to be a relief!
I would want Chris for my mechanic.
I’ve been tempted to buy one as they’re genuine affordable now, but I would get absolutely slaughtered by the absurdly high registration tax and road tax here in Belgium…😕
If you change the front subframe bushes make sure you get oem or find who makes them and get them ive fitted cheap bushes and its a complete waste of money
this mechanic is a good man I can see that
Wow 955 cayenne 😊awesome car
Thank you 🤗
Very informative, thank you Joel.
Glad it was helpful!
Chris definitely knows his Porsches.
Damn.... that mechanic is pure talent
Did I see that the inner two tail pipes are not actually connected to anything?
Good watch ..Top man at eporsch 😊
This problems i would fix right away, and then take a alignment right away after the arms and bushings.
Then you most likely can drive a really good time before something new needs to be replaced :)
Don't they normally suffer with piston slap clunk clunk clunk😊😊😊
Definitely get the work needed done and film it would make a great vid 👍
That's the plan!
Did you resolve the issue with the engine light illuminated?
Loved the video…Porsche guy seems a really nice guy too.
Hi Joel. Nice car. Isn't Chris a star. Well done and don't forget to do that belt.
Absolutely top video,I learnt so much thank you.
I feel like buying a Porsche just to be able to take it to this chap!
What a great vid Chris is top guy
Wow you've got a real result there, but who specs a car with illuminated sills and not heated seats???????
Great advert, going to give them a call about my 997
I wish all mechanics were this man 👍👍👏
Joel,Other great video let me know when you want to sell this car as I genuinely would be interested in taking it off your hands , as it looks like a good one .👍👌
