surprisingly, as a TL owner, I totally disagree each and every point you guys made.
it handles great in snow. fuel economy is great, at low 20s. the backseat has tons of space. but the trunk space is very limited.

If had a 2013 AWD Acura TL for the past 5 years. Absolutely the greatest car I’ve ever owned. The all wheel drive in the snow is amazing. Nothing ever goes wrong with the car, and it’s really cheap to maintain. I am really I happy customer.

I'm not impressed with this review. The SH-AWD is not being paid enough tribute to. Also, this car is 5 stars on safety and reliability.

It's an AWD 4000+lbs sedan and they think it should get good fuel economy?

  • @alt9874

I usually like Dave's reviews, but in this one I disagree with a lot of the points the guys made. I have a 2012 SH-AWD with the 3.7, and with true snow tires mounted it's excellent in the snow. It pulls like a train, handles very predictably and hooks-up very well on icy/snowy roads here in Canada. No spinning and slipping when you leave a stop light, it puts the power to the wheels with grip and also mitigates tire spin so you can easily accelerate away. The engine is very powerful, and for a full size car it's quick. As far as the dash buttons, yes there are quite a few, but once you drive the car for a week you get accustomed to the ones you use most and it's really a non-issue. Overall this is the best car I've ever owned personally, and I would recommend it without reservation.

I definitely disagree, I live in Canada I have Michelin x-ice tires and my TL handles beautifully in deep snow and ice. You can't expect all seasons to perform well in snow, all season tires are jack of all trades master of none.

" I think it's because you're a bad driver," the co host said. I chose my TL primarily based on its superior snow performance -- over the A4, IS and 3-series.

All due respect when some one says sh-awd isnt good on snow and ice you can automatically toss their opinion out. Its literally the best awd system for snow and ice. I dont own this car but that's just a know fact at this point.

This car is awesome in every respect! They fail as reviewers. The head cushions actually lean forward to support you during normal driving and will prevent whiplash by leaning forward more just before a rearend collision. I couldn't find a better designed car in 12 months of looking for my next used vehicle. Wish they were still available new!

The complaints about the cluttered dash are from testers who have the car for a week or less. I can say after owning it and learning what everything does I dont find it overwhelming at all. Im Canadian and from my experience this car is very very very good in the snow. Tires make a huge difference awd or not.

As a TL owner, I wonder if these guys even paid any attention to this car. They said so many things I had to disagree with.
It's great for Winter. I always feel very safe driving it when the roads are bad and the SH-AWD handles well even when I purposefully make it loose traction.
The trunk space is not spacious, it's rather small due to the AWD system.
    Fuel economy does suck though.

Should be called an "Every Housewives Driver" Review...........Eeeewwwwww! Too many knobs & things! Eeeewwwwww! My Japanese car isn't German enough! Then you knocked it for MPG, and EVERY other competitor you mentioned gets the SAME MPG w/in 1 or 2mpg from it's 3.6 or 3.7 engine. Knock them too? and WOW....not a good winter car? It's BETTER than the G37x or CTS4 because it STARTS at FWD before adding to the REAR instead of visa versa.....I'm obviously not "every man". My last vid here.

My wife drives a 2012 Advanced FWD which I drive on holiday trips. I returned 29mpg at 85-90 on our last outing. Great car, maybe a little firm for some but handles with excellent manners on the open road.
If anyone has converted a FWD to SHAWD please let me know. I have a 2010 MDX that convinced me it's worth a few mpg's. Safer for my wife in ice and snow as well as torque steer elimination. I found a rear diff for it(MDX) costing $200.00 with 29,000 miles. Used also in the TL SHAWD. Very Cool. MDX has 264,000 miles, love it.

I think it deserves a better rating. When they say it not good on ice amd snow it because of the stock tires are pretty bad. I do think that acura has to step their game up a bit on the power their engines offer.

  • @nparadisecity
    @nparadisecity 10 ปีที่แล้ว +10

Personally, I don't think a complicated dash is something to really gripe about. After a few weeks you'll probably be comfortable with it.

  • @a32tl
    @a32tl 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

As an owner of Acura automobiles, I can assure you that within a few days all the perceived "clutter" on the dash and steering wheel, falls into place and operating everything becomes 2nd nature. Takes a little getting used to if you're coming from a different make of car but I promise you with just a little time everything seems to make sense. I actually love the look and function of the interior and dash.

Not the best handling vehicle in snow and ice? I don't think people seek to test a vehicles handling in snow and ice.. But traction.. It's a great sport sedan for people that see bad winters.. And offers spirited driving when roads are dry. Awesome tech and roomy interior combined with acura reliability has me looking at them

I really prefer the TL. When it comes about engineering I think Honda is better than Nissan. The TL interior is most sophisticated than the G (my personal opinion) and the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive is the best for this segment. Both are great options but I vote for the TL

And my neighor still cant beat me, so go figure.

"it (Acura TL) has that import feel as opposed to that german luxury feel." If anything this acura tl is made in THE USA and i believe that german cars also have an import feel?
Also whats wrong with having more buttons? When you pay for a luxury car you should expect that it will have a lot of options and thus should have more buttons which btw the acura tl's interior console buttons are nicely laid out and legible.

Ok guys I have the 2012 version of this car in Portland Oregon and this review has thrown me completely off. You gave it a negative on winter and wet driving and that's what sold me on this car. On a wet day I have to go extremely hard to break the tires out of control. Its the first car to ever grow on me even more after owning it for awhile. Instead of for a day or so take it for a week and drive it hard and see how you like it then. Portland weather is nothing to me in this car.

Just out of curiosity, you guys say this car isn't that great in the snow/ice even though it's AWD. everyone says the dash is "busy"... with too many buttons.. nonsense. Once you drive the car for a few days.. you figure out all the buttons and they all work. much better than a touch screen that tries to cram a lot of buttons/controls into an LCD that gets all dirty and scuffed up over time. I was recently in a brand new G37 and it's dash looked plain and boring... everyone likes something differnt but I think the Acura interiors are just phenomenal. very high tech and classy.

Come out to VIR with one of these, by the way, if you really want to see what SH-AWD can do. This huge car's exit out of Oak Tree will be a real surprise to you. Listening to your comments, in the video, I am surprised by quite a few of them. I am astonished that you can criticize the fuel economy or the handling in any way, considering the car's market segment. My B odo is lifetime at 23 mpg, and it's not uncommon for me to get around 30 on a trip. The design *is* about end of life, though

Yes, I am! I've obsessed and dreaming about this vehicle. I really wanna get a manual transmission of the TL. But since I live in North Miami Beach, it's not gonna be easy to find a TL with a manual. Right now, I have a 1999 Toyota Solar SE V6 with a 5 speed manual. But I'm gonna keep my Solara because Toyota run last forever. When my engine is RIP, that's what I'm gonna look out for the 2012 or 2013 TL with manual.

For some reason, some automatics have better fuel economy than manuals. I think the Acura TL with the 6-speed automatic with SH-AWD, has the EPA rating of 18 city/26 highway. I'll look at Acura's site on that. The biggest one is the Subaru BRZ/ Scion FRS -- their automatic is more fuel efficient than the manual. Any rationale?

Got it. Cheers. Just didnt want anyone who saw the video review for first time to get an impression that it has great trunk space. Apart from the rear view camera, the tech package brings no value for money. With their ancient navigation system, the package only sounds great, not worth the money. Overall though I love my acura TL. I strongly believe it offers luxury comparable to bmw 5 series at the price of 3 series.

Not the first time i have heard that about Michelins... Have never had a reason to justify an extra 70-150 dollars per tire for said brand, and have been very pleased with BFGs, and Nexens(came with my 09 Legacy from the dealer wont be spending extra for said brand when the time comes... I miss my bfg's)

It's unfortunate that you got your hands on this car after its day was done. The appearance redesign was a cop out. Unfortunately, the 2009 model year introduction came right after the economic crash, and the people in general really didn't "get it" as far as the looks go. In December 2009 I bought a 2010 model year SH-AWD 6-6. 66,000 trouble free miles so far, and still going strong. ZERO money spent except regular maint. That's probably Acura's strong point.

Drive an 04 TL (197,000 great car) however, almost time to upgrade. Found this video to be helpful, thanks. I may reconsider the TL or wait another model year.

I have to say having a 2010 then a 12 and now a 13 , your snow problems are all tire related . Put snows on it and its a whole different car and while the dash may seem busy you get used to it. Also not that it's big deal but the car in the video is a 2012 not a 13

I think it was come down to the type of driving dynamic you prefer. The tl has a more sophisticated gearbox, the shifts are buttery smooth, plus Awd if you get the SH-AWD edition. The infinity has blistering acceleration in comparison, and is much louder. Personally, I love the speed of the G, not to mention the sound. Also, the Tl has VERY light steering, a little too light for my preference. The G has a sportier feel, please drive both b/c its just gonna be based on your preference.
