    Fu#*ing amazing.
Your Sp series is priceless. The organized, upbeat presentation and clean editing makes understanding the topics so much easier. Bravo. Great job. Thx

Can the MPC be used similarly as an fx box? How do "buses" translate on the mpc?
I think i could formulate better questions if i gave it more thought.
I wanted to take the chance to show some gratitude too. You do awesome work, hugely underrated. Thanks for giving us this education. I really enjoy your tracks as well dude

Appreciate the kind words and glad to hear the videos are helpful for you 😊
With regard to MPC, I don’t have much experience with them (would love to get one whenever budget permits) but from the videos I’ve seen of the one and live, I think each track has its own fx and then there’s master fx. You could probably do some or most of these things using those, though im not sure they’re as easily accessible as the SP’s are with all the effects right there on the box.
With those individual track fx you could have a lot more tonal control on separate instruments in a track which could give room for a lot of live variation.

How would you do live sampling / looping by recording incoming external audio in a DJ performance with a midi controller just with Koala Sampler?

That's a pretty complex question, there's a few ways to do it, but Koala isn't really built for live looping (imo). You could sample in and then playback, but it'd take some finessing and timing to keep it on time with the track you're playing. On a midi controller you could map different things on Koala but it would still take some menu diving to get it all working so not sure how "live" it would be.

I can't seem to get enough volume output from my phone. Any tips?

What phone are you using? Have you tried using the fx bus’ that were added to koala? The limiter can do a lot of work bringing up volume.

Yo! This is awesome, haven’t seen your videos before but this is an easy subscribe.
I do want to ask, do you think you could fill me in on how you do the routing for the midi/sampling/sync set up you mentioned at the end

Appreciate it Thomas! For that sp, circuit and synth setup it’s actually a pretty easy routing: I send midi from the circuit to Erebus. The Erebus audio goes into the circuit and the Circuit’s audio into the SP (similar sp effects routing as this video).
The SP and Circuit typically aren’t synced… if I need them to play at the same time I just hit the play buttons in unison. In this track specifically I had created some bass notes, arps and pads with the Erebus that couldn’t be played at the same time with everything else I had programmed due to the circuit’s 4 synth track limit so I sampled them into the SP and triggered them live. Hope that helps!
If you want to see how I made that track and more with the setup, here’s the full video: th-cam.com/video/4MOH3NIHXoI/w-d-xo.html

@@sunwarper oh hell dawg thank you, just seeing this now for whatever reason, but that's super helpful. I've been trying to work on a setup with an Electribe 2, SP404a (getting a mk2 soon), Koala on an iPhone, and some auxiliary stuff (EA-1, Volca Drum, etc) but it's easy to get bogged down in buying adaptors and reading MIDI implementation guides all day!
I don't care too much about actually recording or releasing music, my priority is having a fun and enjoyable live set. Tons of creators on TH-cam seem really focused on the studio experience primarily, and when it comes to live shows, they seem to mostly DJ or use hardware to basically just DJ. You're definitely breaking that mold and showing techniques and setups that allow for some improv. Coming from the jam band scene, that's important to me.
So basically, thanks for the technical advice and help and also the inspiration. There's so many ways to play live music with all this gear, and it's so helpful to see someone be honest about how they use it personally.

@@Bezz_Jeens cheers my friend! that’s an awesome setup! All the cables and connectivity, while great, can get a bit frustrating and time consuming. It’s always about the music though so if you don’t need to deal with the connectivity and can keep it a bit more loose or just time playing the boxes at the same time then it still works great. I’ve released tracks using the SP and Circuit not midi synced and it definitely works.
I’m a guitarist first and foremost so I love that more jam bad vibe, it also makes the final sound a bit more “human” in my opinion.
