I’m excited for this one! I have an Ableton setup with a track of midi devices to use my SX: 1.Pitch - align the SX pads to “match” my external controller, 2.Midi Monitor - visual note data, 3.Velocity - Add Some Random…dose what it says! Not sure if you mention Midi Channel+1, but banks F-J are available with the next midi channel. If you set the SX to ch10 (banks A-E) ch11 will have E-F.
Nice. I'm only getting to grips with triggering pads at the moment thats as far as my knowledge goes. I found that switching between Channel 1 & 2 in Ableton gets me either banks A > E or F > J
7:34 the remote setting would let you send CC data to “turn knobs”. The 404sx has nothing to control that way if I remember, but it is very useful for other hardware with a midi implementation chart
Welcome to the world of midi! :) I really like using the MK2 as a midi controller to record into my daw. Then I can clean up any misplaced notes. And then also play it back into the MK2. Keep exploring!
@@spvidz aaaand it worked! My audio interface didn't have a MIDI input so I did some research and found that Roland UM-ONE MIDI Interface. Setup was pretty much the same you did on the video, easy and smooth. Thank you again bro! 🤘
Take it to the next level by sampling the sp back into Ableton through your interface. Then you can record that sound into Ableton and create a track there
Dope haha. Reckon you could figure out how to control the vocoder on the SPMK2 using Ableton? I’ve seen someone do it with the Machine 3 but not sure how to do it with a DAW. Would be cool to be able to play the chords/key with Ableton and effect the vocoder. Thanks for the vid broski
@@spvidzHahaha No worries fella. If you ever fancy checking it out this is the video where he does it with the MACHINE th-cam.com/video/ntN-CGYalB0/w-d-xo.html could be possible with ableton?
2 questions: why did not you set a drum rack so your pads are naturally located as pads in Live, and why did not you use "external device" to route midi out Live and audio back in?
Bro, a year ago I sold my Sp 404 sx so I can get a Machine MK3. Biggest mistake of my life, I miss the vinyl compression on thing so much. Debating whether I should get a 404 or 303. Just for the fx. What do you think?
@@spvidzyes I tried. Ez pz. Never even thought to try it. Side note you can use the USB c on the sp404mk2 to control your DAW as well. Not that it's optimal, but it works in a pinch out in the world.

@@spvidz yeah, learning the setup making/using a template helped me a lot.
Really appreciate you making so many vids on the SX. I got one about a month ago and your vids really help
Really glad to help 👊

Thanks! Great one! I'm an Ableton user as well but I love the sound and hands on feel of the 404 mk II. Best of both worlds!
For sure man! Can’t wait to try it with the older devices too. Really hope it works for the 202

Nice yeah been doing a bit of that as well. Wish it could do a bit more in ableton but it is fun using the pads for drum groups and simpler 👌
Now route the audio output from the sp into your interface and back into an audio track in Ableton and record your performance! 😉
100% yeah! That would keep projects a lot tidier as well 👍
That’s such a good video mate! Thanks a lot for sharing this, can’t wait to try it out!🤘🏻
NP! Hope you get it working 🔥

Great stuff 🙌
Works with sp404 mk2 too. I saw your vid and had to try
Nice 🙌
on my elektron devices i have overbridge.awesome vsti that controls your device. best of both worlds.

Thats way beyond my knowledge. I'm just happy to be able to trigger pads!

This was very helpful man!

What about Fl studio in terms of efficiency when working with sx?
will this work with an sp555 on fl studio? and what do i need to set this up? i really want to use the sp555 as a midi controller, thx and great vid

and we can make patterns on a grid! mpc's are overrated! ^^ thanks mate, nice vid!
haha yeah we've got it all with this combo! 🪄
What do you mean by making patterns on the grid in this case? Using the SP recorded into Ableton?
also can apply mpc and sp1200 swing to midi clips in ableton (grooves)
@@remyvegamedia use ableton midi grid to do ur arrangement and record Back in it or just resample it, usefull to make complex/crazy drums.
@@Doser_Fu Ooooh I get you. Run it midi, have the audio routed back in. That's dope. I'm gonna try that out.
Thats really great. ❤✌️

Cheers!

get the mk2 ^^
The mk2 sense u already have the mk3 u can use them together
303 is dope for fx but the MK2 is just the overall best by a mile now. USB, SSD etc etc list goes on...
dope video can make video for ableton to control for sp404mk2 with midi, soon i'll buy for sp404mk2 ;)
It’s most likely the same, you just need a different cable - the more modern midi cables that are 3.5mm

Yeah I can only seem to get that to control drum groups and chops in simpler but it’s still quite fun
