      I think filler is completely unavoidable if he wants a perfect paint job. A lot of those small dents can't be made invisible without filler. But he is minimizing the amount he will need before painting. I'm sure the result will be perfect. Curious which color he will choose. The original one is not very appealing.

    About 20 years ago I was given a 240Z, California car with almost zero rust, but otherwise rough. Had it shipped to VA with intention to restore it. After 2 years of it sitting under a cover, my wife says "fix it, or sell it". I sold it. Watching this video, I made the right decision, I no longer regret not trying to restore it. The skill and the speciality tools needed to do the job correctly are on another level from what I might have mustered. Thank you for helping me see I was not equipped to try restoring it myself.

    • @vendacious
      @vendacious หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah, I had project '74 260Z with a 350 V8, but my car's interior burned up in an iPhone fire. I was told 'no more potential fires, please' and had to sell it. You are definitely not missing a fun experience w/ the body. Even watching him scraping off the rubberized coating on the floorboards evoked painful memories of trying to fix all the jack stand puncture holes from 35 years of dumb owners who put it in the wrong place.
      Anyone with a '70-'78 240Z-280Z project car, unless you're capable like this guy, I'd give that job to body shop.

    More than 50 years ago when I was about to be married, we met a photographer called Stuart F McDonald. He was driving a new shiny 240Z in Orange. I was very impressed. (I was driving an old Land Rover). He did a wonderful job of the photos and we are still happily together with two half Swiss /half Australian grand children. Great job you are doing on the 24 OZ ( as they were called here). Mike in Oz

    It is always so gratifying to watch you work with metal. You never force the metal, you just coax it along until you get it to where you want it to be. I hope you have a great weekend and Merry Christmas (or whichever holiday you celebrate at this time of year).

    This channel is definitely different from other channels. While he can always do similar things, he always goes above and beyond. Each time, he shows us methods that we have never seen before and would never even cross our minds. He obsessively fixes everything until what he does is perfect. As someone who has been watching these kinds of channels for a long time, i can't watch anyone else anymore. Only My mechanics

    if there was an award for best cinematography on youtube, this takes the cake. every dent fix is framed as such the dent is visible and there is a reflective light in the background. also the amount of care taken in restoring the vehicle is probably more than the factory model that hit the ground when it was released. this is my dream car and the dream amount of care taken to make it beautiful.

He is making an improved version of this car the world had never seen. btw. thinking I have to wait at least a month after this release for a new episode, you cannot imagine how glad I am when you tell me at the end of the video that new episode is releasing next week.

    I wasn't sure I wanted to go along with you when you started on this car. I'd pigeon -holed you on tool and small device restoration.
    So glad I kept tuning in. You're restoring this car in a way I always wished craftsman would when I used to watch other auto resto shows over the years. So often you'd see them Bondo every single imperfection. It's not wrong, but seeing you weld, hammer, pull and bend metal to your will is immensely satisfying. I hope you continue with your usual exacting attention to detail with the rest of the series.
