    What is your favourite diffusion filter?
    When do you use them?
    Let me know if you have different filters than I have!
    I would love to check them out :)

      Glimmerglass 1 №1
      Black Pro Mist 1/8 №2
      Cinebloom 10% №3
      Looks likes Cinebloom 5% will be much closer to the Glimmerglass 1...would be great if you can test it out

      Hey man, awesome comparison. Did you try the 1/2 and 1/4 Glimmerglass? I love the look of the filter but need a very subtle enhancement without it getting dreamy all over ;) you know what i mean. Thanks in advance

      New sub! Just wondering what lens you were using? I’ll be using a 13mm viltrox for environmental portraiture

    The best comparison by far. Thanks for making it. I thought I was going for the Black Satin or the BPM1/8. But now I'll go for the glimmer glass.

    Glimmerglass felt like the only one of the bunch that delivers nice halation. Not to mention refraining from exaggerating lens flares and reducing contrast

      Glimmerglass is what I use you just have to be aware that it can't be used at small apertures well because the grains become obvious after F5.6 on APS-C. Still great for portraits where you use a big aperture, but not so useful for night time street photography

    I actually own Black Pro-Mist 1/2 filters. They create a very pronounced and strong bloom effect, but somehow still maintain black levels really well. It is definitely more aggressive that most people would prefer, but there’s something about it that is exactly what I want in my photos and videos.

    • @FilmStory
      @FilmStory  ปีที่แล้ว

      Never used 1/2 yet..!! But yeah I’m sure it has its own use

    • @PurpleStormProductions
      @PurpleStormProductions ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FilmStory I’d say it’s use is creating a more pronounced classic bloom look. It looks amazing in black and while and in color. I’ve used it for both digital and film and the highlights just pop so much more, and I’d argue it’s not too much still. I’d imagine after Black Pro-Mist 1, it would just be the soap opera dream sequence look.

    As Cinebloom 10/20 owner I'd say 20 is nice for night shots only, 10% is perfect for anything, I dropped mine and now it generates some crazy prism like artefacts that look really nice

    Thanks for the comparisons.
    In 2021, I performed a similar test with these five diffusion filters that I use when shooting portraits:
    1.Hoya Duto soft focus filter 77mm
    2.Tiffen Black Pro Mist #1 soft focus 77mm
    3.Tiffen Black Pro Mist #3 soft focus 77mm
    4.Hoya #B Diffuser 77mm
    5.Cokin type Soft Diffuser (rectangular)
    The Hoya Duto and the Tiffen #1 diffused the least.
    Hoya #B and Cokin diffused the most.
    Tiffen #3 was in the middle.
    The equipment setup was:
    Fuji S5 Pro digital SLR tripod mounted
    85mm f/1.4 Nikkor auto focus prime lens (77mm filter size)
    manual focus setting
    ISO 800
    f/2.8 f/stop
    1/125 second shutter speed
    F1b film simulation
    Open shade sun light
    Shade White Balance
    In addition to my 85mm f/1.4 Nikkor, I also use these filters on a 180mm f/4.5 lens on my RB67 medium format SLR.

    Thank you so much for this very useful side-by-side comparison. I bought a Tiffen BPM 1/4 to take the edge off my Canon RF 'L' series lenses which I find a bit too sharp for video but the BPM 1/4 gives a much stronger effect (halation and contrast reduction) than I was expecting in most situations, so I was about to order a BPM 1/8 until I watched this video and I have now ordered a Glimmerglass GG1 instead. Thanks again for the comparison.

      Are you satisfied with BPM 1/4?

    • @benwise665
      @benwise665 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@mustafagomen7084 Yes, I think they're both great for different reasons. The Glimmerglass (yes, I have the GG1) is more subtle. It gives a lovely softening to the image which is what I'm after for video (I generally like my images sharp for photos but not so much for video) and the GG1 is something that's easier to leave on all or most of the time for video use, which I wouldn't necessarily do with the BPM 1/4 (although these things are always personal).

    I love my glimmerglass but struggle to use them when shooting video or doing hybrid photo/video weddings - are you comfortable using the mist filters without NDs for these video shoots? I dont really notice any jitters or artifacts from high shutter speeds in your BRoll examples... is it because they're slightly slowed down? Great video!!

    • @FilmStory
      @FilmStory  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I usually use both nd and mist filter stacked up together. But I guess I can go without nd. I would set shutter somewhere between 1/250 - 1/600 then.
