    10 MONTH UPDATE: I had them replace the faulty display that kept crashing, no more crashes and display works solid. The battery range charges to around 5% less than what it was originally. Not sure if the battery range actually dropped as batteries degraded, or it is some sort running correction the car performs. I'll keep watching it for changes.

      13:27 that statement can be debated. I use a 2017 1.5L 3 cylinder BMW 118i (automatic) which comes with an 'eco pro' mode. The basic premise of this mode is to be economical. For instance, it has a start stop function ( when you brake to a stop the car turns off until you accelerate again). Another instance for when i'm using this mode is when I take your foot off the accelerator, the car will 'put the clutch in' so the car is just rolling (this saves even more fuel). It has other features in the engine regarding valve timers etc... and all that combined leads the car to consuming:
      4-5L /100km or 48-58mpg(US) or 56-70mpg(UK)
      You got me with the difference in energy prices

      lifepo4 prismatics batteries and 32650 as well, used of course. solar panels went up a few in price though, still, yay!!! doing good offgrid with used 90ah eve cells 24v setup 1kw inverter and an mppt with a 365watts mono panel, i mainly use around 2amps every night and spikes with the hot plate daily, some dc fans, a dc water pump, a laptop and router. could use more panels but im over budget lol, like always.

      Not really since he bought a Tesla yeah they require less service but what he said about Car Enthusiasts wasn't necessary because car enthusiasts love vehicles okay so they first buy a daily driver like a normal vehicle most likely my first car might be a Hyundai Elantra Hybrid then when the scrape up some money they buy their first sports car or such or maybe even a second normal vehicle, then they don't buy another car but then you get in you're 30s at a dead end job you have enough money so you splurge it on a nice fancy new sports car and that is the cycle of the car enthusiast usually they would not buy a new fancy car more likely a used car maybe 90s or 80s but most likely 2000s cars
      so is buying a Tesla worth it I do not know since I will most likely never buy one I would most likely buy a Hybird or PHEV either a Honda Or possibly a Prius but I do agree that if you buy a new sports car its pretty dumb unless you are rich.

    • @tipips
      @tipips ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do agree with most stuff he said, but with driving good down a hill you wont use fuel aswell on a petrol car granted you wont gain range, but the mein issue is the price of the electric car compared to a petrol car buying a petrol car is like 15-20 k electric is about 40-60 i can use petrol to fill my car for a lot of time until i reach the same price, and that doenst include the thought of needing a new battery at some point.

    • @someonez768
      @someonez768 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tipipsnew battery ? Tesla gives warranty for 50k miles or 8 years which is good but not means battery will ruin after 50k miles or 8 years, just warranty. Actually ev battery can last like 25 to 30 years and don't look at older tesla models because they improved a lot now.

    Hey Mehdi! I am a chemical engineer from Argentina and I work in the construction of biogas plants. It is a process of anaerobic digestion, which transforms organic matter (animal manure) into methane. We then use this gas to generate electricity. Although we are burning this gas in a cogeneration engine, it has a lower environmental impact. There is no way to obtain the methane that the cow expels, however, the generation of it in their stomachs could be genetically controlled (in some point). Greetings!!

    • @IndigoWhiskey
      @IndigoWhiskey 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i would imagine a diet suppliment for the cows would be better as changing their digestion processes genetically will effect every other factor about rearing them. like a fart supressent you can get in the pharmacy
      (not labelled as fart supressant obviously).
      cowpat would make for a much better source for gas based fuel in general mind.

    The thing with ACC is that it only recognizes moving obstacles like a moving car (and also maintains recognition when the car stops) but it doesnt recognize stationary stuff like the box or the wall so that the car wont brake when taking a turn, for example.

    • @poppinlochnesshopster3249
      @poppinlochnesshopster3249 ปีที่แล้ว

      why wouldn't the software just disable braking for stationary objects while the wheel is being turned then? seems an obvious and safer solution

    • @ColdBlood157
      @ColdBlood157 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is much easier for the software to distinguish a moving car from the environment. What seens obvious to us humans is not so obvious for the car. Normally durinng ACC the car can follow the front car even while turning so simply disabling is not an option.
      Other safety measures are stuff like a minimum speed requirement for activating ACC. In the end it all comes down to minimizing the risk of unwanted behaviour
      Another good example might be an ending lane or a curvey lane with a wall up front. You know that you simply have to switch/follow the lane and you dont want your car suddenly breaking in the middle of the road. For stuff like that it needs a camera which goes beyond ACC into autonomous driving territory

    • @brittanylyles8285
      @brittanylyles8285 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ACC for the new Nissan rogue is going to get someone killed. You can set the distance you want it to follow behind a car in front of you and the other day as I was passing a car on a 4 lane highway while in a very slight curve to the left my rogue seen a stationary box truck in a parking lot on the side of the road and thought the box truck was in front of me and much slower. While merging back in front of the car I had just passed the dammed cruise control slams on the brakes for literally no reason at all. Had i not been paying attention and immediately took control and corrected the car behind me could have well hit me and it would have looked like and insurance scam no doubt

    About grid load (16:00), my Renault Zoe (fully electric) came with a "smart charge" app. Once I allowed Renault to take control, the app now figures out how long it needs to charge to provide the requested percentage at the requested time and then pauses charging during peak usage times (actual grid load) and charges during low load. For this I also get a small sum per charge kWh. It also recognizes that I'm home, so on a public charger it always charges full speed. I have full control through an app or in the car to set the percentage charge and time at any time, anywhere.

    I got mine 2 months after you did...my left rear door handle is actually slightly recessed too (but not as recessed as yours, it's very slight). Also, I can tell by the interior that you have the refresh Model 3. This means it doesn't have the electric heaters from the original one, it has the Octovalve heat pump from the Model Y. It still produces heat, to heat the cabin and batteries, but the COP can be anywhere from 1 (when at about -30C) to about 4.5 (around 10C). It's MUCH MUCH more efficient and one reason the new Model 3's have higher range.

    I own a Chevy Bolt. When I was in the market to get my foot in the EV door, I was considering Volts as well. However, the Bolt's regen braking takes it to full stop whereas the Volt you still had to press the brake pedal. 1-pedal driving is so much fun and a deal-breaker for me as you can see. For me, the savings both in fuel and maintenance was the primary motivator. Carbon footprint... nobody pollutes like the State. So while I might try to be helpful in this way and that, I understand that the individual is dwarfed.
    Studies on Tesla batteries have found that for minimal degradation, you should be discharging to about 50% and charging to about 80%. Of course if you have a trip coming up, top it off. Thought I'd mention it since you talked about charging it nightly. My daily commute is low, so I usually only plug it into 110v every 3-4 days in the summer and 2-3 days in the winter.
    I got a hell of a deal when I bought mine. When I was shopping, there was a battery recall in effect, so half the ones I could find were not even for sale. I ended up getting one for less than US$16000 that had only 10000 miles on it. Best part is that because of the repeated battery recalls, my Bolt will soon have its entire battery replaced free to me. At which point it will have 8% more range than when it first went to market, and will enjoy a new 8 year warranty on the battery. When you consider the only 10000 miles it had, I practically got a new EV for less than half the price! I worry that somebody's going to hit me and strand me with no way to get that kind of deal again.

    Speaking of the autopilot, was that "reminder to pay attention" feature added after the autopilot-related accidents that were reported a while back? (Don't let that dissuade you from using it at all, but I guess be ready to take over if it doesn't see something)

    Can you measure the charging losses when charging with 5A? Usually switching power supply have peak performance above a certain current threshold. I am curious to see if there are higher switching losses at 5A vs 32A and how much extra current the auxiliary systems of the car are drawing during the charging time. I guess you'd have to measure the outlet energy with a power meter and subtract the exact kWh that the car is reporting for battery charging to see the losses.

    5:17 “whenever I go zoom she goes slap”
    That brings back some memories.
    I’m like 33 now and my dad is 53. Step mom at is I think 51. They both have birthdays coming up. I guess for the story my sister is now 31 and half brother is 21 next month.
    Now that we have all the ages for no real reason…
    About 15-20 years ago my dad had a 1967 GTO. he restored most of it himself other than the engine and painting. It was pretty much the blue of the Dodge Viper at the time idk maybe 2003 or something. The GTO was mildly souped up im not much of a car guy and I wanna say I was like 14 or 15 at the time do the math for the rest of my family if interested lol. But my bro was basically a baby in a car seat in the back middle (cuz mom always said it was the safest), so my sis and I on either side of him and my parents in the front, dad driving of course. We are on the northway (which is what we call the portion of I-87 that runs from Albany to Canada, I think Montreal…) and the speed limit was 65mph idk maybe 115kph but I’m gonna use mph here.
    And now the relative story starts….
    Dads going about 70 thru some traffic when he finds a nice opening. He glances back and my sister and I and he always fucked around and showed off when it was just us but this time it was the whole family and my mom (finally having a child of her own being my half brother) had always been paranoid of my dad goofing and crashing the car with one of us kids but ESPECIALLY her little boy. Anyway The car was a 4 spd and he down shifted to third and floored it for idk maybe 3 seconds and the torque on the thing shot us all back in the seat. The three of us kids are laughing and whooping and my mom literally half way into it starts HITTING my dad, as we are speeding up to, 75, 80, just about 90. By that time mom is screaming “Paul wtf! Slow down” and she is hitting his arm and he responded “wth are you trying to do to us Deb I’m ducking driving here” as he is now letting off the gas because he is swerving from the fact he is getting his arm wailed on repeatedly. Needless to say he didn’t really have much fun driving with her if the kids we were in the car with her. Ofc it was fine if there were just the two of them but he hated taking us on family trips in it.

    To avoid having to make a deliberate turn on the wheel to convince Autopilot that you're paying attention do the following:
    1) Rest your elbow on the arm rest (either arm)
    2) Rest your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel against the spoke
    The car makes enough adjustments to the steering (very few roads are perfectly straight and level) that the opposing force you exert on the spoke is enough for the torque sensor.
    You still need to pay attention! But you don't have to think about moving the steering wheel just the right amount to keep the car happy without switching off the auto-steer.

    • @VoltisArt
      @VoltisArt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I feel like it also might have a system that visually monitors the driver, who, at least during the video, was looking away from the road periodically. (Which someone dozing off & on would also do.) I'm not sure on that, however, and I'm making no accusations against Mehdi. Somehow other people manage to be completely asleep (reclined, no less) while their car is speeding dangerously on the freeway. Both of these extremes tell us that autopilot is not nearly perfect yet. The technology needs time to be developed.
      Keep. Your. Eyes. On. The. Road.

    I know a guy who has a Tesla. He bought a spare charger. In my area we've really don't have any chargers except like at major hotels and like two in the city next to us. If he were to do any kind of driving outside of the city which basically puts him in the country. He would basically be trapped out there if he ran out of power. So he has the 120 volt adapter for emergencies and he could just plug it in at whatever outlet he's near.

    I've had the same model since 2018, and still like it a lot for the same reasons you mentioned, though I don't trust the autopilot much. I won't use it except for the smart cruise control, and that not very often either because it sometimes reacts violently during traffic merges.
    But I want to thank you for the idea of charging at a lower rate in my garage. I am not sure why it didn't occur to me that I didn't need to charge at the full 40 amps. So I cut it down to 15A, which will still charge it by morning, so win-win... Less I^2R loss! Even less needless CO2 emission.

    The cardboard boxes are hard to detect due to the fact that radars play a vital role in obstacle detection. The denser the object is (and bigger surface area) the easier it is for the radar to pick it up. Also, when either the vehicle or the obstacle is stationery it makes it even harder to detect as radars are calibrated to discriminate smaller stationary objects in order to avoid picking up too much "false" readings or noise. Doppler's effect is best utilised when multiple clusters of data read from different points of an object by radar have correlating fluctuations in Doppler's speed that it's been calibrated too.
    If your car has ultrasonic sensors - they are very short range and high response time so they are only used as proximity sensors.
    LIDARs in cars are usually long range and are used to reinforce radar's data reliability by data fusion. That means the beam and short range is narrow. It's also likely that they are just 2D LIDARs meaning that if they were angled at a certain angle the entire envelope could have missed the boxes.
    Lastly, cameras most likely use AI that were only trained to recognise lanes, living beings, traffic signs and traffic lights, they aren't used for your standard obstacle detection.
    Took me years to learn all that by practice :)

      @@timberslut lots of variables play role here, but living beings (flesh) is much easier to pick up by 24 GHz or 77 GHz radars due to higher density and overall object thickness, then also movement plays a big role as radars pick up differences in VELOCITIES, so if an object is moving even slightly it makes a huge difference.
      Of course sensor angle positioning and redundancy sensor roles matter too..

    I've had one for a couple of years and they are good, but mine has been in to service a few times due to build quality. Hopefully the next lot will be better! The daily battery drain and that noise you can hear when the car is "off" will be sentry mode. Disabling it will ensure your battery doesn't lose any charge, no matter how cold it gets.

    For green lights, as per Federal regulations, don't mean "go" they are actually defined as "you may go IF (and only IF) the intersection is 100% clear. The Tesla car probably wants you to give the "yes, go ahead" through the intersection as another layer of redundancy and safety.

    You know, I really appreciate the intro part there. Not that I should, because he has certainly earned his success. But I appreciate the candidness there about the car cost and features and financing. edit: the boxes aren't dense enough to stop it or a fog could trigger it. edit2: the cold weather of the mountain would have slowed the slow discharge of the battery at idle and it would have read less voltage/charge. As it warmed up, the charge would have "returned". Batteries are stored in deep freezers so they hold their charge longer and don't deteriorate. but when cold, the reaction doesn't happen as well so the battery appears to be "dead". Heat is actually what causes them to discharge very quickly and actually die or deteriorate.
    edit3: why do they not put photovoltaic cells on these as an extra source of charge?

    Semi-interesting fact: your Model 3 and your Toyota Matrix were made in the same place. Fremont Assembly was a GM plant that became NUMMI when GM partnered with Toyota to share their California plant. The Matrix (and Pontiac Vibe) were assembled at NUMMI. When GM pulled out of the joint venture in 2009, Toyota decided to shut the plant down. In 2010, Tesla bought out NUMMI and refurbished it into the Tesla Fremont Factory, which today still produces all Model S/X vehicles and all Model 3/Y vehicles for the North American market.

    I’ve owned a Model 3 for over 2 years now and I love it! A few things:
    - The display freezing like that is definitely not normal. I’d take it in for service!
    - Check out the latest ‘FSD Beta’ videos on TH-cam to see what the latest self driving software is actually capable of! What you’re using is basically a year old already! Also, if you want to understand what’s happening under the hood, get familiar with ‘Neural Networks’, and how ‘Deep Learning’ can be used to train them.
    - Fill your boxes with bags of water next time.. The car will likely stop because the radar will see it then.
    - I’m sure you already know, but charging the battery to 70 or 80% instead of 90% will do much more for battery health then charging it slower.
    - In the ‘Carbon Footprint’ calculations - people almost NEVER account for the carbon footprint of building gasoline stations, producing the gasoline, transporting the gasoline, building semis to transport the gasoline, etc. That should all be included too!
    - Very little of the US grid runs on coal these days. There is a lot of natural gas though.
    Congrats on the car! You’re going to love it!
