This treadmill is genius. It exercises the body through walking, disassembly, and cleaning. Additionally exercises the mind by making sure you learn what you forgot and thinking how to make other equipment work that is affected by static electricity or indirectly touching. The designer thought so thoroughly about it that they even made it look like these intentional functions were unintentional.

The problem with checking amazon reviews for excersise equipment is that the VAST majority of them are written by people who want to get in shape, use them twice, write a review saying how great it is and then it never comes out of the closet again, so the review doesnt take into account how it holds up to regular use. Ive bought equipment in the past with great reviews that did work great...for about 3 workouts

    • @MegaTheftV

It's the same with other product too. I bought a stereo with pretty good reviews to replace the one in my project car and its face plate was too wide for the dashboard covering to be put back in. I had to trim the sides to get it to fit and while it does do the job properly, the dimensions that were written were the ones that should have fir properly.
This isnt my only experience with a product sucking, my sister got a trimmer and it didn't work, it had no effect on me too on my arms with thin hair. I now return to my old reviews every once in a while to update them since i trust those reviews more and I don't want other people also getting screwed.
I also every now and then get emails from sellers offering to send me products for free in exchange for 5 star reviews and these products are always overpriced like an umbrella that cost more than 100 dollars so I look at reviews carefully now.

Yeah, it's always better to disconnect the plug. They should add a bipolar switch, as in most of the world the connector is reversible and phase can be on any of the two wires, but that adds cost.

I used to service treadmills for Sears Canada, and what most people don't know, is that there are two types of belt lube. One is silicone based, and the other is wax based.... If you mix the two of them together, it thickens and causes a LOT of friction... I have seen so many burnt out motors and circuit boards because of this.
This was a long time ago, but Nordic Track is an example of a treadmill that uses a wax based lube while Horizon uses silicone based lube. Treadmills come with lube on them, so you need to make that you are using the correct one. Not doing so will at best, make a less and a little extra heat, and at worst, ruin your belt, motor and motor controller.

@@InuYasha_bullet000 Not any sure way that I'm aware of. The silicone is usually thinner, like baby oil, where the wax based is a little thicker, (still very thin) Unless you are already familiar with them, that is not much help.
I'm sure there is a way, but I can't say for sure.

    • @crackpotfox

This video is a good reminder that physical activity is important. You don't have to dedicate your life to sports and you don't have to work to become buff. But some form of workout is required for improving one's health.
The trick I found is to incorporate the activity into the daily routine. I shower before bed, so I went on a walk around the neighborhood before shower. That way, every time I felt like I just want to shower and go to bed, I made it so I want to walk, shower and go to bed. Mehdi made it part of his work routine. As soon as you put things into your routine, they're much easier to maintain.

I was thinking to get a treadmill too, but I was too lazy to compare 100 treadmills to get the best / longest lasting one. Your video keept me motivated to buy an eletrical treadmill. BTW I did some digging and if you have the money or the time you should investigate the premium mechanical treadmills (without electricity) - for example: AssaultRunner Pro. They are completely silent, no maintenance required and cost 2000 to 6000 € - or something like 200 € if you build it yourself. There are some examples that work for standing desks too. I do not have the skill or budget now to get a mechanical treadmill yet - but maybe in a couple of years.

On a serious note, this video inspired me to buy a similar treadmill for my home office as I already own a standing desk. 2 weeks ago this video came out and 2 weeks ago I bought my compact treadmill. On average, I walk over 5 miles a day at about15K steps and already my pants are starting to feel loose. I already own a full Treadmill, but at best I would use it 3 times a week for 30 min at a time. Having this compact treadmill at my standing desk while I work, play video games, and watch videos changed my life. I can walk at a 2.4MPH pace and forget that I am walking. Hours later I feel tired and realize I have thousands of steps and burned a few hundred calories.

Thank you for expressing a healthy weight for yourself, Mehdi! It's not about continuing to drop lbs. Our bodies have a healthy range that's best for us and it varies from person to person. Health isn't just about the number, it's about your whole body. Thank you for this awesome video and sharing the journey!

Another option to prevent that leg and back discomfort from standing for a long time is an anti-fatigue mat. I had one at my last job, where a treadmill wasn't practical, and it made a HUGE difference standing at my desk. I'd still need to shuffle around a bit to keep the blood flowing, but I could stand for an hour or two straight without major discomfort.
Also, part of why you probably see those major jumps in your weight for the daily numbers is because your weight can fluctuate within a few pounds from a few things like hydration levels, digestion times [some things will take longer than others, so you retain that food weight] -- and especially if you sometimes weigh yourself before a meal and sometimes after, it can make it look like you gained quite a bit! Best to focus on the trend/average for a week minimum rather than the actual daily numbers. And I agree, having the data in front of you can be a motivator, but it can also become obsessive for some folks. Personally I weigh myself maybe once a week -- monitor my trends, but I don't fret over daily fluctuations.

    Impressive persistence.
I started walking at least 3km a day a couple of months ago. Like you, I lost about 2.5kg within a month but have hit a plateau at 84kg now. I'm pretty sure it's brought my blood pressure down.
My sports shoes were causing a static build-up on the treadmill too, so now I wear my work boots until I can afford different shoes. I had a different pair of sports shoes a few years ago that didn't do it so it's something in those particular shoes.
I was jogging too but now my knees and/or ankles let go within 10 minutes if I do that.

In 2015 my job became obsolete at aged 65. Over the next few months I acquired half a dozen free treadmills and dismantled them for the Motors primarily. All of my free treadmills were better than your Amazon one. All of them had a thermocouple of some sort in line with one of the motor leads. Maybe try marketplace. I am in Victoria BC so your market for free treadmills will probably be about the same.

Excellent video. I think people generally need to do a better job of taking care of themselves and a walking desk is a relatively easy hack to do that. I've been using a treadmill desk for nearly a decade now. The one I'm using has been good except for the control board which I've had to replace several times. (Thankfully under warranty each time). Since it's been out of warranty, I replaced the control board with a pulse width modulator which has been very solid, but I did admittedly lose some features. I used to occasionally use it for running, but now only walk in it.

They added a small 40mm cooling fan that pulls air over the control board and blows it into the motor... but there is no ventilation holes in the casing anywhere except directly under the motor! so it's just constantly recirculating it's own air, plus whatever tiny amount of air slips past the belt, as the bottom vents do not help when heat wants to rise out of the case...
A hole with a 60mm fan pulling air from one side and some vent slots cut in the other would probably double or triple the lifespan of that tiny brushed motor.
