    I’ve had this hoist system for several years for my two bikes. The friction force in the pulleys can be minimized but using a spray lubricant. Also, the reason the end of the bike nearest the pull cord raises first is because the travel distance of the first pulley is shortest. The more pulleys added, the longer the path and the slower the pulleys rise.

We didn't drill directly into the studs/joists, we drilled on either side of the joist and used u-bolts to mount a pair of block-and-tackles for each kayak. We were lifting with a pair of ropes, but it prevented the unbalanced issue you mentioned earlier in the video.

This allows me to have multiple bikes stacked on the side and then pull them to the center un hoist down the one I want. Think of a container crane on a dock. That was my inspiration and it is super practical and saves space.

    Hey Mehdi, (sorry if i get your name wrong), I found some improvements that you could apply onto your pulley system. Hope you consider my feedback. You may use this comment in your videos, under creative commons. Hope this comment got noted down on your list.
    1. Takes a long time to pull up, can get rope burn if too fast.
    a. Use a counterweight, on the side of the rope where you were pulling up. Make sure you can add more weight than the measured weight just in case. This allows you to:
    -Lift the bike up with little effort, like lifting a pencil.
    -Involves no electronics with the build. So you don't have to bring wiring all the way to the site to use motors.
    -Counterweight can come from anything, just be sure to contain and or hide the weight, and make sure it doesn't bang around and make noise.
    b. A counterweight, with a motor.
    -You might hurt yourself. I've seen your electric booms videos. Hope you are still ok.
    -You have to bring wires from your cable box all the way to the site (Or borrow from another nearby source if you are lucky).
    -It costs money to buy a motor, unlike getting a counterweight from inside the house, or salvaging another motor, and making it work.
    -You could get another sponsorship from those awesome pals with those cool scopes (NO guarantee THAT ONE THOUGH).
    2. Make A slotting, easy, secure mounting point. (Edit)
    -You can make it in onshape, or a different cad software.
    -Recommend starting out on paper, and start measuring out your dimensions for the hooks. Make sure you allow a good enough tolerance for the parts to fit nicely. You might want to add ramps for guiding the hook in effortlessly.
    By the way, my mom really likes your electroboom videos and if it wern't for you, I wouldn't have lectured her on electricity though the bathtub plumbing to ground. If mom's seen this, I'm in for a surprise.
    .
    .
    .
    .
    I mean for goodness sake, tires are not the one that saves you from getting shocked when lightning hits the car. Faraday cages are what saves you.

    I think of two things that could improve this system - much thicker rope (like 4-6 times thicker, not for strength, it's much more comfortable to pull or lift weight with comfortable thick handle) and better pulley wheels with bearings.

      Depends on how often you use each bike. I thought of buying such a device myself, but 2 times per day lifting and settling? The weight is not the problem, about 11 kg, a classic racing bike with extensions for the traffic.
      About the weight: For lifting the bike, you can use your own weight, to pull it up. Probably install some kind of handle on the rope, to avoid burnings.

      Weight and power is not a problem, at least not for me. I would prefer to have a shorter pulling way, which takes 2 times the power but a shorter pull. But child and wife might have different views on this. Winch and motor consume space, too and space seems to be our limiting factor.
      There is a common pattern in engineering/design, that while trying to solve a main problem, the side aspects and surprisingly arising problems and their solutions gain overweight, and in the end, you only focus on wether the boundary contraints where met - the main problem is out of focus. Did the current solution even win some space? But if we compare 8:35 and 9:51, we can confirm, that a second bike of the same size would - with a bit of shaking, pull and push - fit below the lifted bike.
      But now imagine the big monster truck, staying in the garage, you want to get to your upper bike but there is already a lower bike. You have to pull the lower bike out, first, release the upper bike, find a place to lean it on (the best place is already occupied by the 2nd bike), bring the second bike back in ... :)
      Okay - let's sell millions of ads on TH-cam and engage a butler for tamagotching the comfort extensions of our homes. :)

    • @meatsmell8639
      @meatsmell8639 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Out of curiosity, why is the seat a bad attachment point? Is it due to the instability of the mount itself (i.e the amount of "wiggle room" it has to end up off-center?) ? Or is it because you're worried about the dropper post? O.o

    • @meatsmell8639
      @meatsmell8639 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lordmrcs Theoretically it shouldn't need to entirely hook it, the downward force pulling onto the "ledge" of the hooks should be plenty to keep it secure enough unless you're just bein foolish around a 45lb object hanging from the ceiling, but I do see your point!
