- Hey y'all I was going to go into much more detail in this video, but unfortunately I had my head mount to high up. My 2020 8 HP Yamaha 4 stroke would start with the choke all the way out and then as soon as I would push the choke in it would cut off. after some research I figured it was the carburetor. I have never done this before nor do I have any experience with Yamaha outboards.
My generator was doing the same thing and stalling. I went on TH-cam, and found a video to change the carburetor. Fixed my problem and gave me that seems sense of satisfaction that you have from what you did. Nice job.
Another good way to make sure ALL the jets are clear and clean as they can be is to use a welding tip cleaner and compressed air.
Good video, keep em coming.
Thanks man that’s a good tip!
Great job my friend. I also do the same as you. I may watch a video on the problem/ repair but it definitely makes me wonder if I'm doing it right. It's very expensive to have a mechanic do it so that's why I do it plus if something happens out on water I maybe able to fix it good enough to get back to dock then tear into it when I get home. Don't stop what you're doing cause it's great to learn. Take care, Steve
You are A stout young man I’m glad you got it fixed congratulations
My 9.9 Mercury would stop running after 10 mins .. found a small gas leak and changed plugs worked Keep sharing
You are a skillful fisherman
I also freek out trying to mount this on my dingy in choppy seas. Thought I was getting old and weak lol. Best wishes.
Hi Mate. I give you kudos not so much for cleaning the carb, but for doing what most people would not do. Ex. risking the engine going down the lake. lol
Mr. Fix-it! 🎉
Massy and your beauty, your beauty is charming and wonderful
I try
I try!
I'm so happy for you. I've got the 9.9 and will be cleaning the carb later today.
I appreciate it!
@@TheFishJockey i took the carb apart, cleaned out the jets, put it all together in about 20 minutes. Started on the third pull and will now idle at what I'm guessing is under 300 rpm. Sweet!
Dude thank you so much for this info. Been having exact same issues. Same 8hp Yamaha motor you have. Thanks again. Captain Dj Pope / Sailing Muse
No problem man thanks for watching!
G clamps and c clamps are good for many things like holding a bracket up for a bit
great effort
Oh Man! I have a similar John boat and a 4 hp Yamaha. I’ve had to learn through trials and tribulations.. i’m about to do the exact same thing you did.. however, I wanted to watch some TH-cam videos first. Thanks for the inspiration I’m gonna give it a go.!! 🤞
I appreciate you watching! Good luck
I really liked your video. I have the exact same problem with my 9.9 Yamaha 4-stroke and I know nothing about engines. However, I had this problem before and they rebuilt the carburetor and cleaned it. I'm thinking I don't need it rebuilt just cleaned. I wish you would have shown exactly how you cleaned it with that spray.
Well done, you fix things as i would? 👍 just one thing, if there was a chance its going for a swim, tie a rope to the front grab handle for quick recovery?
Man I bet that felt good 👏🏼👏🏼
It did my friend!
Thanks ,get rid of gray fuel line. The gray gas line will deteriorate clogging carb.. True story.
mine has same issue, I clean it, works great, if I don't run it for 6months guess what same issue, gotta be a better way
I ended up buying an Amazon carb, works like a champ, gonna clean the oem one and keep it so if it happens again in 6mnths, quick swap out.
DIY FTW ! Now make a nice video of it running out on the water
I know a good lake we could put that motor to use on 😂
I saw the pics would you like to share 😉
yes i ripped up my finger pulling this joker too How about a better cord too its junk
reason they dont run properly is because yamaha under 20hp are still using carbs, whereas suzuki are EFI down to 9.9b, and also lighter, you should get suzuki instead mate, also make sure you wear the kill cord when you are driving :)
take the gas out after every use or make the same video next week
welcome to the bigs
