    That's a great engine. I purchased mine in 2018 for my 11 ft Whaler short shaft with electric start and steering wheel. I get 30 mph top speed with me (205 lbs) and gear in the boat.

    I have the last of the 2 stroke Yamaha 25s bought new in 2006, still have it, had zero issues! I run it on my honwave 3.8m inflatable.

      What’s you’re cruising and top speed with the 2 stroke Yamaha on your 3.8?

    I have the same motor (20” shaft with electric start). Replaced an old 2 stroke Merc on a 15 ft Mirrocraft Stryker. After two seasons here in Wisconsin, I have no regrets. Starts in any weather, quiet, and sips gas. The vibration at idle does shake everything in the boat but it’s a small price to pay for the bullet proof reliability. My boat is heavy but it will still push 22mph with 2 people and gear. I paid $3,800 in 2019.

  • @harryduncan6699

    The reason it vibrates is because it doesn’t have a counter weight to balance the pistons. Other small 2 cylinder motors have them to balance them. This is how Yamaha lowered the weight on the new lightweight 25 hp. I got that straight form Yamaha when I bought mine.

    They're excellent engines. I have a 2 stroke 25 on one boat and a f25 on my other boat, both excellent, absolutely zero complaints out of either one...it's kinda cool having two of the same horse power engines, one being a 2 stroke and other being a 4 stroke ...I can do direct A to B comparisons in the differences.

      @@6___________99_____________64 I like the 4 stroke due to its efficiency, ability to idle, super reliable, and its quiet...I like the 2 stroke, because it is a bit quicker, it's simple, lower maintenance costs and runs like a raped ape...

      @@c.shoefish 2 stroke FTW !!! Just bought my 1st 4 stroke motor (Suzuki 6hp) taking it to the dam tomorrow to break in and see how it runs . I also like 2 strokes myself. Simplicity is key

    • @FloBass
      @FloBass  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      What makes a 2 stroke more simple in your opinion? IMO a 2 stroke is more complicated than the F25 because it’s carbureted, and you have to mix your fuel and/or fill up your oil injection. F25 is gas and go. As far as maintenance, you still gotta change the oil, plugs, wires, impeller, fuel filter, just like any other outboard. Just wanting to understand your side.

    • @c.shoefish
      @c.shoefish 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FloBass Ive been running 2 stroke carbureted engines for decades, they just speak to me I guess🤣 no EFI, less wiring, no valves to adjust, mine is pull start so no charging or starting system to worry about...in the end maintenance costs are probably about the same...I love both, they each have their purposes...both run excellent, but I enjoy the 2 stroke more in certain situations, and the 4 stroke in others...

    I paid $383X out the door for a 2020 model in July of 2020. I got the same model as you but with electric start. It included a 3 gallon tank and fuel line plus dealer “setup” which was simply fill with oil and run it to make sure it was pumping water and then oil level recheck.

    This is a good motor, i have the 9,8 Tohatsu 2 cylinder 209 ccm no and 150 hours, start in a lake, out in salt and back a channel in shallow tilting. Before i have this 71 kg Tohatsu 3 sylindered 25 and that was a good one, didnt change impeller until it started go bad and it lasted 12 years 1100 hours before boat stolen and crashed.Impeller change after 8 years..Ihave one yamaha 8 one year and also a ok engine. But no recently Tohatsu came out with a 500 ccm 3 sylyndred 25 the same weight as this yamha 25,. Next time if in the new engine purchase, i definately go for the 3 sylindered.But all are exellent engines. Al the best from Norway and have good boating trips=)

    Excellent! I just had mine out for the first time, I wasn’t concerned with the weep hole strength but I also noticed she shook a lot and the handle vibrates at idol but like you say any throttle at all and it’s gone, nice and smooth. Glad it’s normal. It ran flawlessly and it’s got some torque, the swivel tension feature came in handy. I’m happy.

    Does not having power trim help reduce damage to motor if you do hit a log? I would think power trim would lock the motor down while in forward? I am asking because I am getting ready to purchase this motor in the next day or two. I can choose between the bare bones or the one with electric start and tilt assist. I will be using the boat in really sketchy water with lots of logs (and gators). Price is not a concern. Damage to the prop and shaft certainly are.

      EFI is the way to go. I haven't touched my boat since the end of July because I was up north on a fishing trip, then when I came back other people hosted me on their boats, then I fished a month long kayak tournament on the weekends, and I finally started her back up for the first time and she started on the second pull like nothing.

  • @Ugo98
    @Ugo98 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video and great engine!
    Just a few questions, do you what's the top speed with your configuration? And also, would you recommend it over a two-stroke engine, and why?
    By the way, you said that the power stroke happens every two strokes (180° phase between the two cilinders): that's usually what happens in 2-cylinder engines, but in the F25 case I read on the Yamaha website that the two cylinders fire simultaneously so the engine actually acts like a 1-cylinder one! (This might also be why it vibrates consistently when idling, obviously they chose to let it smoother when cruising)

    • @FloBass
      @FloBass  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Many reasons why I would go with a 4 stroke over a 2 stroke. Easier to maintain, no mixing oil with fuel, cleaner running, more fuel efficient, quiet. The boat runs about 30mph when its just me in it with perfect conditions. When I have another person it averages 26-28mph depending on where they sit, and the wind.

  • @omieyouknowme

    Your choice on cmc tilt is better than OEM, it is serviceable and cheaper. Prop, the stainless won't flex on 25hp motors, and are heavier to spin but for the same pitch they are thinner more durable, so it's a wash. Yammie props are best, don't waste $ on aftermarket, I tried them. The tiller handle vibration can be fixed, tighten the gland but behind the sleeve one turn to tighten handle then remove tiller handle add a washer inside on the spring when you remove the handle.

    I have an idea about the "weak stream" from the telltale i have and older '71 merc 110 9.8 hp it doesn't have a thermostat and even at idle the stream is very forceful because there is no thermostat to slow down the flow of water. In my new 2020 Merc there is a thermostat and at idle the stream is much weaker untill the engine gets nice and hot then theres a lot more water shooting out the telltale and the water is warm instead of cold. Im no mechanic but i belive the thermostat opens at a specific temp allowing more water to flow into the engine to cool it down. Whereas older engines without T-stat has full water flow all the time

Wondering if anyone else has my problem the power trim won’t work above 3/4 throttle, hydraulic noise like it’s under too much load like when putting motor on motor support for transport. It was a tracker 1436. I wouldn’t drop down in horsepower. The loss in power to push the boat with 3 people in it is not worth it. A boat with a smaller engine struggling to get on plane uses more fuel than a boat with a bigger motor operating on plane.

    yamaha are durable engines but unfortunately on the smaller ones like 20 hp and 25 hp they only have two cylinders and vibrate quite a lot. Since you don't have power trim, it also becomes very heavily steered when you pull as you can't adjust the engine up and you have to struggle to keep the tilt all the time as it pulls on the engine. Replaced my yamaha with a new Mercury 30 hp and what a difference in engine. It runs so incredibly smoothly as it has three cylinders and the tiller has so many adjustments and you have the power trim original and what a low draft in that engine and very easy to control at all revs and you don't have to wrestle with the tiller at higher speeds. But above all no vibrations, it is very irritating as it vibrates constantly in the Yamaha.

    • @FloBass
      @FloBass  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I haven't bolted the motor to the CMC. I just clamp it. I haven't had any issues so far. I put some skateboard grip tape on the clamp side of the CMC to give the motor some traction so it doesn't slide around. The only way I can see getting bolts to work is to drill and tap the CMC.

I bought new gas line, cleaned the fuel tank out and got new fuel, cleaned the gas tank intake. Replaced fuel filter, water pump impeller, spark plugs, deep clean on carburetor, new fuel/water separator, and had compression checked (180 psi on each cylinder) I’m really at a loss for what it might be. @FloBass  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, adding it will not allow you to charge a battery. Most outboard manufacturers make a rectifier kit that will do this.

    my 2005 Tohatsu 9.8 vibrates less with slight throttle as well. It has electric start but i prefer to use the pull string. id imagine your motor is probably harder to pull start though. What power tilt in that? does it also work like a jackplate?

    • @FloBass
      @FloBass  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its a CMC-PT35 power trim. Unfortunately no one makes a power trim and jack plate combined.

    70 miles on a tank. Is that nautical miles or land miles? I just bought the F20 with electric start and I'm just exploring the range potential.

    Does anyone know why this OB leaks a bit of gas after use when its stored on its back? Its a Yamaha approved position, resting on the two "feet", tiller up. Assuming theres some sort of fuel collector on the return that leaks out a vent line?

      @@FloBass Im seriously debating picking up one of these motors. Im afraid it wont hold a candle to the performance of my old 2000 25hp Johnson. I was seeing 32mph with that motor

    • @FloBass
      @FloBass  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the boat, load, prop, motor height, and trim. I was able to do 33mph banging the rev limiter when this was on my tracker 1436 with just me in it and a couple rods and the lures I was fishing for the day. No jack plate, no power trim. So even with bad motor position, just changing a prop to one with more pitch would have netted more top speed. A buddy of mine has a 2001 two stroke 25hp merc on his gheenoe and we go the same speed. He doesn't have a jack plate though and the motor sits pretty low, so he could go faster if he jacked it up higher.

      I'm going to have to call you out on that one. Sure, I'll eat my words if you can produce a receipt and shipping label, but you are spewing a bunch of bull. Overtons doesn't even sell Yamaha outboards. They never have. They only sell Zukes and Hondas which with their portable outboards, don't require you to go through an authorized dealer. Some places do sell Yamahas online, but only ship to Yama dealers.
