Indy has always been strong in the video game realm. Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis is one of the acknowledged greatest point and click adventures ever made. I also played Emperors Tomb on my xbox til the disc didnt work anymore. The locations and level design were out of this world. And it was a true globe trotting adventure.
Hoping they nail this game - I'd love a trilogy.
People have no problem seeing Indiana Jones old. That should be made very clear. Dial of Destiny’s failures had nothing to do with age. All the complaints were about character assassination. Knocking down an icon to prop up a new hero
@@MichaelBurkhalter fair point… maybe it had nothing to do with age but unfortunately that is what they decided to focus and lean on. A frail and grumpy Indy. Proper character assassination as you said. Such a terrible movie man yikes. Hopefully the game brings back the joy we once felt with Indy!

I genuenly believe, that Indy should go from being a movie character to a videogame character. not only can you continue making stories without having to worry about harrison ford aging, but you're also able to put the player behind the wheel which is great, and you can continue making stories for Indy.

My concern is first person view for an Indiana Jones gsme

Same thing that happened with Avatar Frontiers of Pandora is going to happen with this game, cinematics look great, graphics insane, but this is one of those games that need to be played 3rd person to really enjoy the scenery, puzzles, character interactions and all, in this type of games the character needs to interact with the environment for this to be fully enjoyed, same thing that happened with Avatar, not seeing your character interacting with the environment sort of killed the essence of the world they built since what you want to see is a big blue avatar all the time interacting with everything, not just the hands, that's why people think it was just another Far Cry game. Take this Indiana Jones game as sort of an "Uncharted similar experience", those that have played Uncharted know that it won't be the same played 1st person since you want to see Nate jumping around all the time, resolving puzzles, using the rope (that's why the camera changed to 3rd person in this game when using his whip, they want us to see Jones jumping around, why not just make it permanent?) . Game looks great, I just think it would be more enjoyable if you can see Jones all the time, not just his hands and shoes.
That's a great point! Avatar did kinda loose me and I do agree it would've probably been better for us if we could see Jones the whole time but alas. I hope they do nail the vibe of Indiana Jones and I am fairly confident they will.

If I was a consultant at LucasFilm Games I would tell them this.
From the start up remake all the classical Indy games to modern game engines like how Hangar 18 remade the Original Mafia game.
Remake Fate of Atlantis into 3rd person with masterful gameplay and cutscenes.
Remake Infernal Machine as well.
Remake Emperors Tomb.
Make the Original Trilogy game that the Collector was making at the time in the mid 2000s.
Revive and continue the original 7th Generation Vision of the Staff of Kings, with a few modern tweaks.
After that then make a few more original Indy adventures to close out the franchise for good.
Thats a masterplan that can take over 20+ years to do.
@@dboygamer8184 I remember a time when LucasFilm Games were peak! Love your idea but yeah it would take so much time and expertise. They own such amazing IP it’s a shame they do nothing with it. Can i suggest something? They should make Young Indy games in WW1 and adapt the stories from the cancelled season 3 to unite the series with the movies.

After that its 1935 to Temple of Doom.
Games can be made how Indy became "Indy". Met Marion, Abner etc.

It's going to be tough to get people to love 1st person Indy
I know but I think if we can accept it… the game otherwise is looking brilliant and definitely something I as an Indy fan would want to play.

I hope this new game is the first (albeit, small) step forward of everyone realizing that Harrison Ford himself isn't required in order to tell a cinematic Indy story...hopefully, eventually leading to a live-action recast. And going forward, treating the franchise similarly to James Bond (except in this case, remaining in the same time period)...and knowing the current owners (Disney), that may end up being the plan in the long run.

I disagree. Harrison IS Indiana Jones. Im fine with him not being in a game as one as long, as they make him lok at sound like him (which they always did) but movie recast wouldnt work. It would either be a new take, meaning a new character, or a cheap copy
Indiana Jones can never be like James Bond. I don’t know why people think that. Each Indy film is set in a specific time period. Each James Bond film is just set the year it comes out with no explanation as to how. It just is. Two completely different storytelling motifs
So why exactly couldn't another actor play Indy every few years in the same specific time period? It's an iconic character that if they had recast him earlier we wouldn't have things like Crystal Skull or Dial of destiny.
@@Trench-coat it would just be jarring I think… I mean I’m sure it was jarring when they recast Sean Connery, but we have become accustomed to it now. Another actor playing Indy just wouldn’t work in my opinion
@@joshhunt4146 I agree now it's almost impossible but back when they finished The last crusade a discussion should've been held to replace Harrison so that more films could get made. Today it's impossible that's why I think video games is our best alternative.

I always thought that in recent times video games based on movie franchise are showing better stories, better pacing, capturing the soul of original movies and being respectful of fans and characters.
Alien isolation was a good example: it was better than Prometheus crap and his sequel.
Totally agree with you! Alien Isolation was so underrated… absolutely captured the spirit of the originals. Hoping thats what they managed to do with Indiana Jones. Dial of Destiny was a depressing slog of a film that lacked the fun and wonder of the previous installments. Indy is my favorite fictional character and I really want to see him come back strong.

Indiana Jones deserves several seasons of a 2D animated series. That way you can have Harrison Ford young again with manerisms both captured and exagerated to perfection in a way that only 2D cartoon can. So many stories to tell and in any setting. There's a fan made (Patrick Schoenmaker) Indiana Jones cartoon trailer on TH-cam that does just that; and it's superb. How Disney have not picked up on this, especially considering all the junk they are pumping out at present, is insane.

I've always felt Indiana Jones could continue on one of two ways: Animated movies, especially if they decided to lean heavily into the original pulp-feel of Raiders of the Lost Ark and employed a more pulp comic aesthetic, or video games. As much as I adore Harrison Ford and he thinks he is the only one that can truly portray Indiana Jones, really it all comes down to the writing and if it feels like an Indy adventure or not with a ton of VA's out there able to replicate the tone and cadence of a younger Harrison Ford. It's clear that Disney/LucasFilms are not interested in pursuing more adventure or adult animation (Especially since Disney keeps striking out with its adventure films like Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Treasure Planet, and now Strange World) so maybe licensing out to studios to make more Indiana Jones adventures would be the best thing going forward. Nothing is stronger than a recognizable brand with its most iconic character being the series' namesake.

I think the Star Wars Jedi series is a great way to do adventure games. I like Uncharted and Tomb Raider but they simply don’t have the level of exploration that the more metroidvania type games do, which is really what adventure is all about. So here’s to hoping The Great Circle isn’t too “linear.”
Excellent point! I also wondered about how linear it will be cause I agree - for it to really work - I as player need incentive to explore and be rewarded for exploring. I watched the behind the scenes of the great circle and they actually did mention that a few levels will have a few hidden treasures and that they are focusing on making exploring worth it. This is a really good video and I want to see the same thing happened to James Bond where we keep making bond video games. And also video games does open the world for newer stories but and story telling. And if that was the case, I would like to see An old Bond such as Pierce Brosnan, George Lazenby, or Timothy Dalton be James Bond again in a video game.
And if you make a video game take place in the 60s or the 70s, have George Lazenby be 007.
If it takes place in the 80s have Timothy Dalton be 007.
And then if it takes place in the 90s bring back back Pierce.
And not only does video games work for franchise but it also gives a reason to keep using the actors and build their legacy and also their lore much more effectively with brand new stories and you could do that so much more effectively in video games then you could do in a movie or TV show. And I would also introduce the next generation to those actors and why those 3 were great bonds in the 1st place.
Yeah, with video games, you can tell a lot more stories without legacy characters becoming extinct.
I can't begin to explain how excited I am about io interactive's Bond game that is in development. Probably releasing 2025/2026. The only reason I wish Dial would have succeeded is because it might have given us Lego Indy 3 . Also tbe new game has to have 3rd person as an option imo.

I would have preferred if 'Crystal Skull kinda era' where he was mid 60's could have transitioned into a series format rather than movie. Movies are dead short and need a lot of spectacle to compensate for their more limited scope of exposition. As Ford has gotten older he's had to become less of what made him a hit originally i.e. a bit of a Han Solo masquerading as an academic. If you're toning down on action and spectacle you need to make stuff more interesting and intelligent and for that you need time... Yeah it can be done in movie format but it's considerably harder. Games are probably honestly the best way for his legacy to continue.

I’m honestly sick of the battle royale, first person shooter, and online exclusive games. These days they’re made almost strictly for streamers and competitive Esport tournaments. Everything is corporate and made with the intention of pushing cosmetics and micro transactions through online shops. There’s no heart or soul, and there certainly isn’t any passion behind most games these days. They’re almost made by an assembly line of bored developers who just want to cash their paychecks and repeat.
I’m praying this Indiana Jones game is a step in the right direction. I pray the developers genuinely want to give us a solid and polished single player adventure game. The Indiana Jones franchise only really has two options, since they went all in on their promise to never recast Jones in film… those options are video games, and animation.

When I play a single player game and I can feel the developer is putting in the effort to make my time feel valuable it makes gaming the best form of entertainment imo but vice versa most online games are just this micro transaction pushing slog and then gaming feels evil and corporate. The best stories in the novels and games have all been written by people other than Lucas!
@@Trench-coat Crystal Skull is pretty good apart from monkey and fridge scenes. Captures the spirit of the time, mcguffin is something original rather then religious icon, still has a connection to real events and places. It may be worse then original trilogy, but it still is Indiana Jones from top to bottom. You cant replicate that recipie

Hey trenchcoat. I’m assuming you played staff of kings on PS2 because the motion controls of WII made it unplayable. Anyways I’m assuming you played IJ and the emperors tomb on the same console or original Xbox. Came out round ‘03 and visually staff of kings may be a bit better but the story and locations of emperors tomb didn’t feel as linear to me. Still I love both games and jus wanted to recommend that other game to you if you haven’t played it. Thanks for the time and great video man

@@Trench-coat shoot man. I’m sorry to hear that. Probably one of the best modern Indy games. It does lean into more fantasy elements like how crystal skull did with aliens but it really works in terms of video game mechanics. There’s lots of crazy bosses like a robot you have to splash with acid and a kraken you shoot under water with a machine gun. Also more run and gun style shooting like tomb raider or golden eye(this was b4 uncharted ever released) I preferred that to the move behind cover point and shoot mechanic the revolver had in staff of kings. All that being said I’m beyond exited for dial of destiny. I’m not at all bothered by the 1st person mechanics. I loved the wolfenstein games and think machine games will bring a great take to Indiana Jones with a good mix of action combat and fairly complex puzzle solving. Sorry for the long reply. Guess it took me 6 days to type it all. Tbh I could go for another 5 paragraphs but I’ll stop here😂

This would be great, BUT it's in 1st person not 3rd person. It's not as good if you can't see the fact that you are controlling Indiana Jones. The greatest Indiana Jones game was and still is Emperor's Tomb for the original Xbox.
I am going to give MachineGames the benefit of the doubt due to the incredible track record they have of creating amazing games. I agree I would've probably preferred 3rd person. Only time will tell if it works or not. I personally have faith in the development team.

I truly can’t stand this Dial of Destiny trash-talking. Dial of Destiny is deeply misunderstood and will be reappraised favorably in time. It’s a wonderful, thoughtful film and Harrison absolutely should have done it and I’m glad that he did.
