@@Hikikomortis”lmao bro is actually nerfed to a crybaby on shrooms” The way Daemon kills Aemond will have you looking back on this comment in two years and laughing.
25:42 to answer your question: no dragons don't have acid blood, their blood just boils literally. Like getting splashed with water boiled at high temperatures
Sunfyre is the only living thing that shows any sort of affection towards Aegon. I think him playfully nudging on Aegon's chest was a very intentional scene to show that. Its quite sad :(
Their bond is basically the strongest out of all other bonds. I hope that later on they are going to show that at least a little bit. They care about each other so much and Sunfyre is still just a baby.
Rhaenys went back that last time because this was arguably the most important battle in the whole war. The four biggest threats on the Green’s side were there - Aemond/Vhagar, Cole, and literally King Aegon himself. Rhaenys knew she could literally end the entire conflict right then and there if she had gone back to make sure they were all dead, which was her downfall. But you honestly can’t blame her
And that ties back to Daemonds words about her being able to end the war before it even started when she had the chance but she didn't....so tragic but poetic
Honestly they all could have ended it before it began, but Rhaenyra was reluctant to pull the trigger because she did not want to sully her father’s legacy nor did she want further kinslaying. But she take half measures when she should have went full throttle to take her throne and end the feud that will cost a lot more later on
@@michaelanderson5301 Sunfyre is such a cutie! I dont like Aegon at all but I sobbed listening to Sunfyre's cries! All Sunyfre and Meleys wanted was to protect their riders ill never recover.
What hurts most is Vhagar and Meleys are dragons of Baelon and Alyssa Targaryen (Husband and Wife) before they were of Rhaenys and her daugher, Laena. Both dragons have been familiar with each other and for them to attack each other...
She didn't try to martyr herself. She didn't go back to die. She got Vhagar to crash into the ground, and was searching for the downed dragon to finish the job. But... well... Vhagar is hard to keep down.
@@roadrunneruntd I agree I think she went on that mission to make as much damage as possible to the other side since they rely on Vhagar so much. She was either gonna kill that dragon or die maiming it.
This episode has solidified Aemond as *the* ultimate villain of the story, say what you will about Daemon but he would never have tried to kill his own brother no matter what happened between them.
Daemon I feel would have killed viserys if he was the same jerk as aegon. All aemonds life he was bullied by aegon. We saw it in the last episode. But almond and daemon are both wild cards that only care for themselves. Remember, daemon killed his first wife because she made him mad
Vhaegar is like 90% of the firepower the Greens have. Rhaenys knew she had a chance to end that and took it. She wanted to do as much damage as she could with the chance she had. She did well. Also Meleys 😢😭
Not really tbh. Vhagar is like 50%, but there is Tessarion and the Green army which is immense. Sunfyre is still gonna fight and he is a badass dragon still.
Meleys and Caraxes are the only Black dragons that can take out Vhaegar. Rhaenys tried to sacrifice herself to try and take down Vhaegar most likely. Remember she doesn't know if Daemon is coming back with Caraxes. So it's either she fights Vhaegar or either Baela, Rhaenyra, and Jace fight Vhaegar with their much smaller dragons. There are also the unclaimed dragons on Dragonstone like Vermithor and Silvering but they have no riders.
If she had burned the Greens in s1 or listened to Daemon and helped destroy Vhagar in episode 1, this wouldn't be happening. It seems Daemon was right the entire time
@@ahmorgan She literally tells Daemon she is not taking any commands from him in 2x1, he is NOT the king or even regent while Rhaenyra was looking for Luke and Arrax, his plan was nothing other than "let's go to Kings Landing where Vhagar, Sunfyre and Dreamfyre are and just kinda hope we can take out the biggest dragon" which he says after she tells him both she and Meleys are exhausted and in 1x9, she, acting as Corlys regent, *could not* declare for anyone. Killing the Greens there could further destroy Rhaenyra because the one who would've 'gotten' her the throne would be a kinslayer. Small folk might revolt, and she would place an even bigger mark on Jacaerys and his inheritance. She did the best thing: she got out before they decided they didn't like her not declaring and she went to warn her former daughter-in-law in hopes of saving her grandchildren
@NyikoDoris do you know how the story ends? I don't want to give spoilers if you don't. Daemon was right. Rhaenyra isn't a warrior or a strong queen. She has no experience. Doing nothing has resulted in the death of Luke and now Rhaenys. She needed to be sure that going to war wasn't the main option after they killed your son while he was delivering a message, usurped your throne, locked Rhaenys in a room, and announced Aegon as King in front of everyone in Kings Landing, but you needed to be sure? Your two strongest allies are gone. Daemon and Rhaenys, and you have more dragons than people to ride them. Also, how's Rhaenys plan better than Daemons? She rode right into Aemond and Coles trap, died, and there's nothing to show for it. They lost the battle, Aegon was only in the way, and the biggest dragon the Blacks had is dead, so how was this better? Because the small folk may revolt? Trust, they will probably do that anyway based on the set up.
@@ahmorgan I know how it ends, but you need to understand show!canon, and book!canon are two different things. Let the story draw you in. In order to understand WHY Rhaenys made that choice you need to put aside what you read in F&B. Take the book as supplementary, but remember the characters make decisions without foresight from it And I didn’t say her plan was better. I said that she refused to follow Daemon because he didn’t have a plan and he was acting without Rhaenyra’s permission. The difference is Rhaenys flew to Rooks Rest with the consent of her queen, Daemon did not have permission to dictate orders in Rhaenyra’s name and he was not Rhaenys’s king. What she did, was in the heat of the battle try to take out their biggest challenger. The difference is she wasn’t even sure she was going to meet Vhagar, she was a surprise. Rhaenys didn’t leave Dragonstone with a half baked plan to MAYBE take care of Vhagar, she only saw an opening in the midst of her actual mission and after defending herself saw Vhagar down and only THEN thought to try and take care of their biggest dragon opp and if she fails, she still sends a message to everyone else: that the Blacks will fight to the end for those who declare for Rhaenyra
@datguy3581 The blacks have more dragons they're just riderless... rheanys was asked to protect the castle under siege, Rooks Rest... would you have left the allied men and castle unguarded, with vhagar around?
Rest In Peace Rhaenys and Meleys. You both fought bravely! Been crying for a long time now 😭😭 I also feel bad for Sunfyre when he got hurt 😔 faint wait to see more of Sunfyre and Aegon together
I love that Rhaenys doesn’t quit, she goes BACK to defend rooks rest and the black supporters until her end. She went out like a true Targaryen in battle 😢
at that point she knew she cant defend in the presence of Vhagar. Her key aim was to damage the dragons especially Vhagar since she already did a lot of damage to Sunfyre. Went out like a fighter. Queen indeed
@@motazksa4506she could have escaped if she wanted to. Meleys is faster than Vhagar and Caraxes. Rhaenys chose to stay because she saw and she knew she had the chance to injure Vhagar and somewhat incapacitate her and Aemond to fight in the future even at the expense of her and Meleys life.
The theory online to why Rhaenys went back and it makes sense, Aemond 's dragon is their biggest and most powerful weapon. Rhaenya knew that the dragons they have either don't have riders or are really young wouldn't stand much of a chance. And if she was able to kill that dragon when it's weakened it would have changed the tide of the war in their favor. More or less, she had a chance and took it.
I know no one will agree, but I felt bad for Aegon and Sunfyre. Aegon, for his ignorance and being in a position he did not want, and for Sunfyre being so devoted to Aegon that went to a battle it was not prepared for.
Which is interesting considering that in Game of Thrones, second sons were seen in a much better light. Ned, Tyrion, Bran, Oberyn, the Hound, Tommen- they were all second sons.
Rook's Rest is somewhat close to Dragonstone, and Rhaenys just witnessed Aemond assault his own brother, she looked terrified when she looked back. I truly believe the thought process here was "I could fly back to Dragonstone... but he's crazy enough to follow". She was also not ordering Meleys to spew fire, she wasn't aiming for the riders, she was trying to take out/damage the dragons that in case she dies, she does damage to the biggest nukes of the Greens. She died the death her daughter wished for herself, and by her dragon too. And she did not hesitate to fight, like she did in season 1 - she was now fully committed to Rhaenyra after she listened to her council and tried preventing the war as long she could. That's my reading; I don't see it as sacrifice at all. Every dragon flight at this point is like 'ok but I also may meet Vhagar'. She must have considered it, Meleys tried to claw at Vhagar's chest just as she did to Sunfyre. She doesn't have to kill them if they are maimed beyond fighting, though obviously she failed because of yet another Vhagar sneak attack.
Rhaenys has one of the only dragons with a chance to even damage Vhagar, idk why people think she just wanted to kill herself. vhagar is the entire power of the Greens, she saw a chance to damage it or get lucky and kill it and she took that chance
@@boat1280yes, high risk, high reward. She knew the price in the battlefield and it's satisfying how she's willing to accept her fate as long as she snuck the chance.
Rhaenys was a drangonrider through and through. She knew the only true power that stands a chance to win the war singlehandedly was that beast Vhagar. So she was gonna go out dancing in an attenpt to end that threat or injure it weakening it for the other dragons to inevitably finish it off.
I think Rhaenys was thinking "if I can kill Vhagar, this war is over." According to the books she actually stood a chance if she was fighting Vhagar alone, but sunfye tipped the scales. I don't like how Vhgar is somehow a stealth bomber. She shouldn't be able to ambush Meleys on a clear sunny day. Vhagar is twice the size of that castle, her wings would sound like thunder, there is just no way she's sneaking up on anyone.
Fr like how does she just pop out of nowhere? Did that shit with Luke too.... plus Meleys was fastest dragon idk why the show didn't show that cause that's her strength
@@lgt.jne3 I think the show partly showed that in Meley's fight with Sunfyre after the first hits Meleys reappeared so fast that neither Aegon nor Sunfyre ever realised anything. To the point of popping out of nowhere even though Vhagar is so loud I think one thing that partly explains it is that Vhagar mostly glides instead of actually flapping her wings because its just easier but I agree that we should've heard Vhagars wings in the background.
It's said in the books that she "might" have stood some chance there's a huge difference between the would have stood a chance and might have stood a chance and think a lot of people confuse the to as being synonymous but I do agree that there's no way vhagar should be surprising anyone with a ambush attack!..she's far too big for that
I dont think ppl are thinking about what was going on in that scene. Rhaenys was scanning the ground bc she made Vhegar crash, forcing her to stay low. Vhegar changed locations to regain advantage- just like moving after taking a shot in war. If you notice, Y AXIS battle just seems to be how dragons fight bc headon threatens botth riders with fire. Makes perfect sense. Rhaenys attacked sunfire from below despite being stronger.
@@aquele4virou3yeah the thing is rhaenyra was never mentioned as a kinslayer in the books if I recall she was only call maegor with tits that was it every Targaryen on the greens side including aegon were known as kinslayers.
@@MrFredsttCoz it made sense...Look at the greens and what happens to them after their "king" becomes a vegetable...In chess you never risk the king similarly here
We all love to hate Cole but his plan here was perfect. He set a trap for the Blacks and they walked right into it. I dont think retreating was an option for Rhaenys though. Once she was confronted by Vhagar who is female btw! Rhaenys simply had to take on Vhagar and she was doing well until the classic ambush attack. The Blacks have lost their biggest and most experienced dragon and looking pretty weak.
@@kathykay975 Not necessarily already prego. In season one it was used as after-morning cleansing. It was given to Rhaenyra in season one the night after her midnight stroll with Daemon. Also to the chamber maid Diana by Alicent minutes after the "incident" with Aegon. It's hardly enough time to get prego.
@@yassinemiri3555but by this episode's time, it has been a while since Crispy left the castle and she's still drinking the tea... which means, she's still feeling some morning sickness... she's preggo, I'm calling it.
It's crazy how so many people don't know the rules of war. She's not sacrificing or martyring herself. Neither is she feeling guilty. She's a dragonrider and warrior by default. When you go to war/battle, you fight till victory or you die. That's the role of kings/queens or any other leader leading an army. They're not just there for showpiece. You do it to embolden the army who's supporting and following you. Anyone who does anything else is seen as a coward.
If Rhaenys left the battle, it would have destroyed Team Black's reputation by leaving loyal bannermen to fend for themselves. With Team Black's reputation in the dumpster due to the death of Jaehaerys, she probably felt that it was worth the risk to try to at least maim Aemond or Vhagar.
Exactly. Flying off when the battle looks tricky isn't over would be like the captain desserting or the general giving up without a good fight tarnishing the queens oath and promises to her vassals. The realm would all swiftly bend the knee to the greens, no Rhaenys had to duke it out or die trying coz now they can tell tales of the fearlessness of the blacks even in overwhelming circumstances. Rhaenyra can even milk it dry and talk about how she will never abandon her role and Rhaenys has defended her honour as a Targaryen princess and dragon rider.
The last thing she saw was Vhagar fall to the ground, wounded. This was her best shot at finishing off the greatest threat to the Blacks. Plus, as you later saw, Cole's forces still took the castle. She would have stopped that if Vhagar was out of the picture.
I rarely cry at movies or TV shows, but I cried my lil eyes out at the princesses Rhaenys and Meleys death...They went out like warriors but Rhaenys will be Very missed...the show will not be the same without her ...She should have been queen 👑🖤🖤🖤
Rhaenys had no intention of being a martyr, she went back to defend Rook’s Rest and defeat Vahgar. She possessed the largest dragon the Blacks had and knew she needed to try damage/kill Vahgar if she could.
@@everburn I believe Caraxes is longer than Meleys, since he’s so lean. But I think Meleys is still the heftier of the two. Either way, they’re both the 2 largest dragons with riders the blacks had at the time.
"Princess Rhaenys made no attempt to flee. With a glad cry and a crack of her whip, she turned Meleys toward the foe." - "Beloved daughter of Lady Jocelyn Baratheon and Prince Aemon Targaryen, faithful wife to Lord Corlys Velaryon, mother and grandmother, the Queen Who Never Was lived fearlessly, and died amidst blood and fire..."
I think Cole was being held back mostly by his status. He has a lot of power now & is nearly unstoppable. His rage was always there. Before Rhaenyra chose him to become the kings guard, he was a soldier. He’s in his element right now, fighting.
Not 100% sure, but Rhaenys' plan seemed to be: 1. Take out Criston Cole, and scatter his army, keeping Rook's Rest as a place where Rhaenyra's forces can stage an attack on the capital by land. 2. Sunfyre shows up, and that immediately shifts her focus, drunken rider or not, a dragon is a dragon, plus, the King is now on the field of battle, she can take him out with as clear a conscience as possible, which seriously hampers the Green cause. 3. In the midst of Meleys and Sunfyre's fight, Vhagar shows up, and tries to scorch both her AND Aegon, she knows who rides Vhagar, meaning she knows that Aemond just tried to seize the throne for himself, she also knows Sunfyre is in no state to fly, meaning if Aegon dies here, Aemond becomes King uncontested, and given what she knows of Aemond, that's bad for EVERYBODY, Green or Black. 4. She turns back to try and take Aemond down, she knows Vhagar is too big, strong and hardy for Meleys to outright kill on her own, even Daemon (who is very high on himself, despite his actual skill) admitted he and Caraxes wouldn't be able to do it on their own, there's only one dragon alive that MIGHT be able to, and Vermithor burns most people that go near. However, she might be able to cripple Vhagar, or better, kill Aemond, deprive the Greens of their trump card, or deprive the trump card of the one person it listens to. Plus, with Aegon likely dead, were Aemond to die, that leaves Daeron, who is in Oldtown... and is SIX, he'd be much more pliant, and likely to listen to Alicent, Otto, and at that point, the Small Council, when they realize that the only way they live to see after this war would be suing for peace. 5. Meleys and Vhagar force each other into a death spiral, with both injuring the other, although given the size disparity, Meleys comes out of it the worse, but breaks off before crash landing. Rhaenys then circles back for TWO reasons, one, she knows Vhagar is in that direction, and is still committed to taking either him or Vhagar off the field permanently, but when she can't see them, she knows they're likely waiting to ambush her somewhere, injured as Meleys is, she wouldn't last another clash with Vhagar, and tries heading over Rook's Rest back toward Dragonstone and safety. However, Aemond IS smart, and knows this is both his and Rhaenys' only option, his only chance at an ambush before Rhaenys gains enough distance to spot Vhagar, and her only chance at making it to any kind of safe harbour before Meleys dies of exhaustion or the severity of her wounds. Aemond just won the dice roll, and the Red Queens That Never Were plummet into Rook's Rest, breaking its walls, and allowing the Green forces free passage inside.
Wow best line of reasoning I’ve seen regarding the action sequence. But I feel one glaring point of inadequacy was that Aemond didn’t seem to care about Meleys after seeing sunfyre fall. Like there was no attempt to pursue when Meleys initially flew off in apparent retreat. iirc he only swings Vhagar about after Meleys is ordered back into the fight by Rhaenys.
Seeing the size of Vhagar and how everyone just stops fighting as she takes flight.. can't wait for the Aegon's Conquest spinoff and see Balerion & Meraxes (and a younger Vhagar) in action
I think Rhaenys was feeling guilty about not killing them when she had the chance in S1E9. She saw Aegon fall and assumes he's dead. And if she can kill Aemond the war is over. So she turned back.
No, I don't think so. When you go to a battle, you fight till victory or defeat. That's all. Rhaenys's actions are well thought, she's not a conflicted idiot like Cole.
Rhaenys has always been too arrogant to listen to Daemon and she paid for it with her stupid life... She was a hypocrite who killed thousands of innocent lives and never felt guilty for it but she always thought she has the moral high ground lol... Daemon was the only reason Rhaenyra survived this long...
You keep asking why Rhaenys went back. As shown multiple times in previous episodes, everyone kept questioning why she didn't finish off the Greens when she had the chance in Season 1. In this episode, most of the major Green players, including Vhagar, Aemond, Aegon, and Cole, were on the battlefield. So, she had to make as much impact as possible, even if it meant sacrificing herself.
That's why Daemon asked Rahennys to attack Vhaegar together, that monster is huge but if Rhaenira sends 2-4 of their dragons, they would've killed it, Rahennys damaged hit badly, it's not so unbeatable, Rhaennira, looking for peace, wasted time and wasted her warrior.... great episode no doubt, keep rocking and stay safe....
"Snap that sunfyre in half" I will have you hang for that line😄😄😆 He is the most beautiful dragon to ever exist in Westeros. Also he had the most K/D too
“Princess Rhaenys made no attempt to flee. With a glad cry and a crack of her whip, she turned Meleys toward the foe.” - Fire & Blood. Rhaenys Targaryen and her dragon Meleys not backing down and bravely facing Vhagar. Princess Rhaenys could have escaped Ifs he wanted to. Meleys is faster than Vhagar and Caraxes. Rhaenys chose to stay because she saw and she knew she had the chance to injure Vhagar and somewhat incapacitate her and Aemond to fight in the future even at the expense of her and Meleys life.
Rhaenys' plan was to take Vhagar out or damage her as much as possible. I think Daemon's words of "if you killed them when you could, Luke would be alive, all of them would be" also is playing a part. She also seemed genuinely done with the war to begin with.
She went back to make sure the dragon was dead She understood in that moment, the blacks cant win if vhaegar is out tharw. So she wants to confirm it is dead. A noble and wise sacrifice
Aegon is not dead.. the point of Aemond going with his sword to "finish the job" would be moot if he was already dead. And rheanys probably wanted to kill vhagar to end the whole thing sooner and she was willing to sacrifice herself to do it. Also, let's not forget Aemond killed her grand(son/nephew).
Love how Meleys was tired after fighting Vhagar and Sunfyre and she looked back at Rhaenys like ,"Are we done here , I'm tired"...and Rhaenys' eyes well up as if to say "Not yet old girl" knowing that they both might die after being dragon and rider for life .... when Meleys' lifeblood is draining and she's terrified in her last moments she looks back at Rhaenys' who's like "I'm sorry old girl"....Imagine losing the only pet that you've had with you your whole life...
U know what sadder, Meleys died before Rhaenys. They way they looked at each other MY HEART 💔 Their bond was something else 😭 I cant believe I'm crying over a frictional characters.
You guys are COMPLETELY UNDERESTIMATING Rhaenys, perhaps because of her sex and age! Rhaenys didn't "sacrifice" herself. She circled back to finish Aemond off, because she didn't see a body at the crash site. She was simply aggressively trying to take out both enemies and was out maneuvered in an aerial fight. This happens to fighter pilots IRL! Had she succeeded in killing both, the war would have been over. (REMEMBER, she was the most experienced rider there!!!)
HOTD's episode 4 alone can single handedly knockout the entire combined episodes that The Acolyte has put up. The Build up, Writing, Dialogue, Acting, Visuals etc etc... are insane.
First off I just wanna say RIP to Meleys the RED QUEEN !!! She's one of the most badass dragons in the dance, and it was glorious to see her in full display. Even we book readers knew what was coming in this battle(in terms of the victor) it was still a surprise to see how the battle played out, an what actually happened between those three dragons in that battle. IMO if your watching this show and you don't consider these past four episodes as peak TV, then you're watching the wrong show !! 💯
the differnce between Daemon and aemond other than the D being on the other end is while both Daemon and Aemond think their brothers are not fit to be kings, Daemon never made a move against VIserys even though he had multiple chances, he wants to be the loyal guy to viserys and rhaenyra thats why he gets real mad when they dont trust him.
Larys is either a greenseer or a warg or both. He watches private convos through the eyes of rats or the wierwoods or both. He also now has free reign in the secret passages since Aegon hanged all of the rat catchers.
Arguably the greatest episode of the series so far because every scene mattered. I wouldn’t say criston Cole is a villain, criston is just the villains to the blacks which happen to be our protagonist. If we look at body count Rhaenys is more evil than criston considering how many innocents she killed in episode 9. Rhaenys plan was to win the battle she didnt expect both dragons to be there n the reason y Rhaenys didn’t retreat because the reward was well worth the risk. RIP my favorite live action female Targaryen.
@@giocatic7610 a lot of people do lol. I always said team black had a horrible pr before season 2 …when people believe daemon n rhaenyra killed their own spouses, when they haven’t been in kinglanding for 6 years, n having Rt obvious bastards on the iron throne didn’t help matter………
The main reason Aegon died is not because of his Ego, it is because of treason. If Cole and Aemond(Hand and his own brother) discussed this strategy they had he would have definitely allowed it. The reason he went himself to war is because no one is giving him importance and he felt he should do something. If they discussed the plan with Aegon all of this would not have happened and the greens would not have had any damage as Vhaegar was always gonna take out maelys and Rhaenys no matter what.
@@michaeljohn6357 In the books, he did not die, but he was severely wounded and constantly suffered from pain, to the point that he begged for death. Because of this, maesters gave him poppy milk, and he would be in a coma most of the time. Him and Sunfyre will have huge impact later
There was no shot Rhaenys was gonna be able to flee anyway. Aemond was there only to take out a dragon, that was the whole point of the trap. He would have chased her down even if she didn't go back.
Petty? Aegon has been bullying his brother since kids, he was the one making Rhaenyra’s kids join him in doing so. Rhaenyra’s kids probably trying to make friends with at least Aegon, because they were themselves forever bully by Alicent, calling them bastards. When that tension escalated in the fight were Aemond lost his eye, everyone is so insistent that would be enough for Aemond to want to hurt Luke, when in reality Aegon has been the main perpetrator and Alicent as their example to follow, as envious bullies. Now we also know Daemon and Aemond are not the same, Daemon would have never hurt his brother, and while he got out of hand with Rhaenyra, when wouldn’t hurt her either. When it comes to the people he considers family, he fights his demons and keeps them in check, not Aemond.
Alicent basically told anyone who could hear about Visarys's "last wishes". Otto echoed them at full volume during the coronation. It's not exactly a secret.
She went there to fight because the Blacks had to do SOMETHING. The Green's were expanding, taking castle after caste. If the Black's don't stand up and show strength, why would any House side with them? Daemon was nowhere to be found and Rhaenys was the second best Dragon Rider and had the second best Dragon; she was the strongest piece they had at the time. Imagine if she hadn't shown up and Vhagar makes an appearance? That castle would've surrendered IMMEDIATELY along with every other house in the Region. At that point, The Black's have lost. In short, the only option the Black's had was to try to fight and maybe win or do nothing definitely lose.
shes dealt a critical blow to the kings dragon, and eas able to smash Vhaegar and injure her. She thought if the damage to vhaegar was enough she could finish the job or atleast weaken Vh enough for someone else to finish the job. Plus remember thr earlier dynamic, in which she let them all live and probably feels guilty. She was determined to ensure that some good was done and she was able to do as much as she could.
I felt that Rhaenys couldn't stand her daughter's dragon being on the other side and doing all that damage. It seemed almost as if she felt responsible and gave it her all to try and end it.
Bro, it is a dream. He doesn't have any control. I have killed my friend in my dream doesn't mean I am actually going to do it. That is not how dreams work😂😂
I am actually surprised that you are confused about Rhaenys doings. She obviously didn't make any calculated decisions nor sacrificed herself for nothing... Simply she is a warrior, she swore to protect her queen and she fought until her very last breath to defend her honour. You can tell they both knew it was over when they looked at each other like that was their last ride together. In GOT Thyrion once mentions that dragons are as intelligent as men so we should assume Meleys knew what was going on as well as Rhaenys. They had no chance against Vhagar and they knew it but only cowards flee the battle. They instead chose to die a warrior's death honouring their oath. Running away to save their skin just to tell Rhaenyra that the castle was lost was not an option, especially when a chance to kill Vhagar would have turned the tables in the war. They charged into battle for what they believed in and they died with honour, as simple as that.
Also nobody knew that Vhagar would be there... The blacks had no idea that they were sacrificing Rhaenys. They obviously had to be cautious not to send Rhaenyra or Jacerys because of their importance to the lineage, but Rhaenys was only going there for a low risk task, in other words to set Cole and his army on fire from the comfort of her dragon, not to fight Vhagar. It was a trap that nobody forsaw but never the less Rhaenys ambraced her fate and fought with honour as they fell in the green's trap. That is why there was no goodbye between her and her husband nor it was seen as a scrifice in the first place. It was a turn of events dictated by Cole's immaculate strategy and the blacks came out on the losing end of it.
Imagine if Daemon was there. Either Caraxes and Meyles take down Sunfire and vhagar or the same thing happens and Daemon takes to kings landing as there's no dragons to defend it
I love your Channel, you get a Deep knowledge about production and stunts, and balance it with a complex character understanding and strong feelings to splinkle the mix.
Just when I was off the Criston Cole train after sending the Twin to die…I’m back on! You gotta appreciate a MAN WITH A PLAN. And that plan to lure out a Dragon from Team Black: Genius!
Achara calling Aemond petty is so mind boggling to me. Usually she’s one with good observation & takes but Jaby gets it right with HoTD. How did you watch that scene in last episode with Aemond and deduce that it’s a one time thing & not a pattern of tormenting throughout the years? Aegon is also the one who forced him into the brothel at just 13y old, basically the perpetrator of his sexual abuse.
Yeah it’s hilarious to me that everyone thinks that jace and Luc bullied aemond yet they don’t blame aegon who literally started all the bullying to begin with and how jace even looked up to aegon when he was younger aegon was doing it constantly even when the boys weren’t there at kings landing.
Being bullied is no excuse to kill your brother. Aemond is a straight psychopath and we will see that in the upcoming episodes. He is more fucked up than even Daemon
Daemon and Aemond are similarly rash but, Daemon would never try to kill his brother no matter how much he disagreed with him. Also, Rhaynes was blamed for not "finishing the job" and stopping the war when she escaped the palace... This time, she wanted to finish the job, but just could'nt.
“If there’s one thing to learn from House Of The Dragon, don’t laugh at Aemond, bad things will happen to you”. Showrunner Ryan Condal A more perfect sentence to describe a character on this show has never been said.
30:31 rhaeneys attacked in the hopes of injuring vagar in hopes another black dragon can finish her off. (Meleys is one of the oldest and strongest dragons) or kill her or maybe kill aemond so vhagar would be riderless and out of the picture, she is more experienced at the end of the day
Exactly. Literally as soon as she saw Ameond basically go after his own brother she knew she had no choice but to try and stop him and Vhaegar. You can see that in her expression. She didn't take the gig to sacrifice herself. She just knew there was no way of getting out of the situation unscathed and made an executive decision.
She thought she could kill Vhagar and given she just smacked Vhagar up 30 seconds before, she had reason to think that. But Vhagar is really stealthy apparently and blindsided them
Did you all recognize the dagger that Aemond picked? It's the same one Arya used to kill the Night King and what started the whole events of the Game of Thrones. Probably not true, but just a fun theory: What if the entire goal of Aegon's dream was to pass down the dagger through the generations? Because it wasn't a Targaryen who killed the Night King in the end as per his dream. It's the same dagger Viserys was holding when he told Rhaenyra about the dream. P.S. I think the reason why Rhaenys didn't retreat was that she just couldn't. The castle they were protecting belonged to one of their council members, and she can't just run away because things got difficult. If she left, Vhagar would have decimated the castle and also if Queen Rhaenyra abandons one of her council members' home so easily, then why would they follow her? She's honor-bound to protect them when the need arrives. Secondly, I also think she felt guilty that the last time, she could have ended the war when she escaped from King's Landing, but she didn't.
Also, rather than being upset about the illegitimate son, Rhaenys was actually trying to push her husband to openly acknowledge him! So she was not jealous or bitter!!!
Not only he bullied him all his life, not just the brothel scene. But also he does see himself as a better fit he said so in season 1 himself plainly and he is right.
FYI, like Meleys, Vhagar is a she-dragon. Meleys is one of the fastest dragons in the lore and even injured Vhagar would have never been able to catch her had Rhaenys chose to retreat. But that’s not how the story goes which is frustrating because Rhaenys was one of the best characters in the show and there appeared to be many ways for her to get away.
She didn't run away because its a war? There is no retreating - you fight until you die. If they run away from Vhagar always - then Team Rheanyra loses.
Basically Rhaenys saw it as an opportunity to finish Vhagar off while she has her “down” which is why she turned back if Vhagar is down an ariel attack could have finished her and that would have taken out a HUGE treat for the blacks , it was beautiful to see and I love how they didn’t do it the way it is in book , cause SPOILER in the book Rhaenys and Meleys were ambushed and killed vs them kicking a** which to me they did at a huge cost.
Plus she vounteered to go there and protect rooks rest from the Greens, would be weird to let them all just die and escape
Agree 100% she went back to finish the fight and took her shot at it….
Honestly they all could have ended it before it began, but Rhaenyra was reluctant to pull the trigger because she did not want to sully her father’s legacy nor did she want further kinslaying.
Take the book as supplementary, but remember the characters make decisions without foresight from it
And I didn’t say her plan was better.

The theory online to why Rhaenys went back and it makes sense, Aemond 's dragon is their biggest and most powerful weapon. Rhaenya knew that the dragons they have either don't have riders or are really young wouldn't stand much of a chance. Interesting
Rhaenys has one of the only dragons with a chance to even damage Vhagar, idk why people think she just wanted to kill herself. vhagar is the entire power of the Greens, she saw a chance to damage it or get lucky and kill it and she took that chance
yup just like another will later down the line
@@boat1280yes, high risk, high reward. She knew the price in the battlefield and it's satisfying how she's willing to accept her fate as long as she snuck the chance.
Vaghar was not following. Rhaenys had multiple chances to escape. But chose to die fighting. (seems dumb to me tho)
@lgth.jne3 that was alright. She was hidden by stormclouds which were larger, darker and louder than Vhagarr

Rhaenys truly died how her daughter wished to have
I think Cole was being held back mostly by his status. He has a lot of power now & is nearly unstoppable. His rage was always there. Before Rhaenyra chose him to become the kings guard, he was a soldier. He’s in his element right now, fighting.
Not 100% sure, but Rhaenys' plan seemed to be:

“Princess Rhaenys made no attempt to flee. With a glad cry and a crack of her whip, she turned Meleys toward the foe.” - Fire & Blood. Rhaenys Targaryen and her dragon Meleys not backing down and bravely facing Vhagar.
Princess Rhaenys could have escaped
Ifs he wanted to. Meleys is faster than Vhagar and Caraxes. Rhaenys chose to stay because she saw and she knew she
had the chance to injure Vhagar and
somewhat incapacitate her and Aemond to
fight in the future even at the expense of
her and Meleys life.
26:54 Sunfyre is watching his wings and being desesperated because he can't fly, poor dragon
Rhaenys' plan was to take Vhagar out or damage her as much as possible. I think Daemon's words of "if you killed them when you could, Luke would be alive, all of them would be" also is playing a part. She also seemed genuinely done with the war to begin with.
She went back to make sure the dragon was dead
She understood in that moment, the blacks cant win if vhaegar is out tharw.
So she wants to confirm it is dead.
A noble and wise sacrifice
Sunfyre nudging Aegon thinking they’re going for an ice cream 😂
Aegon is not dead.. the point of Aemond going with his sword to "finish the job" would be moot if he was already dead. And rheanys probably wanted to kill vhagar to end the whole thing sooner and she was willing to sacrifice herself to do it. Also, let's not forget Aemond killed her grand(son/nephew).
“Whore of Dragonstone” 😂😂 Crispy cole doesn’t leave a moment to insult Rhaenyra every time he speaks about her. Its really hilarious 🤣
Aegon giving a message drink and drive is bad for health 😂
Love how Meleys was tired after fighting Vhagar and Sunfyre and she looked back at Rhaenys like ,"Are we done here , I'm tired"...and Rhaenys' eyes well up as if to say "Not yet old girl" knowing that they both might die after being dragon and rider for life .... when Meleys' lifeblood is draining and she's terrified in her last moments she looks back at Rhaenys' who's like "I'm sorry old girl"....Imagine losing the only pet that you've had with you your whole life...
Daemon told her that she didn't do anything when she had the opportunity to end it, well she did.

Team Red for Queen Rhaenys Targaryen and the Red Queen, Meleys.
People forget that Aegon has treated his brother badly since they were kids. Even the pink dread prank was his idea
the differnce between Daemon and aemond other than the D being on the other end is while both Daemon and Aemond think their brothers are not fit to be kings, Daemon never made a move against VIserys even though he had multiple chances, he wants to be the loyal guy to viserys and rhaenyra thats why he gets real mad when they dont trust him.
People tend to block the thing Rhaenys did in eps 9 lmao

Did Aegon die though? I haven’t read the book but I’m pretty sure you can see movement from him
@@michaeljohn6357 In the books, he did not die, but he was severely wounded and constantly suffered from pain, to the point that he begged for death.
Is that a reason for wanting to kill your brother? Are you serious??
Though they are a lot alike unlike Aemond Daemon always had his brothers back- even when he didn’t like him at times
shes dealt a critical blow to the kings dragon, and eas able to smash Vhaegar and injure her.
It seemed almost as if she felt responsible and gave it her all to try and end it.
been anticipating this battle since S1 and they pulled it off beautifully, even knowing what was gonna happen i still got teary-eyed bravo HBO 👏🏿
Either Caraxes and Meyles take down Sunfire and vhagar or the same thing happens and Daemon takes to kings landing as there's no dragons to defend it
I love your Channel, you get a Deep knowledge about production and stunts, and balance it with a complex character understanding and strong feelings to splinkle the mix.
daemon,,,,you have my full support,, let the war crimes continue
Why
You send a dragon to kill and not expect the other one to do the same?
Just when I was off the Criston Cole train after sending the Twin to die…I’m back on! You gotta appreciate a MAN WITH A PLAN. And that plan to lure out a Dragon from Team Black: Genius!
Achara calling Aemond petty is so mind boggling to me. Usually she’s one with good observation & takes but Jaby gets it right with HoTD.
How did you watch that scene in last episode with Aemond and deduce that it’s a one time thing & not a pattern of tormenting throughout the years? Aegon is also the one who forced him into the brothel at just 13y old, basically the perpetrator of his sexual abuse.
agreed
Yeah it’s hilarious to me that everyone thinks that jace and Luc bullied aemond yet they don’t blame aegon who literally started all the bullying to begin with and how jace even looked up to aegon when he was younger aegon was doing it constantly even when the boys weren’t there at kings landing.
@@Mcherri Agreed. They were just little kids following Aegon’s lead as kids usually do with big brothers. They genuinely liked him.
Being bullied is no excuse to kill your brother. Aemond is a straight psychopath and we will see that in the upcoming episodes. He is more fucked up than even Daemon
@@ben1ben2ben1 Mmm. It’s not excuse but an explanation for his actions. Words have meanings & Aemond doesn’t fit the definition of psychopath.
Showrunner Ryan Condal

2:05 Note to self, goats are a baaa'd omen.
The witch
It signifies a presence of a witch.
Once she noticed the Dread Chonk was on the Battlefield there was no escape. She knew it.
Agreed, I also think she was trying to point out to him that Alyn could become another dragon rider if he just knew and was taught.
Not only he bullied him all his life, not just the brothel scene. But also he does see himself as a better fit he said so in season 1 himself plainly and he is right.
it is daemon with eyepatch. it just shows the similarity between them
FYI, like Meleys, Vhagar is a she-dragon.
Caraxes vs Vhagar will be lit! ✨😩 rip maelys
This episode sent a huge message to both sides
The fact that Rhaenys got killed by her daighter’s beloved dragon 😭😭😭😭😭😂😂😂
