Any tips for a budget cover? Haha I have no crew, one camera, no mics, and no lighting, and I think that's the case for a lot of people even though they still want to record a quality cover.
+Dillon Tortora Use similar angles to what I showed on here. Just use the one camera and shoot multiple takes while trying to play exactly the same. Pick up a shotgun mic for the camera so you can at least get some decent audio. Make sure you have at least some kind of lighting otherwise the camera will boost the gain and your video will look very grainy.
Woaahh this is absolutely awesome! If Jeremy ever sees this, I wanna say that I absolutely adore the style and look of the drum covers you make for Luke and all other drummers! Seriously, I'm going into film for University, and you're literally up there as one of my most inspirational film makers! :D Thank you for showing us how you make these videos. I've always been super, super curious as to how you made them over the years, and I love how they've developed so much :)
+Jeremy Tremp Thank you so much for the response! I have so, so many questions, but one big question I have is about lighting, and what you might recommend as a good starting lighting kit or light in general :) I checked out the one you used in the video, and it's a real beast of a light :D but sadly I'm on a slight budget. What would you recommend if say the budget I had was around $200? :)
Something like this to start out would do the trick. www.amazon.com/Fancierstudio-Digital-Continuous-Softbox-Lighting/dp/B0050K3DW2/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1453825432&sr=8-11&keywords=soft+lighting+kit
Great video! But I have a question. Where do you find high quality tracks for drum covers like this? Do you have access to multi teach versions of these songs so you can remove the drums? Do you play along with the studio recording and just bury the drums some how? Having trouble getting a good answer on this.
After so many years, getting introduced to Falling In Reverse by Matt Horn , getting to know Luke, and now seeing An old video of Luke's is such an interesting thing to happen
Loved the BTS, I was just wondering, what camera settings would you recommend if i'm recording a drum cover with a standard DSLR (i have a nikon D5200)

Thanks for your Video. My problem is to "mix" my drum video with the original track I'm playing. How can I lower the original drums on the track? thanks in advance!
This was extremely helpful, I've been wanting to step up my remix/cover game, I invested in drum mics, new interface, lighting, and 3 good quality cameras in the span of about 4 or 5 months, watching this gave me a lot of good tips and tricks for getting multiple shots and cool lighting ideas. I even went as far as going to my local tractor supply co. and bought a 20$ floor cart to set my tripod on to get smooth moving shots. I started with only 1 camera though, like Jeremy stated I would play the song though multiple times to get different angles and shots and then blend them all together once audio is all mixed down. If you have a mac iMovie will honestly get the job done but I recently upgraded to Adobe Premiere Pro and it's been awesome. If you check out my most recent remix, Don't Let me Down by Chainsmokers, you'll see I did ALOT of the same angles Jeremy uses and it's by far my best Video
Hi jeremy, how do you get the camera shake, that's really super dope, i really love some video like Animal as leader - physical education drum cover by luke, just how?
I am looking to get into this myself. I've got the main part down (being a beast drummer). I think what I would struggle with the most is the audio/mixing portion. I have someone who is a camera guy so he would be my go to with that. For audio, would you mind breaking down exactly what you used in this video? Or what Luke Holland uses? Trying to get my name out there and make it to that level someday! Thank you man really appreciate your work.
I shot most of the new ones on RED. I can't really recall what my settings where on the A7s. For sure use the crop mode otherwise you get terrible rolling shutter and the sticks look like noodles. Anything beyond that is not critically important.
Great film! I think I might be using some of your advices while recording my next covers :). The only problem, in my case, is the lack of equipment. Especially the lightning.
+Kuba Franczak I use these for some extra lighting. www.homedepot.com/p/75-Watt-Incandescent-Clamp-Light-HD-200PDQ/205139241 Not up to Jeremy's standards but they dont look half bad.
How do you get that blackout effect you've been doing on Luke's most recent videos on the lightning? Like how do I do to get everything around me to be dark and center The light on me? Like on he's rich chigga remix video or starboy remix?
+DanielHardcoreCovers I just use the powerful system built into Premiere CC. Lumetri color. LUTs are a one size fits all, I grade each project according to how I want it to appear depending on the subject matter.
How would you do a TH-cam livestream drum jam video with a mixer with a aux cord plugged into a iphone for jam songs what would i have to do to make it work i have a macbookpro
Home depot scoop/clamp lights. They are under 20 bucks for the 100 watt housing, then throw a 100 watt equivalent LED bulb inside. To soften it further, clamp a white bed sheet over the lamp so it will not throw harsh light and shadows.
an other question: about what ISO do you usually shoot? I wanna buy a camera but im not sure if I should invest more money for that extra ISO. I'm thinking of the Sony alpha 7 with ISO to 25600. Or do you recommend me the "s" series? I would love invest less money
So you should figure out the (native ISO) of the camera and stick to that. You don't want to just be cranking up the ISO. You should set it and then light for that. The native of the RED is 800 so I try to stick to that when I can.

That has to do with rolling shutter. Stick with 1/50 at 24, or try 60 at 1/125 but film vertically. Or get a better camera with less roll
