JankSmanks not everyone just wants to play constant fucking solos and dumb riffs. People do like to create catchy music, just as people like to listen to it.
JankSmanks I know! Iwas talking about the guy who originally commented. people think that musicians just want to play complex stuff all the time and its not the case
Well although I do think Luke is an absolutely fantastic drummer he’s not wasted on the band his skill just compliments the band like let’s say he plays a song that’s not very difficult for him he can be more in the pocket y’a know and sounds epic plus all the people in the word alive are very talented in their on regard so I don’t think your entirely right here but it’s your opinion
The ghost notes at 1:45 are such a nice touch underneath that entire part. This band is amazing, this drummer is great, and these cymbals are so NICE, super crisp and clean perfect sound for this.
stevenreyes005 they are indeed. You could check Aquiles Priester or maybe Dirk from Soilwork. Very hard stiff to play on double pedal. Not only on speed (like Nile) but on coordination.
Ghos notes at 2:00 maaan awesome. He is indeed an youtube drummer that plays fuckin well live with no editing and stuff like that. He has a great technique and creates awesome drum parts. Very clean and groovy.
I used to talk a lot of shit about Luke, but I dig this a lot. Seems he's concentrating less on stick tricks and more on sick parts now, he's definitely matured as a drummer!
well, you can't see his other leg and you can see him hitting the other drums the whole time. He is an experienced drummer, I would assume he is fast on single base, because you need to learn single before double.
***** don't be bothered man. you kill it. that trash crash is a nice addition to your sound by the way. PERFECT off hand crash paired with the Byzance. Digs
***** lol yes ... ''keeps the hair out of your face''... i wonder why black veil bride wears gloves... '' yeah hum, we have really sensitive hands '' , ah dear metalcore
I think the craziest part of this video is that the dude chilling on the far side of the kit was their drum tech for luke, but he's the current full time drummer. I saw them live in denver and he is still setting up his own kit lol.
I can't get into this kind of music or drums. I've tried to keep an open mind but it just doesn't make me feel any kind of rush or anything. Solid playing, not my cup of tea. Some of those breakdown parts just don't flow right to me, I don't know..
Patrick M. I want to like all music as a drummer and all but it's hard. But yeah you are right, you could easily butcher someone on here about it haha.

I had the same feeling when i play this kind for the 1st time ... I can't feel the breakdown. Then i practice and try to listen more about 2 or 3 months. so now i can play a bit better :) what im trying to say here that you should keep practicing a little bit more. may be it will work, like me !! :D
Hi Luke, I would really appreciate it if you made a vid about the riff from 0:45 - 1:10. I reallly like that part and I want to learn it as you play it.
If you want an explanation by Luke of of a groove idea similar to that one at 1:46 look up Luke Holland "ghosted groove" I think it's on the Drums 180 channel. Cheers biiiie :)
@@aesthetichorizon9077 yeah, i figured it out after getting some infos, he was acrually the drum tech and he played on Life Cycles tho, i was total wrong ahah
+Kerim Luca I'm mad late dude, TH-cam never tells me when people reply. But I love it. It's definitely Different. Happy that my favorite singer is back. And my favorite track on that album is definitely utopia.
Scott Bowers Not a problem, man! I love it aswell and Utopia is sick, but my favorite track is Hexes, just the atmosphere alone gets me every time I hear it. One thing I miss is the "heaviness" though. I really miss the screams/shouts.
MxZ ZippyBumpHD Regarding the sound you hear with this video - 1.) It's always somewhat left to chance how the audio will turn out in many of these live and very much on-the-go videos. That being said, the only issue with the audio in this video is that the mic on the Zoom was simply too close to the hihat. So when Luke goes to the hihat, particularly when he plays it closed, you can hear the mic "clipping." 2.) Provided you are listening to the video through decent ear-buds or head phones or decent speakers connected to your computer, you should be able to hear a reasonable audio recording based off of the Zoom Q3HD which was one of three cameras used to record this. The other two cameras are the Go Pro Hero 3 Silver edition model. Their audio is nowhere near as good as the Zoom Q3HD, so that is why I went with it for the sound. (-Chris)
Hahahaha, I thought a women was being assulted at 1:42ish. That had to be one of the worst sounding screams (growls, harsh vocals, whatever the hell you wanna call them) I have ever heard live.
Jack Heet look up "Chiodos" and scroll down and watch them live at warped tour chicago from last year.... Craig Owens does a REALLY REALLY REALLY HIGH PITCHED girly scream near the beginning of the set.

not a big fan of how he splits up time in fills, but you have to give him major props for the talent to do it. The stuff he writes isn't easy to play by any means. Some of his fills just don't seem to fit into what the rest of the band is playing, but maybe it's just me
Not trying to be mean or harsh, but that's honestly what makes his playing so distinctive among his contemporaries. Metal (especially metalcore) at its most straightforward can come off ver monotonous to some. Luke is applying his take at blending modern metal with a hint of Gospel and djent grooves. Like it or not, he's paving the way for other drummers in the genre, as well as younger drivers who aspire to be and play more like him.
paucceri Trying to see if I just was being cocky about it for no reason but I've humbled myself to listen to it and tried to enjoy it and I can't. Nothing to prove I figured maybe if I could like it I could learn a lot of neat stuff but not much interested me.
