I have no idea to this day what those two Italian ladies were singing about. Truth is, I don't wanna know. Some things are best left unsaid. I'd like to think they were singing about something so beautiful it can't be expressed in words, and it makes your heart ache because of it. I tell you those voices soared, higher and farther than anybody in a grey place dares to dream. It was like some beautiful bird flapped into our drab little cage and made these walls dissolve away....and, for the briefest of moments, every last man in Shawshank felt free.
When I was a kid I found a cassette tape walking home from school that had only this song on it. I must have listened to it hundreds of times and never knew the words or composer. Every time I hear this song it gives me such a warm feeling. Such a beautiful song.
The first forty or so comments do not even mention the composer....as though we just expect perfection from Mozart without even acknowledgment.....truly great performance ladies by the way...
Saw a live concert for first time at the State Opera House, Vienna. Marriage of Figaro. I cried tears at seeing and hearing the genius of Mozart. Best part was knowing the libretto. April 2022.
The fact is that I had been listening to classical songs from our local radio stations when I was a little boy... Not hearing any word wasn't an issue, I only cared about the sounds from the background. Not knowing the composer, was never, an issue but the voices from the oratorio. Growing up to finding the likes of Pavarotti and Bocelli and etc from the Internet gave me a relief. Till this moment, from my phone to my home and car, all I listen to is songs of this nature. The likes of Bartoli and Fleming, Mary Poppins ( Julie Andrew), Beethoven, Pachelbel's Canon, Handel, Mozart etc... Give me excess of these songs 🎵 I am well pleased. Blessings 🙌
It is beyond belief that WQXR would post this without listing their entire names. It is their vocal talent on display. And then the non sequitur about Richard Tucker award. Did one or both win this award? What in the world. NADINE SIERRA. RACHEL WILLIS-SORENSON.
Remains one of my favorite duets in Buffa to this day. I return over and over to it when I want to hear sublime beauty. (and by the way - for those that don't know the opera - The Countess is dictating a letter to Sussana to trick the count - but the undertone is just how much she still loves him, cad that he is, and as she says with memories of the first love - he will understand). God I love it!
Perfect. Genius Mozart. I love this duet so much. Contessa and Susanna's voices should always share this kind of compatible warmth. It helps to justify the plot they're hatching to expose Il Conte. Bravissimi.
Praised for her vocal beauty, seamless technique, and abundant musicality, Nadine Sierra is being hailed as one of the most promising, young talents in opera today. She was named the Richard Tucker Award Winner in 2017 and was awarded the 2018 Beverly Sills Artist Award by the Metropolitan Opera. Having made a string of successful debuts at the Met, Teatro alla Scala, Opéra national de Paris, and Staatsoper Berlin, she has become a fixture at many of the top houses around the world. On August 24th, 2018, her debut album, There’s a Place for Us, was released under the Deutsche Grammophon/Universal Music labels.
What enchanting aria. First time a heard this was in the movie "The Shawshank Redemption" th-cam.com/video/p8STa0EoUwI/w-d-xo.html where the leading actor (Tim Robbins) made the other inmates listen to it. Anyone who has seen this scene and is not moved even a little, has a garbage bag instead of an heart...
It’s a beautiful song I didn’t know what they were saying so I d been sending it to my friends at work saying this is you at work gossiping.....and technically I was rught
I don't understand Italian, but it sounds like they're saying "He'll copy that" (meaning he'll understand). Isn't that a Military phrase, meaning to understand? "Copy that."
Very beautiful. But the gold standard is Fleming and Bartoli together. Perhaps also Te Kanawa and Freni. And you’ll be shocked by this rendition of Anneleise Rothenberger and, of all singers, Gwyneth Jones th-cam.com/video/FO_4BPSTnG8/w-d-xo.html
I agree 100%. They make these two look like amateurs, especially where dynamics and blending are concerned! And acting, and looks and technically and vibrato. Ok, pretty much everything. th-cam.com/video/wd5nFd3utLg/w-d-xo.html
Seems like a demonstration of here's a fully supported voice on the left and an under-supported voice on the right (from the audience's point of view).
Dame Sierra is nice, she moves very well, but the voice is far from Mozart ... the success she is enjoying now may not help her improve .... Barbara Hendricks or lieder music could help her
plainly terrible rendition of such a beautiful aria with ghastly vibrato and throatiness and some clown-like "acting" in lieu of true expression. no thanks, I'll stick with the many more beautiful versions

Recuerdos de niñez-
I wonder who had enough of it and threw the cassette out their car window! Oh, well their loss.
One of the most amazing pieces of music ever composed. And a wonderful performance. Thank you
This piece of music is the proof that music has no language, it just flows in you.
The first forty or so comments do not even mention the composer....as though we just expect perfection from Mozart without even acknowledgment.....truly great performance ladies by the way...
I think this is the best performance on this song ever I've listened, perfect pitch and expressions.
Their voices are divine.
Saw a live concert for first time at the State Opera House, Vienna. Marriage of Figaro. I cried tears at seeing and hearing the genius of Mozart. Best part was knowing the libretto. April 2022.
One of the very few pieces of music to give me goosebumps every single time.
Such beautiful voices, I have never heard a better rendition of this song.

This puts me at peace with the world.
Outstanding, and the singer on the right has a great pair of earrings.
my eyes kept focusing on them
Beautiful.. the lady in black has just a little extra tonal depth . Incredible. Both are powerful ...
Gets inside and vibrates body organs

I think this is the best version I've seen so far on TH-cam.

This opera is full of wonderful duets. My favorite is the one Susana and the Count sing together, Crudel, perche finora far mi languir cosi.
하루한번씩 들어요
I listen once at least everyday
Two good and exciting voices but oh so different timbre they have!
Absolutely beautiful ❤

Willis Sorensen has such excellent legato here!

Nadine is soooo hot!
Isn't that the truth 👍

Let’s go find the 48 jerkweeds who gave it a thumb’s down and kick them in the shin.

I’d be willing too spend a month in the hole to play this.... 😎
사람이 이런 소리를 낼수있다는게 신기하다
그전에 모짜르트 선생님은 더 위대하시고

the pianist isn't up to much
I just listened to Gundula Janowitz and Lucia Popp, so, ahem..., no.
I agree 100%. They make these two look like amateurs, especially where dynamics and blending are concerned! And acting, and looks and technically and vibrato. Ok, pretty much everything.

It’s ok not to compare... and to let the stars of today shine :)
They did a great job.
Seems like a demonstration of here's a fully supported voice on the left and an under-supported voice on the right (from the audience's point of view).
What on earth is Nadine Sierra doing to her top lip..looks shes scratching an itchy spot...very offputting🙄
lol noticed that too
I think she was trying to be in character but I agree that it was distracting in this situation and she shouldn't have done it.
Dame Sierra is nice, she moves very well, but the voice is far from Mozart ... the success she is enjoying now may not help her improve .... Barbara Hendricks or lieder music could help her

too much for sierra
