    Made these today. With the exception of adding a light sprinkling of flaky sea salt on the freshly poured chocolate layer, I followed the recipe exactly as written. These bars are amazing. The texture of the peanut butter base and the chocolate topping together are absolutely delicious.

    I've been making these for decades. They are always a huge hit, and they taste exactly like Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Pro Tip: If you're using just chocolate for the topping (rather than a mixture of chocolate and peanut butter), you will want to leave them in the fridge only long enough for the chocolate to be *just barely* set but not yet hard (~20-25min). If you chill completely before cutting them into squares, the chocolate will shatter and some pieces will become detached from the peanut butter layer. Doesn't affect the taste at all of course but it does look messy, so if presentation is important (e.g. giving as a gift, or for a party, etc.), then you'll want to make sure you cut before it gets hard.

      how long before the party should I make it?

    • @WindsongVirtual
      @WindsongVirtual 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@zeeshawnali4078 I usually make it the same day, or back in my employee days when I would take it to work for "treat day" I'd make it the evening before. Leftovers (if there are any LOL) will keep in the fridge in an airtight container for a few days, but I'd say they're "optimal" (best flavour) when consumed within a couple of days.

    I made these tonight and they are fantastic! I did use less sugar as I am very sensitive to the taste of it, especially powdered. 1 1/4 cups worked so well for me! A new summer favorite, I love keeping it in the fridge.

  • @nancy-stille

    I made these and took them to my in-laws tonight. Everyone loved them! My mother-in-law even asked for the recipe. I don’t have graham crackers or biscoff cookies where I live but I was able to find a nice substitute. I loved the fact that this is a no-bake dessert and that I didn’t have to turn on my oven in this stupid hot summer.

    • @popeye4016

      What did you substitute for the graham crackers?

    • @yomintyfresh
      @yomintyfresh 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I saw that popeye4016's comment is really old but wanted to add this for the future. :) I live in a place where graham crackers are an expensive imported item and sub in butter cookies. They are mostly there for a little crunch and aren't the main flavor, so I typically get the generic version of Bahlsen butter cookies. Crunchy sugar cookies or British digestive biscuits would probably be good. In the US, I would also consider something like Nilla wafers (for the rest of the world: they're not wafers, just little vanilla cookies).

    I was raised on this treat. It was a main staple on our school cafeteria for life. Probably still is. We call em hollywood squares. I might have a cookbook put out by the school in the 80's. Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
    Thanks for posting this old school treat. ❤

    I have just made this using your recipe, in the UK, so I used digestive biscuits. However, I did not use additional sugar as you did in the recipe. As that would have been too sweet. There is sugar in the chocolate and in the biscuits. it was perfect, I can't imagine how sweet it would have been had I added the icing sugar (powdered sugar). We don't add sugar to our whipped cream either in the UK. Also, I used peanut butter from here without added sugar. The bars were lovely, but they didn't last long. thank you from the UK.

    UPDATE: yes! Scoring the pb base worked! Allowed warm chocolate to fill the grooves and stay on. Makes an interesting pattern in the cut profile as well.
    ok, I made these and are they delicious! Only problem is that top layer popped off when cut into bars. Will try drawing grooves into PB to help choco "grab". Thanks. Rich and addicting.

    By using natural peanut butter the sugar is greatly reduced. Vanilla needs to be added to the base. Also many crunchy things can be used instead of Graham cracker. Rice Krispies, Chex, Corn Flakes or even granola.

    Great recipe!
    Here’s a few tips though.
    1: instead of using the microwave, use a hot pot of water with a glass bowl in it to melt the chocolate and butter.
    2: to give your chocolate a glossy texture add a few splashes of double cream.
    3: when transferring your mixtures to your tray give them a little shake, this will even out your layers and make them perfectly flat.
    4: I would also recommend you use a dark chocolate rather than a milk one since the peanut butter mix is very sweet.
    Love this channel, and this recipe is really delicious!!!
