      Thanks! Glad you like it. 😊
      And YES, you can import any SRT and assuming you exported it correctly AND it's (obviously) the same clip, then you don't even have to align anything, it'll be aligned by itself. 😉

    Great info! One issue, though: I need to export a QT with several languages as CEA-608 subtitles. But FCPX just allows me to select one under the Multitrack menu... any idea how I can do this within FCPX without having to add them manually in some app like Handbrakle? Many thanks!

    • @postpros-e
      @postpros-e  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately, that's not (yet?) possible from within FCP. You can of course export all the languages as separate .SCC (or .SRT) files and use an external app to embed them all after the fact. For example, with Handbrake I believe, yes. Simply embedding the subtitles shouldn't compromise quality either.

    How do you or can you change the font of captions?

    • @postpros-e
      @postpros-e  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      *_You_* don't. If anything - assuming it's even supported by the chosen format - the *_viewer_* does/can.
      You're not confusing them with regular ol' TITLES, are you? Because captions and titles are of course two entirely different things i.e. for entirely different use-cases.

  • @SpacedOutStudiosEntertainment
    @SpacedOutStudiosEntertainment ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you! No one was showing how this can be done to export the media with the captions in the video file (not burn in). However, my issue is that when I go to export, it won't let me choose the 608 as an option. Any ideas what could be the cause? Even though the 608 is the only set I have in the timeline.

    • @postpros-e
      @postpros-e  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Thanks, glad I could help!
      I'm assuming you mean how to *_embed_* the captions? If you have 608 captions and it's not allowing you to embed, I can only assume you're using a codec that doesn't allow for that? What are you exporting as? Have you tried other destinations e.g. Apple Devices?
      Is it important they be embedded? Because you can of course always just simply export the sidecar file and use that.

    • @SpacedOutStudiosEntertainment
      @SpacedOutStudiosEntertainment ปีที่แล้ว

      @@postpros-e It seems that FCPX does not allow export of 608 captions to MXF Broadcast format. Which is exactly what I need them for to deliver a video to networks like MTV. At least that is what I have found on Apple support forums.
      I even tried embedding in another format, then exporting to MXF, but it strips them on export.

    • @postpros-e
      @postpros-e  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SpacedOutStudiosEntertainment Aha. MXF. I knew it had to be something like that. But I can’t honestly say if that’s a limitation of the MXF container format or of Final Cut Pro. I have to assume that it is a limitation of MXF. So delivering the subtitles as a sidecar file is not an option?

    • @postpros-e
      @postpros-e  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SpacedOutStudiosEntertainment Maybe try Handbrake? I have no idea if it does MXF, but it does embed captions.

    • @SpacedOutStudiosEntertainment

      @@postpros-e Unfortunately it isn't. But I ended up restarting the entire project in Adobe Premiere Pro to get the subtitles right. All good now, but I prefer FCPX..now I may have to invest in Premiere long term.... Anyway Thanks again! and Happy New year!

    hi there, i want to ask, how do you add the black background in the subtitles?

    • @postpros-e

      They are auto-generated upon embedding them.

    • @fannyhubart-salmon7862
      @fannyhubart-salmon7862 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@postpros-e I am interested in getting rid of the black background. Do ,you have a suggestion? I tried changing the role to CEA-608. I can then get rid of the box but but then, I can't seem to find the way ttu change the font.

    • @postpros-e
      @postpros-e  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@fannyhubart-salmon7862 Closed captions are a simple industry standard. They are not meant to be regular titles and are therefore extremely limited in formatting. Even if there _were_ an option for certain parameters such as font, that would be irrelevant and misleading, since which font, its size etc. used on *_the viewing end_* is relative to the settings of the CC interpreter.
      Again, they are _not_ meant as a replacement for regular titles. If you need specific control over typeface options beyond maybe bold, italic etc., then you need to be using just a regular title.

    • @postpros-e
      @postpros-e  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I created my SRT file in TextEdit and added SRT to FCP under Modify > Assign Caption Roles > Edit Roles > +SRT. However, when I go to File > Import > Captions > Import as Role: SRT, it does not allow me to select and upload my SRT file. I can see the file itself, but I can't click on it and it's greyed out. Any ideas? Thank you.

    • @postpros-e
      @postpros-e  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Patricia… first and foremost it has to be saved as a UTF-8 file and of course, have SRT as the suffix. Beyond that, I'd be surprised if you actually get it imported AND work correctly, since if there's even so much as a single comma or semi-colon missing or misplaced, it isn't going to happen. I'd highly recommend getting an app that creates standard SRTs with everything format conform, not *_TextEdit_* of all things, and save yourself a LOT of potential headaches (such as this one). Cheers.

    • @postpros-e
      @postpros-e  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey… there must be an issue with the formatting. Not conform to the SRT guidelines. Where are they coming from? One would need to look where it's cut short and simply check the file (it's a regular text file) and see what's going on. Same for the odd characters.

    • @OHMYJOSHH
      @OHMYJOSHH 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, you're right I just checked in a regular .mov file format, and that enables me to switch embed on 🤔thats weird, the client preferred MXF as this was for a television spot, you would think a broadcasting format would enable that though right smh 🙄

    • @postpros-e
      @postpros-e  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OHMYJOSHH Bingo. That's because *the MXF standard does not in fact support embedding of CCs* . Apple, for better or worse, sticks to standards. Other NLEs that CAN embed them are either simply working non-standard (for the sake of artificially padding their feature list), which is _never_ a good idea, or using different MXF codecs.
      So you can either export the CCs as an SRT file and give that to the broadcaster to embed themselves OR jump over to e.g. Resolve via XML and export it from there. Whether THAT then conforms to what the broadcaster needs otherwise, I don't know.

    And how to remove the black background to SRT subtitles. ?

    • @postpros-e
      @postpros-e  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Juan! The black background is NOT generated by FCP.
      SRT is a standard that defines the standard look of subtitles, which includes the background for legibility. If you check the gear icon at the bottom right of THIS VIDEO you will see the options for subtitles and what you can change and what you can't. HERE, on TH-cam, for example, you can only change the COLOR of the background, but you can't turn it off completely.
      If you need subtitles that you can define entirely yourself, then you need to use just regular titles. But those cannot be turned off, but rather are "burnt-in"!
