@@Brad_West thanks. That’s an idea. I’m trying to do something like U2’s Window in the Sky version that starts with soccer ball, birds, etc.., since the video is about the players b ball career and chronological. Going to be challenging.

This is great! quick question though. The censor effect, that doesn't seem to come with my Final Cut Pro. Or am I missing something? Is this an add on that I have to get? if so how would I get that? I need to blur out faces and this method seems really easy with the censor. Thanks!
@Brad_West. Love your video on FCPx tracker but can it be used to track a video clip in a video ,similar to how you added and tracked text and if so how? Thank you
Yes, you certainly can. So first you track the object in your first clip, using the add track option in the inspector window. Then you drop the second clip on top of the first clip. Click on the transfrom icon at the bottom of the viewer window, or right-click on the viewer window and select "Transform". Then you should see a drop-down box at the top of the viewer window next to "tracker". From there you can select the track and the resize and position your clip accordingly. Hope that helps 😄👍🏼
Brad- Thanks for another great and informative video. But you have a lot of room reverberation in your audio, so how about a tutorial to reduce room reverberation? Thanks!!
FANTASTIC TUTORIAL! I'm trying to whiten the teeth of a speaker, but not having too much luck. Would love to see a tutorial, specifically about that. Keep up the great work!
Even though I already knew how to do this, it was nice to watch this video. I like how you make your tutorials - to the point. I recently moved back to Final Cut after 5 years of editing in Premiere Pro and I must say I was so surprised that Final Cut has tracking built in.....awesome!
Thank you so much for your feedback! 😊🙏🏼 I’m so glad we finally have tracking in FCP! We’ve BEEN waiting 😂 A few years ago I really tried to get into Premiere and I couldn’t do it. Just not for me. Welcome back to FCP!
With the tracker selected in the inspector window you can scrub through the clip and move the tracker on the incorrect keyframes to manually update it. Hope that helps!
Thanks for the video! I'm trying to track something that goes off screen, but the tracker goes bananas, haha. Do you have any ideas or suggestions on any fixes?
I’m glad you enjoyed it Anton! Yeah that can be tricky but I’ve found a way that works for me. Let FCP do the track until it goes out of frame and then go frame by frame to manually adjust the tracking point off-screen where you think the object would be. You usually only have to manually do that for a few frames 😄👌🏼
Great and easy understandable, thank you Brad. Furthermore I would like to know whether you use a teleprompter for talking and if yes, how do you do that, that your eyes arent moving from left to right xD
I do actually. I like to plan my videos out to (hopefully) give as much value as possible in the shortest amount of time. I use this one: th-cam.com/video/VP06TIMMZcg/w-d-xo.html
@@rocus80m I wonder if it's because of the size of the screen? 🤔 It's possible that because it's a small screen and relatively far away (I shoot at about 50mm) that my eye movement is less noticeable?
Great video! Hey, I'm trying to put a logo on a butternut squash rolling across a table. The issue I'm having is I want the logo to disappear as if it is attached to one spot on the butternut squash and is rolling around the squash. What would you use in final cut?
I think Pixel Film Studios has a surface tracker plugin that might do the job, although I haven’t tried it out. It’s not the easiest effect to pull off. There are probably ways to do it in after effects as well if you have it. If you get it right feel free to share a link so I can see it 😄👍🏼
Hello, I have a video clip showing some damage to the front of my house. In it is a part where my home address is showing. How can I create a tracker that blurs the house numbers as a result of me panning around the house where the street address numbers are showing? I'm using FCP 10.6.5. I'd also use this method to blur out a license plate when filming a vehicle. Thanks for considering.
Instead of dropping the effect directly onto the clip in the viewer window like in tip #3, you would first track the street address or licence plate, then add the effect and choose the track you did from the top of the viewer window. 👍🏼
@@Brad_West Thank you. I didn't realize I could actually drag an effect to a portion of the video (address on house) and thereby create a tracker from that. That ended up working just fine and I was able to create the tracking object with the "Blur" effect. I discovered that the blur showed before the numbers and after so I dragged the tracker object out of the scene just before and just after the panning of the address. Now the blur is not visible except during the time the address is showing. Thanks so much for your reply!
That is a tough one. I would start in the middle of the shot, track backwards and forwards. As the object moves out of the frame, stop the track and adjust in manually frame by frame. That is pretty much the only way to do it 👍🏼
I enjoyed this video a lot! I’m so happy that FCP finally introduced tracking tool and I’m happy that you covered all those ways of use it! Super useful!
You can most certainly track callouts with FCP’s built in tracking feature. The entire title/template will track with whatever object you track. If you want the point on the callout to track independently of the text, you might need to use a plugin. I use mCallouts to do that: th-cam.com/video/tIlcoQ6PVhs/w-d-xo.html Hope that helps 😊🤞🏼
Maybe you can address this. Attempting to use FCPX Tracking for the first time (instead of 3rd party tracking plug-ins) and I have found that the FCPX Tracker does not work on cropped video. The tracker perfectly follows the object identified, but, when applied to something else like an arrow pic (or text) to follow the object, the arrow doesn't follow properly on the cropped video. If I remove the cropping from the video, then I see that the arrow follows exactly. It just doesn't track properly when the video is cropped in. My 3rd party tracking plug-ins don't have this problem, so I guess I have to stick with that unless there is some setting I am missing to make the FCPX tracker work.
I haven’t experienced that issue personally but my suggestion would be to do your tracking on the uncropped clip. Then select the clip and the arrow or whatever you’re tracking and hit Option G to create a confound clip. Then crop the compound clip. Bit of a workaround but I think that might solve your problem 😄👍🏼
@@Brad_West I tried your suggestion of the compound clip with tracking of objects with no cropping, and then applying the cropping to the compound clip in the timeline. That does work but is a massive pain in the ass, especially for my workflow. It takes many times longer to do this. I think I will just have to stick with the 3rd party tracker. I was trying to move away from 3rd party plug-ins when I can because a new FCPX update might break them and the way the built-in tracker works is a bit better in many instances for applying to objects to track on top of the timeline. The problem is, I have cropping on EVERY SINGLE video clip in my timeline to remove the date, time, location, etc. info that is stamped at the bottom of the original content. Here is a video showing what I am talking about: th-cam.com/video/P7uqg0FiraQ/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for sending that screen recording through, that helps a lot to see what you’re struggling with. I don’t think there is an easy way around that cropping problem. There is however, another solution but it doesn’t involve a FREE third-party plug-in. It’s called mCamRig from MotionVFX end it works as an adjustment layer so you can track the way you normally do without the cropping and then use mCamRig to create that cropping/zoom effect. It doesn’t solve the issue of wanting to move away from third-party plug-ins all together but at least you can use Final Cut Pro’s built in tracking and just add the mCamRig adjustment layer over the top.
I have just liked and followed you! it is a new feature and thanks for sharing. just a quick question, what if you have to track a object get out of the screen or come into the screen? does the tracker can also make the logo/text disappear or appear?
Thanks for watching and for the support! The tracker will be able to track something until it gets to the edge of the screen. After that you would need to go frame by frame adjusting the trackers position in order to manually “move or track” it off screen. I hope that helps! 🤞🏼
What are you going to use the object tracker for? Let me know! 😊👇🏼
Probably for titles..thank you for all ur videos

@@Brad_West Thank for the reply, I love your content. I’m trying to learn FCPX and get started on things myself. I’m happy to have subscribed.
Thanks so much for the support! There are loads of tutorials on the channel. If you are struggling with anything, feel free to let me know 😄👍🏼
Nice man keep going 👍❤️
Appreciate it 😊👊🏼

Thank you. I appreciate the support 😄🙏🏼
@@Mega_Casual Awesome! I'm glad you were able to get it working for that footage. 😄🙌🏼
Great video! One question. How can you track something that starts off screen?
That is a tough one. I would start in the middle of the shot, track backwards and forwards. As the object moves out of the frame, stop the track and adjust in manually frame by frame. That is pretty much the only way to do it 👍🏼
That’s what I was afraid of. Thanks. I’m proud of myself for thinking the same way. Have a good one. Thanks again.
Yeah you’re 100% on the right track 😄🙌🏼
Nice vid! Thanks
Appreciate that Andy 😊🙌🏼
Thanks for doing this bro. 🤜🏽🤛🏽
You're welcome! Thanks for watching 😄👊🏼
Very well explained lotta great information thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching Andre!
As always, Brad, this was very helpful! Thank you!
Happy to hear it and I’m glad you enjoyed it 😊🤙🏼
This was really helpful. Thanks
I’m so happy to hear that 🙌🏼
I enjoyed this video a lot! I’m so happy that FCP finally introduced tracking tool and I’m happy that you covered all those ways of use it! Super useful!
Thanks Joanna! Yeah we’ve all been waiting a long time for built-in tracking. Glad we finally have it 😄🙌🏼
when I click on published parameters nothing pops ups for me? any suggestions
Are you referring to the "subtle" title effect? That's a built-in effect, so I can only think of trashing the FCP preferences to see if that helps.
Very comprehensive. Thanks mate.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
great video. is there a way to do tracking callouts? or do I need to use a plug in?
You can most certainly track callouts with FCP’s built in tracking feature. The entire title/template will track with whatever object you track.
If you want the point on the callout to track independently of the text, you might need to use a plugin. I use mCallouts to do that: th-cam.com/video/tIlcoQ6PVhs/w-d-xo.html
Hope that helps 😊🤞🏼
Hell yeah! Thanks man, very helpful😎
You're welcome!

Already Certified ! In fact, i have PhDr in Like Button Hitting !
Boom! 🔥 That’s awesome, thank you so much!
Brad, really a very good tutorial, thanks!! A question, Do you know is possible to add tracking into a 360º Stereo Video?
Thank you! 🙏🏼 I’ve never actually tried but now I’m curious. I’ll look into it.
You legend. Thanks for sharing.
No problem 👍 Glad you enjoyed the video 😄
very very helpful... thank you for this!
You are so welcome 😊🙏🏼
@@Brad_West Thanks for the suggestion. I have mCamRig already, so I may play with that. I'll just keep using my 3rd party tracker for now.
😄👊🏼
Thank you very much 🙏🏻 Great tutorial.
Thanks 😊🙏🏼 I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent! Thanks.

That was a fantastic tutorial. It was so well explained, it was not just easy to follow but also great to learn how this works too! Thank you!

Good topic! Love it. Thanks for your tutorial
You’re welcome! Glad you enjoyed it 😄👊🏼
Thanks for doing it. Great job
You’re welcome! Appreciate you watching! 😄🙌🏼
