    It actually feels like apple are listening to what people want from FCPX with these updates - Thanks for the info and saves me from reading all those release notes.

    This is a great 2nd step in the right direction! The first step was allowing captions in the first place. The second step was allowing SRT. The 3rd and final step will be allowing us to export JUST the captions without the video. I feel that Apple will eventually allow this...hopefully.

      Actually.....you can, and I totally forgot about this when making the video. From the File menu, choose >Export Captions - then choose the format - onlly the captions text file is exported, then you can upload the SRT right to TH-cam.

    This is pretty big. Nice addition, and quickly done, too.

    This is excellent, expècially the SRT, I will need to try if it is quicker to write captions in FCP 10.4.4 than in the TH-cam captions editor, this one takes quite long!

    Recently purchased FXFactrory's Caption Burner for $129 for this exact feature of 1) Exporting SRT, and 2) burning in captions for Instagram. Darn it!

    It would be great to burn-in captions when exporting on customized Compressor presets too, anyway great addition

    Thanks for the nice overview.
    But a little thing is wrong. Same as before you can export captions just from the menu as file. This includes SRT.
    No need to export the movie.
    Another note don't use color coding with SRTs - this will call for trouble ;-)

    Question: I already have some youtube videos that are captioned, and youtube allows me to download the SRT file. Is there anyway to automatically add that SRT file to the FCP timeline, and turn it to a burn-in caption? That way I can easily share the video with captains to other platforms such as facebook.

      Yes. You export the SRT from the file menu (something I regretfully did not cover in this video), then import the SRT from the import menu - then follow the steps I covered to create the burn in. I just tested this workflow, works great. Thx for your feedback and question.

    My client requires the text colour and solid bar background to be specific colours and fonts, I don't see a way to customise this effectively even when using CEA-608....is there a plugin that adds more customisation for instances like this?

    I have a video with a SRT captions track, and when I follow all the steps to export with burn-in subtitles, they do not get burnt in. Any ideas what might be wrong?

    I have major concerns here,
    There is no way I can format .srt captions to opaque background, change the font, colour and adjust it inside the safety margins. How to fix that?

    • @rippleguys
      @rippleguys  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      SRT captions are not subtitles. They are captions that have very basic text formatting. If you need more formatting then use CEA-608 captions.
