Monty was a monster at the Ryder Cup, a lot of Euro players like Monty, Poulter, Westwood etc used the team atmosphere and crowd support to reach the elite level of golf that they couldn't quite find at majors to close the show when they were on their own.
Monty is not a great player. An excellent exponent of the game but fragile mentally. Never won a major, never won a world golf championship, never won the players and never won in America. If you asked Jack Nicklaus if Monty was a great player the first question he would ask is - how many majors has he won?
Absolutely brilliant 45 minutes, bravo to whoever came up with the idea. Please ensure that this a tradition that is continued with future Ryder Cup captains
one of my favorite parts of watching Golf Channel coverage of the Cup this year, is that they brought back in Paul McGinley as an analyst. he has great stories and interesting analysis. i just wish Brandel would not interrupt and talk over him so often.
What an absolute gem! Cannot get any better than this. I learned so much and got so much insight not only into Ryder Cup thinking but also into overall strategic thinking and management which are my areas of strength that I can only say "thanks for this Master Class." Well done to everyone, especially to Monty with his insights!
The 1st tee thing. Love it - When a sporting legend says something that absolutely stops their peers in their tracks - golden moment. The whole conversation is a great listen. Btw Monty is always top value giving everything emotionally - on a course or talking golf.
Monty was the last captain who placed a genuine emphasis on representing the European Tour in a Ryder Cup. He made it abundantly clear to our top players that anybody who didn't play enough over here, that didn't make some commitment, wouldn't be considered for a pick. Luke Donald listened, Paul Casey didn't.
Brilliant chat and a great insight. What makes the Ryder Cup so great is that golf is very much an individual sport so taking players out of what they're used to and making them a team is fascinating.
McGinley literally loves talking about this - living off it! He had a great team that year! They all go into detail - some time you win some time you don’t
It’s astounding that Sandy Lyle is never considered for any Ryder Cup position Captain,Vice Captain or even here in the legends team having won 2 majors.
Good point there. He is still a bit of an enigma is Sandy. He may have been asked and said No. I think he would have turned it down. Great player though.
The Captain's Dinner - What a terrific idea, and an awesome insight with great players. This dinner had three of my favourite players and then captains. (especially Thomas Bjorn)
The question about being captain for a second time after winning the first time out is a bit pointless…..it’s too risky to try again after winning once as captain regardless what McGinley says but he’s right about letting others waiting in the wings to have a go, personally if it was me as a winning captain I’d not want to either because if you lost and lost badly, that’s what you’d be remembered for!
The cling clanging of knives and forks whilst someone is trying to say something profound is the funniest thing I've watched in years. Vic and Bob would be proud of this surreal scene.
Amazing insight....... legends of the Ryder Cup reminiscing. Let's not forget that just because LIV lives, that should not stop Poulter/Stenson/Garcia/Stenson and others from helping Europe beat the USA... disgraceful how they have been treated. The current European captain and the European players should have some balls and stand up for these legends of the European team.....
I was skipping through noisy guitar music videos. And then YT served up this. If I have to do without noisy guitar music for 45 minutes - I'd prefer it to be for this.
McGinley is such a pain. He won the ryder cup with Europe because they had better players. I have never seen anyone blow their own achievements so out of proportion. He thinks he's some kind of management guru. Prat.
@@brmc6145 He had his turn as captain. He then should have handed the mantle to a successor, as is tradition. But no, he wanted to keep it for the next Ryder Cup. It took McIlroy's intervention to restore the norm. As I said, a greedy FB. We won't go into the numerous dubious rules that he flirted with. A smug, ungracious person. Always looking out for himself.
Don't get me wrong, I love Monty but he is absolutely insufferable. If he was in the cast of Goodfellas he'd be playing Morrie. I'm somehow expecting Robert Di Nero and Joe Pesci to appear from the shadows and whack him.
He was brilliant in the Ryder Cup but I agree with you that’s he’s pretty insufferable. Have witnessed up close at tournaments how bad his behaviour was and quite frankly he was an ignoramus at times. Also in these interviews he’s always patting himself on the back even though he’s ostensibly talking about something else. Hopefully he’s not commentating on Sky for this one
McGinley is hard to listen too. Going on like he rewrote the book on captaincy. Making everything sound complex! He had a good team...that's why he won. He would probably refuse to do it again to protect the record! He was lucky to be a captain as there was no one else available at the time.... The captain role can influence things but generally the best players win. Faldo was the exception in that he was a disaster who didnt prepare for the job and that impacted the players.
Whoever is responsible for this program deserves huge recognition… this 45mins had me wanting more… fabulous 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

We need one of these for every Ryder cup going forward. Absolute gold
Monty is one of the best to ever do it
Correct
Should have won at least a couple majors.
@@leemcqueen500yep he should have. Especially the US Open at Winged Foot where him and Phil thought the tournament was 71 holes!

I could listen to Monty and Paul all day long. Great storytellers.
Love Montys passion and enthusiasm, he looks to be brilliant company. Cant wait for the contest to start!
Unbelievable insight into the greatest team event in sport!! 3 amazing captains and hat off to Nick Dougherty for doing an incredible job hosting.

this is so good. i actually miss Monty from the sky coverage
This was fantastic viewing, 3 great RC captains there for sure
That was a seriously good watch! Many thanks to Nick and all the production crew.
Superb! We need more of Monty on sky sports golf
Monty, The Prince of European Tour golf.
Nick is a great host and all three Captains have lots of tell us and obviously enjoy doing it. A great 45minutes.
Absolutely brilliant chaps!! Thank you so much for this it’s magic!!

What an excellent set of insights, thank you Sky!
That was absolutely fantastic. What a great insight - legends
This was wonderful, could have had another hour!
Fantastic insights for a humble golf fan and the relaxed format is perfect to get the best out of three great captains. Wonderful memories.
Incredibly interesting and insightful. Love those guys. Love the Ryder Cup. And Seve forever!
There was a very interesting conversation. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
This was fantastic! Monty excelled in this.
Loved every minute of this. Really got my juices flowing for this Ryder Cup. 👍
Loved that. I had a lump in my throat. More please.
It's a pity this was such a short dinner, these lads had loads more fascinating stories!
Loving there fascinating insights, never would the US team do this.
Yeah they would...more typical hate
Superb piece of content! Great insights. Good work guys
Great group of guys. Smiles, laughs and good memories. 👍🏌️⛳🏆
What an amazing insight. Absolutely brilliant from all 4.
Thank you, we love to see more of this. ❤

Such passion ❤
Needs to be a Seniors Ryder Cup..
I could listen to Monty talk all day. His cadence is so entertaining
37 times table...magic!😀
By God if you weren't pumped for the Ryder cup before this you definitely will be after this come on Europe

I thoroughly enjoyed this absolutely Brill, wasn't nick also brilliant, what a good golfer but brilliant talker.
Awesome this! 👍🏻👍🏻
Brilliant
that was a good watch.
The Jimmy White of Golf !
Love this! ❤
3 days of USA USA USA and Ole Ole Ole. Get some music on like the LIV Tour. Its the future
TB makes Monty look slim 😂
Phew what decisions!

If Capt wins he should be given opportunity to do the double and win abroad/at home as well
Langer was the best captain in terms of results against World rankings form
I do my 37 times tables anymore when I go to Lidl
Excellent stuff cant believe there is no wine being drunk though.
No Sandy Lyle? - only one of the 80s greats who didn’t feature - I would have had him in over Gmac
the 37 times table...wow...
That ultimate European side, with that captain and vice, wouldn't get beaten.
Why did nobody mention Rory in the all time Team??
Because his record just isnt as good as the others. If you took out, say, GMac he would still be behind Stenson and Rose for the place.
Excellent, they should have then had a few whiskies. Ended to soon.
I was skipping through noisy guitar music videos. And then YT served up this. If I have to do without noisy guitar music for 45 minutes - I'd prefer it to be for this.
Dohety has massive ears. Goodness knows what they will be like when he's in his 80's😬
😂
no love for Rory even in the discussion at the end there?
Nearly all the Euro team plays in the US now....sad
No dinner invitation to Darren, Nick and Padraig ?
Haha nope winners only!!!
@@leemcqueen500 to be fair, they may have just declined.
Monty was just really lucky I’d say
At Celtic Manor
I agree, he nearly threw it away.
Don’t have any picks then their is no problem , just the first 12 …simples
No Rory???
Monty .... Monty ..... is on constant replay ... replay .... and oddly .... oddley enough .... so is Pete .... Pete Cowan. Os ...Osmosis🤔
He always eats a cheeseburger in the first!
Donald?
Colin obviously has a pie on the first tee .... and every other hole too.
lol
LADS WHAT A WONDERFUL 45 MINUTES BUT PLEASE DONT LEAVE OUT A SMALL MAN WITH THE BIGGEST HART MANUEL PAJRO THAT BEAT LENNY WATKINS
