I am so privileged to have been around to watch Peter at work, now health has ended my fifty years of golfing enjoyment. Thanks for being part of all these years Sir.
It was in 2015 as I remember and I was playing in an 11 hole competition in respect of the opening of the new clubhouse at Seaford Head GC in East Sussex. It was on the Saturday after the final round of the Masters ( so 6 days later ) Peter had been asked by someone involved in the club or the opening committee if he could make it to officially open the clubhouse and present prizes. Now I guess he got back from the US on the Monday or Tuesday and most at his age would want to put their feet up ? Peter though was there to do the ceremonies, present prizes, give a speech and did not rush off pronto after all was done. His lovely wife did the driving and both were absolutely charming and gracious and as it was a real pleasure to have them both there. How many would have gone out of their way to turn up after such a busy time as he must have had ?
Simply the greatest commentator in world Golf, growing up in the 80s watching the Masters in Spring & the Open in summer, Peter's voice and Alex Hay wwere synonymous with these events. Thank you for the upload fantastic watch. 👏👏👏👏
A one off, the greatest commentator on any sport and he had been there and done that (and suffered at times) so he had the right to say what he said about Jean van de Velde and other golfers. I wish I could see the full commentary from Peter when Miguel Ángel Jiménez was doing his warm up, it is priceless. The clips of Andy Prodger (Faldo's caddie) are spot on, but the 'Carol Vorderman' clip is Peter at his best. As many have said a true gentleman and very sadly missed.
I know it's said a lot when world renowned life superstars pass away , that he/she will never see the likes of again. I can honestly say , this is the case with this man . He is responsible for the love of golf on our screens , the many many now professional golfers out there , and the down to earth view of life in general on and off the course. Sadly missed and never ever forgotten.
peter had that endearing ability to bring us into his life, and make everyone a part of it, through his commentary you felt included and somehow involved as a close friend, he touched so many hearts and minds, god bless him.
I remember watching 87 masters and mize chips in on 11 to beat Greg and win..."and they say the meek shall inherit the earth"...just timeless commentary....now you watch the CBS version when that happens and the commentary is just screams....now that's the difference...just a class act at the correct times!
One of the best. if not THE best Golf and sports commentators of all time. Classic humour which is so badly needed these days. So happy to have watched this ..just remove the Gary Linneker parts & its perfect.
I remember him at Scottish open at Loch lomond, camera scanning surrounding hills as clouds roll over them. He says in a kind of Scottish slang " aye, up where the monsters live". Brilliant.
17:26 Paul McGinley is absolutely right, Jean Van de Velde did play some cracking stuff at Carnoustie; many forget just how well he putted, to my mind, if he'd had someone like Fanny Sunesson or Dave Musgrave on the bag that day, he may have won at a canter. That Caddie was more concerned with how he looked IMHO.
Just found this on your channel Neil whilst googling Peter Allis. My favourite sports commentator along with Richie Benaud. So much more than a commentator, and even better imo that he often got under the skin of the woke.
For me; it's an absolute crime that this man wasn't knighted, IMHO, he should have been given a peerage. People seem to forget that he was a pretty good player in his day; aren't he and his father the only Father and son to have competed in the Ryder Cup?
Priceless piece. The Open will never be the same.
I miss Peter Allis still very much 👍

brilliant!!! RIP mister.
Peter was just brilliant, loved by so many, and so badly missed.
The greatest commentator of any sport, the greatest of all time
Pure class, Peter and Bill McLaren the best 2 sports commentators......ever.
From the States - Thank you so much for posting.😊

I completely agree; his partnership with the late great Alex hay was a joy to behold.

'Here he comes, the Queen Mother of golf', loved it since I heard it

The most wonderful golf comentator ever !
I'm still chuckling about the queen mother of golf :D
It's a testament to the man that I would always watch golf if he was on. I have never played golf! Sadly missed.
Quite simply the greatest sports commentator of all time r i p Peter
Super, thanks for taking the time to post.
Met him in the mid 80’s, asked him for an autograph and he seemed bewildered that I should’ve wanted it!
Gentleman
peter had that endearing ability to bring us into his life,
and make everyone a part of it, through his commentary
you felt included and somehow involved as a close friend,
he touched so many hearts and minds, god bless him.
Thank you Neil, that was beautiful.
Anybody who knows and understands the game will miss him and his commentary…
John Cleese wrote at the death of Peter, I always felt I could cope with the end of the world, as long as Peter was commentating on it .
wonderful.... absolutely wonderful. thank you
The car he leaves at the end has a number plate "put 3".....classic!
Ah to have been there that day enjoying, listening, to Peter reminisce about a life well lived.
A voice of ABC golf coverage in the states. Always great commentary. Went from Longhurst to Alliss as the most venerable of voices.
A true gentleman when I met him at his talk in. Sadly missed ❤️✌️
I met Mr Alliss, love him and miss his velvet voice.
Great stuff an Icon in golf ⛳️

I did try and put some of the BBC coverage of the Masters I have for this reason, sadly it was blocked.
Spot on.
The Open and Golf is just not the same without him, sadly missed!
thank you

Tears a plenty for the quips and stories and a few for the passing of a giant.
I do miss him terribly, the voice of golf ⛳️ 😢
A great man of golf with no equal behind the mic. Good player also don’t forget that. Sadly missed.

He was the greatest, I really miss his commentary and double act with Ken Brown.
Thank you Roone Arledge for giving the American Golf Audience Peter Alliss and Jim McKay on the same broadcasts!🏆⛳
Just found this on your channel Neil whilst googling Peter Allis. My favourite sports commentator along with Richie Benaud. So much more than a commentator, and even better imo that he often got under the skin of the woke.
Classic gentleman
I got aroused 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Classic 😉 👍
I agree with Chris Evans, as I'd much rather hear Peter Alliss talk than Chris Evans.
Peter is golf.
I'd like to have been a fly on the wall when he got told off for say something like AROUSED. How could you tell the Champ off!??!! No way!
For me; it's an absolute crime that this man wasn't knighted, IMHO, he should have been given a peerage. People seem to forget that he was a pretty good player in his day; aren't he and his father the only Father and son to have competed in the Ryder Cup?
How can you criticise Peter for what jean van de velde done , he was a total idiot and his caddy wasn't much better, Peter told it perfectly
Peter Allis and Herny Longhurst the best
Onward
That wretched Lineker had to appear didn’t he. And Redknapp!
GLA PWK
What a fantastic video, absolutely outstanding 👍
