100kWh battery or even 70kWk costs I think half of that price, even more :) IMO PHEVs are beter for price and environment as you can build 10 PHEVs with this 100kWh and let them drive the daily 40km (as most people drive) on electric, rather than give one person 400km range that is used only once a week or even less an 9 other cars are ICE. I think it's interesting you were pointing the mic to Nomi when it was 'her' turn to talk while actually the sound comes from the speakers. Nio got this Nomi thing right, they just need a few tweeks

NIO is not just selling cars, but also lifestyle ! Kris Tomasson, the Vice President of Design, is the “soul and mind” behind NIO’s design. From the ES8 to the ET7, he views design from the users’ perspective. The ET7 is the perfect vehicle he envisioned to create for our users. Kris says, “At NIO, we are “Driven by Design.” It is one of the founding pillars of our company.
Honestly it’s better than expected. I like that they’re trying new things (battery swap, subscription system etc.) but the price is way too high. You won’t see this car too much in Europe. I’d rather get the Audi Q4 or BMW X3 for the guaranteed services available already.
In Mandarin, Nomi work great. I think for other languages, needs more development & cultural adaptation because language depends a lot on context & localization.
I recently got to try a Nio ES7 in China. I found out that there is a way to disable the "pilot is on" voice whenever you engage in autopilot. The way is to turn off "Nomi Pilot" in the automated driving setting. Hope this helps!
Nomi constantly giving feedback of what's been activated reminds me of the MG Maestro with digital voice synthesiser my Dad had when I was little. Hand brake on, hand brake off, headlights on, please fasten seatbelt, low fuel, low oil and so and so forth
Wow, finally a car maker that looks after the front passenger - why haven't the European brands ever thought of this? I like the restrained, clean styling too. Yes, Thomas, the Nio logo does remind me of the Citroen logo also. I like it!
@@krane15 You should see the other premium Chinese EV startup, Li Auto. Their new L7 only has 2 rows, so they also gave it power recline rear seat, but you can also move the front seat forward and deploy a footrest, along with a 30 inch screen that folds down from the ceiling. That's a better setup than on the new BMW 7 series, and the L7 starts at under 50k USD in China. Li Auto only makes SUVs, yet they are outselling Nio in the Chinese market because of how luxurious their cars are.
The Chinese are gonna deliver some serious competition. I still think this one is a little too expensive at 100K with the big battery. You really have to lease the pack and you can't be sure whether the price will stay low for the lease. Also kinda attractive in the long-term though that you can just switch battery if it loses capacity and take advantage of new battery technology. The Xpeng G9 selling for 77K with full options in the Netherlands vs audi at 105K for equivalent options (without a third screen), Mercedes 120k and BMW 136K (without third screen) seems great on paper. This seems the real German luxury SUV killer to me. I hope you review it too, though I don't think it's available in Germany.
Why not? The Xpeng G9 AWD seems to beat this neo on some luxury and definitely on price. Also competes with German luxury evs while being 20-30k euros cheaper.
@@Jajalaatmaar there’s a reason why Xpeng don’t advertise themselves as Luxury…. Obviously it’s going to beat it on the pricing considering it’s not a luxury brand.
@@Jajalaatmaar you have less than half of the hardware plus none of the assistance you have access with nio, xpeng and li are classic auto model (you buy a car, enjoy it by yourself); nio is more like "buy a car and you became part of the family" you get access to 24h assistance, perks and support in every part of your experience
Thomas, your wink and beaming smile at 6:45 made me lough out loud. 🤣 Great review as always, though personally I would not be keen to go for a Chinese brand, even if they are getting much better.
Excellent review, Thank you!!! I am personally waiting for your review on the ET5, on the ES6, and also a short video, on the upgraded ET7. The ET5 should arrive very soon in Germany.
Audi suing Nio (for this stupid naming thing, which doesn't make sense) just shows how afraid they are of the Chinese brands entering the market. Love or hate them, you have to accept that their products and tech are far ahead of established automakers. And what they offer for the price is very competitive. In my humble opinion, there are literally 3 categories of EVs as of now: Tesla, the Chinese brands, and the rest.
This a wonderful review and not just for the comedy value of the rematch with Nomi. What I really appreciate is that NIO have rethought their car from first principles. Elsewhere I made a crack about electric being like the move from horse and carriage to horseless carriages. With this NIO there is no hint of horse or carriage. Inevitably not everything NIO have rethought is perfect - think Nomi - but there is so much that is good, and it is interesting that Thomas reports in part that NIO have outdone Tesla. The Japanese - say Nissan and Mazda - have attacked the premium sector with less is more without a €20-30k price premium. NIO are attacking Audi/BMW/Mercedes head on without trading on price at all, or at least not very much. From what I have seen in this review NIO really can do premium on a par with the German big three. The financing options are especially interesting with the battery swap option getting round most of the charging anxiety problems in many markets. A lot more wannabe premium car owners will be able to afford €1-1.5k a month than €100k upfront. Even if you are not wannabe, a no hassle monthly rental is attractive regardless of the detailed financial calculations. Would I buy German premium or NIO. Neither as it happens. What I long for is an Alfa Romeo back on song and will forgive a lot of imperfections to get one. Meanwhile I like Mazda.
For these driver assistance systems like nomi I would much more prefer a physical wake up button on the steering wheel instead of the computer trying to interpret all speech in the cabin for the wake up phrase. I want my car to only speak when actually spoken to.
@@karlitono How much does electricity cost in Norway? If you get 4 swaps per free, say on the 100 kWh battery pack, and you drive it from 90% to 10% each time, that is 320 kWh of energy from the 4 free swaps a month, which lets you travel around 1000 km. If it costs 0.2 eur for each kWh to charge at home, that means you would be getting 64 eur of "free" electricity from the swaps, which means the actual lease price is more like 140 eur a month, which is damn reasonable for such a big battery pack.
@Električno Auto that means if you go for the 75 kWh battery, you are getting around 240 kWh of free charging each month, or 60 euros worth. A net cost of 80 euro to lease that battery is a great deal. Plus doing the 4 swaps a month takes less than 30 minutes in TOTAL. And if you have a road trip coming up, just bump your lease up to the 100 kWh pack for that month only, but use the cheap 75 kwH pack for normal around town driving.
NIO have taken some lessons from Tesla on the infotainmentsystem. This i a warning shot for German premium cars. I really like the all inclusive price Policy.
Great review Thomas. Really good that you take your time over all the aspects. I always feel like I know the good and bad of a car with your reviews. Looks a lovely car and great they have de-tuned NOMI. Very expensive though.
You say the back don't have so nice comfort as others wich cars have nice comfort. I did try the bmw i7 the middle seat in the back is hard like a rock.
Regarding Nomi, by observing your videos, I found the European Nomi is massively behind the Chinese version. The c Chinese version sounds very soft, pleasing, and human like while the English version sounds like from windows XP. I hope Nio's software team can accelerate their development and make European Nomi really good.
Just make Nomi's warnings about car functions being enabled/disabled an option on the infotainment, Nio. That way, everyone's happy. Edit: And the frequency of said warnings.
BYD is about to unveil their new Seagull EV very soon, and it should reach customer hands before the summer. Slightly larger than a 500e, and has 4 doors, and Chinese consumers will be able to get one starting at under $9000 USD.
Hi Thomas. I wonder you if you would have 4 options lotus, Mercedes Eqs Suv, Audi q8 etron and this Nio. Who has better quality and which of the cars have the better trunk.
Another interesting aspect or difference in markets in terms of NVH ..Asian markets will accept high frequency noises and shun low frequencies, the European and US markets are opposite, we'd rather have a low frequency noise as higher frequencies are more annoying to us.
That Naomi thing is creepy. I'd have to rip that out (cut the wires) as soon as I got the car. In any event, this is the first EV that has impressed me. The ingenuity of being able to do the battery swap is something I've been saying all EV should have from day one. Not only that, they rather than playing follow the "Tesla" leader, they still have offer a traditional fully opening panoramic sun roof. That's something you don't see much of in the entire car industry. One other thing you don't see is that very ingenious lounge seat for the front passenger. That alone makes this one of the only EV I'd even consider. This EV is full of features that are truly revolutionary. Since no car is perfect, it does get point off for the tacked-on iPad infotainment and instrument cluster. Too bad its not available in North America.
Frankly, this thing looks amazing. Priced too high, but maybe that is the market Nio is targeting. I would be afraid if I were a product manager at Stelantis and GM. Ford is relying on thier cult of trucks & Tesla just on their cult, for now. In 10 years, it will be very interesting to see how the BEV market shakes out.
Nio is way out of Stellantis and GM's league, since it plays with the "BBA" luxury brand (Benz, BMW, Audi). Instead Stellantis and GM are shitting bricks because of BYD, which has a lock on low cost high value EVs right now.
Are you talking about an E-tron? With similar options the audi still seems more expensive. Another competitor to check is the Xpeng G9. Delivers in Q4. Cheaper than both Audi and Nio while still very luxurious. 78K euros kitted out with a 7 year warranty.
Good review. Had test drive yesterday. Passenger leg room is an issue for us due to disability of passenger. This car beats them all. Quality experience matches all big German names. More rustique atmosphere than most of those. What I do not understand is why DC max charging is 125 for 100kWh and 140 for 75kWh battery. One would expect the bigger battery to have more room for faster peak charging? At 125kW this car is not up to its league in this aspect. On very long trips with several stops this may be annoying. Sunroof scores points, and also that a sunshade can close the glass roof. Not many cars have this. Can anyone tell me if this care really keeps the charging speed for a while, and actually also reaches the top speeds that NIO says it can do?
Charging is average speed but doesn’t this get 360 miles of range in Europe? Even at that speed of charging you still get more charge volume comparing with model y at 330 miles. Also I saw some tests where nio gets 87% of claimed range and model y gets 85%. Meaning nio real world range at 360 miles will be 313 miles and Tesla at 330 will get 280 miles real world range
The most important and interesting part of the video which if it’s True what they say about Solid State will be a game changer in EV and will force the other makers to speed up in development etc. when you was going on about the pricing etc you Seem to forget what they offering in terms recharging and long term batteries as tech improves they be able change to new batteries tech and if they offering swop to solid state then is a no brainier as you won’t have worry about both degradation of batteries but what happens to them as They will take care of all that. The Only problem is the infer-structure of there Own recharging points not enough of them .
@@Analytical_Visionary If it is an option, this is really good. I already have my wife in the car to navigate me and comment my driving. I would not stand one more Nomi guy
It is like a car version of windows cortana - something everyone turns off the second they get windows installed. It being an option is good but given how annoying it is they should pay you to take it (like the advert supported version of a Amazon Fire tablet). I bet once these cars are old enough to reach the second hand market there will hundreds of TH-cam guides to deactivate Nomi.
Never buy a VW you will have oil consumtion and the Check Engine light will be constantly on. And they are way to slow for an ev and have to small range.
@@Steve-gc5nt That is propaganda just like Iraq WMD`s which is why despite a country where almost everyone of its 1.4 billion people are walking around with a camera and internet connection in their pocket you have no evidence only Adrian Zenz and US separatist funded groups shoddy fabrications.
@@Steve-gc5nt Did China did these atrocities to Muslim women and kids with impunity? The Iraq Body Count project, which tracks civilian deaths in Iraq, estimates that between 182,000 and 204,000 civilians, including women and children, have been killed as a direct result of violence since the US-led invasion in 2003. Other estimates put the number of civilian deaths even higher, with some sources suggesting that the total number of deaths could be as high as one million. In Afghanistan, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has been documenting civilian casualties since 2009. According to their data, over 38,000 Afghan civilians have been killed as a result of the conflict since 2009. While the number of women and children specifically is not provided in all reports, it is known that they have been among the victims of the conflict.
@@Steve-gc5nt According to estimates, the Uighur population in China has increased significantly since the 1950s. In 1953, the Uighur population in Xinjiang, the region of China where most Uighurs live, was approximately 3.2 million. Today, the Uighur population in Xinjiang is estimated to be around 12 million. it is believed that the population of Native Americans in the Americas before European contact ranged from approximately 50 million to 100 million people, spread across many different cultures, languages, and regions. In contrast, according to the most recent estimates, the population of Native Americans in the United States today is approximately 6.8 million, representing about 2% of the total U.S. population. Native American populations in other parts of the Americas, such as Canada, Mexico, and Central and South America, also vary in size. It is generally believed that India's population was relatively large and diverse in the 15th century, with a wide range of different ethnic and linguistic groups living in different regions of the country. Some estimates suggest that the population of India in the 15th century may have been around 100 million people, although this number is difficult to verify. So in 15th century, Native Americans were around 50 to 100 million population, and now they reduced to 6.8 million. But India had 100 million population and now there are 1.4 billion population. So tell me what cruelties you Europeans did to Native Americans to have that far less population than India.
The is no mention of the NIO houses or NIO life which you also get with the price and subscription. I wonder how that would factor in once built up in Europe.

So good review, with a very nice personal touch love it.

This is a very beautiful car and the specs are amazing too. Man these cars are AMAZING!
Great video, keep bringing the NIO videos!

Honestly it’s better than expected. I like that they’re trying new things (battery swap, subscription system etc.) but the price is way too high. You won’t see this car too much in Europe. I’d rather get the Audi Q4 or BMW X3 for the guaranteed services available already.
@user-qr8gs8jf1t in China there are many premium EV's to compete with Tesla, the ''West'' is not that fortunate.

In NORWAY there are a lot of NIOS
In Mandarin, Nomi work great. I think for other languages, needs more development & cultural adaptation because language depends a lot on context & localization.
Even the sound effect is more human-like in Mandarin version.
Very pricey but I might just pick this over the German brand.
I wouldn't suggest it as a good idea.

I recently got to try a Nio ES7 in China. I found out that there is a way to disable the "pilot is on" voice whenever you engage in autopilot. The way is to turn off "Nomi Pilot" in the automated driving setting. Hope this helps!
Cheers! But afaik that setting is not saved and you have to deactivate it every time again ?
@@autogefuehl I think when you turn off “Nio pilot” it stays that way (at least in China) cheers!
the price of ES7 (we call here in China)is less than 75000 Eur. for the top equipment model with 100kWh (buy both car and battery)
honestly NIO cars are really nice looking! looks very promising!
Can you make comparison between Nio EL7 and other German SUVs, please?
Nomi constantly giving feedback of what's been activated reminds me of the MG Maestro with digital voice synthesiser my Dad had when I was little. Hand brake on, hand brake off, headlights on, please fasten seatbelt, low fuel, low oil and so and so forth
Love this car. Seems much better than the germans
Wow, finally a car maker that looks after the front passenger - why haven't the European brands ever thought of this? I like the restrained, clean styling too. Yes, Thomas, the Nio logo does remind me of the Citroen logo also. I like it!
Revolutionary for the front passenger, but did you notice the power recline rear seat too? That's something you'd see only on the luxury sedans.
@@tren133 don’t get Chinese cars isn’t safe
Xpeng is not a luxury brand…
@@ThanhVo-zr6iy Kind of a weird argument if they provide similar luxury to luxury brands, just cheaper.

Tesla can't use letters E and S and A in their name as it is really close to Mercedes model names! Sue Tesla! :D

Ah yes, another episode of Thomas VS Nomi 😂
😂
episide 3 for ET5 please
Thanks for the feedback!
Nice car that Lexus in that Thomas Blue colour!
Great review as always. Keep up the good work.
cheers !
Maybe will go for ES6 gen 2 end of 2023, eager to see how much cheaper will it be in Norway than EL7.
For these driver assistance systems like nomi I would much more prefer a physical wake up button on the steering wheel instead of the computer trying to interpret all speech in the cabin for the wake up phrase. I want my car to only speak when actually spoken to.
Did i hear you correctly? Battery rental is 170E and 290E per month depending on the size? Wow, that is MUCH higher than I expected.
You also get 2 free swaps or something per month which is like 800km
In Norway it's 140 and 200 eur and you had 4 swaps included before new year.
@@tren133 historically cost next to nothing. I pay now cca 0.25 eurocent per kW via my building manager for home charging.
I like the talkative NOMI with the facial reactions. $NIO
NIO have taken some lessons from Tesla on the infotainmentsystem.
This i a warning shot for German premium cars.
I really like the all inclusive price Policy.
You can give Nomi a different name other than NOMI...Would be FUN to see that!
Great review Thomas. Really good that you take your time over all the aspects. I always feel like I know the good and bad of a car with your reviews. Looks a lovely car and great they have de-tuned NOMI. Very expensive though.

Regarding Nomi, by observing your videos, I found the European Nomi is massively behind the Chinese version. The c Chinese version sounds very soft, pleasing, and human like while the English version sounds like from windows XP. I hope Nio's software team can accelerate their development and make European Nomi really good.
Interesting
@@autogefuehl gotta thank you for the good work. Very detailed and I enjoyed your style of humor.

Thomas Ian hoping that Nio and the other car manufacturers will be making small EVs such as the Fiat 500e which I drive at the moment
Nios smaller sub brand will be unveiled this year.
BYD is about to unveil their new Seagull EV very soon, and it should reach customer hands before the summer. Slightly larger than a 500e, and has 4 doors, and Chinese consumers will be able to get one starting at under $9000 USD.

Another interesting aspect or difference in markets in terms of NVH ..Asian markets will accept high frequency noises and shun low frequencies, the European and US markets are opposite, we'd rather have a low frequency noise as higher frequencies are more annoying to us.
Very interesting!
Man! I love your videos!!!
Highly appreciated!!
Its probably best to simply not order the extra option if you would rip it out.
@@ensteffo Of course, if its an option and not included with the car. A mechanical head talking to me. No thanks.

Full subscription seem like a good deal given that depreciation for new cars are quite substantial
AC info: You have the fan control on manual and the fan on the lowest setting. Putting it on auto or on more power will heat up the car quicker.

Nomi is an interesting idea. I would agree it needs tuning, but it's nice that someone tries something new.
But i bet neo does nothing to fix it.
such a beautiful car
Been waiting for this Nio!
Lately, the Chinese car design is definitely on top of others.
Nio's design center is in Munich
Thomas vs Nomi - Round 2 😄

150kWh SEMI SOLID STATE battery Thomas :) @3:50 otherwise perfect review, thank you! :)
Great video. Well done!...Hilarious!

nice piece. Which tesla model are you refering to? Y or X? Thank you.
The y has the bad ride quality. X has air suspension I believe.
Just a quick check on the site (Netherlands) it looks like this thing is going to cost more then an audi Q8... That is kind of nuts no ?
Build quality is much better in the Nio, and also if you spec both cars the same the Nio is way cheaper.
Nuts if you're thinking in terms of brands, not quality and specs.
@@CumBrianFries you also have to think about long term reliability and resell value.
Are you talking about an E-tron? With similar options the audi still seems more expensive.
Another competitor to check is the Xpeng G9. Delivers in Q4. Cheaper than both Audi and Nio while still very luxurious. 78K euros kitted out with a 7 year warranty.
Yeah sadly the price is way higher than in China, because all of the fees in EU...
I'm wondering if there is spotify in Europe Nios?
I would rip that Nomi thing off and throw it out the window. But the car is a very well designed car.
good idea
Nomi is a optional purchased add-on.
@@Analytical_Visionary If it is an option, this is really good. I already have my wife in the car to navigate me and comment my driving. I would not stand one more Nomi guy

It being an option is good but given how annoying it is they should pay you to take it (like the advert supported version of a Amazon Fire tablet).

it is believed that the population of Native Americans in the Americas before European contact ranged from approximately 50 million to 100 million people, spread across many different cultures, languages, and regions.
