Most talkative Lorikeet in Australia

  • This was a video taken on the 17th of September 2011, around 4 months before Apple passed away 8th of January 2012. He was sold to us when he was 10 weeks and we consider him as the lucky one because he climbed on my shoulder and pooped on my brand new shirt. We picked him out of the twenty in the pet shop.
It took him a year to say his name and later on I was given 4 injured lorikeets from my local vet to take care of and he developed a friendly relationship with them until they were fully recovered and I had to release them back into the wild. You taught them how to talk.
Nine years of memories that I will treasure forever.

We had a rainbow lorikeet called Larry for 7 years, from a baby. He would perform, used to love being flipped over on the clothes line. He would go nuts if you asked him if he wanted some ice cream. I miss that little character so terribly.

I too am sorry for your loss. My sister bought a rainbow some years ago, an adult. Man did that bird have a large vocabulary. I took care of him for 2 weeks when sis went to Darwin. I was amazed by how many words he spoke. Almost each day he spoke a new word, many of which my sister didn't know he could speak. My current Musk Lorikeet [that I saved after a car hit him on the street at the front of our home], also has a large vocabulary. He's very clever and does not just mimic words, but chooses his words carefully to express what he sees or wants etc. Thanks for sharing your clip, Connie Francis

Sorry for your loss. I lost my 12 1/2yr old Timneh, she had a tumor. Last Nov, almost a year ago. I raised her since 7wks of age. I just got a Rainbow who is 9wks old and I came across your video, I wanted to see the talking ability of the Rainbow. Losing a beloved bird is a heart breaking experience. I hope that you will some day again open your heart to another feathered friend. I look forward to finding an appropriate name for my new baby. Thanks for sharing your video.

I tried to hold a wild bird I had caught once...it's feathers were the same colour as this...should have let it be free. It was far too beautiful to be caged. Eventually it flew away, and I'm happy it did. I imagine it's free and happy and doing all sorts of amazing shiz now. I miss it though...I hope it's having the best life.

not to be competitive, but, APPLE is cute, definitely and a personality.
but i would not call this the most talkative bird in australia
    i also have a lorikeet
APPLE basically has 4 or 5 responses that he keeps repeating
my bird, literally, will not the shut the fuck up.
    get this.
    he mimicks everything.
i go to the toilet and the toilet door has a creak in it,
he mimicks the sound when the door opens and when it closes
    2 different sounds
i then go to the laundry, turn on the washing machine.
when i press the buttons, he PERFECTLY mimicks the beeps
same for the dryer, which is a different beep
sometimes when im in a hurry, i go to dry my clothes
i press the button to start the dryer, but not hard enough
my lorri, see's me do this, and assumes the noise
he makes the noise of the dryer starting
and i assume that it started
i come home later on, my clothes are still wet.. no kidding
    me and the wife talk
    he mimicks it.
the mobile rings, he gets involved in conversation
    it's funny as hell,
he has like 30 different things he can say
and he repeats them over and over
    but, he never shuts up
well. sometimes he does. but it's rare
it's mostly chatter, with some quiet times as opposed to the opposite
    the point being,
    the title is misleading
even by comparison, my bird is more talkative than yours.
i would not consider my bird the MOST TALKATIVE in australia
that's a bit of stretch don't you think

Martin Kuliza i have a lory and all he does is go up and down while on side of thr cage i dont know why, i just got him 1 week ago and he scared of me. He doesnt mimicking sound i wonder how to make him mimicking sound? My bf once heart him said "hello" tho

    • @martinkuliza
      @martinkuliza 7 ปีที่แล้ว

natdomo hi mate, that's cute, you got him only 1 week ago.
you need to understand something before i go on
since i posted last on this forum, (and i was talking about my lori Rocky
i have got another Lor (Milo) he's a cheeky little bastard hehe
hand raised, literally out of the egg
i got him 2 weeks outside of the egg
he thinks i'm his mum, which is fucking funny as hell LMFAO
      anyway
with the going up and down thing
do you mean his head goes up and down, because that's normal
or does he scream and his head goes up and down because that's not always a bad thing
my milo screams when i'm about to feed him and rocky to let rocky know food is coming
also if i don't want to play with him for 5 mins because i'm busy he does it as a show of protest
so don't worry too much about it
if he is walking up and down the cage
don't worry, they are just little acrobats that's all normal
as for how to teach hiim sounds
well, just watch them and pay attention to when they pay attention
and make the sound at that time
they will pick up on everything, you'll see

you should release it if you caught it... how you would you like it if i caught you are put you in a cage? this bird (in the video) is hand reared. It is very different. You will NEVER be able to even touch the one you caught properly... It is a wild bird. END OF STORY - release it
