Galahs vs lorikeets

  • Two bossy Galahs, also known as Rose Breasted Cockatoos visit my Sydney garden. They start off eating some beautiful red Christmas Bush with a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo for company then move to the lorikeets seed bowl, much to the lori's displeasure. Note that one has black eyes and one has orange eyes, not sure why that is. Galahs are very common right around Australia. The noise you may be able to hear in the background is many thousands of male cicadas trying to attract a girlfriend!

So the rainbow lorikeets have met their match but they don't totally retreat, they keep coming back. I love the way they end up sharing the plate with the galahs. Two kinds of parrots that each are used to getting their own way. A great watch, thank you for posting this.

Thanks for your comment. Of course it all depends on which loris are visiting me. There is one dominant, bossy pair who show no fear at all and will even shoo the much bigger sulphur crested cockatoos away.

A galah is a cookatoo not a parrot!!!

@@davidofficial5158 A cockatoo is a species of parrot, as are lorikeets.

So beautiful and colourful. What kinds of seeds do you feed them? Love the music too 😉

    • @Beanick

I feed them a few sunflower seeds along with some apple. Please note sunflower seeds are not suitable for caged birds however. Thanks for your comment on the music, I borrowed it from Ren and Stimpy!
