- June 27th, 2015 - We found this little guy (what we think is a Sea Lion Pup) floating with a large mat of commercial fishing net around its neck. It would try to swim and then had to roll to its back to breath. It wasn't very happy when we first got to it, but after getting it free, it was happy to hang around on the bow of the boat for a bit. After forcing it back into the water, it did a couple barrel rolls, stopped for a look back at us and swam away. It was happy and so were we.

The most reluctant inept rescue I've ever seen. Pathetic in so many ways.

So happy that you guys rescued this little seal from a certain early death...but very upset to see the guy prod the seal overboard shortly afterwards. The seal needed more time to recover.

It was 4 and 1 with a camera
Saves it's life then pokes it with a hook to force it back in the water when it was probably starving and exhausted. Smart cookies.
I feel this could have been done a little faster and yes he would need some recovery time as you do not know how long he has been struggling.
Or they should have edited the video better to less of the beginnings and more of the seal resting and enjoying their company for however long it required. And especially no forced 'repatriation'! LOL.

Should have revitalized the pup with some food and rest. Pushing him into the sea just after rescue was cruel.

Being fishermen they didn't want him to take their fish!
they could have spared a couple of fish for that pup.
They took a few minutes to get him out of water tugging on him and tightening rope then they spent five minutes traumatizing the poor pup by throwing that cloth over his face with five big guys standing around him. THEN, these five grown men being scared by this obviously vicious pup, they ignorantly push him back into the water when the pup clearly wanted to be left alone a few minutes and take a break. Should of and could have been done in 30 seconds. I applaud your efforts but it could have been much easier experience for the animal.

These are good Canadians --- aren't they all? --- but terrible videographers. Skip ALL THE WAY to time-mark 06:30 --- when finally they get the little pup under control --- and watch through 07:45 when all the netting is cut away. Nonetheless, NOT BAD AT ALL for non-professional pup-rescuers. I give them high marks.

I have never seen 3 to 4 grown men be so stupid you got it on board, it took you forever to take the dang thing off of it not one kind word to it make feel somewhat safe not even a little fish because you'd rather take it all home instead of giving it a little something you don't know how long it had been stuck and hungry think guys think. It didn't jump off right away because there might have been something out there wantimg to eat it

How many men does it take to save a little seal oh my stars they're screwing around and wanting to get the video and afraid of getting bit and they've got all this equipment and they're screwing around just drives me nuts I see videos like this all the time of people just brainless so I feel your pain but thank God they were there and they finally save the poor little thing

wolf310ii Interesting how some men liken being female with insults. “Five little girls” to describe people who work with these animals and are right to understand the pup they are trying to help has sharp teeth the size of a full grown 50 lb dog. Working with animals, these folks know that wild, scared animals in pain and exhausted can pack quite a punch. Bites to hands are most common in that situation and hands are a dangerous place to be bitten. Talk to a dog rescuer about multiple surgeries, hospital stays for iv antibiotics and amputation of parts of hands just from a dog bite.
I hope if you have children you will think about this and make some changes because the attitude you’ve demonstrated is damaging to children who look up to you.
That are not people who work with animals, thats just 5 guys fishing on the lake, found a sea lion.
Profesional animal rescuer would be better equiped and would not act like a pussy, and they would a exhausted animal not poke with a stick back into water, they would look for injuries or would take the the Sea Lion to the animal station

@@rickystrickland844 That's why the baby was gonna bite someone's finger. It's not powerful enough to do some damage but some people (me as well) don't like being bitten by animals. First of all, they carry diseases. If it bites you it may cause you big problems. And second, I just don't like being bitten even if an animal is playing with me - like cats or dogs. I don't like them drool all over me or my hand. Many people are OK with their dogs doing that but not me. I like dogs, but that's just disgusting.
Was trying to figure out why they took 2:15 mins of video, time where he tried to stop his head from bashing into the side of their boat... and clearly a lot of time off camera, before pulling him out of the water in 15 secs.

To be fair, you really don't ever want to be bitten by a wild animal. Not because the sea lion itself can hurt you, but because it might carry harmful bacteria or diseases.

Good job boys ! If you ever run into that situation again, give the fat guy in black the camera and tell him to go stand at the other end of the boat. Total failure trying to hood the seal, then first thing he does is grab a big hooked gaff like the seal is gonna leap on him and tear his throat out. I'd also probably cut the last bit of the clip where he pokes at it a couple of times with the gaff before finally pushing the exhausted little guy off the boat...

Ignorance is bliss... It's common tactic to cover wild animal's sight so they are not so stressed and stay calm. It also block their vision so they won't see where to bite. Touching against their will is last thing they like. He was tired so struggling was not as bad, and how did you deduce he wanted to be touched? Did all that trashing give it away? Even tamed wild animals are likely to bite or scratch you if you touch or approach them when they don't want you to. Clips that you see about these wild animals letting people touch them, work because it's the animals being ones to approach us.
Maybe he was bit nervous with the stick, but otherwise they did it right and did a great thing.

it was a home made boat gaff ... the guys were not prepared to rescue a sea lion caught in netting - they used whatever they had available ... the gaff was just to keep the sea lion at bay ... it's still a wild animal and could have attacked them ... then we'd see the video in the category "rescuing a wild animal and getting bit for it ..."
These guys have never been this close to a sea lion pub in their lives. Doesn’t anybody have a blanket or large jacket ? Just scoop little guy up and hold him in your lap you’ll be amazed how they calm down with frim contact.

Thanks guys, inspite of your own fears you tried to help and were successful, I guess that is your first time saving a sea lion, and of course you did not know the risks involved, scared animals can attack, but you tested first and did the job. Please continue to help the animals and get better at it. We have a lot of people who hurt them, but I thank God that you made the effort to care for and save them. In the comments there are a lot of persons who were harsh, take the messages, leave the negativity and keep being kind. Blessings

I'm a woman and I take offence to that comment. If I were on board it wouldnt been nearly as difficult because I have brain, it wouldn't have taken as ling because I'm not a coward & it wouldnt have ended with an act of animal cruelty because I wouldve shown it some love & compassion...let it rest & give it some fish to eat if I had some on board.

omg just grab from behind and start he will know your helping and you should have took it to the vet or to a rescue they probably needed to do blood work and give it antibiotics and it's better to call rescue especially if you don't know what you're doing
