I love how these giant creatures, like whales, just know that they are being helped. Most land animals initially, if not all the way through the rescue, put up a fight and seem to run away as soon as they are freed. These giant mantas, as well as whales stay very still and patiently wait to be freed, then come back around to say thanks. In the case of whales, many will jump out of the water in spectacular displays of joy! Awesome video! Thank you for rescuing and sharing!

I know this is an old comment, but I think it mostly has to do with the fact that mutualism between larger organisms is very common underwater. Plenty of fish/sharks/turtles/etc will go to the reef in order to be cleaned of parasites by fish and certain kinds of shrimp. Additionally, predators seem to be far more picky underwater, and as a result many prey species only adapt/learn to fear certain types of creatures (humans not included). Some combination of these circumstances make large animals underwater very relaxed/curious around unfamiliar creatures as opposed to scared or aggressive.

Well done fella! I'm a retired diver - through injury but when I went diving I always took a "Grot" bag with me! Much of my diving was in temperate waters and much were pristine, untouched by humans yet many dives I did were littered with plastics and abandoned fishing nets! My Grot bag got plenty of use collecting as much foreign debris as possible and the same was for those I dived with! We'd then dispose of the stuff in an appropriate manner! So, I ask Divers across the globe, when you go for a dive take a GROT bag with you and any plastics you come across, put them in your bag and dispose of correctly on dry land! All efforts to clean up our seas are worth it! Keep bubbling and be safe out there.

Terry Alsop Thank you for your efforts on this when you dived. You can continue to do this, but do it on land, and get the plastic and other debris before it gets into our rivers and oceans. I do river and lake cleanups every year, and pick up hundreds of pounds of garbage that all the pigs in this world carelessly litter our rivers and lakes with.

As the old saying goes "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
therefore, do something, whatever it is that you are capable of and that you care about. Campaign, write to your MP, start a pressure group. And of course how you live and how you spend your money.
They may seem like little things that effect little, but the more people become active in their own small ways, as a whole we can change the world.
      It is possible.
      be active, not passive.

    • @JohnRodriguesPhotographer

I remember back in the 70s when Jacques Cousteau specials would come out every few years. One year he followed a fishing trawl and his mini Subs. Those trawl Nets take everything off the bottom of the ocean and away they dredge through the settlements. He estimated that at best 40% of the catch was marketable species. The other 60% was thrown over the side dead. I remember seeing a show in the 80s where in Canada they were over exploiting the herring in the ocean. They weren't selling the fish it was the roe they were after. On a world full of starving people the fish were dumped by the tons into landfills. In Florida where I live, the mullet Fisheries collapsed. The commercial mullet fisherman tried to blame the schmuck that was out there with cast net for the collapse. The real reason is during spawning season they would go in pick up whole schools of mullet. Mullet is new big commercial value fish. But what was valuable at that time of the year was the roe for export to Asia. Once again they were catching the fish throwing away all the fish once they strip the eggs. So the mullet weren't able to spawn and surprise surprise the Fisheries collapsed. The ocean has the potential to feed the planet if and only if Will you manage the resource responsibly. there was a variety of fish that was readily available in the late 80s and 90s. Perhaps you remember seeing it in the fresh fish markets, orange roughy. In matter of a decade or two commercial fishing destroyed the orange roughy population. First of all we didn't understand the biology of the fish. secondly the method used to fish for them, the trawls, destroyed the natural habitat that they used to feed and find shelter. I think there is videos on TH-cam about the orange roughy then you might find heartbreaking and informative

As divers, we must always remember that we are still visitors in the ocean world. It is home for many animals, including this beautiful manta ray, so we must always try to treat it with respect, which includes not leaving fishing litter. It is my biggest pet peeve when I see people kicking their fins against the sand and stirring it up, or letting their alternates/SPGs swing and dangle around which can damage coral reefs, which are one of the most valuable ecosystems on Earth.

Sometimes the people around me let me down and don't even care. Not a single word was harmed in the presentation of this production and I'd bet a month's salary that my life would be infinitely more fulfilled being around people like this (and I'm not a Giant Manta Ray).

It's pretty cool that animals sometimes know that human beings will help them. There's a video out there of two entangled swans who can't get their wings free of each other, paddling together over to humans standing on the shore and just waiting there while the people help them.

I have watched numerous of these type of film and I strongly believe that the communications that take place between one specie to another shares the care of divers that take the time to assist one that is in trouble, pain, distress etc. So when a diver is around and one is in trouble they do seek out the help. It is shameful the amount of sports performed on and in waters that endanger our ocean life. The industries that make their living off of marine life yet have so little concern about its future. Thank you divers who go the extra mile in caring. Though humans don't appreciate what the ocean is all about the life within it does and appreciate you and they have various ways in showing it.

My guess is that people still for some reason have a hate since its a creature related to the kind that fatally stung Steve Irwin. Even though steve would still never harbor hate for these beautiful creatures or any creature for that matter.
      Though its only a guess

    • @Tiger313NL
      @Tiger313NL 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@sofyuchiha9 I doubt that. I think it has to do with the fact they read the title of a video, then have certain expectations. And when they don't see their exact expectations met in that video, they hit the thumbdown. And then there are the trolls and the haters, who will just thumbdown a video because reasons unknown. To be frank, it's really not worth the time and effort to try figure out their motives. And while a TH-camr may feel attacked over a thumbdown, it IS an interaction and therefore it helps said TH-camr gain views and, if monetized, money.

I snorkeled with these gentle giants. Two years ago in Hawaii. When I was younger I almost drowned so I’m terrified of the open ocean. My husband and son talked me into it saying I couldn’t miss out on a once in a lifetime experience. With their help and encouragement I was able to jump off the boat. I’m so grateful I found the courage, it really was an experience of a lifetime

We always get surprised shocked happy and all for cases gone good when it comes to so many badly treated humans and animals in need of rescue.
But i honestly always get very stunned, happy and surprised for the bravery of wild animals, daring to approach us for help.
They certainly can and will surprise you.
The warmth i feel for those who get to capture those moments for us to see what they have done!
It was maybe only one life or two, but those lives got changed because someone gave them a helping hand.
This also teaches us humans, the small specks of good that still exists in all of us.
And that is something important that we keep carry with us, and learn from.

Awesome video! They are so smart! I went diving in the Georgia Aquarium in the main Voyager Exhibit with the Manta Rays and the Whale Sharks a couple years back. The whole time the Manta rays were just like kids playing. Before we got in the water and we were setting up on the edge they kept breaching the surface and doing flips underwater. Almost as if enticing us jump in with them. When we got in, the whole time they just kept dive bombing us and breaching the surface, like they were playing/showing off. Coming right up to us making direct eye contact with curious eyes. They swam with us pretty much the whole 45 min. We were under.
