  • Thanks for checking out today's video!
    Today, Alan has two Focus STs on the dyno for some tuning. Both cars have BNR turbos and other mods along with Ethanol, so you can expect big power from these builds. Alan walks us through the pros and cons of both turbos in order to to help you better understand which turbo is a smarter choice for YOUR Focus ST.

    I like my BNR a bit quiet but the power is so much more useable. It almost feels like stock ST sped up. My FBO/E30 stock turbo was fun but it would just spin tires which was fun but now the cars so much more functional.

    I've learned a few things.
    -Every $1,000 gets you about 45whp more.
    -E30 will make a turbo performance as good as the next turbo up on 91/93.
    -oem, pmax, and 2860 is on the same ball park with E30. With improving power curves respectively. On oem fuel system.

    Edge still has the best Focus ST turbo content on YT by far...fast forward a year from my last comment...im literally pulling hairs trying to decide on the BNR67 or 71 kit.. i like the quicker spool of the 67 but the 71 isnt 'that' much slower to spool, has room for more power, and makes the 400whp'ish easier. I believe most top out around 370-390 on stock fueling, ive heard of some getting over 400whp on stock fuel...but i plan on upgrading the HPFP not too long after the turbo anyways. But I'm hoping to keep my stock clutch for a while longer (at 81k miles) and i think 400/400 would be a solid number for track/street and to keep the clutch somewhat happy.

    • @dham99
      @dham99 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ballinonabudget3313 thats a good deal! I actually ended up going with the BNR3071 and paired it with an XDi35 HPFP and RS injectors. I'm making a lot of power and need to upgrade my clutch (driving daily/casual or even a 4th gear pull isnt bad), if I try to attempt a 3-4 or 4-5 power shift while doing a run, i get major slippage and its just terrible. The install of the BNR turbos is pretty easy tbo...not sure about those GTX turbos, but it cant be too different. Main thing is prepping for clearance and some even go as far as removing the pass side axle, but I didnt need to. Main thing is annuling the copper washers, making sure the oil/coolant supply/return line fittings are tight, and that your supporting mods are in place...Even on stock fuel with the turbo maxing out the fuel system, you can make 380whp or so on 93 (about the limit on 93 without meth or something) and it still screams over a stock turbo set up. Add a fueling upgrade, and man it hauls... I have a 93 and E40 tune from JST... car has walked quite a few respectably high powered V8's that tried to pick on me XD

    So...fast forward to today...I have the BNR3071 installed on stock fueling, final revision about 2 weeks ago (still learning to drive this car all over again lol).
    I'm on 93oct currently and my tuner is saying theres no real gain from tuning for E30 right now, but I do have an XDi35 sitting in the garage. My question is, will i gain much WHP if i install the XDi hpfp (stock injectors) and tune for 93/E30 on that, or will i need injectors to go past 400whp? In this video, if the 2-port aux was not active, you hit 408whp on stock fueling and E30. Everything online says stock fueling maxes out around 360-380whp (big range depending on the site or forum you read it)...but no one is claiming to hit 400whp on stock fueling (without the aid of meth/water injection). So was this a rogue dyno, adjusted figures, etc? I'm also in south/central TX, so elevation is about 750ft compared to CO's 5,000+.
    I looked and RS injectors, while only flowing 100cc more than ST injectors, are only $200 shipped. I could toss in some RS injectors with the XDi35 pump, and would it be worth it?
    Can i break 400whp on E30 with the stock fueling? what would be my limit on E30 with the XDi35 pump (no injectors)? This video was the reason i bought the pump but didnt bother with injectors, to hit the 400 mark..I'm almost wondering if i see about tuning for E30 as-is, selling my XDi hpfp, and calling it a day, is my best option if theres no real gain from the pump alone without spending another $1k+ on injectors.

    Honest question here because I am looking for one myself, why would someone get the 67 over the 71? I understand there is a "quicker" spool with the smaller compressor, but the 71 does flow better and makes a good amount more power. The pricing seems to be similar on both.

    • @EdgeAutosport
      @EdgeAutosport  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's just all about what you're using the car for and what you want it to do. If you never upgraded the fuel system on your ST and wanted to get the most power out of it, both turbos could do that. But in that case, it would make more sense to get the 67 because of the better response. If you planned on fueling upgrades and wanted to make more power than the 67 could make and had the fueling to match it, the 71 would be the better choice. That's probably the most common scenario for choosing between the 2.
