Being versatile will put you on the right side of most situations.
Having the right tools in the boat when you need them can be crucial to a day of success. You might be heading out thinking of your favourite walleye bite but it’s just not there… where are the fish?
Maybe there just scattered around, roaming the water looking for forage. That’s where trolling for walleye comes into play.
By increasing your speed you cover more water, deploying planner boards you extend your sweeping pass. Once they see & hear those crank baits the chase is on until they connect.
Then the heart beats a little faster when the flags start to fall. Wow do I like trolling crank baits for spring walleye.
Another great afternoon on a small Saskatchewan lake.

Video is nice... not a fan of canned music. Would be far better if you instead voiced over and spent more time explaining more what you were doing... lures used, depth, speed, distance from boat, what your sonar is (or isn't) showing, type of structure, type of bottom..

Sounds good I’ll keep it in mind next time out.
I think I explained a little bit at the end, #9 Berkley flicker minnows, 1.8-2 mph, in 8-10 ft of water, 18 ft back from the board to dive 6-7 ft, offshore tackle planner boards OR-16 with tattle flags.
Matted weed bottom in a bay, spring time right after spawn. Bay was all the same depth so getting boards out the sides of the boat like 25-30 ft increases your opportunity to catch scattered fish. They will swim quite a ways to come and hit a bait.

Awesome stuff! We’ve pulled boards in the early season for shallow lake trout it’s a lot of fun!

Man that’d be a blast, crushing lakers on boards! Might have to try that one day.
      Thanks Matt 🎣

    Do you ever fish Manitoba

I’ve never been to Manitoba. Grew up in northern Saskatchewan, so I’ve fished Saskatchewan North & South, Northern Alberta & I’ve fished a fair amount in the BC Okanagan area.

You make it look so easy. I catch nothing.

Oh it’s not that easy, I assure you.
We went through a lot of baits as the morning went along eliminating colors & actions. Once we hit one walleye you know you have something, we held that one color on the one rod while I rotated through colors and different baits on the other. Every pass I changed baits / colors.
Sometimes you hope you can get more than one bait color going. When I couldn’t get another very different color catching I started making plays off what already did, which that day was a natural perch orange fire tail Berkley flicker minnow, so I just started dropping other greens & oranges at them. Turns out they liked the fire tiger one as well.
In one breath it’s about finding what works & another about eliminating what doesn’t.
Other baits I threw at them were Berkley jointed flicker shad, Salmo hornets, Rapala tail dancers. Different sized higher action baits. They were more interested in a slow rolling wobble action of a flicker minnow though.
