    If you just shoot and go, you will want a phone that relies on computational photography. Then the Xperia PRO-I is not for you. It's built for people who know how to set up their camera.

      @@080808adi i think mainly because an A7iv is a little uncomfortable in your pocket 😂... and it can't make phone calls.
      if someone knows how to use a camera; when buying a phone, i can see they would want one that has the capability to manually configure the shot.
      for a photographer i would imagine their point and shoot photos not being as good as the iphone's, would be a lot less frustrating then coming across a photo op by chance and being stuck with only point and shoot capability.
      also, photographers can do all the computational improvements afterwards anyway.

      @@080808adi a typical question from a non-photographer.
      Reason can be simple, because I don't carry my A7IV and 24-70 G lens everywhere. I need something do day-to-day point and shoot, but also allow me to use my prefered camera settings & manual image processing.
      In terms of a photography equipment, I think it has an alright price imo. Not cheap, but to me is acceptable.

      Sony missed the point entirely for smartphone cameras. They should have made a mirrorless camera with android OS instead. No one buys a smartphone to go through full manual shooting and editing....no one has that kind of time nowadays. most will simply click and share. a few minor tweaks with snapseed for finer adjustments and you're done. Sony isn't even doing long exposure shots and stacking, that's why their picture is almost always dark.

The difference is, the person filming me is also running along with me, and he is holding a tripod that is also holding 3 phones. So if you think that it's shaking too much - it is because you most likely won't be running with 3 phones in a tripod in your hand. Also, we manually turned HDR on for Pro mode.

    Xperia pro-i needs to be viewed as mobile phone version of the rx100. Computational photography is great for convenience. However if somebody knows how to make use of manual options then the only obstacle s are the conditions you are presented with.
    Sensor size and pixel sizes are another agenda. Since Google pixel is using mainly software tricks it can't be compared so much by the hardware it uses.
    If you were to compare how a photographer would use them with comparable settings then the difference would be more obvious.
    By this I mean all in raw mode this provide preproduction results for every camera tested.
    I photograph mostly in pro mode as I can edit them in post. Much rather have options later than have them decided for me.
    Anyway I think would be the real null test fir me.

    My only issue with this is that I'm not sure you clarify if you maximizing the photopro mode with the Xperia pro I and taking the time to manually make the adjustments. that is when the phone does it's best. Same with when it is night mode as it doesn't have the computational bredth of the other two phones, but with time one can actually take a better photo with the pro-i if willing to put in the time.
    The second gripe is that it seem you were unwilling to give the iphone a 1 rating...when ever that situation came up, you then gave a tie for second so two points for both, instead of sticking to your guns and giving one of them a 1 point. If ties were available to be given, then you could have also given a tie for first place, but you correctly chose not to do that.
    The third issue is you didn't mention the front self; we do face time or google duo all the time and the sony pro I's terrible front facing camera is a big disadvantage for sony.

    • @versus_com
      @versus_com  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! Camera comparisons are not about manual adjustments. In that case, it would not be about the camera app and the software of the phone, but about the user - which would make all of these phone comparisons irrelevant. In our opinion, you should be asking Sony for a better Basic and Pro auto mode.
      If two phones have similar results, then they can tie. If there is a big difference like in the Portrait category, then there will be no tie. It isn't about guns or whatever, it is just how the system works.
      You're right about the front camera, but it is quite obvious in the selfies that the Sony has a old Samsung 8 MP front camera.

      @@versus_com , I highly doubt Sony lowers itself for the sake of redundant point-and-shoot users. Besides, exclusive features are how they have ALWAYS set themselves apart in any consumer arena.
      The Xperia shouldn't have been used in this video considering you are basically bypassing "Pro" feature on this phone and comparing two Toyota Prius's to a Indy car. I'm almost positive Sony does not like this review.
      Compare fairly: You could have easily compared iPhone 13 Pros features to the Xperia and placed the Pixel to the side when comparing video. But, you also didn't even mention ProRes or Cinema Mode.
      Why not compare the iPhone 13 to the Pixel 6 and a similar Sony phone if you are just going to compare "basic" features?
      Lastly, the Xperia kills both the iPhone and Pixel in every area but yet this video sent people buying "Pro" versions of a phone that they will likely never need or use instead of the standard cheaper versions.

    • @Floridarollin
      @Floridarollin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@versus_com Are you at all familiar with how DSLR/mirrorless cameras are compared? The comparisons are not irrelevant simply because it's about the "user", you can easily figure out which camera has a better tone-mapper, better image processing, imagine fidelity, ISO performance etc. in manual comparisons in controlled settings. In fact, they truly showcase the true fidelity of a Camera. It has virtually nothing to do with the user if you subject the cameras to the same settings both in camera and post-processing.

      @toddysurcharge771 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Floridarollin he is not knowledgable about photography is what I am getting from it and too lazy to learn anything. No one is buying a Sony Xperia because it's simple point and shoot. @Tessoro Desoto true, that’s still a considerable difference though. This is more of a review of the most basic of pro modes... Auto mode is a decent mode on the Xperia PRO-I if you actually edit the raw files... Also something to note is that again he is using Pro Auto mode... Which is okay but really to get the best results you need to treat it like an actual camera and not a phone... Program Auto would have been your best bet... And then chose your ev adjustment and you're good to go but also... Raw makes a big difference too... So basically the test was the equivalent of buying a M3/M4 and leaving it in eco mode and saying its not so good... A lot of these phone reviews are really just awkward as they for the most part point click... While the iPhone and pixel are intentionally designed to work that way... That is not really what the Xperia is for... I can tell you first hand that the iPhone is sometimes a little better in pretty low light handheld... But it's not due to the anything other than the iphones wider aperture allowing the iphone to shoot at lower iso... And maybe even a faster shutter speed so it needs less stabilization. With the Sony you can get a very similar image but you will need to play with noise reduction in post... But if you leave the Xperia in Auto particularly at night it will try and do a pretty long exposure and bump iso decently high... Generally, with the iso at night, I find I can usually bump down the iso one or two notches from autos recommendation unless I'm needing a really fast shutter speed... I find for me I can hand hold about 1/10th maybe 1/8th if I'm really stablehanded that day haha... With the Xperia it takes a little practice and it will get you the results you just have to know what the camera is going to do and decide what you need to get the shot you want.

    Xperia has the best camera on any smartphone invented , the fact u have this large sensor is really a game changer , u should mention in ur video that to use Xperia at it best u should use the pro app , u basically have a dslr in ur pocket and when someone with no knowledge use a dslr u get same bad quality as the video u provided of the Xperia .
    seeing another videos o youtube and how mind blowing their results' are , definitely proves that you should not compere this phone that way of u should have mentioned that with Xperia u get completely different results if u used it with pro app
    the point is , Xperia is the best option for video and photographers , content creators lads how love to act or take a cinematic vid's and they are willing to spent time to learn a the manual controls to get amazing results , even for normal people taking a 3 days to learn how to use manual cntrols is not that hard .

      Well we were trageting the average user not the pro user.... that is why we dont use the pro mode... in this case the sony, even though it has all the pro capability, does not perform.. we are getting what you are pointing out,... thinking about using a phone to shoot in pro mode is a wierd thing to do.. considering the price you pay especially for this phone... why dont you get a dslr for the same price with even better quality? just somehting to think about...

    You missed out on the cost factor which makes for a good few points over the iPhone 13. As a photographer I had a hard time deciding between pixel and iPhone but I went for pixel and it's been superb to use. Not to mention, their firmware updates are going to make it even better. Use of third party apps for cameras is also a huge Plus point for Pixel.

    • @versus_com
      @versus_com  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually, we have a professional photographer. I'm sure he knows how to use a manual camera. The problem is, Jesson, that these comparisons are about phones and not professional cameras. Software is included in the phone, and it is responsible for adjusting settings. If we start playing around with the settings on the Xperia, then we have to start playing around with every single phone. If we do that, then what is the point of the software? Most people point and click with their devices, and that is what we're trying to cover. Also, we didn't use Basic mode, but used the Pro auto mode.

We used the Pro mode for all wide and ultrawide photos, and also used the Video Pro and Cinema Pro for shooting video.

      By means of pro, we literally mean taking advantage of the controls that the Photo Pro app gives to users that the iPhones and Pixels don't.
      Right from the start, this isn't even something needed to be made because of the clear difference in target audience between Sony and Apple & Google.
      What is the Xperia Pro-I meant for? It's essentially for those who already happen to own a mirrorless camera like the Sony Alphas and want to have a phone that could somehow resemble the imaging science of their proper digital cameras, and also can act as an external monitor for them. And it also explains why Sony doesn't sell million units of this, nor do they plan to, because it is a clearly niche market that they're targeting, so this is a truly inappropriate to compare it against mainstream flagships and give it a bad reputation for not being suited according to everyone's likings.

    Google as a company has software prowess as its core strength. My Pixel 3 with just one camera can still put most triple camera phones to shame. Note that the whole world is following the software road now and the tendency is to do away with the physical and use software only. On the other hand, some will argue that software can never achieve what hardware can. But in reality it actually needs to be a combination of both and we will achieve the best of both worlds.

    as a sony user who been through Nokia - Sony ericsson era
    let just be honest sony is always hard selling their brand ...like...1.7k usd for a smartphone with not much unique features that a high end phone should have ( Except pro apps for camera / video )
    some of you may defend sony on how good their camera is when using the pro apps...yeah can't deny it is good while in pro mode but for the same time and money that you can get a real camera you make a good shot too, im talking a A7iii here cost 1.9k USD
    we all know this is A.I Computational tech generation, with the old method of making smartphone, and never move on to adapt tech outside of their expertise, they just stay where they are...
    Sony may say their target market are those photographer, but again...most photographer would still bring along a camera
    the sensor of smartphone would never beat the real camera due to size differences, just never..imagine smartphone would put in a larger sensor than 1inch, the phone will be large and bulky
    the shot result of iphone and pixel here just show you how A.I computational photograph is going to blow out your mind how future of photography is. Of course, it still need a good sensor for the foundation, and A.I would just "fix" everything.

    The Xperias also have flaws but on the Pro-i the sensor and lens are clearly superior to both the iPhone and the Pixel 6; Xperia should be used in manual mode to get the best out of it and it was designed for that. Then no one noticed that the Google 6 has purple flare problems and we are at 2023, you can see it both in the photo and in the video. Hi everyone.

    I have all the phones but iphone 13. I have the XR, anyways if your have the time and patience the Xperia is a beast. Thing is most people want a point and shoot which is why iphone or pixel don't have a pro mode natively. While I love my Xperia they really need to focus on that front facing camera. They also need to let 3rd party apps access the API as video calls or anything else outside the native camera app looks like trash. For that reason my sim stays either in my pixel 6 pro or Z fold 3. It's more in my Pixel 6 Pro because of the call screening feature and live translate. If you speak/study multiple languages the NPU on the Pixel is where it's at.

      Hi, Alfred! This was the manual (Pro) usage with its Auto mode. Not Basic mode. Basic was only used for selfies and portrait photos, because it doesn't let you take those photos in any other mode. The problem is, we are testing phone cameras and their softwares - not photographers. If we manually change settings for each phone for each photo, what is the point of the software?

      Sony = Cinematography. Pixel = Videography. iPhone = Best of both worlds due to ProRes and Cinematic Mode in which this video failed to mention. ProRes kick started the Indy film industry (RAW vs ProRes) so its fair to mention what makes it "Pro". Most users I've seen reviewing the iPhone 13 Pro seem to have no idea how to grade ProRes. You will most definitely deduct points going off ProRes (unedited) so its no wonder it gets a bad rep. I wonder how many are throwing a filter over ProRes instead of a LUT.
