    Longines is one of the oldest and most historically influential names names in horology.They still make great watches and who cares if part of Swatch Group?Breguet is Swatch too and I'd rather have lowest end Breguet over any Rolex.Almost all watch companies fall under a larger umbrella company now days,not a big deal.Longines was,is and hopefully will remain a great brand and maker of fine watches.

    But really just because the movement is eta and not in house doesn't make a watch dog shit. what you got to remember is a watch movement no matter if its in house or not will only last 5 years before you need it serviced. what is so good about a in house movement anyway? it's a concept, just because its rarer. Yes it looks more decorative and polished, so should people pay thousands more for that, isn't that crazy? its still made with cheap stainless steel cogs and wheels and springs but arranged in a different order most people don't care about having in house movement that much. I think archieluxury is concentrating more on resale value when he talks about watches and not on a person buying a watch to wear and keep.

    Longines Master chronograph is a really nice looking watch even though it has an ETA movement. ETA movements are good work horses and usually quite reliable. Some of the old Longines chronographs with in house movements are quite famous and really expensive.

    • @loudharley6926
      @loudharley6926 ปีที่แล้ว

      ETA has been the base for many very high end watches over the years. Their Valjoux has been in many classic luxury watches ie: BREITLING NAVITIMER (REF. A2332212/C586), OMEGA SPEEDMASTER DATE 40 (REF. 3210.50.00), Rolex's infamous Daytona, released in 1963, and a few Franck Muller watches. Yup, total shit

    He is correct in saying that Longines has a long and great history and its heyday was in the 40's through the late 60's until quartz watches made their appearance. They are not as popular as they once were, nor do they have the same reputation. Calling them "dogshit" however is just plain stupid. Many view Longines as a step above Tissot and Tag Heuer and that is their current niche. Doesn't make them dogshit.

    Longines is not dog shit! Swatch group may own them but they have came out with some amazing heritage and dress pieces. They do have some lower end and entry level pieces and quartz b/s but it is marketed as a mid range brand within company. Longines, for certain pieces, get exclusive ETA movements. They are not a higher end brand, use in group movements and fits into it's own niche. Better than Tag Heuer. Breitling is better but still below Rolex and Omega. Baume is whatever. For the price and some cool vintage style pieces they come out with and the segment they are in, I would buy one. Not for investment but great watch without in house movement. Tag Heuer is the real dog shit brand, 1887 controversy and was Seiko movement, overpriced base ETA movements. I would buy a Monaco but the movement and resale is awful. The Formula 1 and Link and Aquaracer is more turd. I am not against lower end watches but Tag Heuer is a joke. Archie you dislike anything with an ETA movement, patchy history and bought and rebranded by conglomerates, bad design or gaudy style. You are a watch snob, purist, connoisseur and want the best quality and name and watch. I am the same way but appreciate the lower price point pieces as much as the A.Lange, Vacheron's and Patek's of the watch world.

    Ok, so I still didn't get what's wrong with Longines. Swatch owns both Longines and the treasured Omega that he lusts after. Both make extensive use of ETA movements (which Swatch also owns) and both have an extremely solid reputation. Longines 13.33Z was the first chronograph movement produced for a wristwatch. I think you'll see lots of new cool things of the Longines brand in the near future.

    Longines CEO is re-making the old watches including Lindbergs. I own a Heritage which I wear daily & proudly. The critics focus on the modern watches which is quite fair but one day the CEO may return to re-making the old watches using its own movements. That will result in higher prices and the end of daily wear for us all.

  • @radoslawjocz2976
    @radoslawjocz2976 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Longines is a premium brand and nowadays you have to pay for heritage a lot. The same as Tissot or Omega, depending how much you want to spend, if price and design and heritage is OK for you just buy it. Nothing is wrong to buy a expensive watch as long you can afford and enjoy at the same time. I like very much vintage models of Longines and Omega, I do not like new trends to make oversize watches, it is a wrong direction, ergonimics and feel is ery important. Thw quartz revolution changed a lot and it is inpossible to ignore it. I am enjoying quartz watches and Eco Drive. You dont need to spend a lot to own quality watch which can be nice design and last a long time and yet to be a known brand worldwide with long heritage. Some people think if they spend more for watch it will be beter, but it is not always the case. I have seen lots of watches which re not good for a ridiculous high prices.
    I do not agree that Longines is shit, Flagship or Conquest Heritage looks quite nice, but I never had one of these.

    FYI, I don't give a flying one about how the glass is fixed into the case. That only matters when you take the thing apart. Nor am I aware of any brand that makes a selling point of it. So if it doesn't bother anyone else, why does it all of a sudden become an issue just because we're talking about Longines?
    You're entitled to your opinions mate, but that's all they are - opinions! And until you give us _reasons_ to believe you, instead of _excuses_ and confirmation bias, I propose to take them with a pinch of salt.

    Wow Archie. I do enjoy your rants but you need to learn a bit more about movements and history before sprouting all this BS. New Longines is no different to that Breguet Type XX you keep going on about. It's a revamped brand with a Lemania based moment. Even the extremely valuable original Type 20 was based on a modified Valjoux 22 movement. My point is that non in house movements have been used by the best brands in some of the most important watches in history. You could argue that the fact that Swatch owns both companies means this it is in house but that's besides the point. You have no right to call a watch "shit" because it's a non in house machine, history tells a different story pal.

      ETA can be regulated to work as good as any of the in house stuff. I know they make good stuff. But the best Longines models are vintage....even they recognize this and have released a heritage series...including the diver I mentioned but they use an ETA chrono movement vs the legendary Valjoux 72 like I have in mine.

    • @eco8gator
      @eco8gator 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only reason I have my Longines 8224 is it was given to me (i usually put my money towards high end brands). I like the watch but I would have never bought one with my own money though I think the vintage piece is much more interesting than the newer heritage piece. And the Longines of today would never service my watch due to age so them being around now is irrelevant to me. In regards to movements, I do hope that the newer ETA's are more accurate than those of the past but its hard to beat a well regulated column wheel chrono like the Valjoux 72...and it being used in a Rolex Daytona adds to the coolness factor.

    I don't believe you have correct information on Longines. Let me start by stating, that the brand has been around before Rolex, Omega, Breitling, Panerai and all high end time pieces. They are slso responsible for creating the first chrono in a wrist watch. Longines is a high quality time piece. They are pioneers who have created many of the movements usee by most high end time pieces. So please give Longines the credit it has eraned.

    I was relatively OK with what this guy was telling us until he said L is a fucking garbage and started to talk about Alpha watch. Longines may not be the best watch in the world, but they totally do not deserve this. Longines may not be as cool as Breitling but hey, look at the pricetags. Longines is absolutely OK for the money U pay for it.
    PS: Longines is owned by SWATCH group so basically U can call ETA inhouse with Longines lol

    😂 This guy talks one amount of shite, Longines is owned by Swatch group, as is Omega, Breguet, Hamilton, Rado and Certina ect. To say they are dog shit really shows how much this character knows about Watches and horology.

    You're alienating viewers with your weak argument. What well-respected watch brand doesn't rely on it's past? Longines 'generic' movement is priced accordingly. If you don't like the brand, buy something else but, at the same price level you're gonna get the same movement.

    Alfa has never had nothing to do with Ferrari, they were only racing! the Alfa 156 wasn't an expensive car, but it had a good engine, probably you drive like a woman so you never had the chance to taste the Alfa 100%. Also calm down you don't need to yell and swear to make a point. Longines are good watches for a decent price. Stop swearing before somebody comes to beat your ass!

    I have a Longines HydroConquest as a beach beater watch. For that its a nice watch and as a present for a 15 year old. But the main rule is if its affordable its shit!
    But Longines made some really nice watches up untill the quartz revolution!

      Only a snob would use that beautiful hydroconquest as a beater!!! I deserve that watch more than you do! Take care of it it's a very nice watch and you want to beat the shit out of it A CASIO is a beater watch not a Hydroconquest and most 15 year olds can't get a watch like that as a present!

    HAHAHA. I think you're right to give your point of view like you do. In the watch world, where everything is wonderful, it's absolutely refreshing to see people put everything in their passion. You're absolutely right, Archie! I really like you, dude.
    First, I apologize for my english. This is not my native language. So, pardon my French. HAHAHA!
    This said, I think you're partially right and partially wrong. Longines is a brand which survived, now "embeded" in the swatch group in their "High range". With a specific spirit. I know that people think: "Longines, it's shit now" compared to their glorious past. And you're right. But I think they stoped to be a "manufacture" before their entry in the Swatch Group. That's a dramatic story, when you think Longines was founded one year before Jaeger Lecoultre and as they didn't have the same destiny... And they survived too, to the shity quartz revolution.
    But by the way, I think you're a little bit wrong too, and you should look at the price now. For exemple, an Hydroconquest 3 hands is a 1,000/1,500 bucks watch, depending of the finition and the movement (now improved in the last 2018 versions). Of course, compared to a Rolex Sub, which is the LIGHTHOUSE in the watch world, it's UNDER. In terms of reliabilty, quality and finition. But for the price, it's a very reliable and fine watch with a robust, and dedicated ETA (I think, a 2892?) movement.
    The questions I ask to myself, when someone ask me if this watch or this watch is good or not, is: 1/ is it possibly the only watch fyou could own for or a whole life? 2/ Is it nicely finished with a reliable movement? And 3/ Does this watch deserves its price?
    To my mind, a modern Longines is possibly the only watch you can own for your whole life. They are nicely finished with reliable and everywhere repairable movement. And these watches derseves their prices. I even think, the're sold with very aggresive prices, compared today, to Japanese watches, like Seiko for exemple. They're crazy! If you ask me: "Bruno, is this new 2018 'marine master' a piece of crap for the price? I would answer you: "Yes Archie. For 3200 bucks, this is DEFINITIVELY AND ABSOLUTELY A BIG PIECE OF CRAP!
    Thumb up for your work, and carry on!

    I absolutly agree with that. Longines have beautiful cases but the same eta calibers than tissot for 3x the price. If you want proper caliber, no other choice than rolex, zenith or patek. That's a pity but it's the true
