    I decided to buy 2 more untested Xbox 360 consoles... (I bought 3 untested xbox 360 consoles from goodwill a while back). For this video, I bought 2 untested Xbox 360 ELITE consoles - 1 from eBay and 1 from Mercari. Buying untested consoles is sketchy, and this is my first time purchasing from Mercari, so check out the video to see how it went...

      I agree with this. Listing as untested outside of parts only is fraud. If you cannot verify function of a device, it should be considered parts only until verified.

    • @Lettuce1
      @Lettuce1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@zero9112 not really fraud, more a rip off. Sellers are not required to test them if the listing specifies it is untested. They should be in parts only, that i can agree with, but they do not have to be under any Terms of Services. Of course it is a problem because there is no real way to show the console is untested, most consoles are tested and found to be in a non working order, leaving the buyer as the one to blame because by purchasing the “untested” console, they knew that the odds were likely stacked against them. This means the seller almost always wins.

    I wouldn't say you got super screwed for the price you payed! Totally cleanable, just some work. Definitely wouldn't trash them, it may not matter much since the Xbox One and newer consoles are backwards compatible, but some people can't afford those consoles. Maybe give it away if you don't feel like cleaning it. Good video though!

    • @MrRhysReviews
      @MrRhysReviews 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah "Backwards Compatible" for like a fraction of the overall Library, and even if we take into account Remasters/Re-Releases (a lot of which later had the X360 Versions made BackCompat instead of other games without Remasters which was bloody pointless 🤔) which even then it's still like 1/1,000,000th of the Library
      OG Xbox is even worse, think of the THOUSANDS of games for that System... 48... You get 48 of those 🤣

      @@Galahad993 It's more a matter of preservation... It's fine for now, but what about when the Servers/Files are no longer available? Then it isn't BackCompat AT ALL so what I said was relevant (also I was bringing up how they wasted time "Porting" games through the program that already had native PS4/Xbone releases instead of games stuck on PS3/360 so that is also somewhat relevant, especially if they don't go back to doing more OG/360 stuff at some point 🤷‍♂️)
      I'm a PlayStation guy though first and foremost and I keep all my Hardware (and still have my PS3 and even PS2 hooked up alongside my PS5/X1X/Switch/Wii U) so I'm good 👍

      @@Galahad993 Obviously, it's all hypothetical at this point but it remains that it is finite, you need the Servers for anything to be "BackCompat" which basically defeats the purpose of such "BackCompat"... Every other System with BackCompat is actually running the games off the Disc (the X360 did this with OG Xbox games for example, PlayStation basically started it as we know it today on PS2 which had Full BackCompat with PS1 and then the same with the Launch PS3 which could do PS1/PS2 Natively)

      “Service date means it went to Microsoft for ANY type of work.
      They put a new warranty sticker on after a service.
      It could have been a DVD drive repair, or it was a refurb, anything.
      It's probably the original board, though. And if not, likely the same model of board.

    Just do a cleaning job on the smoker console as a test to see if it is actually possible to clean.
    What you want to do is just take it apart as much as possible, and then dunk all the non-electronic bits into a tub full of soapy water and let it soak.
    For the electronic bits, I found that just plain IPA and lots of scrubbing will take care of any bad smells.

  • @rwdplz1

    I feel like there's a lot of stuff sold on ebay as "untested" even though the seller knows damn well it doesn't work because they have tested it. Not saying this person is scamming you, only because there's no way to prove it. The whole untested thing is literally just a scapegoat for sellers to sell something broken knowing they can get a bit more money out of it that way instead of just listing it as for parts or repair.

    • @jrob0021
      @jrob0021  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yeah for sure. I think the ebay listing was legitimately untested. And for a console like the 360, there are a lot that are actually untested because the power brick is proprietary and not something people usually have laying around (unless you're like me). A lot of people that sell consoles like this just get them in a big lot or other random places, and they aren't a gamer and don't have the right power supply. Now with newer consoles, that's a little bit different because most of the new consoles just need a standard pc power cord

  • @zero9112
    @zero9112 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Sir, how is listing a untested console under "parts only" a ripoff? If you are looking for a working console look under "used working". Just because an item has no use for you does not make it a ripoff. Do not disappoint yourself. You can do better.

    I once operated a computer repair business. Dirty equipment is ultra common. Some people have REALLY dirty electronics because they never do anything to protect them or clean them. Dirt is very bad for them however and will lead to all sorts of issues. If you are going to buy used equipment, I recommend investing in a basic computer repair tool kit and plenty of canned air and canned electronics cleaning spray. Most of what you get used will be very dirt and often will smell bad.
    Learning how to correctly open the cases and work inside is not hard to do. Be SURE to wear a grounded wrist strap when handling any electronics parts. That will eliminate harmful static electricity discharges that can harm internal parts. The tool kits have good brushes for cleaning hard to reach spots and proper tools for unfastening and grasping parts. Obviously, if a part like a disk drive needs replacing, that can be done easily enough. Plenty of videos showing how. All you need is the proper tools and procedures to follow, plus a good working drive.
    At minimum, people should cover their consoles when not in use to keep dirt out. Ideally, every 6 months to 1 year, the inside of the units need to be blown out with compressed air. If just those two things are done regularly, the equipment should stay clean and work well.

    That sound you hear from that disk drive, comes from the plastic part that is inside the top cover (the label side of the dvd), it gets pulled magnetically into place, and because of dust and dirt, it doesn't get pulled level against the disk and rotor, so when the disk spins at high speed, you hear this sound, i had this with a pc optical drive, if it is to bad, the damage is permanent and the sound will never go away again, but if it is in an early stage, you can clean it out and hope that this plastic "disc thing" get pulled to the rotor correctly. You can always replace that plastic "disk thing", its part of the top cover and mostly held in place by a plastic sheet that is glued over this thing, it has to sit loose inside of the top cover of the drive. I know my explanation isn't a 100 percent, but english isn't my native language, so i hope you understand what i am referring to
