Fun fact - I used to do Xbox 360 and PS3 reflows back in the day… before it was well known that it was just a temporary fix. I wish I could remember my success rate, but it was so long ago that I have no clue. For my first rrod repair, all I had to do was clean out the dust! Got lucky.
thank you! I'll definitely use all these nice comments as leverage the next time I want to interject about some random point Jacob screws up in the video 🌚
I can't imagine! I was stuck on PS3 for that generation so I missed out on the rrod craziness, although I certainly had friends that had consoles die on them. Glad you liked the video, appreciate the support! 😁
I remember the original Xbox 360 console, I had the 4GB one because my dad worked in janitorial and found it and yeah that one lasted me a long time, I have the 360 Slim and it still works 💪🏽 Danny is pretty cool, he should be on Jacob's TH-cam Videos more often 😊
Rework the guts from a slim into a classic body? Start on the arduous journey of making a pcb recreation of the 360 to revitalize the life of the hardware while adding insane quality of life upgrades? That sounds more like main channel jazz
I have a Falcon Elite with RROD. I did the Q-tip trick in which I stuck a bald Q-tip in the fans to prevent the fan from spinning. Turned it on and waited for it to overheat, turned it off immediately and let it cool for 20 minutes. Turned on after that, however the disc drive has issues, combine that with the 0110 error code and it is not worth permanently fixing, especially considering it’s on the metro dashboard.
I used to get 360's from ewaste (to clean and resell locally for $20) and used come across quite a lot of Xenon's. I found that you never had to heat the chips for long, from memory it was only a minute or 2. Out of the 40-50 of them I "reflowed", only around 8ish couldn't be temporarily fixed by this (never sold any of these). I highly recommend against anyone getting Xenons, Zephyrs or early Falcons as they will all die this way, no matter how cool you run them. The HANA chip (or ANA for Xenon's as they don't have HDMI) I've found to be pretty problematic as well, even in slims, but it's nowhere near as common as the early GPU failures.
It would be fun having a crack at the red ring fixes like the towel trick/paperclip trick from back in the day. Those original 360s are worth nothing anyway so theres no harm. Maybe you can also test the rubber method on the ps3 and see if it actually works because there's quite a debate on whether or not it works
The way I fix this is without flux. In fact the point is not to "reflow" the gpu. You have to heat up the gpu to bring up the temperature, and then concentrate on the dies In hope that a connection gets fixed. If you have a finer heat gun, you can try it but it might be too far gone if it's fake overheating. Also it was cool meeting Danny, hope to see more of him in the future.
I have one that was made in 2006 and it’s still working surprising I even refurbished it myself and kept it for myself it was given to me for free, so fun stuff edit all that was wrong with it is it needed to be cleaned and the belt replaced for the disk tray because the dish tray I was having the stuck issue so I fix that good times
found a jasper at goodwill last year for 30 with cables. peel on IR receiver. opened to service and maybe clean. it wasn't dirty at all. paste still pasty, i still put some newer stuff on. unfortunately broke some clips, was very brittle.
I reflowed a PS3 before when l got it from someone and it only lasted a month before it was fully out of commission not too bad for a free system. I only recommend reflowing if you need to get files off of the system to transfer it to a new one. Reflowing gives you enough time for that if successful.
Not even sure if Danny has any kind of IT certification presently, but he’s so natural at this, he probably could do well with IT training video guides!
I cleaned mine up unplugged the fan until it had the two flashing lights an it fixed it been playing on it all night last night with out a hitch only payed £12 for it mainly for the silver launch trim
I had an xbox 360 that was saying it was overheating but the heatsink was room temp, i found a tutorial online that said there is a sensor and ahowed you qhere toncut the trace for it, after i cut it the console worked fine that was 6 years ago and the guy that has it says it is still working
The Last i reflow Work. I Put Flux on the Chip and Turn on without aircooling. Then they shutdown after a while. Then i wait for cooling down The Xbox360. Then they Work fine. Can be I have luck 🤷🏻♂️
this is not about the bga on the interposer to motherboard, it's the bga for the die to the interposer. this has been confirmed by MS and Ocatal450. The best fix for this would be to replace the GPU.
The problem is all of the GPUs before the redesign in the S/E have the same flaw. Maybe somebody will figure out a "Frankenstein" mod similar to the PS3.
Yeah I probably said it incorrectly in the video, but this is 100% what I meant to say. It's not about the connections on the board as much as it's about the connections under the die. Thanks for the clarification, it was difficult to find a non-techy way to squeeze all this info into a few sentences lol
I would’ve done the reflow differently first off you had the hot air station set to the wrong temperature it should be around 500 degrees and I’d only put it on the chip for 2 minutes
Resistors R4d3 - 8 possibly causing the instant overheating error? My 360 has a corona v2 mobo so im not sure if this console has the same resistors or atleast in the same location but they are for the thermal sensors and if they dont read 0 or near 0 ohms when testing resistance you could try adding some solder to each one to make sure its not a weak connection or removing them with a soldering iron and bridge the connections for each removed resistor usually if not all atleast one will have gone bad by now! Im not an expert but im learning and have saved 2 360 slims so far and many other random electronics i refuse to let go loll! as far as any other suggestions i can think of check for any bent or touching pins in the usb ports , av , power connector sometimes even the connector on the power brick that goes into the xbox just needs to be cleaned off with higher% isopropyl alcohol and q tip! Im sure theres other things to check i dont know to check yet but with that i hope im able to help someone who sees this!
I got one for free from a fb marketplace post its the same model as this video took it apart put new thermal paste and its my secondary 360 out of my gaming room in my bedroom
I enjoyed the video there was this one guy reflowing in his oven on TH-cam we should try that and there was this other guy that would take a torch to the GPU heat sink every 6 months 😁 thanks
I don‘t like the 360 because 1. Red ring of death 2. A friend of mine had one and scratched all the discs and ruined his games 3.The Dashboard is hard to navigate through and the ps3‘s interface is so easy to use
next time you reflow which you already know is no good for a long term fix and pretty much kills the board long term., there is no need to warm the board like that. you do want the board supported so it does not sag from the heat. flux is your friend and bring the heat gun right to the chip just hovering above with its medium size tip. you want to cook the gpu and bring the solder to its melting point and you want to do it fast. crank it to like 450 let the gun preheat like 15 seconds. small circles just over the chip lower fan speed. the flux will bubble and you will see surrounding solder mirror over. as soon as that happens let off a second or two after it happens and let cool 20min before touching the board
It's a Xenon. Xenon's that were sent to MS for repair were sent back with the Zephyr heatsinks later on. How this one has one I'm not sure, guessing the original owner replaced it as it has the original silver warranty sticker still.
Man stop supporting goodwill. They get all their items for free and charge eBay prices while the CEO sits at home on his Yacht and the employees work for minimum wage. This company is a joke
then make you feel like shit by asking if you'd like to round up for extra job training. bitch i thought charging $$$ for used stuff in the first place was what that went to. and raising prices was supposed help do that.
More propagation of shotty repair methods. Sad, and disappointing. You could use your platform to educate people on proper rework. :( Fun fact, your "reflow" isn't even reflowing anything. The solder is not melting from this. The only reason this gave temporary revivals is because it caused the underfill under the GPU die to contract from thermal expansion properties.

For my first rrod repair, all I had to do was clean out the dust! Got lucky.
why can not we just replace the GPU chip? I done repairs to non-working GameCubes before and I want to know.
so did you fix disc drives or reflow consoles?
Did you ever do the towel trick
We need more Danny in the future. He seems like a chill dude and he had a good first impression. 👍
yesss 💯💯
thanks friend! ❤
@@DannyTheEditor anytime!
Sometimes the goodwill purchases don’t go as planned… what should I buy from goodwill next?
Original ps3
Any 6th or 7th gen console
An Atari Jaguar, just for some good laughs 🤣.
honestly? If you can find one look for a dreamcast.
Danny seems really nice and chill, hope to see more of him in the future! 😊
thank you! I'll definitely use all these nice comments as leverage the next time I want to interject about some random point Jacob screws up in the video 🌚
Danny's a natural on camera. Hope to see you on the channel more often.
Thank you friend! You will, don't worry 👀
Why do I find myself liking Danny the Editor more than Jacob 😂. I find it amusing the guy most knowledgeable about consoles edits the videos 😂.
Same!!!
The red ring of death i think every 360 owner had one of those at some point. Cool to see Danny on there hope to see him more
Not me.
I never did, only owned the jasper model
I can't imagine! I was stuck on PS3 for that generation so I missed out on the rrod craziness, although I certainly had friends that had consoles die on them. Glad you liked the video, appreciate the support! 😁

You're very welcome 😎🤜🏽🤛🏽
360 slim had a much better build against rrod they made her chip much smaller allowing the more powerful fan to cool it quicker.
It was cool to hear from Danny! Have fun on vacation Jacob. Love the videos y’all put out

i must say danny's hair is magnificent
Danny - you make SUPERB videos - please keep making more! Would love to see more of your content on here with Jacob's!
Thanks friend! I'll make sure to steal as much camera time as I can 😈

welp, the people have spoken. I guess we'll have to rename the channel to "Danny R"

This video is amazing, it's so great to see that the true cause of most RROD is becoming more well-known.
Thank you! I hope I said everything in a pretty accurate way, it was hard to boil it all down to a few sentences lol

@@Nighterlev you can put the heat sinks on when it’s still warm lol

Only 20 bucks? Goodwill has raised console prices so hard that I find this tough to believe

at one point i got a console with 3 rings and then i smacked it on the top then it started working. it was from like a few months before launch
I have one of these 2006 consoles without the HDMI port. It still works great. I guess I'm one of the few. Still, I'm afraid to turn the thing on.

I really enjoyed Danny’s content and knowledge. More please!! 😊
I just got a slim for $66 with the hard drive in great condition. I thought it was a fairly good deal.

I fixed my xbox 360 from 2007 by just putting it on the oven at 130 Celsius.
Nice to see you Danny on this video maybe you should think about being in more videos
I got mine about a week ago for 5 dollars and it still works from 2008 and I just need a controller and that's it
A bolt mod can resurrect it for a few weeks.
I got one for free from a fb marketplace post its the same model as this video took it apart put new thermal paste and its my secondary 360 out of my gaming room in my bedroom

Not sure how you reflow with the underfill still on the chip
Nice video, i really liked the... Plot twist?
Definitely not original thermal paste heat sinks would not have came off that easily
Yesterday was just thinking.
i've found a xenon one that works but rlod's after 20-30min, might re-paste and add a fan but not sure how i go long term
Great video!
I want see logo😭 (hasnt watched full video yet)
I don‘t like the 360 because
1. Red ring of death
2. A friend of mine had one and scratched all the discs and ruined his games
3.The Dashboard is hard to navigate through and the ps3‘s interface is so easy to use
And so the Danny takeover begins. 😂 what next? Subliminal messages to convince us to come see your new channel? 😅

When Xbox 360 just came out reflow was the ulimate fix. Some flux and heath gun and hurry to sell it .

Does anybody know what motherboard version that is? Heatsinks/gpu/cpu look like Zephyr but motherboard looks like Xenon? 🤔

what do you do with all the consoles you buy?

Playstation 3 have the same problem.
This is why the xbox one is a far superior console to the xbox 360
