@@jacksonbrowne-de2fu "Hello, Jackson," she humbly began. You observe the world very carefully. Yes, the Earth was abused by the men who learned how to forge Her beauty into power; and yet, on sites where lyrics can be found, someone now makes assumptions that you've implied all the jaded humans have destroyed the Earth. It's not especially true and not what you said, just the latest narrative. Lately I'm wondering if those power hungry ones will be confused by the magnitude of Her Fury in the final hour. . . . . .

Is there a better songwriter than Jackson Browne? He is unique. Lots of depth, but not overly quirky. Down to earth stuff. And is there a more versatile musician than David Lindley? Give him anything that has strings, and he can play it, even if he has never played it before. What a talent. He and Jackson make a wonderful team. I just participated in one of those Facebook challenges where you are supposed to pick 10 albums that have influenced your musical tastes. "Late For The Sky" was my #1 choice.

My favorite artist of all time, he has always spoken directly to my soul. Clyde Jackson Browne is the most prophetic musician I have ever listened to. David Lindley on slide guitar and many other instruments is bonded with JB like a brother and plays with such beauty and intensity. The songs tell storys about life and lost loves that touch you so deeply that you think he was there when she left you and translated your pain with music.

    Some of them were dreamers
And some of them were fools
Who were making plans and thinking of the future
With the energy of the innocent
    They were gathering the tools
They would need to make their journey back to nature
While the sand slipped through the opening
And their hands reached for the golden ring
With their hearts they turned to each other's hearts for refuge
In the troubled years that came before the deluge
    Some of them knew pleasure
And some of them knew pain
And for some of them it was only the moment that mattered
And on the brave and crazy wings of youth
They went flying around in the rain
And their feathers, once so fine, grew torn and tattered
And in the end they traded their tired wings
For the resignation that living brings
And exchanged love's bright and fragile glow
For the glitter and the rouge
And in a moment they were swept before the deluge
Let the music keep our spirits high
Let the buildings keep our children dry
Let creation reveal its secrets by and by, by and by
When the light that's lost within us reaches the sky
    Some of them were angry
At the way the earth was abused
By the men who learned how to forge her beauty into power
And they struggled to protect her from them
    Only to be confused
By the magnitude of her fury in the final hour
And when the sand was gone and the time arrived
In the naked dawn only a few survived
And in attempts to understand a thing so simple and so huge
Believed that they were meant to live after the deluge
Let the music keep our spirits high
Let the buildings keep our children dry
Let creation reveal it's secrets by and by, by and by
When the light that's lost within us reaches the sky

THE soundtrack of my young adulthood in Los Angeles (when it was truly fun to live there). I love him and his musical legacy soooo much. I cry EVERY time I hear him. Had the privelege of sharing a joint with him in San Clemente in 1971. He and David Lindley were playing a tiny club there (and there were more people on the stage than in the audience, which included the club's owners). If I'd only fully realized at the time how fortunate I was to know his music so early on!

My all time favorite version of the masterpiece is still the No-Nukes concert from the mid-late 70's. David Linley blisters the fiddle break. Also a lot of stars in the early days, Bonnie Raitt, "Angle from Montgomery", Tom Petty does a gem on "Cry to Me", and Springsteen's medley brought his performance to areas that hadn't seen him perform.

It's like a spiritual paean to a certain time when seeking was almost like a new pilgrimage for many people. I'm 62, so I remember that time. Very deep song from the soul of Jackson Browne. I think his parents ere missionaries or something like that.
