My high school gym pipe in full sound of the local alternative FM station. That was a big deal in 1972. The stereo quality of the FM signal was nothing like broadcast rock & roll had enjoyed. We had arrived. I was a lousy basketball player, on a not much better team. But we worked hard. One wintry February late afternoon, I hung around after practice to shoot baskets when DOCTOR MY EYES filled the gym. It changed everything. Browne's creation, I would learn, was about a Vietnam veteran, suffering from the after effects of that jungle war. Brown inspired an entirely new perspective on that war for a teenage kid. I researched the Vietnam War and would create a photo slide/audio tape presentation that my highschool peers applauded. Now, I am an old man. I have made a go of being a filmmaker for almost 50 years. But when I hear Jackson first piano chords...I think of that kid in the highschool gym...forunate enough...to be in the right place at the right time.
I love all of Jackson's music, Running on Empty got played so many times on my motorcycle crossing the country back in 78, I was 21 and I call the road my own. Some of the best times in my life riding that summer.
Just heard that David Lindley passed . He was a great musician! May he rest in peace. You had a wonderful partnership and made fantastic music that people will enjoy forever!
Along with Jackson, these are some amazing and talented musicians. And the best part of all is that they all seem to be having fun and enjoying each others’ outstanding blend of energy. Just WOW.

Peace Be With You, Jeff Young and David Lindley. Days apart... heart gutted. My thoughts are with all who knew and loved them, especially you, Jackson! 💔
Jackson Browne, an amazing singer-songwriter, shoots straight for the soul & gets me every time! Used to pass notes in 1979 (senior year) to a classmate in history class - of course, with all his lyrics. Seen you many times at Telluride, CO & in Denver. If this 60 yr. old body can get well & walk again I'll be in Salt Lake for Jackson & JT! All prayers will be appreciated!
So many years ago...but still what an incredible rockin' groove...Jackson's formula...pedal steel...Hammond B3...bass/drum pocket...keys...liquid honey vocal harmonies...take it higher lead guitar, dirty, clean, wah...thank you Jackson, so much pleasure and joy storytelling...and all one masterful voice.
As a very young kid of the 70's People called me an old soul People said I was before my time I said Clyde Jackson Browne brought me here My happy place listening to CJB His music is the sound track of my life
I was 16 years young when this song came out. I knew I had a crush on Jackson Browne the first time I heard his song. That crush is still there and I am now 67 years old. Thank you Mr Browne for sharing your talent with us and giving us so many good tunes and so many good memories with your songs. I wish I could have met you or even went to one of your concerts but I never did. Now I am not healthy enough but thank goodness I still have my eye sight and my hearing to still enjoy your precious songs.
David Lindley, the king of plaid, is the freakin Man...My dad introduced me too him when I was a teenager, my Dad(Larry Brown Luthier) was a known Luthier in Los Angeles. Saw him play solo at McCabe's just wonderful.
It is so good, on this almost-spring-like day, sun shining, to see and hear a happy throng of people digging righteous rock ‘n roll all packed together - everyone together in the moment. Hope for the day to come when we can get together again and show love. Hang on, everyone. That day will come.🌻
The lyrics to this song made me cry today- not just losing Dave( altho, that's huge and am still sore) but every single word of this song is SPOT ON. Just killer, JB. Perfect timing.;)
Did you notice the nod of approval on both Jackson and the bass player! As to say ,yea that's sounds pretty good! On one of the most talked about solos from the fabulous 70's!! Man that stuff was so so good!!!
J.E.D. Jackson Browne said the solo on the album was the only time Jesse played it, recorded it and that was basically it. He was Native American and one of the Natives that rocked the world. Rod Stewart ruined him then John Trudell helped him to get sober. RUMBLE: The Indians That Rocked The World. RECOMMEND EVERYONE WATCH IT.

Damn ! This gave me goosebumps and damn near put a tear in my eye because I ve missed the concert vibe soooooooo much this past year . Nuthin’ like that energy in my entire world. The best ? The Capitol Theatre in Portchester NY - making my way through the crowd to just about 5 feet from JB , and Larry &Teresa Campbell on stage - and being able to sing and jam my little heart out with them , all in a moment I can only describe as perhaps a fleeting glimpse of heaven forever imprinted in my soul . What a rush ☺️
Thank you, Jackson Browne. I'm glad you were born. I'm grateful you've shared your gifts with us. You're a vision to look at, too. God might have been showing off just a bit when he made you. May you be blessed all of your days. ❤️🎶❤️🎵
Didn’t make Glastonbury but got to the see, hear and delight at the same set + a bit more at Cornbury. JB is live blood to me. This line up were superb. Many thanks to you all. 🌍🌈
Great performance. It's kind of weird that I recall exactly where I was when I heard this song for the first time, riding in the back seat of a friend's car on the way home from school, in Oregon, Ohio, as we passed in front of the hospital I was born in. I had seen the LP at K-Mart just up the road and had been intrigued with it... I loved the cover art, I'd seen the musician credits (David Crosby, Graham Nash, et al), and was tempted to buy it but... didn't. Then I heard this song on that car radio and that cinched it. It's surely one of those songs that Jackson has-at various times-gotten sick of singing, but it's just... so... brilliant.
@Clyde Jackson Browne Hello and thanks for the reply. I am currently watching these pitiful Grammy Awards. Nothing like the olds days that's for sure. I'm almost certain this is not JB. but, thanks just the same. Not sure I will respond to your Gmail acct., either. JB all you are now, have been in the past, smh. The gentleman playing the lap steel is no longer with us. Farewell Mr. Lindley, an absolute virtuoso in the truest sense.
I loved David...his music and sense of humor....
Also my friend Jeff Young (organ) is not with us anymore, Its a shame, but we keep in our memories.
Oh...,he's with us alright...,
who is the guitar player..?
There aren’t many upsides to being old, but being alive and in college when Jackson Browne gave the world this masterpiece is one of them.
That is THE upside!
I'll bet
Perfectly said.
Knowledge and wisdom is the upside of being old.
