There aren’t many upsides to being old, but being alive and in college when Jackson Browne gave the world this masterpiece is one of them.

My high school gym pipe in full sound of the local alternative FM station. That was a big deal in 1972. The stereo quality of the FM signal was nothing like broadcast rock & roll had enjoyed. We had arrived. I was a lousy basketball player, on a not much better team. But we worked hard. One wintry February late afternoon, I hung around after practice to shoot baskets when DOCTOR MY EYES filled the gym. It changed everything. Browne's creation, I would learn, was about a Vietnam veteran, suffering from the after effects of that jungle war. Brown inspired an entirely new perspective on that war for a teenage kid. I researched the Vietnam War and would create a photo slide/audio tape presentation that my highschool peers applauded. Now, I am an old man. I have made a go of being a filmmaker for almost 50 years. But when I hear Jackson first piano chords...I think of that kid in the highschool gym...forunate enough...to be in the right place at the right time.

Jackson Browne, an amazing singer-songwriter, shoots straight for the soul & gets me every time! Used to pass notes in 1979 (senior year) to a classmate in history class - of course, with all his lyrics. Seen you many times at Telluride, CO & in Denver. If this 60 yr. old body can get well & walk again I'll be in Salt Lake for Jackson & JT! All prayers will be appreciated!

@Clyde Jackson Browne Hello and thanks for the reply. I am currently watching these pitiful Grammy Awards. Nothing like the olds days that's for sure. I'm almost certain this is not JB. but, thanks just the same. Not sure I will respond to your Gmail acct., either. JB all you are now, have been in the past, smh. Just a wonderful part of my musical inspiration and my life. Your soulful thoughts of our existence and what is, could have been, and what it should be. Seems to me people are clueless on what truly matters. Its hard to maintain thoughtful ness I seem to be running out of patience. As I am on my last chapter of life. That's the whole deal. We live daily and it boils down to 2 simple words, cuts to the chase. My Husband wrote this song before he passed in 2008 at 51. Its called 'What Matters'. Way to young to die we were together 33 years. My life has not been the same since. I come looking for you just about every day. We played a lot of your music. Harmonies galore. Love them all. I am waiting for you to come to central Florida. I will be there with bells on. I'm officially a Medicare recipient as of 2 days ago. Seems the older I get the faster its going.
You are an amazing soul and Libra born the day be for my son. At least this is the assumption I have come to believe over the years. I just love everything you have chosen to share with the public. I hope to some day actually meet you, at least see you in concert. I cannot imagine you changing very much in person. Not with all your intellect, empathy, awareness, and many more traits you have shared with us over all these years. I saw your acceptance speech to the R n R Hall of Fame I watch it many times over. You are the real deal. Thank you for "you" 🎵💓🎸✌appreciate your reply if this is actually you. Loved your Grampa's house wow. I hope that House stays in your family for many many years. What a inspiration the stones alone would give me a million thoughts to write about. Very lucky man you are. God bless you and Deanna your entire family. I Will be watching for you to come pass my way. You were here a few years ago at Ruth Eckert Hall. That's only a 4000 seat theater I would try the Mahaffy theater or the State Theater in St Petersburg. I'm certain you would sell out both. Shows. All the best to you and yours!💓

Great performance. It's kind of weird that I recall exactly where I was when I heard this song for the first time, riding in the back seat of a friend's car on the way home from school, in Oregon, Ohio, as we passed in front of the hospital I was born in. I had seen the LP at K-Mart just up the road and had been intrigued with it... I loved the cover art, I'd seen the musician credits (David Crosby, Graham Nash, et al), and was tempted to buy it but... didn't. Then I heard this song on that car radio and that cinched it.
It's surely one of those songs that Jackson has-at various times-gotten sick of singing, but it's just... so... brilliant.

The Capitol Theatre in Portchester NY - making my way through the crowd to just about 5 feet from JB , and Larry &Teresa Campbell on stage - and being able to sing and jam my little heart out with them , all in a moment I can only describe as perhaps a fleeting glimpse of heaven forever imprinted in my soul . I have to listen to you almost daily now because I pray for you also and when you got the covid so early in the game.. so to speak, I just had to take a personal interest in your health, but you have kept me lifted so much more than I could ever really relay in words that could truly Express the realness and/or depth of it. But so very very many partial sentences even, have done more for me than I can even comprehend! You truly are the best though anyway. I saw you several times in Ohio at Blossom Music Center, and you were just so so cool & laid back like no others.. and come on now, who else ever gives three encores -each time I've seen you!! And Now we have the internet with TH-cam! So I will let the music keep my spirits High .. God bless you in so many ways!! PS. I want to add that it really trips me out how prophetic your songs are that I am learning are older than I would have imagined, and the words and phrases to do with things political and destructive to our environment, well our whole world actually -but I just wanted to add that, and please know that I think & totally believe that you truly are the #1 best, Plus you are truly amazing!! 😄 XOXOX

J.E.D. Jackson Browne said the solo on the album was the only time Jesse played it, recorded it and that was basically it. He was Native American and one of the Natives that rocked the world. Rod Stewart ruined him then John Trudell helped him to get sober. RUMBLE: The Indians That Rocked The World. RECOMMEND EVERYONE WATCH IT.
