LYRICS:
Doctor, my eyes have seen the years
And the slow parade of fears without crying
Now I want to understand
I have done all that I could
To see the evil and the good without hiding
You must help me if you can
Doctor, my eyes
Tell me what is wrong
Was I unwise to leave them open for so long
As I have wandered through this world
And as each moment has unfurled
I've been waiting to awaken from these dreams
People go just where they will
I never noticed them until I got this feeling
That it's later than it seems
Doctor, my eyes
Tell me what you see
I hear their cries
Just say if it's too late for me
Doctor, my eyes
They cannot see the sky
Is this the prize
For having learned how not to cry

I still get a chill when I hear those opening cords. 49 years of the best music ever.
My uncle dannys influece
@Vickie Miske - Well put.
Yep
Me too 😢 I want to go back
@@sallym5828 Don't we all love.
The gentleman playing the lap steel is no longer with us. Farewell Mr. Lindley, an absolute virtuoso in the truest sense.
I loved David...his music and sense of humor....
Also my friend Jeff Young (organ) is not with us anymore, Its a shame, but we keep in our memories.
what drumming! what a guitar solo! what everybody else! And that on top of an amazing song, complete with Jackson singing it. Wow.
Along with Jackson, these are some amazing and talented musicians. And the best part of all is that they all seem to be having fun and enjoying each others’ outstanding blend of energy. Just WOW.
As a very young kid of the 70's
People called me an old soul
People said I was before my time
I said Clyde Jackson Browne brought me here
My happy place listening to CJB
His music is the sound track of my life
The more things change....
Looking Into You ....quite the underrated B side
Thank You Jackson 🙏🎯
It's 5 in the morning can't sleep found this... wow
Legendary song and legendary singer.
There aren’t many upsides to being old, but being alive and in college when Jackson Browne gave the world this masterpiece is one of them.
That is THE upside!
I'll bet
Perfectly said.
Knowledge and wisdom is the upside of being old.
Senior coffee...
My #1 go to artist. Thank you so much, Jackson and David.
Another Favorite- until the next one comes !
Best Wishes ♥️
Great live performance , also David Lindley on lap steel- slide guitar royalty
Needed Leland badly
Smokin' hot guitar lead - WOW!!
Incredible! Slide and outro solo were amazing! 😁👍
Still a great song to listen to. Had to much fun back in the 70’s..
David Lindley!
Fabulous. Thanks for the memories!
Always ❤❤❤❤❤🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🌟

I love you Jackson Browne!
@Clyde Jackson Browne OMG, thank you for your reply! And thank you so much for the support you have given me. I have to listen to you almost daily now because I pray for you also and when you got the covid so early in the game.. so to speak, I just had to take a personal interest in your health, but you have kept me lifted so much more than I could ever really relay in words that could truly Express the realness and/or depth of it. But so very very many partial sentences even, have done more for me than I can even comprehend! You truly are the best though anyway. I saw you several times in Ohio at Blossom Music Center, and you were just so so cool & laid back like no others.. and come on now, who else ever gives three encores -each time I've seen you!! And Now we have the internet with TH-cam! So I will let the music keep my spirits High .. God bless you in so many ways!! PS. I want to add that it really trips me out how prophetic your songs are that I am learning are older than I would have imagined, and the words and phrases to do with things political and destructive to our environment, well our whole world actually -but I just wanted to add that, and please know that I think & totally believe that you truly are the #1 best, Plus you are truly amazing!! 😄 XOXOX
Absolutely wonderful and a timeless classic. Thanks for the Friday morning pick me up ☺️
Nice song ,Doctor my eyes,.. Jackson....👍
oh this is great .
Still resonating even in 2021 regardless of the pandemic.
Nobody Does it Better Than David Lindley love you Jackson
David Lyndley makes that band. His leads fill everything out. Rock and roll baby!

Nice clean finish
Jackson, come play Ventura Fairgrounds. Concerts in your car are great Fun!!!!
Awesome guitar, drums and keyboard. Jackson is cooler than dry ice.
I Saw JB at Sandstone in KC best concert I've been 2 yet
They all still had it in 2010
One town away from Holmdel - a basement full of guitars - you are always welcome !!!
Lindley as cool as ever
and David Lindley on lap steel!!
Doctor, my eyes tell me
What is wrong
Was I unwise
To leave them open for so long
🌎
In my personal opinion, Jackson Browne is good at singing.
Mr. Polyester doin'his thang behind Jackson. Long live David Lindley!
Great vibe and musicianship. When will Jackson team up with Neil Young for an acoustic tour? That would be mind blowing.😀
69 and love it
❤️🎶
seeing this would alter my brain chemistry
you were so close to me then :)
Seems many in the audience didn't know his greatest song. I guess we're getting older

Come on fans of Brown, DANCE!!!!!!
Browne!!!!! Oops.
Kinda proud seeing the Welsh flag flowing
What kinda guitar is he playing?
I'm missing that Sklar bass
--- I do dig Jackson Browne ❤️- babe I will help you -- 💋👈
First time the camera went to the drummer I could have sworn it was Ben Affleck, it took until the second time around for me to see it wasn’t 😂
After the death of his mother's son I herd Jackson brown zoned him self into the Pennsylvania institute philadelphia
Cody Jinks, Headcase brought me here
Love me some JB...but it needed Leland Sklar's rocking bass!!!
no not to late for U honey
Damn, Jackson seems to have forgotten that the Kongas drove the entire FEEL of the song. But otherwise awesome.
wird kein woodstock mehr draus aber der Mann an der steelguitar hat die Ruhe weg 👍 good music but the doctor came to late for the corona victims...
Nice to see they have a terrorist banner right in front of the bandstand. Greenpeace is a wicked origination that murders fishermen and hurts the Earth more than it helps it.
The bass player sucks, he doesn't even know the song. He's playing eighth notes on the root thru the chorus. Wrong!
However, the lead guitarist and drummer are top notch professionals! I am very impressed with them.
Not a very good acoustic production.
The guitar player butchered th solo
No way bro! It's all there mate
Such crap. No originalty. It sounds like a hundred other bland songs from that era.
64 years young and I'm still listening in 2024!🙏👋😎👍🙏
❤️🎶
And that, boys and girls, is what it sounds like when a bunch of master craftsmen go to work.
I love all of Jackson's music, Running on Empty got played so many times on my motorcycle crossing the country back in 78, I was 21 and I call the road my own. Some of the best times in my life riding that summer.
Hey Bill, love from Hamburg Germany 👍❣
Cool Bangkok Bill!!! Same here. Good days!!! All the best from Canada, Bill!!! 🌟🌟🌟
You only live once, great time (70s) music ! I remember that life!!😮😮🎉
Jackson, that's one of my favorite tunes of all time
The solo by Jesse Davis is one of my all time favorites,as is this song.

yes that Davis was so tasty. I had looked it up to see who that was years ago. Really fit with the song meaning.
Yeah man that was one all time really Fucking tasty solo and that's coming from one of the best unknown guitar players ever!!
nobody comes close to playing that lead break,
One take I've heard. My fave solo
Just heard that David Lindley passed . He was a great musician! May he rest in peace. You had a wonderful partnership and made fantastic music that people will enjoy forever!
It is so good, on this almost-spring-like day, sun shining, to see and hear a happy throng of people digging righteous rock ‘n roll all packed together - everyone together in the moment. Hope for the day to come when we can get together again and show love. Hang on, everyone. That day will come.🌻
It's a beautiful day here in south west Florida. A almost perfect day.
So many years ago...but still what an incredible rockin' groove...Jackson's formula...pedal steel...Hammond B3...bass/drum pocket...keys...liquid honey vocal harmonies...take it higher lead guitar, dirty, clean, wah...thank you Jackson, so much pleasure and joy storytelling...and all one masterful voice.
So glad Jackson’s tweet just sent me here.
I just got this at 6:30 EST 12 March.
Peace Be With You, Jeff Young and David Lindley. Days apart... heart gutted. My thoughts are with all who knew and loved them, especially you, Jackson! 💔
Timeless.
When the world gets on my last nerve, I go listen again.
Bless you and yours Jackson.
Wado (thank you)

Mark Goldenberg is awesome!!! Great solo!!! 👍🌟👏
David Lindley, the king of plaid, is the freakin Man...My dad introduced me too him when I was a teenager, my Dad(Larry Brown Luthier) was a known Luthier in Los Angeles. Saw him play solo at McCabe's just wonderful.
My high school gym pipe in full sound of the local alternative FM station. That was a big deal in 1972. The stereo quality of the FM signal was nothing like broadcast rock & roll had enjoyed. We had arrived. I was a lousy basketball player, on a not much better team. But we worked hard. One wintry February late afternoon, I hung around after practice to shoot baskets when DOCTOR MY EYES filled the gym. It changed everything. Browne's creation, I would learn, was about a Vietnam veteran, suffering from the after effects of that jungle war. Brown inspired an entirely new perspective on that war for a teenage kid. I researched the Vietnam War and would create a photo slide/audio tape presentation that my highschool peers applauded. Now, I am an old man. I have made a go of being a filmmaker for almost 50 years. But when I hear Jackson first piano chords...I think of that kid in the highschool gym...forunate enough...to be in the right place at the right time.
Thanks for sharing...
All the love for sharing this experience ❤❤❤❤❤
Jackson will forever and always be my favorite artist of all time
👍
I really nice version but I really miss the Jesse Ed sig solo.
Saw him live in early 1970’s 😎💕🩷 still a favorite experience 👏👏👏👏
Didn’t make Glastonbury but got to the see, hear and delight at the same set + a bit more at Cornbury. JB is live blood to me. This line up were superb. Many thanks to you all. 🌍🌈
J.E.D. Jackson Browne said the solo on the album was the only time Jesse played it, recorded it and that was basically it. He was Native American and one of the Natives that rocked the world. Rod Stewart ruined him then John Trudell helped him to get sober. RUMBLE: The Indians That Rocked The World. RECOMMEND EVERYONE WATCH IT.

Thanks for sharing! In the last year without concerts... you have been a major force in keeping me sane!
I concur.. I am much younger, but resonated quickly with the lyric.. Soul tribes, will never be lost..
Hello 👋 😊
The lyrics to this song made me cry today- not just losing Dave( altho, that's huge and am still sore) but every single word of this song is SPOT ON. Just killer, JB. Perfect timing.;)
I'm 63 and have always loved this song...Thank You
One of the best songwriters ever!
Mr. Lindleys slide still sends chills up my spine. Great mix my Gentleman Jim Geddes too...
I love you Jackson Browne! Those beautiful lips and lovely lyrics flowing from them melts my soul! The best ever! 4ever"mylove I love you!❤
There is something about this song, band, and just everything that is so good.
Did you notice the nod of approval on both Jackson and the bass player! As to say ,yea that's sounds pretty good! On one of the most talked about solos from the fabulous 70's!! Man that stuff was so so good!!!
Jackson brown gave the eagles his leftovers and even they became popular thanks to him. Just sayin
Jackson Browne is my all time favorite artist! I’ve been a fan for 40+ years! 👏🤟❤️
Im sorry but I prefer Leland's bassline 1000x better
Didn’t notice the Greenpeace sign. Ruined the song!
Thank you, Jackson Browne. I'm glad you were born. I'm grateful you've shared your gifts with us. You're a vision to look at, too. God might have been showing off just a bit when he made you. May you be blessed all of your days. ❤️🎶❤️🎵
Such a treat to have Jackson Browne sing me awake this morning!!! ❤️

I bet you can’t wait to get back on the road performing JB! This staying indoors is for the birds. Hang in there buddy...
Great performance. It's kind of weird that I recall exactly where I was when I heard this song for the first time, riding in the back seat of a friend's car on the way home from school, in Oregon, Ohio, as we passed in front of the hospital I was born in. I had seen the LP at K-Mart just up the road and had been intrigued with it... I loved the cover art, I'd seen the musician credits (David Crosby, Graham Nash, et al), and was tempted to buy it but... didn't. Then I heard this song on that car radio and that cinched it.
It's surely one of those songs that Jackson has-at various times-gotten sick of singing, but it's just... so... brilliant.
