For Jackson, I'm pretty sure one of the greatest benefits of playing so much with David was that, no matter how many times they played the same song to different audiences, David would play something new, great, unexpected, appropriate, and inspiring. Feel free to add your own adjectives.
One of the all time greatest duos ever, Browne and Lindley. JB is the quintessential singer/songwriter and Lindley is a band all by himself. Thanks for putting this up and may their music live forever!
Lindsey’s input always takes it to a higher level. Foreground, middle ground or background it just adds emotion for me. This audience just soak it up, no pointless hooting and hollering until it’s over.
i am listening to JB and DL for more than 4 decades. great lyrics, jackson´s way to play the guitar, and david´s extremely warm and distinguished pedal steel.. simply wonderful.
Great song!! The great song poet !! No matter how fast I run I can never seem to get away from me..... no matter where I am I can't help thinking I'm just a day away from where I want to be...
These words touch your soul. "Close your eyes, and try a few of these" I thought I was flying like a bird So far above my sorrow But when I looked down I was standing on my knees Now I need someone to help me Someone to help me please
It also refers to the innefrctiveness of drugs or alcohol for example, whenever you're feeling down. In the end it may feel like you're happier, but ultimately you're standing on your knees, crying for help.
I'm sitting down by the highway Down by that highway side Everybody's going somewhere Riding just as fast as they can ride I guess they've got a lot to do Before they can rest assured Their lives are justified Pray to God for me baby He can let me slide 'Cause I've been up and down this highway Far as my eyes can see No matter how fast I run I can never seem to get away from me No matter where I am I can't help thinking I'm just a day away From where I want to be Now I'm running home, baby Like a river to the sea Baby, if you can see me Out across this wilderness There's just one thing I was hoping you might guess Baby you can free me All in the power of your sweet tenderness Yeah (yeah) Well, I can see it in your eyes You've got those bright baby blues You don't see what you've got to gain But you don't like to lose You watch yourself from the sidelines Like your life is a game you don't mind playing To keep yourself amused I don't mean to be cruel, baby But you're looking confused Baby if you can hear me Turn down your radio There's just one thing I want you to know When you've been near me I've felt the love stirring in my soul Yeah (yeah) Yes I have It's so hard to come by That feeling of peace This friend of mine said: "Close your eyes, and try a few of these" I thought I was flying like a bird So far above my sorrow But when I looked down I was standing on my knees Now I need someone to help me Someone to help me please Baby, if you need me Like I know I need you There's just one thing I'll ask you to do Take my hand and lead me To the hole in your garden wall And pull me through
Possibly Jackson's best song ever.. But it's a tough call. He has so many great ones. The Pretender, These Days, Jamaica, that one about dying men draw numbers in the air... so many great, great songs.
Listening to this on 16 December 2022 - as relevant now as ever - indeed as I get older, and despite both success in business over the years and disappointment in relationships, I realise that, regardless of who, what and where I am, I look down and I am standing on my knees. Won't someone take my hand and lead me to the Promised Land
I was there at the front, bunch of my mates who had never saw JB before said how much they enjoyed him, and I got his playlist from his acoustic show on the last night. Best time of my life Glastonbury
ya, soothing to the soul, I am having a second love affair with his music - it's like, he's a two-legged, walking sheet of musical notes, with sound no less!
He's always been such a great songwriter - a true poet - but songs like these, when he was young and becoming aware, are just beyond great. What a great lyric and song, and with Lindley and I think that's Kortchmar as well. Just - no words. An American treasure.
It's comforting and re-assuring that Mr. Lindley has lost none of his chops nor his impeccable, polyester panache. and Mr. Browne don't sound half-bad either.
Omg, I Frei so cheated, having such an awesome man be in LOVE with me: while I'm soooo self centered I let him go by. And that she would settle with a drummer for a night, throwing her would be FUTURE, back in his face. I don't want to remember anymore, Clyde, I'M SO SORRY, 😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥
R.i.p. David Lindley. 3 March, 2023. The music lives on! Thank you sir.
One of the greatest. Amen.
For Jackson, I'm pretty sure one of the greatest benefits of playing so much with David was that, no matter how many times they played the same song to different audiences, David would play something new, great, unexpected, appropriate, and inspiring. Feel free to add your own adjectives.
God bless David Lindley. R.I.P.
As great as this live version is, the studio cut with Lowell on vocals and slide is way up there among the greatest recordings. What a song.
One of the all time greatest duos ever, Browne and Lindley. JB is the quintessential singer/songwriter and Lindley is a band all by himself. Thanks for putting this up and may their music live forever!
David Lindley, an unsung Legend.
Wow!!! Classic song...wonderful slide-guitar by David Lindley! Thanks Jackson for your music!
This makes me happy, somedays a little sad like I’m missing someone. David Lindley was a quite genius.
I’ve loved JB since I was 14 and he hasn’t lost a beat! Still love him!!!!!
Lindley adds so much to Jackson's core brilliance
Jackson, you did save my life...
Long time ago
THANK YOU ♡♡♡
Me too
RIP David Lindley
Lindsey’s input always takes it to a higher level. Foreground, middle ground or background it just adds emotion for me. This audience just soak it up, no pointless hooting and hollering until it’s over.
I prefer waiting between songs before expressing any emotion also, when I'm at home, alone.
And they all know the words ✌️
A frickin masterpiece is an understatement. The lyrics/harmony/slide/phrasing. JB is the man!!
An absolutely classic combination of Browne and Lindley!
i am listening to JB and DL for more than 4 decades. great lyrics, jackson´s way to play the guitar, and david´s extremely warm and distinguished pedal steel.. simply wonderful.
Great song!! The great song poet !! No matter how fast I run I can never seem to get away from me..... no matter where I am I can't help thinking I'm just a day away from where I want to be...
These words touch your soul.
"Close your eyes, and try a few of these"
I thought I was flying like a bird
So far above my sorrow
But when I looked down
I was standing on my knees
Now I need someone to help me
Someone to help me please
That lyric always stood out for me as well - reminds me of a man in recovery, on his knees asking his Higher Power for help.
It also refers to the innefrctiveness of drugs or alcohol for example, whenever you're feeling down. In the end it may feel like you're happier, but ultimately you're standing on your knees, crying for help.
RIP David and Jeff 💔😢🎶
David Lindley RIP
Thank you for sharing this amazing version. The older I get the more I appreciate Jackson Browne's poetry...
I'm sitting down by the highway
Down by that highway side
Everybody's going somewhere
Riding just as fast as they can ride
I guess they've got a lot to do
Before they can rest assured
Their lives are justified
Pray to God for me baby
He can let me slide
'Cause I've been up and down this highway
Far as my eyes can see
No matter how fast I run
I can never seem to get away from me
No matter where I am
I can't help thinking I'm just a day away
From where I want to be
Now I'm running home, baby
Like a river to the sea
Baby, if you can see me
Out across this wilderness
There's just one thing
I was hoping you might guess
Baby you can free me
All in the power of your sweet tenderness
Yeah (yeah)
Well, I can see it in your eyes
You've got those bright baby blues
You don't see what you've got to gain
But you don't like to lose
You watch yourself from the sidelines
Like your life is a game you don't mind playing
To keep yourself amused
I don't mean to be cruel, baby
But you're looking confused
Baby if you can hear me
Turn down your radio
There's just one thing
I want you to know
When you've been near me
I've felt the love stirring in my soul
Yeah (yeah)
Yes I have
It's so hard to come by
That feeling of peace
This friend of mine said:
"Close your eyes, and try a few of these"
I thought I was flying like a bird
So far above my sorrow
But when I looked down
I was standing on my knees
Now I need someone to help me
Someone to help me please
Baby, if you need me
Like I know I need you
There's just one thing
I'll ask you to do
Take my hand and lead me
To the hole in your garden wall
And pull me through

You nailed it. Pure poetry.
Definitely one of my favorites!
I’m alive
Masterpiece.
Among so many great Jackson Browne songs, this is my favourite; and this is the version I like best.
That was a master class in lap steel. Pure emotion expressed on a piece of wood and steel.
don't get no better than that so soothing to soul
+Jackie Isgrigg true
*raises glass* here here good sir

Absolutely adore this man!
30 years later I still know every word
I was there at the front, bunch of my mates who had never saw JB before said how much they enjoyed him, and I got his playlist from his acoustic show on the last night. Best time of my life Glastonbury
Loved that
I would love to see Jackson Brown just one time !! Love him so much ...
Find a way - anywhere, any time - always the best
Back in the good ol days!
This just kills me.. the BEST act on at the festival by a country mile. Majestic!
Oh no! I didn’t know David passed. 😢 but he will live on in the music!
One of my favorite songs 🎵 ❤
Best version of this song!😀
Great quality here.....thanks so much for sharing JB with me :)
Totally Amazing indeed
One of the best.
Where has this show been hiding? What a great clip!
Close your eyes, and try a few of these"
I thought I was flying like a bird
So far above my sorrow
But when I looked down
I was standing on my knees
Such a great song and love those lines..
ya, soothing to the soul, I am having a second love affair with his music - it's like, he's a two-legged, walking sheet of musical notes, with sound no less!
Me too. A second love affair with his music, rediscovered.

Just go ahead and hit repeat now.
Well that was a well done live version

My man!!!

Beauty is Truth….
An great yet under appreciated song by JB.
Class
I love JB 💞
It's comforting and re-assuring that Mr. Lindley has lost none of his chops nor his impeccable, polyester panache. and Mr. Browne don't sound half-bad either.
I fucking love Jackson Browne.....
Lowell George on slide on original studio version. Classic Lindley
Lowell George= straight up GENIUS
Anyone know where and year of this concert..beautifully delivered.. so much lite within him..thanks for this ..
Glastonbury Festival, UK, June 2010.
This was the best band on at Glastonbury by miles!
Mark Goldenberg on telecaster.
David Lindley had his ears calibrated to within half an atom of perfect pitch.
fucking EPIC!
That slide guitar makes me feel good.thats all.
Jeff Young and David Lindley : “Of Missing Persons”
Mark Goldenberg is awesome!! This was his best band!
David Lindley Jeff Young
I can not make a comment at this time as there is no sound. I checked volumn controls and everything is cool but still no sound. Any suggestions.
Jon Edwards how about now? Heard it yet?
sweet, show the rhythm guitarist during Lindley's solo.
is that the bass player from the Just Go With It movie
Ok, what is he doing here? Down-tuned or open-tuned, then capo 2 to get to an F?
Shelby Lynne wrote this 🤔?
Also, I might add, David is a screaming banshee on this.
I'M NOT CRAZY, IM RETARTED!!!!!! If I could only find a way to change the past, God, just take my .memories, away,NOW.
Please forgive me, Clyde.that few hours could of been making sweet love to you, instead of making out with a drummer.
Love you band. Maybe Mr. Jackson could wear a nicer outfit.
Lindley looks like something out of a Dickens novel. Take any hunk of wood with strings on it and he can play it better than you. I'm a fan.
Ah, which song are you referring to?✌
