Fabulous review, again, Joe! You are a very lucky person. This Subie is marvelous, I am so jealous, driving my bog-stock GG Impreza auto. I need an STI with the 'rumble'. Thanks, Shannon Harris
Maxime Le Camioneur I could care less about the rumble. That Cobb Turbo Inlet brought the turbo sounds to life. I love the ELH setup over stock. Much more mid/top end
Nicolas A Don’t you hear how aggressive that EJ257 is with the ELH? The rumble is just a characteristic sound resulting from an unaccounted engineering design. All the rally cars and built EJs do away with the rumble, because there’s this thing called efficiency. Rumble is cool and all, but you enjoy it while stock, and has nothing to do with performance, just noise. I used to own a FA WRX, fantastic car once you throw on a stage 0 tune and behaves a little bit like the old EJ255 (with the flash of course). I was referring to the distinct turbo spool Justin’s setup make, for instance at 10:44, very unique.
JSAFRIT1984 my guy! Yea that spool sounds is 👌.The ELH brings about efficiency and aggression, sounds so good! I bought a 19 STI series gray about a month ago. I can’t wait for the day I get to go stage 2 with a proper turbo, with the ELH of course lol, just like yours. Kicks ass! I threw on a awe catback and enjoying the rumble for now 😂. Your numbers are really impressive. Once you get that clutch and crank up the boost, FA owners gonna have a run for their money 😭Keep up the great work! And thanks for commenting Justin!👍👊
Nicolas A nothing wrong with that. Only way to get that rumble is to buy the STI or previous generation WRX. The twin scroll on the FA is meant for a ELH not the other way around. Thus no rumble 😢. Don’t let sound be a factor though. The FA20 like I said is a beast on its own too. Throw on a turbo back system and go stage 2, maybe e85, and you’ll have fun anytime of day. And it’s way cheaper compared to going stage 2 with an EJ25. I wish they kept the LSD on the rear differential. I was going to wait on the 2020/2021 STI with the rumored FA24, but look at what happened to the EVO. The last iteration got a newer and engine and everyone cried 😂. I speculate that they might do away with the rumble. Until then we shall see. Thanks for responding.
Nicolas A you got that right. The handling and control the STI puts to the ground is bar none. I had a ‘17 wrx DGM Base that I owned for about 1 year. Bought it used. Last February I crashed and the subie was totaled. Neglected to replace the Dunlop summer tires for the winter season, slid while driving too fast for conditions. Having paid considerably on it I was able to recoup most of the money from claims and invested towards the ‘19 STI. That 6-speed and mpg on the FA20 is bliss. I’m a Honda guy so the toy like gearbox shifting never bothered me a bit. The analog shifting you get from the STI is just like going through gears in a semi truck lol. Thanks for your time.
With all those mods and he’s still running the stock intercooler... I figured he would have gotten either a nice fmic or bigger tmic. But the build is awesome!! Those wheels 🤤🤤🤤
Agreed! A lot of people think they're sooo fast in a straight line, but can they stop or turn sharply? 🤷♂️ Also, you might wanna blur out the speedometer Joe. 🤫
Exterior mods are always subjective. Every owner likes their own thing. It's the performance mods that are worth mentioning though. 350 whp without a new clutch and only 18 boost, it sounds like the owner is still very ”conservative" 😉
great review once again man i love the modded cars you show and not just factory performance vehicles but cars that we all drive and mod the same way or have a goal to.Loce your genuine enthusiasm mate
Putting anything bigger than 18” rims on any of these Hot Hatches or smaller sedans is just plain overkill unless you live on a coast where potholes do not exist and even then 18”/19” rims still probably make more sense. People are downsizing to 18”s on their new Civic Type R’s from the stock 20” rim. From a daily ride perspective it just takes away the Butt Pucker facet completely. Nothing like driving around on 20”s knowing that at any moment a nice New Jersey Pothole can just take you out. 😅

That is a nicely built STi there JSAFRIT1984. I def missed the Subaru Forester as it had a few mods as well. Nothing too crazy just some bits of STi and WRX turbo bits and a tune from ECUTek. The engine was holding strong for 100k of driving but the auto gearbox finally gave up and we had to get rid of it. Prob something is still missing from the setup is the bright red STi front tower strut bar that is on older models of STi, the painted STi logo in the top mount intercooler. The exhaust is def loud but i think it needs to amplify the boxer rumble of the EJ25 which is easy with unequal length headers. I drove a WRX that has the Tein coilvers with EDFC active pro and it was a blast on the tracks like the Kuala Lumpur Sepang circuit. Its a pricey coilovers but helps with the handling greatly since it works like the active suspension you find in more expensive cars.

Lots of power and cosmetics, standard brakes are good, but virtually nothing with regard to upgrading/ strengthening the body, suspension and handling, e.g. strut tower brace, lateral links, etc.. Got keep that power on the road on both straight lines and round the curves! Might want to look at upgrading the clutch/flywheel and brake pads too., but maybe a bit hard for a daily drive.
@@jsafrit0717 Great to hear. When I drove and modified Ford Escorts back in the 1970's, we started off with upgrading the brakes, anti-dive kit, shocks and springs, transmission and clutch, in that order, and the last thing we played with was the engine. Hey Raiti, I still have the tS local if you wanted to look through it. It isn't stock (entirely) though!

Those side emblems are the JDMs. USDM are chrome.
Required watching for all STI owners
Thanks Daniel! That is so awesome of you to say!
12:24 thank me later. I can watch this all day on repeat.
S208 Richard she’ll get there, next step is coils, LCA’s, sway bars etc...
Great input!
I guess we will need to to a part 4! ;-)
@@jsafrit0717 Great to hear. When I drove and modified Ford Escorts back in the 1970's, we started off with upgrading the brakes, anti-dive kit, shocks and springs, transmission and clutch, in that order, and the last thing we played with was the engine. But have to admit that the WRX STI is a great platform to work with, and yours is looking good.
That looks AWESOME!!! 🤯
I’m such a big fan of those cars!!
You can say that again!

My dream car but it's so expensive.
You never know, keep working hard and before you know it you might end up with enough saved up to buy one.

Awww my Dude. You got his plate on video and the speedo when you were doing a Buck. I hope the 2 tones don't come for him.
This was all cleared.
How did it cost him to make it like this??
Being a guy who reviews modified cars, how is a stock Turbo/Block STI the fastest Subaru you have ever driven ?
