Yeah, we did a feather sexing on 9 we hatched out from mom. Saw 5 roos and 4 hens. Wound up with 3 roosters and 6 hens luckily. I have Lemon Cuckoo Orpingtons and the Buffs. Love them. Plus, I'll always have some leghorns around. Egg laying machines.
Hi Patera I know this video was from last year, I am so wanting some Black Copper Marans no one has them local by me 😢 may need to buy them from a hatchery.i love there dark chocolate eggs so cool. I did want to mention the Chicks I did buy yesterday are the Blue Orbingtons, mine are way darker though, and now my lavender Orbingtons looks like your blue. Also I think he gave me a Cocherol chick as well has feathers on his feet so cute it looks just like my Lavendar but with feathered feet. So I am excited.. Can't wait to see how they all look when they get big.. 👏🏻👏🏻😉🐣🐓
I gotta say, I've had 2 buff orpingtons from Mcmurray hatchery and I didn't like them. They were surprisingly pretty mean and flighty. I'm going to try some buff orpingtons from a breeder to see if they have better personalities than the hatchery stock
I have been unable to find the chicken probiotics. Where do you purchase them from? Are they specific to chickens or can I use a probiotic from the health food store?
Thanks for all of your videos. Maybe you can help me... I'm new to having chickens and I received 8 chicks on 4/24 and one little baby has been very lethargic. She has been separated. We have been feeding her with a syringe and when placed IN her food she will eat a little. She appears to have trouble standing but her legs don't look splayed apart. We placed her on a towel for more ease of walking but it looks like she cannot stand all the way up. I was figuring it was because she was too weak to do so. Poor thing is still very tiny. Do you have any ideas what this could be and how I can help her? She is pooping and I haven't noticed any blood. Also.. one of the others is a bully. She pecks at the others then WILL NOT let go. :( She too is segregated, she is in the same brooder box but on the other side of mesh wire. We put her together with one of the other girls yesterday and they did fine for a few hours but then she started again. Ahhhh.... Some people have questioned whether she is a he. I'm going to go check her wings now. Thanks for any help you or anyone else may offer.
i keep my chicks in a dog crate and three inch cardboard zip tied around the bottom , with that my cat is curious but if she steps out of line or get to zoned in on the chicks we tell her no and she runs off but it took a squirt bottle full of water the first couple of days and now i have a house chicken that was badly injured from a predator and now KIKI (cat) is fine but i dont ever leave them alone together unattended .
No biggie, Mama hen is sitting on 10 more and we'll try again lol. Where is your farm? We're in search of a PB Nubian buck to freshen our yearling does this autumn.

ANIMAL EXTRA FUN She has them, and so do I. I have 3, a Buff, a White (both hens) and a black Silkie rooster. My white silkie, Luna, has gone broody. She's sitting on 2 silkie eggs, (a buff and a white, both mixed with a black rooster) 2 Easter Egger eggs, (also mixed with a black Silkie rooster) and 2 duck eggs. The silkie eggs are on day 17! I'm so excited 😄
I'm pretty sure certain chicks can be sexed by the tip of their wings . . . females, on the tip of their wing, do not have fluff while males do. Is this the least bit true? I need to know! I don't live in the country so I can't be havin' a roo!

I love Orpingtons! The buff are my favorite! Even though lavender and blue are gorgeous! Just the gold coloring in the buffs is beautiful!

Can't rely on wing sexing. All 4 of our last chicks had alternating wing feathers....they wound up as 3 roosters and 1 hen.

Success! We got it right this time. Wing sexing showed 2 roosters and 6 hens and it was exactly right :)

If you don't have a silkies you should get a few they are will cute but they are bantams

Ruby's Zoo I have silkies hens and roosters and some sitting on nest. But I'm not sure how many silkie hens and roosters.
