A few of my elementary school classes incubated chickens in the classroom. Checking on the eggs every day and watching them hatch was the highlight of my elementary school years. I have never forgotten it.

At 75 years of age I'm attempting to hatch and raise my first chickens. I am so excited about it and going small, only 3-6 chicks. Thank you for the information you shared, just what I needed to know. I got most of my supplies from Amazon and Temu. Eggs came from a farmer on E-Bay. I cannot wait for my eggs to arrive!

When I decided I wanted to hatch eggs and started asking people questions it was so overwhelming all the different information people gave me. Everyone told me something different. The HatchMate has been perfect for me. Read the instruction manual cover to cover and did what it said and BOOM success. I tell people to just go for it and don’t get overwhelmed with all the different info. Great video Daniel!

    Hi everyone
Having a mower you enjoy makes cutting grass fun. A decade or so back I had a cool set up.
I’d go for a nice swim first. Get out hose off and start mowing. Kept going back and forth until the grass was all mowed. Of course hosing off after each switch.
Even at 100 degrees plus, I never got hot.
    Fun memories.
Hatched a few birds in my time too. I’m a animal lover!
    😻👍🤲

I`m happy people are rediscovering simple skills like that. I used to hatch chicks just for fun when I was a kid, my grandma used to do it all the time on her farm (pretty much every family had a small/medium size farms here in Poland back in the day, it wasn`t fun and games behind the iron curtain), so eggs were plenty. My first heartbreak happened when the goose that I hatched tasted my calf.... hurts to this day...

Back when Y2K was on the horizon, I got the little giant incubator and ordered a dozen heavy breed chicken eggs. It had no turner, so I had to turn the eggs manually. It was so exciting to watch the development of the chicks with a candler. I ended up with a pair of Turkens, 3 Barred Rocks, a Rhode Island Red and a few other breeds.

Great video… loved the whole process. Brooks is going to love her chicks. I really like the clear dome incubator, much more fun to be able to see/watch. How long can you ‘hold’ eggs before you start incubating them? It makes so much sense but I didn’t really know that the time to hatch is for incubation, not figured from the day the eggs was layer otherwise a chicken would be hatching a new chick everyday from her clutch. Yes, common sense but didn’t even think about that until recently. Thanks for sharing.

I keep my barn isle open for my horses and donkey to come in to avoid weather or just get out of the sun. But their stalls are not open. They only come in their stalls to eat. Now, if we are having severe weather (like a hurricane-east coast here), then I also leave their stall doors open. I never close them in so if they get spooked they can escape. I do put break-away halters on them and use livestock paint sticks to put my phone number on them. Just the way I do things.

I really enjoyed your explanation of how the hatching process works! When I was growing up, Daddy’s twin brother owned a hatchery. All I remember is getting to walk among the huge incubators - yep there were eggs in there. I remember watching Uncle Kenneth and Aunt Irene putting drops in the chicks eyes to vaccinate them. And what I really remember is that I should have said NO THANKS! when Uncle Kenneth asked if I wanted to go to the dump with him. You cannot imagine how awful a used school bus smells when it’s full of “used” egg shells.
Thanks for the show and tell!
