FYI: the "new" frontier actually sits on a modified version of the old frontier's frame. I guess if it isn't broken, don't fix it. The engine and transmission are carry overs from the 2020 frontier on which they debuted. The steering wheel is from the Titan, not the pathfinder.

@@drn13355 He's right. A lot of new trucks feel like driving a minivan. Take the F-150 Platinum. It even has a V6 like a minivan. Granted its twin turbo but it still feels and sounds like a minivan engine. It even rides and handles like a minivan. The upper trims of the Ram are a similar story. They feel really isolated from the road, boring to drive and loaded full of leather and screens. The new Tundra might as well be a Highlander. Even the Silverado has gotten really cushy, dull, and GMC Acadia-feeling.

Turned out to be a good choice and the V6 just keeps humming along. Fourteen years of normal maintenance, couple of sensors replaced, and just last week the airbag light came on. Otherwise the interior looks great as does the exterior after all this time, and start-ups are instant, and it simply does it's job.

@@H.E.PennyPackr can't speak for yourself. you might actually fit a Tacoma better on your needs. But I believe as a rule of thumb, most trucks are over specced for the majority of drivers. There is an insane number of people out there that don't need an F-150 but still decide to get one. They don't go off road, they dont tow up to 12,000 lbs (as advertised). Heck most of them don't tow period. But they are stuck with the big uncomfortable to drive truck in the city, spending a ton more on gas. I used to tow a little utility trailer with my Hyundai Elantra for years. Ridgeline covers my needs fully. It has the biggest cabin in its class and it drives the nicest on its class. I had the Tacoma when I was 23 and it was the best thing ever. But I could never imagine using now that I am 34 to transport my kids or go to work. Ridgeline fits my 2 kids with car seats perfectly. The bed is way more usable than all other trucks and the in bed trunk is gift from God. Especially if you are in construction and you have muddy equipment. Wash it off open the tap and let it drain. Best choice ever. Test drove f150s and didn't like the way they drive in town. Nice on the highway.

@@gamatoutsikos That’s an honest assessment of the truck market. Part of me wishes the Ridgeline was a little more capable (I tow 5k pounds regularly with my Grand Cherokee) but that would probably take away from what it’s best at and that’s light duty transportation with the occasional truck stuff rather than the other way around. That being said, when I do finally get a truck, I’m probably getting a 2500hd for work and trading the Grand Cherokee in for the new Honda Passport Trailsport.

I like the noise of the engine. Yes, I want that! I want to feel like I'm in a truck. I really wanted a Tacoma, but the sacrifices to match the price point of the fully loaded Pro-4X for a Tacoma made no sense to me. A fully loaded TRD-Pro Tacoma, is north of $70k, for a MID-SIZED PICKUP! Nothing the Tacoma offers warrants a $28-32k price increase over the Frontier. Everything Doug says is 100% valid, and as an owner, I can confirm all of it, and are there features or certain aspects I wish were "better", absolutely. But at $43k and change, I'm 1,000% happy with my purchase.

The Tacoma, and the Nissan are body on frame, which make them much “tougher” than the car based Maverick and Santa Cruz, hence the ride quality. The Rivian and Hunmer ride on battery packed underpinnings that also cause it to ride more “car like”.

The sv had some fat tires and small rims which allowed for decent traction with cheap all terrains. And the truck itself had some decent traction control, I could only imagine with a pro 4x and softer suspension and a bit more clearance. I was looking for a new mid size truck and set a budget of $40k. I went and test drove a frontier, ranger, Tacoma and Colorado all around the same price point and the frontier was by far the best option at that price. It rides and drives better than all the others and has way more features for the price. Also the interior quality is way better.
Comparing the ride quality to two crossovers with beds and two trucks that are over $100k seems pointless. Of course the $40k truck was more harsh to drive.

The fact that it looks and feels like a "proper" truck is probably going to be its best selling point. Comparing the Frontier to all the unibody "trucks", (Maverick, Santa Cruz, etc,) for interior space or ride feel isn't a fair comparison. :/

    • @desertfresh3740

He's saying how small the Frontier interior is compared to *smaller* trucks. Meaning the Frontier is not only small for its class, but small compared to *smaller* trucks.
The Ranger's interior is smaller than the Maverick's, but still larger than the Frontier.

Yup, this really bothered me. Those things are probably less capable than for purpose utes. Utes aren't trucks, regardless of body, bed. But here we are, lies sell better, so wagons play ugly dress up as SUVs, cars dressed up as trucks. "All the unibody trucks".... just two. The real competition here is the tacoma, ranger and colorado. I get it, an old school truck has its charm... but they're charging you like a new truck with new tech. The old feeling is not by design, it's because there's not much research. The body is heavy. The engine is old school so the I guess the mileage is not great. Those advancements matter. That's why the Ranger's 2.4 4cyl feels faster than this and is more fuel efficient.

  • @JointerMark

I think it has been forgotten what a pickup is meant for. It is meant to be a reliable affordable means to an end, not s showpiece or entertainment centre. Judging a truck isn't pretty enough or 'tough looking' enough is probably because the person judging it doesn't need a truck, but wants a truck for the image of being a truck owner. A truck should be able to haul stuff every time you need to haul stuff. Electronic gadgets including cameras and auto braking systems feed the marketing hype and jack up the cost of a vehicle unnecessarily. Trucks have mirrors, those who need trucks know how to use their mirrors. All this 'safety' equipment is electronic jewelry, paying attention to your driving is the most reliable safety feature. Give me an old school truck any day, especially if it comes with old school pricing...we pay a huge premium for stylish cars pretending to be trucks.

Because with other brands those types of stickers and related aspects of vehicles have been out of production for years and are brought back to match any particular models aesthetic in which are meant to be a nostalgic throwback. With Nissan that isn't the case because they're penny pinching and don't want to update it; case in point, they also used a nearly decade old steering wheel in an "all-new" vehicle. The tech should absolutely be better at that price range but the truth is that across the board …all options are lacking/not meeting our expectations on some level.

Nothing wrong with the steering wheel or the backup cam, This is a truck not a luxury car . It is meant to be functional capable durable for utility not for show off

I have a '15 Titan that had the same complaints about being around forever, but there's a benefit there, namely reliability. The frontiers and last gen Titans are bulletproof mostly because of the lack of whizz bang features that just become more crap to break and small tweaks to the engine and drivetrain vs huge leaps of faith every 4 yrs. I will admit 45k for that is a bit much but they will be a steal on the used market.

Yeah, the Frontier has never had the resale value of the Tacoma. I've had offers of 39k on my 2019 Tacoma from dealers despite it having 73k miles, I only paid 40k for it.

Toyotas have tons of tech in them, yet still manage to be rock solid reliable. You can have high tech and reliable if you know what you're doing and don't be cheapskates like Nissan and the US automakers.

@@mrvwbug4423 But the tundra has been blasted too for not keeping up with other trucks in terms of features, until this yr. I think Nissan waits too long but there was a time when every manufacturer went a while between major upgrades and the truck were better for it. But then again the new Titan is a turd and has all kinds of engine problems so maybe not. It's all a crap shoot at this point isn't it?

Doug - “The Nissan Frontier is a New Truck that feels Old”
Meanwhile in the Middle East - Old Nissan Batrols get sold as “New”…

These are selling well in my East Coast state. Like the Tacoma, the truckiness and blocky styling are features, not drawbacks.

Doug doesn't get trucks. Way faster than a Tacoma (23). The truck rides smooth and quiet
