I like the review (and turning radius is definitely the worst thing). But, as a 2022 frontier owner, I'm frustrated that off-road youtube reviewers don't understand the running boards. They're actually dual purpose rock rails with removable steps attached. If you're going to off-road this thing, take the steps off and the rock rail will help protect the truck without the loss of clearance.
I love the infotainment display, it's not overbearing, isn't required for most functions, and allows for still a majority of tactile buttons to be used over the touch screen. Very practical and a lot safer than some of the infotainment displays that displace safer buttons while driving. Have to give Nissan props for that.
I love mine, bought it last September. The 4wheel drive system does well in bad weather. I have to be honest, most of the issues that people seem to have with this truck don't apply to me. I'm not concerned about backup cameras or the most up-to-date technology. It's a pickup truck not a luxury vehicle luxury vehicle. If you want the finest luxuries get a sports car.
Nissan was almost a lost cause to me ditching all their offroad vehicles for cross overs sharing the names, and the full size thing is not for me at all, having yhe frontier go a decade with no refresh was starting to concern me as far as where nissan was going in the offroad world, this was a big step the right direction, now bring back the xterra!
I just bought one and absolutely love it so far. Its on-road manners are great (quiet, smooth shifting, no gear hunting), and off road it’s impressive.
Love my Pro4-x, it’s a 19, it’s got the 4.0, a little less MPG. Bought it with 7k miles, now I have about 21k after about 2 years of ownership, there is a reason NISSAN stuck with the same platform for 15 years and then barley changed their motor, to make it even better. I always have said the Frontier is the average man’s Tacoma, the Frontier really gained some traction with the new 22 and put it back on the map, great video man
@@alexgarcia3900 U maybe right but 15 years from now the Titans and frontiers will still be running while the big 3 garbage will be in the land fills 😂😂
@@mikeriv60 lol. Only time will tell, Nissans quality is no where near what it used to be, they're all ll fleet cars now. Trucks have been decent but who knows. Ever since Renault bought into Nissan in 99 it's been going down the drain.
I now have a 2021 Frontier. Had a 2010 frontier for 10 years. They are known for a poor turning radius. TFL did a test and a 4WD F-150 had a significantly tighter turning radius, and it tied a 4WD RAM 2500. Still love my truck. I had my 2010 off road numerous times and it ALWAYS took me wherever I wanted to go. I was tail end charlie on a group of 4x4 trucks. I kept having to stop at the bottom of an uphill to allow the guys in front of me to make it up the muddy roads, as even with all the latest tech ( I had the oldest vehicle in the 2010 ), they were spinning wheels and slinging mud everywhere. I was worried someone would get stuck in front of me. Once they got out of the way (barely in some cases), I'd kick it into 4 low, get it moving, and let it tootle on up the hill w/o all the wheel spinning. And I didn't even have the rear end locked. Surprised a guy that took that "road" regularly. I wouldn't get the running boards either. Those are for mall crawlers, not off road. I'd go with after market REAL rock sliders instead. Even with the steps off, they still reduce the clearance where honest to God rock sliders leave it almost the same. One of my son's has a lifted 2019 4WD F-150. We went elk hunting here in Colorado, and he was shocked at how sure footed that little truck was. I went places w/o question that he admitted he'd have had second thoughts about taking his truck. Never had to engage the locker. My oldest son was so impressed by my old Frontier that he bought a 2022 when they came out.
having a huge truck in the backroads is a hit and miss due to the space you need to get thru some areas with heavy bushes or groups of small trees and giant dirt pot holes and the worst: a 3ft mound with rocks that can take out your transmission. A smaller trucks light weight makes those problems more bearable, where in a larger truck youd get stuck in the mountains due to weight issues.
I have the 2023 Baja Storm 4X and I love it! I had a 2002 Silverado 4x4 for 20 years and it was in my opinion irreplaceable. I was wrong, my son has that truck now and I have this. My only complaint is that there is NO telescoping steering wheel (I am 6'4"). But hey small price to pay for a non turbo charged modern V6. I despise turbos as I see them come through my shop constantly for overheats, block issues etc... Glad I was able to snatch this little beauty up. I'm almost 50 now so this will be the last truck I buy. It will become an heirloom IMO.
Really? because I have had my Ranger blasting in the mountains of Wyoming with zero issues. Personally I would never ever go back to a NA engine. The resposnvness is off the chain and at elevation it doesn't turn to a gasping POS like my Taco V6 did. I love the liars on you tube "constantly" breaking. Ok dude.
Great review! I own the truck and love it. I average 19 mpg, and really I drive 80-90 on the hwy so I’m sure it would be better if I slow down. It is annoying that only the drivers window is automatic, and the cameras are terrible as you mentioned. Just a pro tip? The steps on the step-ups are removable, making them more like rock rails and giving you the ground clearance back!
Wow mpg is terrible.. lol.. was thinking of downsizing my f150 but i get about 23mpg in that at 75-80mph and thats a supercrew 6ft bed 4x4 with the 5.0
I just traded in my 2020 Ranger XLT on a 2022 Pro 4X. What a deal and upgrade in amenities and ride quality. This is my 14th Nissan and my dealer did not charge a Market Adjustment.
Great video and great truck. That's the truck's truck in fact. It went so easily over those very slippery obstacles vs the Tacoma or any other true offroader you went up there with. Now, imagine if in Nissan infinite knowledge they would bring back the X-Terra based on that platform. It would probably steal the show imo.
The Nissan is a badass truck but when I think it comes to R&D it's hard to beat Toyota Tacoma they're both very good trucks it just depends what you like. My buddy has the 13 pro-4x with only 30,000 miles he's the original owner that truck is so nice. I prefer simple older shit that's why I bought a 22
Toyota Tacoma 6-speed manual, I feel that that is the oldest/new midsize 🛻💨 I could find but it's people like that Nissan good on them because I think it's kick ass also
Solid 2-man crew/one man show video content. From my visits to Oregon mostly and some Washington State they go overboard there on stripping large sections of forest where it looks like a small nuclear weapon went off or a 5 mile wide F-5 tornado came through. I found it tragic and disturbing the stripping of the land/resources.
The step portion is removable on those running boards, leaving only a rock rail. A lot of reviewers whine about them, but I don't think they realize that the steps are designed to be removed when off-roading.
Great video, especially, the off-reading portion. I found the use of the 4L, locker, etc buttons more understandable in this vehicle than just about any of the others I’ve viewed w/all the optional driving modes. Maybe its me, maybe its hard to translate in video (despite yours & others best attempts), maybe this old school just works well, maybe even better than the tech….Nissan needs to improve the turn radius though. It’s so important on the trails to have a tight radius. Heck, in the urban jungles I navigate, the super tight radius of my 6th gen OB is phenomenal & required!
I disagree the older stuff works better. Many people fear change and simply do not understand. I live in Wyoming and I had a 12 Tacoma TRD off Road. I switched to a Ranger and the primary reason was the turbo. At elevation it does not lose power like a NA engine. Also the ten speed and torque is just awesome . I have no problem with Nissan or Toyota, but I will say there isn't a chance in hell I would ever go back to NA engine. I am legit getting 24 miles a gallon and the powertrain is just perfect. If I am paying 50K for a vehicle I don't want to buy a 1997 Nissan hardbody tech.
@@drn13355 Thanks for reply Dan. I did not know the Turbo maintains what the NA loses at altitude. As for the new vs. old, I am all about what works better and don't have old school experience so if you're saying the new is an improvement, its good to know I'm in the new lol
@@drn13355 that turbo I4 will not last 100k. You will rebuild or replace the turbo and the top end of that motor if you expect old 4 liter Toyota or Nissan longevity.
Test drove a couple of these, and liked them. Just too small for my family/work use, especially back seats. Titan Pro4x was/is the winner, and wasn’t that much more.
@@alexgarcia3900 Specific point? Yes, Titan makes up less than 1% of 1/2 ton truck sales. More a marketing failure on Nissan’s part last couple years. Before a couple years ago their interiors were also outdated. The Ridgeline? Great for what is(it’s not a truck), it’s a reskinned Pilot. But, if all a person needed was a light duty open bed soccer mom grocery getter, sure it’d be great for those applications.
@@g.donuts3551 the ridgeline can tow more, has more payload, can carry more it the bed than lots of midsize trucks and some base model full size pickups. So you're saying a base model f150 is not a pickup? The last generation frontier is not a pickup? The tacoma is not a pickup? Also the titan is a fail because the market is very competitive and the titan is ungly as hell by a lot. So why buy it? Also who cares about the ridgeline? I was trying to make a point that it's that bad that people would rather get a ridgeline over a titan lol.
I actually like it's more basic look. It's price is also pretty great. You can snag one for $40k. A completely fair price. A year old for about $35k. The powertrain is also well proven and very reliable. I'm more worried about the day Nissan comes to "improve" it
I have 2018 Pro-4X. Yes it is designed for adventure off road but it also has to navigate the traffics of Los Angeles in this high-fuel cost post-Covid era. It is a truck that does everything well. My truck does about 17 MPG (with all the work-related equipment on board) which is rather low compared to the other trucks - but has good power and most of all, very good AC. My work colleague has 2017 Tacoma TRD Sport which we use for work - in comparison, Tacoma gets a bit better gas mileage, and has much better infotainment screes (older model has very old info system) but in every other aspects, Pro-4X is better in terms of power, comfort, and drivability. This new model is an excellent choice.
The available nismo/billstien leveling kit & upgraded even better billstien shocks dramatically improves both on road & off road comfort & handling especially when fitted with the nismo alloy wheels that only weigh a fraction of stock or otherwise opted wheels it really wakes the truck up with quite a noticeable difference you can get these upgrades at dealership thru nismo & still spend less $ than a trd pro it's more than well worth the investment
I love my '22 SV 4x4. I don't really care what's more up to date or objectively "better" now or 5 years from now because I plan on owning it a long time. If you're in the market, just go and drive options to find what you like. I enjoy how the Frontier drives with the hydraulic steering and smooth V6 power and the tech is good enough for me. I can see the appeal in other models but I just had a preference overall, some of yall are really toxic about really trivial things.
I HAD A 2022SV AND HATED IT MY WIFE LIKED THE COLOUR ? AND NOW I HAVE 2022 PRO4 X ..... LOVE IT GAS MILEAGE IS GREAT HYWAY 8.2 KL PER 100 80 TO 90 KL PER HOUR
I’ve purchased a 2023 Pro 4x and love it. First Nissan truck but have owned several Ford (F150, Rangers) and Chevy. Being near Sundance Ski Resort at high elevation wasn’t a good place for you to test 0-60. I do have the side steps and got them because my wife likes them. She’s 5” 2in. They are fairly simple to remove using an Allen wrench… so I’m told…haven’t done it yet. So if you like the look of them or someone shorter could use them, it shouldn’t be a problem taking them off when needed for off road adventures. I also added 33” wheels which gives some additional clearance.
Good review! Considering a new Frontier… I have a 2012 SV trim with 6M… wish the new ones came with a manual option. It has been a great truck with minimal repair issues but about time to upgrade. Likely will wait for the ‘23 model…. leaning Frontier but will consider Ranger and others. Most of my off-pavement is forest service roads (some pretty rough) or deep soft sand (air down to 18psi). No rock crawling. Appreciate your review with the good, bad, and ugly.
Bought an s model trim 4x4 , drives great, I had a Titan before. Never had a small truck before but I’m really happy with it. Changed the rims and getting a line x spray in bed liner.
I think those steps are removable pretty easily if I recall. I was looking at one but it's gonna be too expensive for me now, so I'm going with the GR86 as an early mid life crisis car. Then I just need a girl 10 years younger 👍
Fender makes guitar Amps too, so they do know a thing or two about making music sound good. I wish you would have used 2wd for as long as possible, rather than hitting 4lo right away.
Personally, I love that Nissan kept it "Old school." All the new features are just BS addons and useless tech. This reminds me of my '07 Xterra so much, just with some upgrades
First: great review as always, but I wish you would spend more time on how the back seats configure for a load. Those of us who want to put dogs or ice chests back there want to know. Also when giving EPA mileage could you also quickly add some competition ratings? "Frontier 4Pro-X gets XXX and the Toyota TRD Pro gets XXX. That context would be helpful. Second: Nissans have always been "old school." Which I like. But sometimes stuff gets left out that would be helpful. (Fully adjustable steering wheel for example). The idea is to go for value, but then add on a bunch of fluff for the dealer to mark up. Burt, you get it if want it. (BTW the side steps are removable, leaving just the rails.) In this case Nissan mostly succeeds. It looks great, but I wish you could get the the Pro4-X with a 6' bed and a smaller back storage area (no "crew cab")
@@johnnyreb9398 US buyers are obsessed with crew cab trucks. Nissan is simply offering what the vast majority of buyers want. If they offered the king cab pro4x, they'd probably only sell a few hundred a year, so it's just not worth it for them. Also, the Canadian market doesn't get 4x2 models, so Nissan is streamlining their offerings in all markets to cut cost. Nissan is still struggling financially and can't afford to do the things other more profitable brands can do. That's why the Frontier only got a heavy refresh instead of a full redesign.
Why does every single truck channel keep putting the Pro-4x against the TRD Pro when it’s meant to be a direct competitor to the TRD Off-Road and NOT the TRD Pro? That’s like comparing an F-14 to a P-52 and then gushing about how much better the F-14 is. It’s not an even match up!
Finally, been waiting for ur review on the frontier.....it took long actually before u got to feature it in ur channel but very honest and detailed review.....Hope we can see this perform on ur own trail soon...(I forgot what that trail is called).
The potholes are really bad now after the snow melt. We were at that location last week and I am pretty sure we gave way to you on your way down. We drove to the gate and then under those powerlines. I took a great picture of my wife as she sat on the rock the last power tower you can walk to. I have been mapping the the area around us both and have found so much more challenging obstacles for you to take on. That spot you go to is not as much fun anymore. Hit us up I can share some trails we have found near us.
On these offroad tests, have you ever had concerns about those low hanging rear shock mount points placed right in the center. Just waiting for a rock to smack that off. At least Toyota places them near the wheel.
@@eyedentity66 my sister races in rallies with her JK Jeep... Since 2007 how often has my Sister ever used her front locker??? Not once. 99.9% of people will never need it and the money saved over a TRD Pro you could install an air locker in the front and still put $10k in the bank 😎
@@beexiong2995 yes and I'm aware. In 2019 my wife bought her fully loaded Pro4X for over $10k LESS than a TRD off road. The reason why i brought up the TRD PRO is the Nissan Pro 4X actually sits in between these 2 from Toyota. Some options the Nissan has as standard only comes on the TRD Pro like 4 wheel disc brakes for 1 example. Anyway yeah in 2019 we bought a new crew cab Pro4X with Premium Pack for $31,400 the Toyota Off Road was $45k so yeah not the same price AT ALL.
@@eppyz the 2019 was cheaper because it was essentially the same truck from 2005. The tacoma had a redesign in 2016 with crawl control and multiterrain modes. Something the frontier still does not have. All trucks in the segment and even full size trucks and crossovers have. Consider this the pro4x costs the same as the trd offroad but offers less. At that price the trd offroad is the better value. I bought my top off the line trd offroad for 46k. The TRD pro does not have 4 wheel disc brakes. The only upgrade is the fox shocks, springs and now control arms. The TRD pro offroad modes are identical to the TRD offroad.
Great review, how would you rate this against the Colorado ZR2? I always see everyone compare against the taco. So my thought is the ZR2 is a step above? Well primarily because of the front lockers, suspension and tires? Thoughts? Thanks in advance, and btw love the channel, keep up the awesome work sir!
Tacoma is good for low speed or off road. Just had a Tacoma TRD for a rental and trying to get that truck up to 80mph was a lot. And it didn't have the power for driving up and down mountain highways. And is uncomfortable for someone that is over 6'. I personally like the 4Runner more, but it needs to have the powertrain and transmission updated.
I own a 2018 frontier and to be honestly I like it better than the new one because there are a few things that the old does better in. One of those would be the ride comfort in the new truck is stiffer and the pedals are little too close, not to mention the seats are on the thin side. With that said everything else about the new frontier is pretty good. If only there was a company out there that can create an adapter plate for the transmission so I could stick the nine speed trans into my truck that would great.
I owned a 2018 Frontier SV 4x4. Really liked it but the engine had no comfort zone in the slow RPM range. It seemed the engine only existed to rev up to the next gear never happy to cruise in a comfortable steady speed. I attributed this to Manifold vacuum and cheap spark plugs from the factory. We needed a bigger truck to tow with and now own a Tundra. The 1000bls payload is amazing. This would be an excellent truck for a 3000lb camper. And all your stuff.
@@feetincheseighths agree, however in my case it would be very expensive to own in Hawaii because of fuel costs and registration fees is way higher than most states, I would love to own a full size truck but in the end it would be too impractical and hence why I went with a mid-size truck.
@@dellkajiwara5377 The new Frontier seems awesome by most reviews. It would not be cost effective to make any changes here for me. The ridiculous prices being asked by dealers are probably undercutting sales numbers expected by manufacturers. I'm still struggling with why a bank would loan on numbers way over MSRP. economist are expecting thousands of vehicles to be given up in repossession as owners struggle with the cost of inflation. People selling big ticket items and contractors feel like they are entitled to make their whole monthly budget on your sale alone. Arrogance and greed as got us were we are today and less about inflation. That's what happens when the government bails out car companies and home mortgage banks. They feel entitled and free to do whatever they want with pricing. It doesnt help when the United States has no working government.
Really like the look of these things. Nissan did a heck of a job. Just wish they'd offer a Manual Transmission. If it was offered in a manual when I got my Tacoma, It would have been a super hard decision...
For all those, if you can live without these limited storage spaces, no telescopic steering wheel,no bed storage, dark interior lighting when at night time, no sides turn signal or auto fold, no auto correct or centering, remote start, no power rear sliding windows., drive mode. Then it for you. :)
Honestly I love this, but there are two really simple things that drive me insane. It really should have a telescopic column, its a simple cheap thing that can have a big impact on comfort as well as safety. The other is the lack of a 4WD system with an auto/full time setting, very nice to have driving through a storm where road conditions are changing without having to move in and out of 2High-4High. That said if I was looking to buy in this segment at the moment this would be my choice.
Agree. None of those two things are expensive or new tech. Every vehicle in their showroom has a wheel that telescopes; why isn't it in the truck (why Nissan fails at more than just using rehashed chassis in "new" vehicles)?
Cameras: Better to have something that is not 100% than nothing. I don't remember if your 4R had a front camera system or not, but mine does not. And cresting a hill or even just going up a steep hill, you are blind. Not unlike old school wheeling days. But w/out a spotter, it is no fun. Steps: Worst thing in the world to put on a 4x4 truck of any make unless all it is going to do is drive on the paved roads. Proper sliders however, best 1st upgrade one should do if you plan on OR wheeling. I was impressed with the capabilities of this truck. Even w/out the rear locker, it managed to do something old school open diffs. would have struggled on. I had an 86.5 Nissan Hardbody SEV6 4x4 and as incredible as it was OR, there were times I desperately needed a rear locker. Off camber and I was SOL. Like you said, having a rear locker would have made that truck nearly unstoppable for the times. Which leads me to the final agreement/observation about turning radius, I tried out a 1987 extended cab of the same make and it was awful! I had exactly the same thoughts you did, feels like I was trying to do a u-turn on a single lane road in a long bed F350. And apparently, they have never remedied that problem. lol Thanks for this review. Was informative. I see I am not missing anything.
2024. I just bought a 24. Love it. I will say with Spotify the Fender 440 watt system sound off the charts good. 10 Speakers 2 of which are subs. Not sure what you're listening to. No offence, FM? The side steps are removable.
I don’t see how this particular Frontier is a direct competitor for the Tacoma TRD Pro. I’m not bashing it or being biased, I actually like the Frontier but, the Pro4X model even with all the bells and whistles, is more on par with a Tacoma TRD Off Road (premium). The TRD Pro is way more equipped from the factory (crappy stock tires aside) to handle rougher terrain with much more heavy duty underbody plating and the Fox suspension.
I hear the Alternator is located at the engine bottom causing malfunction when it get wet or get mud/sand.. is this still the case? Or they fixed for 23/24 models..
I think the Pro 4X is more inline with an TRD Off Road Tacoma then the full blown TRD Pro. That being said, I test drove one of these and was VERY impressed
My company is getting me one of these, don’t know how I feel about it. We had Tacomas and F150s before but because of the shortage they can’t get their hands on them, so they decided to go with these.
As a Nissan Frontier owner buying a $48,000 Brand new Frontier is not worth it neither buying Tacoma or Ranger or Colorado or Ridgeline on the same price range. It's absolute nonsense! When I got my 2018 Nissan Frontier Pro4X Kingcab 4L V6 6 Speed Manual Transmission I only got it for $29,600 with taxes and everything all brand New zero Miles it's a steal! Nowadays midsize trucks cost 48 to 50 grand it's so crazy. Not worth it! Take my advice and recommendation folks. For 48 grand you folks might as well buy a fullsize pickup truck either a basic or mid level trim Toyota tundra, or Nissan Titan, Chevy Silverado 1500, Ford F-150 or GMC Sierra 1500 or 2500 with a big V8 engine. OR! Get a Ford Maverick it cost much less $18,000 or Toyota Tacoma 2.7L 4cylinder or GMC canyon with 4 cylinder engine. Otherwise you folks gotta think 🤔 1000 times before buying a pickup truck, think and consider "What the hell do I need a pickup truck for?" Do I really need it?? What do I do for a living?? Or Do I just wanted it for fun and to show the people how badass I am but don't really needed it?? Hey folks owning a pickup truck is a very serious thing just like owning an Electric vehicle this is not just like a walk in the park y'all.
Great review. I don’t know how people can afford to drop $50K on any vehicle. I bought my first house in 96 and that 3bdrm 2bath house on 1/3 of an acre for $55K, so spending $50K for a vehicle is have simply priced themselves out of my market.
Average buyer for midsize truck is in their late 40s/early 50s. Most good jobs if you’re 20-30 years in should be able to easily afford a 50k vehicle. Add a spouse income and that makes it even easier. But just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.
@@gs98999...lots of factors there...however, the Frontier is NOT all new and uses a lot of previous gen parts and omits simple stuff that Honda Fits have. It needs to be 10-15% than it is; nothing industry breaking in this truck. VW also has Fender audio, it's in my wife's Atlas. I just got the Frontier with the Fender, and I think it is alot better than basic. Audio is a really subjective thing though.
Are they proper rock rails that can support the weight of the vehicle?
Can you really take the steps off? I might have to buy the Nissan ones for my Pro-4X
I love the infotainment display, it's not overbearing, isn't required for most functions, and allows for still a majority of tactile buttons to be used over the touch screen. Very practical and a lot safer than some of the infotainment displays that displace safer buttons while driving. Have to give Nissan props for that.

@@mikeriv60 lol. Only time will tell, Nissans quality is no where near what it used to be, they're all ll fleet cars now. Trucks have been decent but who knows. Ever since Renault bought into Nissan in 99 it's been going down the drain.
Thanks for another great review. Just took the Frontier for a test drive and wow I was very impressed. I think a Frontier will be in my driveway soon.
Ok dude.
@danielrn133 Fact N/A engines in general will last longer than a turbo engine. I own a Twin turbo vehicle and N/A vehicle
I have one. Love it. Gets between 9 - 10L per 100kms roughly highway. Mines lifted, bed rack, 33" tires. Its fantastic. Highly recommend
Wow mpg is terrible.. lol.. was thinking of downsizing my f150 but i get about 23mpg in that at 75-80mph and thats a supercrew 6ft bed 4x4 with the 5.0
Slow down man. That saves you no time e and is illegal
I've been waiting for this vid for ages! Just sat down with my morning coffee, what perfect timing!
Me too😂
Sold my tacoma and bought this truck. Drives and feels 10 times better than the taco. Not to mention lifetime powertrain warranty!
I prefer simple older shit that's why I bought a 22
Toyota Tacoma 6-speed manual, I feel that that is the oldest/new midsize 🛻💨 I could find but it's people like that Nissan good on them because I think it's kick ass also
This truck is a home run in my opinion. 👍
I’ve been waiting for this one.
Nice color too!
Yea I would love a Titan Pro-4x but they discontinued those in Canada
Anytime "family" comes into play just go full size.
Titan is the worst selling truck ever. Even the ridgeline sells more.
I'm more worried about the day Nissan comes to "improve" it
It's OK, we've got another 17 years haha
“Those side rails will just grind on everything” sounds like my ex-wife!
Appreciate the thorough review!
The steps are detachable btw just leaves the rail for off roading.
Thank you for testing this truck on your channel, love it.
Nissan warranty is better than other brands.
The fenders are made by Panasonic and the sounds is great. Fenders are in all the VWs as well.
Remember Technics home audio? That was Panasonic too.

Just bought mine today love it
I’ve purchased a 2023 Pro 4x and love it.
Don't even bother with the Ranger. Too many iisues. I am a Ford dealership Technician. I wouldn't buy one.
Thanks for the detailed explanation on the off-road segment. You just got a new subscriber.
Nissan, build a Frontier based Xterra for North America!

I think those steps are removable pretty easily if I recall. I was looking at one but it's gonna be too expensive for me now, so I'm going with the GR86 as an early mid life crisis car. Then I just need a girl 10 years younger 👍
Would a woman 10 years younger than you, date an older guy who can't afford Nissan's entry level pickup?
@@JulezWinnfield...depends on if she still lives with her parents or not.
If you want to upgrade you better have more than GR86 money. You’ll be driving the same car as the guy she dates 😀
For some reason only canada gets the king cab pro 4x option.
Many great years with my '10 Pro-4x 6spd! They've done a great job with the latest design.
I pulled the trigger on a 2018 frontier today. I still think it looks better than the new ones.

FYI, those side steps can be removed with an allen wrench. Was considering buying one, until I saw the local dealers hat a 10% markup.
What state are you in?
Why does every single truck channel keep putting the Pro-4x against the TRD Pro when it’s meant to be a direct competitor to the TRD Off-Road and NOT the TRD Pro? That’s like comparing an F-14 to a P-52 and then gushing about how much better the F-14 is. It’s not an even match up!
Literally doesn't make sense it may not be 1-1 but it's definitely .98-1

The potholes are really bad now after the snow melt. We were at that location last week and I am pretty sure we gave way to you on your way down. We drove to the gate and then under those powerlines. I took a great picture of my wife as she sat on the rock the last power tower you can walk to. I have been mapping the the area around us both and have found so much more challenging obstacles for you to take on. That spot you go to is not as much fun anymore. Every Nissan dealership: "You're getting sidebars."
Awesome styling
Great review!
I had a 2004 frontier. Thing was great, only issue I had was an evap cannister error. Sold it with around 120k miles on it.
On these offroad tests, have you ever had concerns about those low hanging rear shock mount points placed right in the center. Just waiting for a rock to smack that off. At least Toyota places them near the wheel.
At least the Nissan has rear disc brakes 🙄
@@eyedentity66 my sister races in rallies with her JK Jeep... Since 2007 how often has my Sister ever used her front locker??? Not once. 99.9% of people will never need it and the money saved over a TRD Pro you could install an air locker in the front and still put $10k in the bank 😎
@@eppyz you do know the pro4x competes with the trd off road not trd pro and its the same price as this
@@beexiong2995 yes and I'm aware.
Yes, the ZR2 is better, but also much more expensive when fully loaded.

That 360 degree view camera quality cant be much worst than the one in my 4Runner.
It’s worse.
@@drivingsports I have to give props to Nissan for managing to spend time and money to find a cheaper camera than the one in the 4Runner.
I agree with the highway driving manners, although a good set of tires on a new Tacoma makes a world of difference.
Finally a nissan on driving sport tv
Our first truck review in 2009 was a Nissan Frontier. True story.
Great review as always.
Would it be possible to upgrade cameras after market?
Bro reviewed this truck as if it should be a car....
What you mean?
???

You legit drove past my exit in the video.
Would love to see a 2023 Frontier review. I know they are pretty similar, but it would still be cool to see the latest model!
The Frontier's reputation for safety and reliability is truly commendable. Can owners confirm this?
Their trucks are better than the cars. The CVTs ruin it.
For all those, if you can live without these limited storage spaces, no telescopic steering wheel,no bed storage, dark interior lighting when at night time, no sides turn signal or auto fold, no auto correct or centering, remote start, no power rear sliding windows., drive mode. Then it for you. :)
MY 2022 PRO4X HAS EVERYTHING BUT THE LEATHER AND KITCHEN SINK.
Another thing to add is no adjustable power lumbar support. Even the Tacoma has it on SR5s and up.
I see I am not missing anything.

on a 17 and punching air how good the new frames are in the 2023+
The 15.9 is a lot better for around town than the 13 I'm getting with my 2019 Frontier.
Perfect review ..and l like or always watching your Chanel .. really fantastic..

I think the Pro 4X is more inline with an TRD Off Road Tacoma then the full blown TRD Pro.
That being said, I test drove one of these and was VERY impressed
Looking forward to the comparison.
these are even more appealing seeing how people are wanting over $35K for a 2015 tacoma with over 100,000 miles.
My company is getting me one of these, don’t know how I feel about it.
We had Tacomas and F150s before but because of the shortage they can’t get their hands on them, so they decided to go with these.
What a beauty

Frontier did great 👍
Good review on the Frontier Thanks, Why are the different manufacturers placing so much emphasis on off-roading?? How many fools would pay 45k to jump ditches and climb rocks??
dude...
some of us live in the ranches or backwoods, son
I hate useless features that are added to get the nicer interior on most new vehicles. I managed for 34 years without cameras and blind spot, I still want the Pro-4x
just saw one in socal with a 4 inch lift and 20 inch rims. Looked crazy good for mountain trails
Thank you for another great video.
my best friend has a 2012 frontier the seat belt locked up and the airbag to deployed it was a sensitivity recall he still has this truck and uses it every single day only recently fixed the seatbelts posting this in 22
looks great
Ryan, glad you found the rear cup holders, because the non-telescoping was enough for me to skip the truck...I guess someone needs to tell Nissan that it is the small, simple stuff makes the difference btwn good/ok, and great.
VW also has Fender audio, it's in my wife's Atlas. I just got the Frontier with the Fender, and I think it is alot better than basic. Audio is a really subjective thing though.
Great video
Nothing compares to a LANDCRUISER.
