Tbh alcantara isn't all that great. It's nice until you actually own a car with it on any touchpoint and then you have to deal with maintaining it, which isn't the WORST thing in the world but it's a hell of a lot more involved than a nice leather interior that you don't have to think twice about other than the occasional wipe down and conditioning. Another review I watched said exactly what you're assuming. They showed a dino torque curve of each vehicle. S does have more midrange torque than R. R is turned for track at the top end while S is tuned for road, a "drivers car" first instead of track first. In addition S is 20% softer in each damping setting compared to R. R is stiffer even in comfort.

Acura have achieved something amazing by making what everyone saw as "The softer, inferior, luxurious Type R" into the DEFINITIVE version of the Type R! (Unless you do a lot of track driving of course :) )
This is better looking, more luxurious, softer riding, has a more powerful engine and since this is only released in North America this doesn't have to comply with noise regulations, so it sounds WAY better than the muted Type R? UNBELIEVABLE. ❤️🔥 Well done Acura, I don't even like the regular Integra or other Acura models but this Type S is the only way I would have my Type R if I had the money 🥰

Come on Acura! Over fifty thousand dollars and no rear a/c vents, power front passenger seat or DCT option?! Acura is obviously targeting a younger buyer here. It seems they missed an opportunity though. They already have a performance car for the younger enthusiast with the Type R. Acura should have taken this opportunity to compete with performance vehicles from Audi and BMW.

There are a lot of faster and funner cars at this price point. I realize I'm the target demographic for the Integra Type S since I'm in my 40s and grew up with the original, but this is a hard sell for the price. $25k in 1997 is essentially $48k with inflation, so I guess this isn't too far off, but it's still tough with so many other options. I've since moved on to Porsches and definitely wouldn't give up my Cayman (or even Macan) for this. I know the new vs used argument always comes up, but would you really take this over a gently used Cayman S or GTS for nearly the same price?

I owned the 2000 Civic Si (bought it new). I had the body kit on it for a couple months with the 18in wheels. I quickly got rid of it for stock body parts, and put lighter weight 16in Motegi wheels and Eibach springs. I realized I rather have a fun driving car than a flashy car. I've owned MK2+3 Supras, FC RX-7, 240sx, 2nd gen Integra for short period of time, so I always loved the lightweight fun cars, minus the MK3 Supra which was a pig. I to am in my 40s and wouldn't be able to justify spending $40,000 - $50,000 on a reimagined childhood car.
I held on to my BMW E90 for 12 years, still got it, but wanted a lightweight fun car and bought Mazda3 hatchback AWD. I really wanted an ND Miata but couldn't find one for a good price. It's comfortable, quiet, practical, AWD for the snow, decent MPG (36.8 mpg on a recent 100 mile trip), interior is best in it's class, and it darts around easily in southern New England abysmal streets and traffic, and the hatchback makes it easy for those trips to Home Depot for some potting soil and mulch. I slapped on some Pirelli P Zero AS UHP which are 4lbs lighter than stock OE per wheel and it corners great with confidence, combined that with just a drop in K&N for better intake sound and 93oct (87 recommended) for Mazda high 13:1 CR, you get far less timing pull at top end during hot summer days and you have yourself a fun reliable car. Will do 19lbs forge wheels next spring, stock 26lbs are way too heavy, knocking 40+lbs of rotational mass, will skip the lowering spring since my 40ish year old back would not enjoy it, neither would the car with these piss poor New England roads.
If anyone is looking for a $50,000 sports car, the M240i with the proven B58 engine starts at $52,000 (2024 pricing). Just a thought. Before anyone say but it's BMW reliability, well BMW is tied with Mazda for 3rd, right behind Toyota and Lexus for most reliable.

Maybe one of the twins should have a 5th seatbelt as well. And the first things I mentioned weren't actual cost cutting in the traditional sense. What it was is they actually didn't want to develop unique versions of those (door panel, vents, rear window pinch sensors) for a North America-only product.

It's the only way it could drive, since it's on the exact same platform and has the same powertrain. I still think the ultimate handling limits of the Civic Type R will be a level above, but it will be close. It is NOT worth $75K. You seriously might regret that. Js

It actually felt quite heavy and boat-like in my test drive

Liking what I see from this car, but 52k firmly prices me out. 45k is about the upper limits of what I can afford and I missed the boat on getting on a list for a FL5CTR from an MSRP dealer.

The Type S is $58,321 Canadian, in Canada, including freight and dealer prep. A lot of people think that's too much, but the Integra was never an inexpensive car. Type R in Canada in 1997 sold new for around $29,000, or $53,000 in today's money, using an inflation calculator. Given that the new vehicle is vastly superior from a tech and performance standpoint, it's about the same price but a much better car.

A wonderful machine that you can control yourself and feel it, what is missing in my opinion is more power and seventh gear :)

If I owned this car I'd get way too acquainted with law enforcement. Fantastic machine though, you can tell it gets better the harder you push it.
