I have a real soft spot for Baron. His temperament and willingness to do the job is so impressive. As for all the gees, haws, gee little bit, whoa, ba ba back, I’m the only one who gets them mixed up. 😂. Love being in the woods with Jim and the team.
I also enjoy being in the woods with Jim. Always impressed by how his chainsaw starts up on the first "pull" !! Jim must have it set so well, he can do that !!
Good stallions make great geldings
I've loved Baron since the first day Jim and Brenda brought him home!! He is such a gorgeous horse. And I love how he prances and swishes his tail no matter if he's just walking or trotting at the farm after delivering a load of wood to Abby's house, or if he's pulling heavy logs in the forest! Will be interesting to see if Duke and Earl have that same characteristic or if the prancing and swishing the tail are just traits of his own!😘 I surely do enjoy watching him work with Jim and the other horses though. You can tell how intelligent he is by how fast he was ready to work after Buck passed away. I hope someday Jim will ride him like he does Lady and Bill. Bet he'll be fun to ride😘.
Baron certainly has the whole package. Looks, temperament, conformation, the desire to work. I can see why Jim is biased and pleased with his performance. And he makes such BEAUTIFUL babies!!!!
I'm thinking Baron was one of the best purchases you have ever made, he works like a veteran thanks to your training.
Baron sure did not loose the spring in his step. He is a special horse.
Baron seems to be turning out to be a great worker in the woods! Keep the great videos coming!
It's so funny when pulling a load, Baron still wants to trot and eventually talks Bill in to it too! Not to mention, he's the most handsome boy on the farm. ❤️
Baron is getting better at not bunny hopping as much. He is doing great.
Baron has all the vigour he had before he was castrated you see that in his attitude of wanting to get going
thanks jim for the vids
I love at 6:20, the rehitch, 1st throw the chain back on the disconnect, then rehook without dismounting, but my main point is watch the log lift up in front when the horses lean forward, beginning their pull, the log goes up!, skidding on the back of the log!. Imagine the energy the horses conserve with this type of work, this is huge, the horses can work all day. Baron and Bill make it look easy, and certainly Jim makes it easier for them in this example. Nice work, excellent hitching and chain work. Excellent!
Thank you. Sure is nice to see the snow and snow base, looks like you have 3 loads again for the log truck, yeah!
Wow, Jim that was a huge tree you, Baron and Bill took out of the woods. It looks beautiful with the snow in the woods. I hope you are keeping warm in the cold. 🙏👍❤️
Woo hoo getting closer to 100k subscribers ❤❤
Enjoy your videos. May the lord bless and protect you and the horses working in the logging
Quick question for Brenda & Jim. While working along in the woods do you two have a schedule that Jim checks in just to be sure he and the team are doing OK?
My experience from stud to a gelding. No difference in performance. Baron's disposition will be better and be able to be trusted more.
Plus less headache and concerns if he gets out. A stud in the wrong place can be a very hudge problem.
Great job thanks for sharing your jobs on the farm 👍
You have Baron coming along fantastic!!! The woods are just picture perfect!! Blessings
I kind of like Baron a whole lot. He is a beautiful boy for sure..God bless.. Be safe..❤
Baron is a little fresh this morning
Thank you Jim. I can not pick a favorite because your horses are so perfect❤❤❤.
Those are great working horses. Follow your direction impeccably.
Oh Baron!!! So PROUD of you! Glad he's doing so well, he's intelligent as well as being a stunningly beautiful horse. Keep up the good work, Baron! Jim, my husband and I certainly enjoyed this video. Watching you working with the horses in the snow is a privilege. Thank you!!
Thank you for going out of your way and recording these videos. It makes me really really appreciate the warm house that I’m in. May God keep you warm Burr
The horse do so well in those conditions there footings look hard
Baron is doing extremely well, alone that he stands so quietly while you are cutting.
Baron is doing so well. Cant wait to see him at a horse pull someday when Jim thinks he is ready for that. Jim defentially found a great horse when he purchased him
Another great video,be well,
The snow is beautiful. I live in the South so not much snow ever. It is cold right now.
I wish I had a mare I could cross with Baron. He's a really pretty boy, such a great personality, and I think a great representation of the Suffolk breed. His breeder is doing good.
Man you folks up there just are something else working in that weather..SALUTE.............LOV FROM SOUTH ALABAMA.
Using the reins just like a steering wheel on a car. Amazing, thank you.
For a stallion, he was always great! He listens to you very well. A great looking horse!
I love Baron's eyes they're so expressive and that pretty soft brown color. 🐎
I think Baron is doing Great, I think he's going to be even better as he mature
Jim, I really enjoyed today's video , Bill and Baron are a great working team. I really appreciate Baron's willingness to work and energy. Which is a credit to your expert training. I can see in the future that Duke and Earl will be great yard horses as well.
It seems to me that Baron is standing better today than in the past.
I think he will get better with time
Baron and Bill are so handsome. Nice video, thank you Jim. ❤
Animals are much stronger than we give credit. Castration is pretty simple unlike spaying. I worked at a high volume spay neuter clinic. Neuters went quick. Recovery quick.
Very nice update & love the sounds in the woods!! ❤
I notice that Baron does a double rear leg jump when he senses a need for a strong pull at start off from stationary. It will be interesting to see if Earl and Duke do the same i.e. is it something within the breed or just peculiar to Baron.
Master Teamster working a pair of pretty danged good horses!!
Hi Jim. I think before you got the colts you were asking yourself if they would be strong enough for your kind of jobs. Since you started working Baron specially do you think he is strong enough or is it too early to say? That s comparing to your belgians
I'm seeing Baron is a Little Slow Starting Just a few Times And Still has That Lil Hop About him But Baron has Really Getting in To His own and For a 4 Year Old is doing A Wonderful Job Bill is Just and Awesome Horse Willing to Give His All Every Pull Baron as Well. Thanks For Letting Us All Enjoy Your Videos Blessings And Please Be Safe ✌️
This was a good load, congrat B team!
🤔Nice video today’s logging with horses little snow got the skinny performance etc , a few good sized logs 🤭 recalling vid about you shorting there tails, during video I thought good idea they looked great together Jim 👍
A really lovely horse. Thankfully owned by Jim and Brenda.
Baron reminds me of Lady, pawing, Let’s go!!
I think or believe that Baron and Duke will be a great team together when Duke is ready
I am amazed at how Baron is developing...👍
Amazing how well trained Jim has his horses. No fussing. Just quiet words. The horses are willing to work for him and respond so calmly.
Baron is just beautiful in every way I just love watching any video he is in .Thank you for sharing
Thank you for sharing Jim. 🐴
Hey Jim and Brenda. Love the channel and the horses. Can you show us how many hands tall the horses are. I know you have shown their weight a lot but don’t remember if you have shown their height. God bleats stay safe!
PG here, I thought there was a bigger difference between Suffolk Punch and Belgium. Bill and Baron seem pretty equal, Baron kind seems more muscular? That is a question. I do not know. The scenery there is breathtaking especially while snowing. I pray for your safety and the horses while driving back and forth. Copy and pasted.:The Suffolk Horse, also historically known as the Suffolk Punch or Suffolk Sorrel,[1] is an English breed of draught horse. The first part of the name is from the county of Suffolk in East Anglia, and the word "Punch" is an old English word for a short stout person.[2] It is a heavy draught horse which is always chestnut in colour, traditionally spelled "chesnut". Suffolk Punches are known as good doers, and tend to have energetic gaits. The local farmers developed the Suffolk Punch for farm work, for which they needed a horse with power, stamina, health, longevity, and docility, and they bred the Suffolk to comply with these needs. Because the farmers used these horses on their land, they seldom had any to sell, which helped to keep the bloodlines pure and unchanged.[6] The breed's status is listed as critical by the UK Rare Breeds Survival Trust and the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy. n the 1970s and early 1980s, the American registry allowed some Belgians to be bred to Suffolk Punches. in 2011, between 800 and 1,200 horses were in the United States and around 150 were in England. 2016 there are 300 in the UK.
I love Baron, but i have a bay Arabian mare, haha that would be a funny mix. We will breed her with a double liquid Pearl andalusian
Man o man that was a big log for those horses 🐎 jim they shore got some pulling power , l think Baron going too be a great horse for farming and logging 👌 on, ok look forward to your next clip what ever it is cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
Beautiful and excellent work
Doesn't get much better than this especially with the team you have 😊
Burrrraron and cold too. Trying to find the heat and increase it gradually.
Very impressive how far Baron and Bill squat down to push the cart backwards.
That exactly what they're trained to do drop down and lean & push into the breeching . to pus the cart backwards.
Both beautiful horses.
Great video Jim like alway . Take care . 😊
Wow Jim a couple really nice sized Log's.
Thank you for the ,beautiful calendar. (GOD BLESS YOU) 😇
Superb horse, great pair.
Amazed once again.
Good to see that Baron is doing so well. He and Bill seem to be well matched. It certainly is a beautiful place with all the snow. 👍😊👍
Wish I had a mare. Baron would be my first choice to sire a foal.
Another great video by Working Horses with Jim
Well wishes to you and to your wife as well. I sort of knew that your ability to know the type of horse for your work and prosperity were enough to determine whether or not to castrate. Fine business to you. Nice video
Be safe and God bless
Very enjoyable video. Thanks
Stud horse will try from time to time to let you know that he is the Boss.
And a stud is very hard to have around mares.
how does that saw start on one pull
I'll take a shot at this seeing I service saws.. first of all the 2 most reliable saws used in a pro setting are typically Husky or Stihl, I know there are many other good saws but these 2 enjoy an excellent reputation for quality and good engineering, thats one. Two is Jim uses his saw on a regular basis, it hard on saws that sit not being used for long periods and 3 is Jim being an experienced sawer, makes his living in part sawing so maintenance is key, spark plug services and replaced at manufacturers recommended intervals and adjusting (knowing how to set up and adjust the carb) a saw, Jim learned from his Dad, I suppose and other mentors over the years on how to properly service a saw. Lastly, using a saw not abusing a saw, again linked to experience.. Preventive maintenance,, huskys are well built and that's important, I work on all saws but shy away from poulans, though some are ok, my experience is they are poorly engineered. So their "threshold" to problems is very narrow, though I know some folks have success with them. I have a saying "friends don't give friends poulans" ah ha.
The number #1 cause of chainsaw runability issues is bad and/or contaminated (old) fuel!
Thank you John .😊
Jim do you prefer dry frozen ground or a little snow to make logs slid easier?
Definitely the frozen snow pack
Been watching from mabou cape breton nova scotia canada really enjoying
It was 17 degrees here in Seattle for the past week. Now it is getting warmer. It should be 40 degrees by Friday and the usual rainy and dark cloudy days.
Jim, about how tall will your Suffolks be when they are mature, at say 5 yr olds? Will they reach 16 hands, or more?
Jim as always another great video, any news on your friend that had the two Percheron mates that you went and drove his horses at his logging site?
Hello, have a nice day
After watching Dr Pol castrate horses, he always says, now he'll be thinking with his brains! Greetings from Wisc the frozen tundra!
Gee, they make a good team, really powerful, and they sure scoot along even with that big log.
Know you don't have to worry about him around mare's
Printaboul = Gaëtan (Quebec city)
When future offspring of Baron comes, and it is permitted by eventuals owers .. I imagine we would be numerous followers to see picture of videos shot of them. This is a great chapter of what you present in your videos.
One last question: Is Bill story the same as Baron, was he ever a stallion and is it you that made him a gelding?
Thanks ...
What's up ... not much, having my morning coffee, watching the new «working horses with Jim»
Are you planning on keeping your suffix long maine or later are you gonna cut it off?
Impressive harness teams and driving, I like the harness too wre did you get them ?
Merhaba, güzel videolar
you can tell he listing to you and great on trying to please you, Jim will you be cutting his main now he is guiding?
Does Jim have someone with him when he's logging? I was just thinking about him having an accident of or something.
Jim works alone .Yes accidents can happen .But watch ,Jim knows what he is doing .Full safety gear plus experience . On this cut Hwy 30 right there plus cell phone coverage. So conclusion ,don't worry (Brenda) or other's. Jim is a pleasure to watch .😊😊😊
Jim did you ever try to command youre horses just by your voice in the wood, my father used to command his horse by voice in the Woods, but it was one horse only not a team
If you regularly watch Jim and Brenda's videos, you will see this happen. They are very obedient ❤
I will rephrase my question, the lumberjacks who came out of the woods with their horses like you Jim, many worked without a lace just by voice all day long. Is it safe in a long périod of time.
I believe you answered your own question , when you said ,single horse, not team . 😊
Jim, When harvesting trees for lumber, do you cut the logs longer than 16' to compensate for cracks & to square up the ends? Just asking.
6 inches extra for trim .😊
Are you going to start using Duke and Earl this year in the woods.
The short answer is no .Duke and Earl are not fully broke and too young. My opinion, not Jim's. What do you say Jim .😊😊😊
without wanting to offend anyone when I ask Jim a question, I would like a answer from Jim
Not offended. If you want an answer from Jim and only Jim ask your question by e -mail .Not on social media.🌍
Baron always swings his butt. Is this a muscle thing, or just that he has a springy step? Does that use more energy?
Apologies for not being up to date but why did you geld him, especially considering how rare Suffolk Punches are?
What kind of boots do you weare they. Must be good keep. Loging. And. Tarming. 😅
Jim, I know you know what you are doing ( BUT ) ! growing up in the timber and around sawmills
one thing i learnt was to not be working ALONE !! you have been doing timberwork for many
years and you as well as I know thats not good,,,
Please work safe pal.
Dave
👍🏽👍🏽
How is Lady coming being pregnant?
You said that you were gonna breed lady back with Baron Simon again. Isn't she pregnant now? So that means that you would do a third breeding with her
I thought Lady was already breed
She is. He was talking about a possible third foal.
