- Today Jim, Brenda & the Draft Horses are Hauling Hunters & Hunting Gear Deep into Forest for Week Long Hunting Trip!! This is our Annual trip with this group of hunters as they bring canoes full of hunting gear deep i into the Adirondack forest for a hunting trip. No vehicles are allowed in this area, so the horses help pull the gear in!
Watch our videos to learn about draft horses- horse logging, horse farming, and horse training! Jim uses Belgian, Percheron, and Suffolk horses to do work on the farm and in the woods. He teaches about harnesses, horse-drawn logging and farming equipment, horse feeding and maintenance, and voice commands for horses. New videos uploaded every week. Keep watching to see how Jim trains his new Suffolk Punch colts as he has trained his full-grown teams!

Young horse, cold day, new surroundings. I always dreaded the first cold and/or windy days. It makes the horses stupid. Baron did well for as stirred up as he was. He still got the job done, and he didn't get silly when the canoe overturned. Good job in asking good questions, Brenda. It looks like the hunters are thinning out. They need to bring some kids with them.
Brenda, your filming was as perfect as always. I so enjoyed the little adventure and snickered at Baron a couple of times when he was snorting and blowing. LOL. He'll learn. Thank you for letting us come along and give Jim a hug for me.
Well once in I would imagine the trip out with the horses would be a lovely ride through the forest with no schedule to keep. Didn't look like as many hunter this year. Have a great day and thank you for bringing us along.
I remembered many more last year.
Yes Wayne, I think I remember about four canoes last time.
It was 4 canoes last year but for Baron being his first year two canoes were good enough for him.
I missed last year's, saw the previous 2, and was 4 canoes, 8 men. Trip of their forefathers. Young fellas must be getting too soft!
Poor Baron, he is a farm boy. That snorting & high alertness was so funny as an observer. But Jim had everyone's confidences, otherwise if Baron got loose homeward bound he would go. Thank for the diversity. Fan from NW Michigan.
I think this was a little more of an adventure than Baron and Jim would have preferred. Thank you for taking us along Brenda
These videos trigger thoughts of early settlers and the struggles they experienced. My grandfather owned a delivery business with his horse and wagon in a small town in PA. I love your videos..
Well Brenda I see that you got your steps in for the day. Beautiful walk in the woods reminds me of my days hunting in Maine. Walking thru the leaves still hunting watching the wild life. Listening to the stream running hearing the birds chirping. I sure wish I had one horse when I was lucky enough to bag a deer to help me drag it home. I hear Barron snorting when he gets scared. Thanks again for for all of your hard work to share these videos with us. God bless and keep safe on your travel home.
Our New York State Adirondacks are so beautiful, especially this year with the touch of snow on the ground. It makes the green greener and the leaves crispier. The lake looked cold and very dark. I think I would love to go with them. I would not bring a gun but I would bring my watercolors and camera. Just thinking of cooking over an open fire like my Grandmother would make me so happy. I am not sure I would like to sleep in the cold. I think Baron was excited and I think Brenda gave him reassurance every time he saw her. Just get the job done so I can go back to the barn he must have been thinking. The video was special.
Bless Baron's heart, all the strange people with backpacks and canoes had him so worried and afraid. I've never heard him snorting and been so skittish. Seems like in years past there were more hunters and canoes.? It's so beautiful and tranquil up there.
The forest probably smelled different too from what he is familiar with at home. Likely more predator scents was part of his discomfort.
Young horses snorting and blowing. 4 years old is a long way from seeing it all. Great job giving him some room to learn
Jim is such a great horseman!
I enjoyed this adventure today. They had a lot of gear. Those canoes were riding low in the water. My question is… how do they carry a lot of meat back on top of their gear? Super job of recording this episode Brenda. Great job with the horses Jim. Glad nobody was injured when the canoe tipped over. Sounds like Barron and Bill were ready to get outta there! Y’all be blessed.❤
On the way back most of their food will be gone and beer alcohol whatever they had with them so they will have room for deer
Thanks for taking us along Brenda and Jim look like it's cold and damp
My favourite notification on here when a new video is posted
Jim, Brenda, Thank you for this great video& trip deep into the beautiful woods! I sure hope the hunters have a fun& safe hunt, and Shoot some big deer! Hi to everyone, Jim, Nova Scotia, Canada.
I admire those guys and their determination to go deep into that forest. I hope their hunting trip is successful. Thanks for sharing the trip in loved it!
Baron has come such a long way. He is improving everyday w/ the exposure he receives. Thank you for sharing.🐴🐴
I kept hearing Deliverence music…….lol…great job Brenda with filming. You got all the great angles and made it very interesting ❤❤❤
me too

Hi Jim and Brenda! Mike would love to be one of the hunters. 😊 You do such a good job having variety in your videos! Love Jim's comment, "just training horses". You do it so well!!
What a huge amount of gear. Winter camping for me is a one-man tent; a down sweeping bag; extra jumper and dry food; and (most important) not forgetting matches.
These guys are deer hunting, so there is quite a bit more gear and clothing involved, than just camping.
I agree Johnmarlow2887!! That is reminiscent of my father's elk hunting gear to spend a week in the Yukon Territory!!!
Brenda, great job as a videographer and interviewer with that group! Beautiful area!
I very much enjoyed this video. Baron did great for a youngster. I have seen older experienced horses get uncomfortable when encountering people carrying things on their back. He's a champ.
Baron and Bill are saying ,,,,who are these people..I just wanna haul logs..We didn't know all these strange looking things would be here ..
I look forward to seeing this trip. The first episode of these guy’s doing this is the most interesting. The guy’s talk about the history of doing this trip for so many years. And how all of the canoe and gear was packed in by push and dragging. It’s a great trip
My favorite video each year. A note to the hunters- if you cut a foot off the height of your buggies and lowered the centre of gravity, it might help avoid roll-overs. Here's hoping for a successful hunt.
Mrs. Brenda you did some great work video this beautiful trip.
Little did Brenda know years ago that her running skills would actually be needed someday.
Oh my , what a adventure , glad to see Barron made it through okay 👍 !!
Good thing that one hunter wasn’t injured with the canoe load falling on top of him.
Really enjoyed this canoe trip with you folks. 😊
Great video! Great photography! Interesting to see the reaction to the backpacks and gear. I used to have an Arabian - she spooked at everythng - but I was surprised to see the Boys react like that. But Baron still did really good. Thanks for sharing this neat adventure. ❤
I did some packing in hunters in Montana in 1980 . Cold . Took several in on horse back , got up late in the mountain top .road out sunsetting around five , got home at ten .
The horses saved us .they new the way home . But was a memorial night .very cold.
Beautiful vidio . I see you have a dusting of snow .
Your horezes did a fine Job . They know Jim .
Thankyou .
My calenders came today, pictures are really nice, good job putting it together thanks so much, Baron didn't seem to thrilled with this job but did his job, Barry from Pa
Thanks Brenda & Jim for a great video. I look forward to that one each year with the hunters going deep into the Adirondacks to hunt Whitetail Deer.
Brenda, as always the horses look fabulous. Your dedication to grooming really shows. It was a great video watching Baron work through some scary stuff and Jim's calm demeaner helped him so much.
Thanks!
"You need training wheels on those canoe carriers!"
Love your videos and Jim working the horses
We sure did enjoy it 23:16
Over 50 years ago, NYSDEC illegally closed off a logging road to motorized access back into Adirondack hunting camps at the river crossing. It was one of many logging roads closed. During the summer, our hunting club made deer carriers to haul their supplies in. Not being design engineers, the overloaded carriers broke down within an eighth of a mile and they had to resort to pack baskets and second trips in the 4 mile hike to camp. Property owners took NYSDEC to court and ultimately won but the general public was still barred from motorized access from the river crossing on in. It ruined the hunting season for many camps. It was a poor decision on the part of state policy makers and one which may come back to bite them if there are forest fires in the future with climate change and global warming and no access to fight them. It was the same decision makers who said fire towers were no longer needed and airplanes could do the same job cheaper. Fuel loads in state protected forests has been building up since the "Forever Wild" law went into effect and are now ripe for a major forest fire. It is time for state policy makers to rethink their decisions. A well laid out forest fire road protection system for motorized vehicles in Wild Forests would benefit the deer hunting, trapping, cross country skiing, ATV and snowmobile recreation, trout fishing, and camping and add to the area's economy without significantly damaging the ecosystem of the Adirondacks. Primitive areas would remain unprotected and if they burn, they burn. It is not a matter of if the forests in the Adirondacks will burn, but when.
Fun to see a new storyline in your life! It's beautiful there by the water, but it's probably cold!! 😬 Good for those guys that they like it!! Lol!
I think Baron is going to be very happy to get back home! Poor guy! 💕 so good for him to have these experiences, tho! Thanks for another great video!! 😁👍
What an adventure. Baron learning new things. Brenda, you sure did have a lot of walking to do.
The hunting video a few years back was the first of yours I watched. I’ve been tuning in since!
Yeah, me too, since it takes place just a few miles from me!
Another wonderful video, Brenda!!! Jim, always a great job with the horses. Baron really was out of his element, wasn't he?? He still did good though. Beautiful area to bring the hunters!!! Have a good rest of your week & thanks for sharing your adventures with us!! 💕
Yes this is a great video of the trekking the East Woods. I like the idea the first canoe had the kayak paddle instead of the canoe paddles.
Enjoyed the entire video . Beautiful horses and beautiful country.
The water is so calming
An excellent sharing of beautiful American draft horses. Today it seems they are not morning horses. ; - ) What a great adventure!
This Is right up ma (my) street… I had to pause this to type comment, before I watch your video… I used to work on a farm in South west Scotland working with Clydesdale beautiful horses… sorry I’m ranting… let’s go… ❤❤❤ from Scotland
Hi from Brunswick, Maine, US...
I love your horses 🐎
Hope you & Jim are feeling much better!! Very nice video :) God Bless Working Horses with Jim & Brenda
Wonderful video, great bunch of Guy's creating memories and you got to help them. Thank You For Sharing.
Wow thank you so so much for sharing your adventure with us all ! I’m new to your channel love watching your life on the farm ., what a blast you guys had ……love watching the horses at work doing what they do best,…….love that camp they are setting up really pretty ….
Why only four people this time? I remember 3 years ago 8 people went in! Man how time flys!
I remember that you have done this before, but its a first for Baron. Lady is scared of sheep, Baron is scared of a canoe! Bill... Unfazed! It looks like it was cold out there. Keep well. Have a great week
I think Brenda freaked out more than Baron.😢😢
Great experience for Baron though he did not like the strangers. He may have smelled blood off the hunters and got a bit skittish but in the end he learnt something new . Thanks for great video. God Bless you all
Thanks Jim and Brenda
Great to see Baron getting a new experience. Nice walk in the woods!!
Love the sound of Baron
I can hear Baron say "I don't like this!"
Great work Brenda.
I'm a hunter myself and I would really enjoy that awesome video love you guys ❤
Maybe the horses smelled something hunter-y on that gear? Like - a smell of the bear/wolf that was hunted down some months ago and placed on that gear or just a general smell of blood maybe? Acting quite spooky there
Just a wonderful video, Brenda and Jim, Baron and Bill! At my age, I've finally stopped being surprised at all the new info yet to be learned. Thanks so much!
Fun times they will have! And Brenda, get some hot chocolate in you! You looked like you about froze over at the end of the ride! At least Baron took everything in stride and not going crazy!
Thanksgiving weather A little early.
A nice dusting of North Country snow.
Our “Mac” snorts just like that.
Jim & Brenda- What a wonderful trip through the woods. The horses did great! I used to hunt and fish. Now only fish. That brings back fond memories of my horses and also seeing those Sport Pals. Haven't seen one in years.
I'm sure that hunting group had a good time. ~ Diane
Well, that that was different. Me and Baron were a little apprehensive lol but all worked out😊
Great video Brenda...Baron was nervous which then got Bill a little nervous being tied up. Like Jim said "in training " as Baron's first time pulling the canoes. Baron did good as needs to do this again to get over the noise and smell of the hunters. Jim and Brenda thanks for a great video. God bless you both 🙏 ❤❤
I used to ride on the Appalachian Trail in the Smokey Mountain National Park and by far the most scary thing for the horses and mules was the hikers and their packs.
Thank u both for sharing your U tube video.I enjoyed this video.take care.
good boy ! don't think negative barron...all good
❤❤❤Enjoyed the video. Beautiful scenery. ❤❤❤
Really interesting. Brenda, you look so much better, and I hope Jim, too. Prayers for you two answered.
Cool adventure for Baron
What’s going on, Baron? Pretty scary isn’t it? None of that gear at the farm, is there? Brenda, thanks for all your work to film the adventure.
love this good morning BRENDA AND JIM THANK YOU FOR SHARING
🤔 If I recall correctly, this excursion was one of the earlier videos, when Jim’s sight caught my attention, since then I’m enjoying, all trials , tribulations, and daily joys, temper zone , looking on chilly side 🤭 Jim/Brenda have a great day 👍👀
Brenda did you walk the whole 9 miles? Goodness gracious dedication to the channel lol thank you it was wonderful!
No Fern . Brenda walked and filmed .most of the 5 miles in . Then hung on for dear life with Jim on the forecart as the horses wanted to trot the 5 miles back to the truck and trailer.😊
Great trip with the canoes. Poor Baron was soooo scared . I never heard a horse make a noise like he made .
I enjoy these hunting trip videos. I think you have had 3 or 4 canoes on earlier trips. If I remember correctly, Abby went with her dad on one of the trips before Brenda retired.
Great adventure for hunters and Jiim and Brenda and the horses. Fun video
I thought there were more parties last time? I do enjoy men getting the opportunity to experience the great natural outdoors. Such beautiful God created country. I hope and pray they have a safe and enjoyable time.
You're a brave boy, Baron! You'll catch on! Just watch Bill! I received my BEAUTIFUL calendar this afternoon ( 11/13/23 ). It's too lovely to write on! I'll buy a second one somewhere else that I can write dates on. lol.
A very picturesque place, love watching the horses x
Look forward to this trip every year thanks taking us along
Seems like they could put the canoes and gear on Jim's sled and it would be more stable. If that's a possibility.....
Thank you for sharing and teaching us about your adventures. We wish our kids could see and learn more from your experiences. City life has its challenges. But balancing, lifestyles, could be rewarding.
I love the spooky interest Barron demonstrates. Good boy.

I really enjoy this video.
Got my Calendar today, Thanks, It's beautiful! And I wanted to see this! I love these videos!! This is all new to baron, I can hear him making horse noises!
Enjoyed very very much the vidéo, greetings to all of you !
Poor Baron, sure could have benefitted from some re-assurance.
Amazing !! Thanks for sharing🎉🎉🎉
Excellent video as always. I was just curious what kind of hunting are those guys doing?
Deer.
Deer hunting
Awesome video! That was a great way to end my day.
Just tremendous! Loved this video. Horses did well with Jim's guidance. Good hunting, men!
