  • There's been a boom in boutique hotels across Canada and our taste for more intimate, and unique stay experiences has affected the way the resort industry does business. Bellstar Hotel and Resorts is one of the rare Canadian companies doing well in this niche market, despite the volatile economy. In less than ten years the company has quadrupled in size and is now seen as a major player in the Canadian West. The CEO -- a former national long-distance track star -- is now pushing for Bellstar to become one of the top resort companies in North America. But when Ed Romanowski joins housekeeping staff, he struggles to keep up and makes startling discoveries about the business he's running.

That young woman at the laundry. For the first time ever, brought me to tears. CEO. She needs help. No one should have to run that pace to get laundry done. One helper, even half time, would do wonders.

@Marion Rogers I also thought they needed heavier duty masks for the people working with all the pool chemicals. In my opinion, they should actually not be legally allowed to open the pool without goggles for those corrosive, acidic, chemicals. Human beings don’t regrow lungs and corneas, and you may never get donor ones on a waiting list. This is 100% unacceptable, because it’s 100% unsafe.

I wished this will happen to Hyatt Regency Saipan! I worked there from 1997-2003 as guests service. I feel terrible several times that I have to bring guests to a stinking old rooms. I told our front office managers and I was told it's nothing, they're old rooms and they're not our VIPs. I feel really troubled. Imagine, you are in a different country expecting the best experience vacation ever and the very first impression of it is already beginning at the hotel you just checked in, how this will impact the visitor, the hotel and the island or country, but me, it was impacted on me and that's how I was feeling all those times. I feel embarrassed by it.

What happens is actually at the company level, when the said managers get more work and want some compensation for the extra work; when the raises don't materialize, they leave and others who accept lower wages get hired but these people sometimes don't care if things get sloppy. Able managers have to be happy with commensurate wages. My husband represents the interests (not a lawyer) of a certain company, so he deals with the manager, who doesn't have a clue what he/she has to do (he tells me often: "how do these people stay in their jobs?" and I tell him they are willing to accept lower salaries, and the company is happy they don't have to pay a higher check for someone who will save them a lot of money in the long run.

Where these hotels are located in Canada there are a ton of different ethnicities. I REALLY LIKE THE DIVERSITY. Everyone has something different to add to their jobs and to the hotel brand. The lady from India, she is a clean-a-phob. There was another lady from India on UNDER COVER BOSS who was a manager of a subway shop. She was OCD with cleaning as well. I wonder if India has a higher incidence of ladies having OCD with keeping their places super clean? Another lady from India worked in a huge banquet hall and she was VERY PRECISE with the handling of placements of the dishes, silverware, which side to serve first (right to left), ladies first, where glasses go, salad and dessert go. She also saw through under cover bosses disguise right away, but she didn't treat him with kid gloves. She handed everything to him straight. She was sharp as a tack, just like all these other Indian ladies. This boss was very kind. As most of these under cover bosses are. When they get down and dirty with their employees, they remember what it's like to do the jobs that keep their businesses afloat. A lot of these employees are NOT THAT REPLACEABLE. Bosses do not have it easy either, but they have to review what launched their careers in the first place and listen to the ideas that their employees have, they are great ideas. They know because the employees are working in the area and in the field. This is a great show. Love it. ❤❤❤🌸👍.

Working in hospitality you need to make sure your training is up to par. That Indian lady was so worried about going fast first you need to make sure the job is being done right before worrying about speed. This hotel claims to be luxurious but I can tell this place is cheap AF. You’ll get good service when your employees feel they have a great job they don’t want to lose!

It is interesting CEO’s vary considerably in management style, some have started at the entry level positions and worked their way up, they sometimes lack the specific skill set for the entry level roles, but they press on take the shit and work hard.
