I started going through comments and I see a lot of them in regards of having cat inside with an open enclosure. Mica is not my cat, I let her in only on occasion when I'm there, she is always under my supervision. No worries! :D
I'm thinking a good addition might be a large piece of plexiglass to put on top when you're not there.... Would also help with drafts in the winter since it's so close to the door.
It could be just a second and he is gone in the cat ... i would also recommend you some plexi with drilled holes or some fine net to put it over the enclosure ( just to be sure :-) ).
He just said not to worry and you all are worrying. Also how can she get him when he is not there if he has to let her in? 😑 Edit: well 2 of you worried.
She is a stray cat who he lets in when he is around, she only comes to the dark den for belly rubs, naps and to scratch the carpets 😂! Petko is a clever man, I am sure he knows to watch her around his animals 😊
:D I can say, as a veterinarian, that I really get happy from seeing you care for your animals. Hamsters usually live in way too small enclosures indeed. It is even said, that the bigger the enclosure, the longer the hamster will live, so Cappuccino will live up to 5 years now :p Also I really like your care for Despacito, that you want to do the bloodwork for him, I would like an update on that if there is news! Like I said, I get really excited when I meet owners like you! Keep up the great care

I must say, that's the coolest hamster enclosure I've ever seen. I would recommend you mix or switch his staple food with lab block or oxbow pellets, as seed diet can shorten their lifespan and it's obvious that you love him. Lucky guy!
Cappuccino- the world's most spoilt hamster! The enclosure is amazing. Little tip I learnt @thedarkden... if you see where his favourite spot to pee is get a bit of soiled substrate/sawdust.. put in a large glass jam jar and put that in the place he pees... then you can just rinse the jar out as he will use it as a toilet... it's easy to train them to do this and it reduces the smell of pee xx
I am so happy he got a new enclose. Cappachino is so adorable. My own cat had been very close friends to my pet Hamster. Than mine passed. He was devistated.. For a the longest time my cat Marty looked for Mickey and mourned him. People have no idea that interspecies can become friends. Anyway, amazing video as usual Petko thank you as usual.

This video makes me so happy as a hamster lover! I do see quite some open spaces that could be filled up, but of course that's up to you! Hamsters love to hide after all. Another suggestion might be to scatter the food instead of using a bowl! This way they will go and search for the food and collect it, keeps them busy for a bit ♡ great job and thank you for spreading this information!

If I had one recommendation it would be to add a lip of some kind to at least the corners. Hamsters are notorious for escaping by climbing out using corners. I am even linking a video so you can see just how easy it was for this hamster to climb to the ceiling of someone's room just by using the corner. I hope it helps and I don't mean to say you're doing anything wrong. It's actually the opposite. You're one of the best hamster care givers I've seen!

Wow you are like a mini zoo Petko! You are a very clever chap and so kind and thoughtful with it. Your mum must be so proud of.you. I know you had an open day at the Dark Den but you should do learning and therapy workshops because it's very relaxing watching tarantulas relaxing in their homes!, listening to classical music and water falls. Even rainforest music or Native American Indians. Plus you've got the other creatures and research has shown that it's very stressful for a taranchula to move house which is why they try and cling on to their previous one. Stroking their abdomen with a paintbrush whilst in their new hide calms them down as well. The other animals are so interesting too and theres the two therapy fur balls Cappuccino and Mirza. Stroke your cares away. Imagine how relaxing it will be watching the H.Gigas diving and hunting for fish to eat. Dreamy!!

i had also hamsters in my youth...but they dont get very old...a little bit over 2 years mostly😥 so play with him and use as much time as you can👍 OMG he will jump in the left corner and he will escape!...change that immediately! hamsters can jump up to 20cm!
At least they won't have the same fate as mine. He got crushed to death by my sister who sat on him, never really forgiven her for that. Horrible. Long live CAPPUCCINO!
I had 2, one when I was 7, and one when I was like mid 20s and both lived just over 4 years. I think that's just bad luck, sorry to hear about your hamster

It was an accident but it was a stupid one since she hadn't asked for my permission to take him out. And she was a fucking stupid kid for that along with mom. Finally a Hamster Enclosure (I don't dare to call this amazing crib a "cage") the size it's supposed to be: I used to work in a small pet shop and I spent hours upon hours to explain to customers that Hamsters in the wild roam around an area that can be well over 3km² large. And no, you can't keep them in a 20 by 50 caged shoebox, literally speaking. And then, after all the time me and my coworkers spent on educating and talking some sense into people, they went to the next best big pet supply retailer and got all of their stuff, including plastic hides and their shoebox cage there... and then had the audacity to come back to us and ask why their hamster died and "breathed funny" when they stuffed the plastic hide full of synthetic burrowing material. THANK YOU Petko, finally finally a Hamster Setup that takes the animals needs into consideration. Done how it's supposed to be!
Your love for all your creatures is something to be admired and I pray our higher power rewards you for your kind and pure heart. It's not soft you are a keeper of lives and more ppl should be that way it would make this world so much better. I too love animals and have a loving side but I'm also 6'5 and a multiple champion fighter and teach combat. Your a good man Petko and there is never nothing wrong with that keep up the great work.
That’s a great job! I recommend to put in more hides because with big open areas they can get stressed (they’re prey animals) also maybe add some dry leaves, flowers and foods in his cage for him to find like in the wild 😄
You could add a glass plane on top for the upper 40cm? Like a partial lid, with hinges if you want to open it completely for better access. That way he won´t be able to escape using the wheel, wood or the water bottle. But looks great! So much space for activity!

Hey, Petko! What would be cool is if you provide a play area for your hamster outside his enclosure. I used to let my gerbilles play in my bathroom (no hiding places and contained) for a few hours. They could play with us and had toys to keep them entertained. They ended up living 5 years and it made sure they never got bored. Would be cool for Cappuccino and again well done for a really cool video and setup!
Looks awesome! And you chose the best substrate too 😁 Maybe he’d like some nesting material? My rodents get loads of toilet paper/soft tissues and hay and they love it.
Petko, to avoid Cappucino climbing out you could consider putting a small lip of glass around the perimeter, so that even if he did climb to the top there would be a barrier in his way!

Awww Mitza has a good loud “motor”! One of my kitty’s motor (purring) is so loud and strong when he is in my lap I’ll have a “motorized lap warmer”!!!

That’s a great job! I recommend to put in more hides because with big open areas they can get stressed (they’re prey animals) also maybe add some dry leaves, flowers and foods in his cage for him to find like in the wild 😄

You could add a glass plane on top for the upper 40cm? Like a partial lid, with hinges if you want to open it completely for better access. That way he won´t be able to escape using the wheel, wood or the water bottle.
But looks great! So much space for activity!

What would be cool is if you provide a play area for your hamster outside his enclosure. I used to let my gerbilles play in my bathroom (no hiding places and contained) for a few hours. They could play with us and had toys to keep them entertained. They ended up living 5 years and it made sure they never got bored. Would be cool for Cappuccino and again well done for a really cool video and setup!
Looks awesome! And you chose the best substrate too 😁 Maybe he’d like some nesting material? My rodents get loads of toilet paper/soft tissues and hay and they love it.
Petko, to avoid Cappucino climbing out you could consider putting a small lip of glass around the perimeter, so that even if he did climb to the top there would be a barrier in his way!
