- The Last Of Us Part II has reignited discourse about media that leans deeply into darkness and cynicism for its own sake, but can "edgy" stories have their characters suffer in a grim world and still not hate joy? Jisu of SecretIdentityStudio looks at 2018's Angels of Death, which has fun with itself and seems to comment on this trend in its genre.

Re: the flash at 2:22: It didn't appear when I watched it before uploading, it doesn't appear in my video editor whatsoever, and I can't take it out of the video without taking the audio with it. I have no idea what happened there. Video's haunted.
Great vid! I usually can't stand horror or grim/dark in general, but i love Angels of Death. You really helped me pull together some strings of understanding why i do.
I would love to see more analysis and general discussion like this on the channel!
I really love the game it's based on so I was very excited when this came out. I wasn't disappointed either, I think as far as adaptations transitioning between from one media to another goes, they did a fantastic job!
I'm usually not that good with over-the-top edgy anime, mostly because of the characters feeling very hollow alot of the time. but this story, because of how genuine it is, it manages to make you kinda go "d'aww" a murder/suicide pact lol
Also I gotta say... this anime just kinda make me nostalgic? like it reminds me more of edgy fan-content than it does of any official edgy media out there. Zack was like.. designed to have gothy teenage girls gush over him, that is to say he makes me feel like I'm a 14yr old goth kid again XD

I just finished Angels of Death and it was so good. The ending though…I’m still not okay with it 😅
hmm, well I tend not to watch that edgy shows, the only one i can think of is overlord. its a anime about a lonely nerd getting isekai into his game where hes the guild master and his guild NPC come to life, they play the Concept pretty well considering all the charterers are only tropes from different anime. its more of a power fantastic then a edgy anime but it has some f*cked up things happening in the background.
