    They look amazing! Especially loved the Miltoniopsis types. I wish I could find these gorgeous types of orchids in my town. All the flower shops and IKEA have only the phals. I had some luck with cattleyas, a dendrobium and a few oncidium intergenerics at Bauhaus. But these months even they don't provide any type other than phals. It's so hard being an orchid lover in Turkey, you guys... :(

    I have never gone to a flower shop.
    To be honest I have found so many beautiful orchids at Home Depot and Walmart and I have inherited about 20.
    But I would love to go to some :) when I can have more space

    Wow, Danny I thought I was finally going to see a video of you orchid shopping and how you pick them. You did edit the video on point. That nursery has such an abundance of orchids, I have never been to one here in the states that has that abundance and flower shops, forget it, all they have are arrangements which are super super expensive. You are fortunate to have those available to you on the island. Great video today!

      Right. I mostly see Phals and cymbidiums, but I have seen cattleya seedlings *one time* at home depot lol

      Hi, that garden center had no orchid there, they were all garden plants. All they ever bring are Phals, very rarely anything else. I have never stepped foot in an orchid nursery actually loool :)) but you already knew that ;)

    Hi Dani, that red might be a Cattlianthe. I recently purchased one; Cattlianthe jewelbox 'dark waters'. A true red as well. Been a fan of that grex for a very long time. That habit looks the same. Sadly it's in one of those green nursery pots. I'm going to have to wait until the proper time to repot it in the clear net pots I prefer to use.

    I wonder if that Catt might have chocolate drop in it’s parentage? I love those 2 miltoniopsis you got. I have the breathless and mine is paler. I do end up killing one every few years. I have to keep up with their requirements otherwise 😵. I don’t have the guts to try masdevallias. I look forward to see how you’ll take care of them! Thanks for all the experiments!

    Hello, is there any red Cattleya that you could recommend for fragrance?

  • @TheDanEdwards
    @TheDanEdwards 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Regarding your red Cattleya hybrid: someone else mentioned C. Chocolate Drop. That is an old hybrid (using the old genus name). You can find many pictures here: www.orchidroots.com/orchid/100072296/hybrid_detail/?tab=sum
    I remember years ago when Stewart Orchids offered it. However most of the plants from the cross are larger plants (when mature) than your red Cattleya so I suspect what you have is different. Also, the C. guttata parents strongly influenced the lip shape of C. Chocolate Drop, and the lip on your red Catt seems less like C. guttata.
    However, similar crosses were made not using the large plant C. guttata as the parent but one of the smaller bifoliates to cross with Guarianthe aurantiaca, the latter giving the color intensity and some of the flower shape. Furthermore, out here in California (and maybe HI) there were second generation and further hybrids made from these. The bifoliate Cattleya ancestors and especially C. aurantiaca making the plants easy to grow outdoors in California and also rugged enough for commercial growing.
    However, as with many Cattleyas, they are not the fastest growing of hybrids and commercially red Cattleyas are often Sophronitis hybrids because of the shorter time to market.

    Hi Danny!! I FOUND A WHITE miltoniaopsis with a pure black center at Kawamoto orchids in Hawaii. It was out if blooming season but they managed to find me one that had blooms hanging on. Call them and ask for Reid maybe you can make a deal with him. It's not listed on their website so you'll have to ask. It almost reminds me of a peony. I'd never seen anything like it. The blooms are huge. No pink or red in it. It's stunning but it doesn't like leca.
    Also they ship federal express! So very short shipping time. Here in the states I get mine in 2 days! Prices include shipping. I bought mine for $40 US. They also provide heat packs at no extra charge if needed. I have no problem ordering from in the middle of winter and it was 9 degrees last night!

      Nina Dillard Yeup ! I think it's their original hybrid called "Miltonopsis Lilian Nakamoto" hope it helps you guys ID them, cuz although it looks different, it really does look similar to the one you've talked about.

    Also, I have a question. I recently found your channel and I felt like I could do it I could try to keep and nurture my favorite flower, a phalaenopsis orchid. I bought one about two days ago, using your tips. The roots were mostly silver so, I submerged it in water below the leaves for about 10 minutes and there are a few roots that are out of the pot and they are still silver in color, however the roots in the pot are a rich green. Do I need to water it til the outside roots are also green? Or is it ok? Any help is appreciated and I love your channel.

    • @markosshafiq3055
      @markosshafiq3055 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The outside roots are aerial roots that means they are adapted to the air in the room. You don´t need to water them, except if you have no roots in the pot. But if you really want to just spray them or so, you don´t need to hassle.

    Hey Danny, do you have any pleurothallis in your collection or experience with them ?i think they are related to masdevallias. I have pleurothallis phalangifera and it seems to do great now for me the only issue I had with it was that I didn’t have enough humidity so I put it in a vase like a terrarium and it just went off :D
