AZ is BIG.. it actually ranges from zones 6-9, mainly.. its considered a "wet desert".. summers can be 120°f+ and winters can get low 30°f.. huge range.. orris did really good for me out there.. also the amaryllis, roses, bird of paradise(you could prolly grow a huge one where you are), Bo Tree, Tea Tree, Eucalyptus... ❤️‍🔥

The amaryllis look wonderful. The leaves will come out after the bloom stalk. A local garden columnist said that the blood stalk is produce every fifth leaf, so you want as many leaves as you can get. I would cut the seed heads off so the plants are growing their bulb instead of the seeds. Once the leaves are up and growing, feed the plants. Stop feeding in spring for about a month, then gradually cut back on the water. The leaves will wilt and go mushy. I find if I just leave them alone they will get crispy and cut themselves neatly from the bulb. Then they can go through the hottest days of your summer sleeping snug and sound in the earth. I really like amaryllis and have grown them for a long time.
The advice to plant them with 1/3 of the bulb showing is for when one is planting them in a pot. I wish you lots of luck with them. I believe they originated from a climate like yours. 😊

Your garden is beautiful. Bone Meal is really good for Roses. I LOVE your Tolumnias. Still trying to get mine to bloom. I do keep watching your Tolumnia videos. Love your channel ❤

They will most likely come back. I think aside from your low humidity level you and I have very similar climates (I’m in central Florida). There is actually a lily hybridizer not far from me and he grows everything outside in full sun, no greenhouses. When he eventually tosses old plants my friends have been able to collect and establish them in their gardens and they bloom every year.

May be freckles on white is pollen. Amaryllis bulbs don't likes to be buried wholly. I would leave hibiscus there, she liked that spot. 😊

I’m thinking... a small piece of grid ( mesh ) should protect the bark from flying around ;-) Ps. Cinnamon scented orchid !!! Wow 😮

So happy that Brassavola digbyana has bloomed for you! Mine is in the bedroom, thankfully both me and my husband both love the smell even though it is STRONG 😁

I’m so happy that you get to live out your dream with a rose garden, and garden in general. I’m so jealous you have an environment that you can grow fruit trees! I grew up in a neighbourhood as a little girl with a peach tree in our yard. I’ve always wanted to grow one myself. Unfortunately, I moved further north that doesn’t allow me to grow them here. To have oranges and lemons and limes tho! Wow!
Your lilies are amazing!! I had a garden full of Lillie’s too! Maybe next year I can plant some here again. My favourite one was the star gazer lily! The smell was so beautiful!
I’m so proud, and happy to see you enjoy being in your garden like I do! ❣️❤️❣️

Hi, I'm sure there are some fruit trees that can tolerate very low tems! In Romania (which can get incredible cold, I experienced -25C in some winters) we grew cherries, plums, apricots and all sorts of other fruit trees! Yes oranges and citrus trees are out of the question, we can't grow them in Romania either, but many others trees did amazing. I'm curious how cold it gets there?

I love Lily’s after Orchids they are the number one in my flower loving list. I am in Cyprus I would love to grow them in my garden but there’s one danger about them. They are extremely poisonous to cats. I have 4 cats and they are not allowed to go garden because of dangerous around the garden. I don’t want to put their life in dandelion with lilies around the garden if just in case if they sneak out step out to garden. Enjoy them for me as well and I loved red one ❤

I love that you have your own home and yard now. Have you thought about growing some of your orchids outside? I'm not too familiar with your climate, but it seems like if hibiscus thrive maybe some orchids will as well under shade part of the year?

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

Hi, yesss I do plan to grow at least Cattleyas outside, but for now I don't have much shade so I need my trees to grow a bit and maybe make some structures for the Orchids in shadier areas. Slowly slowly :)

The Aztec lillies will grow and spread on their own, you don't need to worry about getting bulbs from it. As it gets bigger, you can divide it and add to your garden if you like. The only thing I dislike about them is that they don't continue to bloom over and over. Once the blooms fall off, that's it, unlike the day lillies and giant lillies. I have all 3. I am in wants known as zone 5. Your zones are based on the cold temps, not hot temps as to if the plants can survive and grow back tge following year. The Hibiscus is the same, they will come back year after year depending on your temps. I have the Hardy version, they get to be 6 feet tall and very wide. They bloom over and over all season. I don't know how to attach pictures on this platform otherwise I would show you some of mine. I have giant lillies as well that are 6 to 7 feet tall.

I live in the area of Sacramento, California and the Koppen climate classification for us is CSA. I looked up the classification for Cyprus which is also CSA. Our hardiness zone is zone 9 . I never really knew what the difference is so I looked it up and the hardiness zones refer more to winter temperatures which ours can range day time temperatures high 40s to low 60s (fahrenheit) and night time mid 30s to mid 40s . In celsius that's day time average 11-18 and night time 1-5 which I think your lowest temperatures are much higher so you would probably be in a zone 11. Although the Sierra Nevada mountain range protects us from snow, cold air still comes down. The problem is zone 11 in the US is Florida or Southern California which Florida is much more humid so I feel like choosing by hardiness zone isn't a good idea. I did see that there's a better system called sunset zones, more factors are taken into consideration year round and Cyprus is zone 24 which is similar to Los Angeles. Google Sunset Zone 24 sunset plant collection... it should bring up the website and it explains the climate of that particular zone and it provides a list of recommended plants for that zone. Hope this helps.

Oh woaw thanks so much for this explanation and taking the time to write me this! I really appreciate it and will check out the sunset zones! So exciting to plan my garden haha I haven't bought new clothes in 2 years but I am saving up for compost and mulch and regret nothing :))))

I live in central Florida and our zone is 9a and 9b.

@@MissOrchidGirl You're welcome Danny, It helped give me some ideas as well. The sunset zones were developed by sunset magazine and University of California and I definitely feel like it does a better job explaining the climate with additions like humidity and wind plus hottest temperatures. I can tell you're so excited for this and it's a nice feeling to have a backyard, I'm very happy for you :) If you want to plant trees, I would be careful because eventually the roots will grow very long and branch under your house leading to some problems.

@@davegrimstead8289 Sorry, I thought I wrote Southern Florida but when I was proofing, I saw I wrote Southern but that was for California haha. You should actually recheck your zone because the USDA updated the data and some places in central Florida are now showing 10a as their zone.

I wish I could have Rhyncholaelia digbyana Soooo bad it’s so pretty and amazing. I looked it up online and it was very expensive 😢 but I’m hopping I’ll find one at the orchid show I’m going too! One last thing I have a question a Cattleya that is recently had a Gros burst. It grew one growth and then just now starting to grow another one. The older new Growth has a thing that has the bud inside of it. Is the shield supposed to keep growing or is the bud supposed to push out of the shield?

I'm pretty sure you're closer to 10b than 9b. The USDA hardiness zone is about low temperatures, not max temperatures, and I don't think Cyprus gets below freezing. You should specifically research heat tolerant roses, because that's going to be the issue for you -- I grow tons of roses in zone 5b (lowest temperature around -30 C), and most of them do great.

    • @MissOrchidGirl

Hi, yea I think it's more like 10 haha :)) well most people have roses here in their garden and they do really well in our climate, my father in law is not as concerned as I am haha but I'll use this year as just testing things out :))

Hello Danny, I’m sorry for the inconvenience on sending you a message don’t know if that’s okay but i couldn’t find your email. I have a question for you woudn’t mind. 3 days ago got a beautiful orchid from the supermarket and on the tag it says Cambria “Nelly Isler” but I think it is a hybrid of some sort because the flowers have a slightly different shape and are bigger than from what I’ve seen from your videos. Anyway I repotted it the day I got it only in bark because i don’t have sphagnum moss available and fertillized it yesterday because I noticed 1 of her 2 pseudobulbs was starting to shrivell and I left her fertillize for about 3 hours to soak it up nicely. Almost 24 hours later pseudobulb does not look in any way plumper than yesterday. Also while i was repotting I cut away the dead roots, although the orchid was left with a lot of healthy roots which was surprising and sprayed them with hydrogen peroxide. Plus I’ve checked there doesn’t seem to be any sign of pests. What do you think I should do? Thanks in advance for answering, I love your videos!
